2016-07-26 Thread Adam Conrad
Tested precise, trusty, xenial, and yakkety. Looks like this bug was
introduced between precise and trusty (that is, it works correctly in
precise's 0.8.16~exp12ubuntu10, but not trusty's 1.0.1ubuntu2 or later).

[Bug 1589204] Re: apt-get dist-upgrade and apt full-upgrade not reporting held back package

2016-07-26 Thread Adam Conrad
Simple reproducer:

# cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/test.list
deb [trusted=yes] copy://home/adconrad/apt-test ./
# cat /home/adconrad/apt-test/Packages
Package: apt
Priority: important
Section: admin
Architecture: amd64
Version: 99:1
Depends: test (>= 99:1)
# apt-get update
# apt-get dist-upgrade | grep upgraded
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
# apt-get autoremove | grep upgraded
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
# apt-get upgrade | grep upgraded
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
# apt-get install hello | grep upgraded
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

Note that only "dist-upgrade" appears to fail to report the package
being held because it's uninstallable.

[Bug 1606743] Re: Font Viewer desktop file does not launch gnome-font-viewer

2016-07-26 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1606743/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1606763] [NEW] Recently, when FF starts up, not all of the restored windows/tabs are the most recent ones.

2016-07-26 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

With the latest FF (or perhaps one version before?) a weird thing
happens when I start up my FF profile:

Once all the windows and tabs are loaded, and I peruse the list of windows in
my bottom panel,
I will see things that were NOT as I left them when I shut FF down last.

Ex. I see that one window has the focus tab (the one tab per window that
actually gets loaded when FF starts up) has the text "BBQ Crock Pot..." This
is a recipe that I no longer need, and have deleted - several times. The 4
tabs that follow that tab I also deleted.
I have just deleted them again, but I know that when I start FF tomorrow, THERE
they will be again...

Next, there is a tab labeled "Rochester Gas..." a site where I can find
low gas prices here in Rochester, NY. Now I know that when I leave this
window, I leave it on the Weather tab almost every time. Probably once
in the last couple of weeks it was on the gas prices tab when I shut FF
down. Apparently THAT was the day that FF keeps resurrecting (for that
window, at least...)

Another window tab shows the correct tab, Google Translate, but when I
go there to translate something, the text that it resurrects from "the
last time" is actually from several sessions (maybe a week?) before (and
naturally, it is something embarrassing that I wouldn't want people to
see...! Of course.)

Although it has finally gone away, there was one time that I opened up a
window to look up probably 8 to 10 things on the same subject, finished
with them, deleted the tabs, and then the window - but then had the
window/tabs reappear every time FF loaded, perhaps for the next 4-5
days.

---

Basically - something changed in FF that causes it to not load the most recent
windows/tabs,
but some earlier set.

Now... this could mean that when shut down, FF IS saving the windows and tabs,
but not loading the most recent set when re-starting OR
FF is not always saving windows/tabs every time it shuts down, but is
resurrecting the most recent copy it has available...

Those are the two scenarios that I have thought up, but of course there
are probably others...

---

[NOTE: before I invoked ubuntu-bug to file this report, there was a
weird problem that caused Amazon.com pages to display improperly and be
almost unresponsive (memory problem? FF problem? Amazon problem? - who
knows...) Anyway, I decided it would be good to shut FF down and
restart. Apparently FF crashed during the shut-down (I had to delete
.parentlock before I could restart the profile). So ubuntu-bug probably
will have pulled in stuff that relates to that crash, that will have
nothing to do with the bug I am reporting, as it is not a crash - merely
weird behavior. ]

[Bug 1569019] Re: rsa ssh login fails with "sign_and_send_pubkey: signing failed: agent refused operation" error

2016-07-26 Thread M.Morana
Installed Xenial 16.04 via debootstrap so I couldhave a zfs root/boot
and somehow hit this problem and couldn't figure it out right away. The
ssh error message should have a clearer way of deciphering the problem
but ssh-add did fix it. Shouldn't this problem be avoided in the ssh-
keygen utility or does this user creation case actually make sense
somewhere? Thank you.

[Bug 1441253] Re: hanging suspend job prevents shutdown

2016-07-26 Thread Robert Jansen
I think it is related to the monstrosity called systemd.

Using this command to suspend solves all suspend/resume problems here

echo mem> /sys/power/state

I guess this command directly tells the kernel to suspend, without
relying on buggy systemd crap.

[Bug 1584894] Re: unity-system-compositor crashes on start-up with "Mir fatal error: Failed to schedule page flip" on VirtualBox Graphics Adapter

2016-07-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I have made this bug separate to bug 1118903 because solving that won't
solve this directly. A fallback driver that solves bug 1118903 would not
be used as mesa-kms is successfully starting in this case. Just crashing
soon after.

[Bug 1118903] Re: [enhancement] Mir lacks a software rendering backend (and doesn't work in virtual machines)

2016-07-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've separated the more recent duplicate bugs on VirtualBox where Mir is
starting OK (there are sufficient DRM resources) but then crashing. I
think that will inevitably require a separate fix -> bug 1584894.

OK, the journalctl -k just showed the "Invalid ROM contents" lines in red
font. But, the /var/log showed "loading" of r128 and then fbdevbw and
then "unloading" them and then EE-"screens found, but none have usable
configuration" and then "Fatal error no screens found."

I again tried "sudo service lightdm start" . . . and then when that just
brought the same blackish screen I tried "stop" and then "start" . . . is
it handled by "lightdm" or "gdm" or something else?

I'm back in OSX 10.5 to type this email out on the PM.

[Bug 1606103] Re: modeset driver is missing some modes that the intel driver had

2016-07-26 Thread Rocko
Another Ubuntu Perthian! Excellent! I checked another laptop and the
kernel only listed the native resolution of the screen on that as well,
so perhaps the issue is in xserver/modeset after all. But out of
curiosity, what role is the kernel supposed to take here? It does list
all the modes for my external monitor, just not for the laptop screens.

[Bug 1586710] Re: light-locker-settings does not start

2016-07-26 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Well, I installed today's update of light-locker-settings (1.5.0-0ubuntu1.1),
and although the "get_pid_list" lines of "
/usr/share/light-locker-settings/light-locker-settings/light-locker-settings.py"
 were changed to "get_pids",
this does nothing to solve this particular bug (#1586710),

with:
"GLib.Error: g-key-file-error-quark: Valid key file could not be found in

[Bug 1606743] [NEW] Font Viewer desktop file does not launch gnome-font-viewer

2016-07-26 Thread Aritchie
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04.1

disappears.

I can go to a terminal and type "gnome-font-viewer" and it runs without
any issues.

[Bug 1586710] Re: light-locker-settings does not start

2016-07-26 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Well, the new version of light-locker-settings was offered today
(1.5.0-0ubuntu1.1), and I installed it.

1. I note that unlike the earlier poster, who said a change was needed
from:

for pid in psutil.get_pid_list():
to:
for pid in psutil.pids()

the fix released was actually changed to:

for pid in psutil_get_pids():

2. As expected, this does nothing to solve this bug (#1586710), which as noted
above,
likewise causes l-l-s not to start, but fails with "GLib.Error:
g-key-file-error-quark: Valid key file could not be found in search dirs (2)"
from the terminal.

2016-07-26 Thread Leandro Heck
Hello Hans, thanks for the fast answer.

Ok, I built it from sources using its last release from github. I had to
install gnat-4.9. Could I help to make this package working? If yes, I
would like to get some pointers to be prepared for this task. Thank you.

[Bug 1584528] Re: Inspiron 3543 TouchPad cursor jumps to left edge unexpectedly

2016-07-26 Thread w2vy
In my testing a used a Java program to test on the various releases.
I was surprised to discover that the 14.04 Live CD did not easily support Java.

So I switched my testing to a simpler method

Open System settings and move from one setting to another looking for
errors.

I am currently verifying Trusty Tahr and plan on exhaustively test it.
I will then move to Wily.

Tom

[Bug 1541082] Re: [PowerMac3,1] Blotchy GUI graphics for images

2016-07-26 Thread ernsteiswuerfel
Check your boot messages with "journalctl -k" and your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log then you will get a hint what went wrong with r128.

On current Ubuntu versions there is no need for an xorg.conf, only if
you need to tune some specific parameters. No fiddling around with "sudo
Xorg-configure" needed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools

in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to

[Bug 1059872] Re: Error formatting disk using disk utility

2016-07-26 Thread Clayton Dillard
This bug has been in existence for years. I just loaded up a new
install of Ubuntu 16.04 and ran into this. I also cannot use my DVD
drive because every time I put a disc in I get an error that the disk is
already mounted. I used dconf-editor and disabled the automount
features and rebooted. No good.

I'm beginning to believe that Ubuntu is a total crap system. Bugs hang
around for years and never get fixed. You install the OS on a new
computer and basic features don't EFFING WORK. It really is ridiculous.
After 13 years of using Linux every day you'd think I would have learned
by now. It sucks on the desktop.

Hi Sebastien

Two days ago i wanna use sublimetext after many days without time to work.
I found it into the dash, I click. Nothing happened. I checked my listed
snap. There were no sublime text snap. According to my history I removed it
during my last work session.

So I deduct that the icon will be here until I logout my session

Public bug reported:

I installed Xubuntu Xenial amd64 yesterday(16.04.1 LTS), I have almost a
clean installation. (I just have some ppa for mpv and oracle jdk from

When I lock my screen (must pass some seconds) and my mouse pointer
disappear when I unlock the screen.

If I left it locked many time the pointer, some fonts and the icons
disappear too.

Here's a screencast(In the video appears the mouse pointer but when I
was recording I could not see it):

[Bug 1606732] [NEW] Korganizer crashes on configuration

2016-07-26 Thread Greg
Public bug reported:

I used KDE Kontact and Korganizer as my PIM under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for
years. I upgraded to 16.04 (Xenial) and re-installed Kontact (includes
Korganizer). I can launch the applications. When I try to configure
them to use a non-default data file, they crash. This is repeatable and
still exists (Jul 2016). What have I missed on done incorrectly?

To reproduce:
Download and install Kontact, or Korganizaer, or use the Ubuntu Software
application to install them.
Launch Korganizer.
Select Settings | Configure Korganizer.
Watch it crash with no error message.

(...rinse and repeat)

[Bug 1594585] Re: [needs packaging] budgie-wallpapers

2016-07-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for updating the package! A native package is fine here. I
have one thing I'd like you to fix before I'll upload:

Your debian/copyright doesn't quite follow the format.

1. "The last paragraph that matches a particular file applies to it.
More general paragraphs should therefore be given first, followed by
more specific overrides."

In other words, the Files: * section should be the first section not the
last.

2. If you downloaded the file from a particular URL that lists the
copyright, it might be nice to include it in a Comment section so that
it's easier for someone that wanted to verify the file's license.

3. The names of Files in d/copyright need to match the actual file
names. Therefore a section could look something like:

Files: beauty_of_mandarins_by_erwan_hesry.jpg
Copyright: Erwan Hesry
Comment: http://...
License: CC0

4. I think you should keep the Files: * copyright holders from ubuntu-
wallpapers (Nathan McCallum, etc.) since they originally wrote the
scripts included in the source but feel free to add your name to the
list.

Here's a few optional notes:

1. In debian/rules, the export DPKG_GENSYMBOLS_CHECK_LEVEL=4 is unnecessary
since this package doesn't contain any shared libraries so it doesn't use
symbols. (Yes I see that the ubuntu-wallpapers package does this and #1 above.)
2. Maybe you should regenerate po/budgie-wallpapers.pot
3. Did you see the contest/ folder in ubuntu-wallpapers? It adds a special
wallpaper (identified in the GNOME Settings app by a small clock in the bottom
right corner) that automatically rotates the listed wallpapers every 30 min.

[Bug 1587808] Re: Ubuntu-emulator no network on latest image

2016-07-26 Thread Tony Espy
@Dave

Did you ever confirm my results per my last request in comment #11?
It's looking more and more like I was mistaken, and that NM 1.2 may
indeed be the culprit.

I re-tested the emulator with the latest rc ( #27 ), and dropped a
"manual" network-manager.override file in /etc/init. When I start the
emulator, eth0 is properly configured as the default route, and
networking is OK. If I then manually start network-manager, the default
route disappears. It looks like there's code in NMDefaultRouteManager
to remove pre-existing default routes, however the code does have logic
to check if the route device is known, and only deletes it in certain
circumstances. Unfortunately, there's little to no logging of this code
path.

I'll add some debug logs to the version of NM in silo 005, and re-test
tomorrow.

it appears that this is resolved in xenial/16.04. booting with both an
empty /etc/hostname and no /etc/hostname result in the system picking up

[Bug 1604608] Re: ipv6 client causes errors in twisted.web

2016-07-26 Thread LaMont Jones
investigating this more, twisted's handling of ipv6 is fundamentally broken in
some bad ways:
1) it allows "2001:db8::1:80" as an IP/Port combination, deciding that what you
meant is [2001:db8::1]:80, rather than the default port on 2001:db8::1:80.
2001:db8::1:7f, on the other hand, means "default port on 2001:db8::1:7f.
2) if I have a hostname, it requires me to guess whether that will resolve to A
or records, since I have to tell it which socket to create before I even
know the answer (unless I look it up myself.)
2.1) Having said that, TCPClient doesn't even believe in ipv6 at all, as noted
above.

[Bug 1604628] Re: Thunderbird Icon set is broken (ugly, black and white, monochrome icons/theme)

2016-07-26 Thread Manuel López-Ibáñez
I was wrong and Thunderbird 45 now follows the GTK3 theme. You can test
it by switching to Breeze-Dark. The icons change to white on black. See
also https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-45

Thus, nothing to do with Ubuntu/Kubuntu, this is the default now. Oh
well, we'll have to wait until the next designer wave comes and the
theme changes again. Sorry for the noise.

[Bug 1594585] Re: [needs packaging] budgie-wallpapers

2016-07-26 Thread fossfreedom
Hi Jeremy,

finally found some time to revisit this - sorry for the delay (was
busy with the 16.04.1 release of budgie-remix)

The team have chosen brand-new wallpapers for 16.04.1 - all under the
CC0 license which according to debian & freedesktop is a nice license -
completely public domain and allows commercial use
(https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/). I've linked that
in the debian/copyright

I had a look at the ubuntu-gnome-wallpapers package version - it was
16.04.1 so I hope you don't mind, I made this package a native package
and called it 16.04.1

The .xml.in I regenerated and like ubuntu-gnome-wallpapers simplified
the names field to one word.

The structure I know understand and have rejigged to support user
upgrades without wiping their current wallpaper; so when we come to
16.10 we'll change the main "budgie-wallpapers" package to recommend the
yakkety package and add a Suggests for the xenial package.

Unusually ubuntu-gnome-wallpapers didnt seem to have a standard
wallpaper named for all releases - so I've used the ubuntu-wallpapers
approach (warty) - so our standard name will be Xplo for all releases.

David

[Bug 1606712] [NEW] Crash/error report text can't be copied to clipboard

Public bug reported:

When an application crashes, the "The application XXX has closed
unexpectedly" dialog doesn't allow copying the text to the clipboard. I
want to send to the developer only the title of the crash, or I want to
do a web search for it, so going to /var/crash and hunting for the right
file is overkill.

Please make the text in that dialog copy/pastable.
