[Bug 840708]

2016-08-05 Thread Dv-b
I also see this. Using Kubuntu 16.04 here. For example, if GStreamer is
installed, when I run this in konsole:

GST_DEBUG=2,*src*:9 gst-launch-1.0 fakesrc ! fakesink silent=false

then output will eventually no longer be printed. For a while, I can
press the return key to manually "advance" the log output (perhaps this
flushes something inside konsole?), but eventually, it reaches a point
where the tab is completely frozen - I can scroll back, and copy text,
but keyboard input no longer does anything, and the output is still. The
only thing I can do then is to close that tab. This is highly annoying
when debugging code, because sometimes, there can be lots of log output,
which in turn sometimes triggers this bug.

[Bug 1474212] Re: Upgrade fails when /var/lib/mysql is a soft link

2016-08-05 Thread ironstorm
If there are no plans to fix this, can we just stop releasing new
updates of this package?

I personally don't need the unrelated mysql fixes and they just require
us to re-patch mysql postinst again and again so the other dependent
packages with actual fixes can satisfy their requirement for the latest
mysql package revision.

[Bug 1610499] [NEW] /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has bug in killing process group

2016-08-05 Thread Dongdong88
Public bug reported:

The /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has a bug , it has bug in killing process group
.
Ubuntu version is:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

(1)The way to repeat this bug
It is easy to repeat this bug , run “/bin/kill -15 -12345” or any like
“/bin/kill -15 -1”  in ubuntu16.04  , it will kill all the process .

(2)Cause analysis
The code of /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 come from procps-3.3.10 , when I run
“/bin/kill -15 -1” , it actually send signal 15 to -1 ,

-1 mean it will kill all the process .

(3)The bug in procps-3.3.10/skill.c ,I think the code "pid = (long)('0' -
optopt) " is not right .

static void __attribute__ ((__noreturn__)) kill_main(int argc, char **argv)
{
  case '?':
if (!isdigit(optopt)) {
xwarnx(_("invalid argument %c"), optopt);
kill_usage(stderr);
} else {
/* Special case for signal digit negative
 * PIDs */
pid = (long)('0' - optopt);

if (kill((pid_t)pid, signo) != 0)
 exitvalue = EXIT_FAILURE;
exit(exitvalue);
}
loop=0;
}

(4) The way to workaround
 I  copy /bin/kill in ubuntu14.04 to override /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04, it is
ok in this way   .

[Bug 1592232] Re: USA: Meizu Pro 5 changes from cellular carrier to "Denied" (AT and T-Mobile)

2016-08-05 Thread Seth
I was just able to capture the inverse using the same script. Cricket

location this entire time. However, service has changed for both SIM

There seem to be lots of interesting changes between the last log that I
posted and this one. Hope it helps!

[Bug 1566508] Re: autofs races with sssd on startup

2016-08-05 Thread Maciej Puzio
I finally had a chance to test this issue in Ubuntu 16.04. In a setup
described as in the bug description above, autofs still won't start
correctly, and this is a result of the whole string of problems. Most of
them appear to be separate bugs, but I will list them here for
completeness:

1. ifup returns before interface is up.
2. ifup@.service finishes before interface is up. This is for two reasons:
because the service calls ifup, and because the service has wrong type (simple
instead of oneshot). As a result, network-online.target is reached at a wrong
time.
3. sssd.service does not wait for network-online.target.
4. autofs reverted in Xenial to a SysV-style script and does not have a
systemd-style service file. Thus it is difficult to request that it is started
after sssd. However, fixing #2 causes systemd to run SysV scripts much later,
providing a relief for problems #4 and #5.
5. The issue being subject of this bug report is very likely still present,
though I was unable to reproduce it exactly. Unfixed issue #2 caused auto fs to
fail with a different error message ("setautomntent: lookup(sss):
setautomntent: No such file or directory"), while fixed issue #2 hid the bug.
The workaround involving waiting for sssd to start listening on
/var/lib/sss/pipes/autofs can still be used for extra safety. I will test this
further.

I will work more on these problems and submit bug reports for them if
they haven't been reported yet.

[Bug 1574347] Re: [SRU] Re-read the link type if the name changed

2016-08-05 Thread suzy
I am on 16.04.1, and I too am having this issue. Whenever my laptop
(W520) goes into Suspend or Hibernate mode and I boot it back up, the
WiFi icon displays the "disconnected" message briefly, and then
reconnects--only to display the up and down arrows associated with the
Ethernet icon and the Ethernet drop-down menu in the top panel. No SSIDs
are shown, and the menu asks me to connect to a WiFi network even though
I'm already connected to one.

I have Thinkpad 11 bgn WiFi. Ubuntu displays it as "Realtek
Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter (rev 01)".
Device name is wlp3s0 rather than wlan0.

[Bug 1592232] Re: USA: Meizu Pro 5 changes from cellular carrier to "Denied" (AT and T-Mobile)

2016-08-05 Thread Seth
Here you go, Alfonso.

I'm happy to provide any additional information that I edited out in an
email to you directly if you need it.

Additional information about this scenario:
RIL 1 has the AT SIM card
RIL 0 has the Cricket SIM card

Cricket is an MVNO of AT However, as I sat in the same exact spot as
I did yesterday when I recorded the previous video, my phone said
"DENIED" for AT (2G/3G) but Cricket (2G Saves Battery) was fine with
solid signal. I executed the list-modems script, and the AT network
came back as an [H] network with 2Mbps download speeds. Obviously not
the best speeds that I've seen, but far from "DENIED." Updating from
"DENIED" to "H" while executing the script may be a coincidence, but I
figured that I would mention it.

[Bug 1610484] [NEW] Virtualized guest hotplug disk fail

2016-08-05 Thread Roger
Public bug reported:

Hardware Architecture: ppc64el
Host OS: Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS, Release 16.04
Guest OS: Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS, Release 16.04

# apt-cache policy libvirt-bin
libvirt-bin:
  Installed: 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.1
  Candidate: 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.1
  Version table:
 *** 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.1 500
500 http://us.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports xenial-updates/main ppc64el
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1.3.1-1ubuntu10 500
500 http://us.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports xenial/main ppc64el Packages

Issue:
When attempting to hot-insert a virtual disk into a virtualized Guest that is
online, the Guest OS encounters an error.

On the host, the Guest has been created and started, then hot-insert a virtual
disk to the Guest:
# virsh attach-disk Guest1_Xenial --source /mnt/a/data_disk.qcow2 --target vda
Disk attached successfully

On the Guest OS, check for available disks but the newly attached disk was not
found, then check /var/log/kern.log, we see this following error:
Aug 4 10:39:46 105-214 kernel: [ 253.633490] RTAS: event: 1, Type: Unknown,
Severity: 1

Although the newly attached virtual disk was not recognized/seen by the
Guest OS right away, upon rebooting the Guest, The newly attached
virtual disk will show up and become available. However, expectation was
that the virtual disk will be immediately available in the Guest OS upon
attaching it and without having to reboot the Guest.

Experimentation has been done by slightly modifying the attach-disk
command, wherein the target was changed from vda to sdc (sdc because sda
& sdb have already been defined for Guest). Although the Guest no longer
sees the aforementioned error in kern.log, the newly attached virtual
disk still does not show up in the Guest until the Guest has been
rebooted.

Another release, another round of interface name changes.

[Bug 701856] Re: Brother's printer/scanner drivers awkward to find and install

2016-08-05 Thread Tommy Trussell
I just upgraded to Xenial and the situation is the same. However I
wanted to note that the script in comment #27 didn't work for me.

Here's a procedure to get the brscan2 package work in Ubuntu Trusty or
Xenial:

1) Install the latest brscan2 package (I have brscan2-0.2.5-1.amd64.deb
)

2) Copy the drivers from /usr/lib64 to the correct directory:
  $ cd /usr/lib64
  $ sudo cp -pr lib* sane /usr/lib

3) Edit the file /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules
ADD the following 2 lines

# Brother DCP-7020
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0183", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

AFTER this line

LABEL="libsane_usb_rules_begin"

4) Tell udev to reload the updated rule file
$ sudo udevadm control --reload-rules

[Bug 1588359] Re: No way to add setup files at build time

2016-08-05 Thread Lee Trager
Instead of copying the files out of the source path it would be nice if
snapcraft allowed you to specify the path to the icon and license by
part. For example if I have a part called foo which contains the icon
and license in its source I should be able to do something like

icon: $foo/icon.png
license: $foo/COPYIING

Pretty simple & not unknown.
Test case:
Optimus laptop
14.04.5 install or 14.04.x upgraded to lts-xenial HWE stack
Install nvidia drivers, reboot
Upon reboot the greeter screen will be blank though the bell will be heard.
Wait 300+ sec. for idle time out, then wake machine up
At that point the display is enabled & will be such for the life of the login
session.

Solutions:
1. patch ubuntu-drivers-common to use modesetting for intel (very poor choice
I'd think
2. reduce the idle time out in unity-greeter.gschema.xml to 3-4 secs. ( another
poor choice but could inadvertently help out.
3. fix this issue ( likely not possible
4. pre-warn users/upgraders in a 14.04.5 release/upgrade note
5. provide a patched lts ubuntu-drivers-common only for 14.04.5 HWE

[Bug 1599952] Re: Blurred images with kernels after 4.2.x

2016-08-05 Thread RD
Support for kernel 4.2 would have been nice in the new release 14.04.5,
as it would have allowed those affected by this to still use an updated
version of 14.04 LTS...

[Bug 1598401] Re: No icons on the panel at all

2016-08-05 Thread Woo
I have had the same problem under Gnome on Ubuntu.

I discovered via the KDE list that Fedora users were short of the Oxygen
font library so I added oxygen-icon-theme. I now have fonts.

My first try was to add the optional/recommended KDE-Help system. That
didn't help and help didn't work, so I removed it again.

[Bug 1575055] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-08-05 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From mark...@us.ibm.com 2016-08-05 18:54 EDT---
This seems to be working now.

Did the following:
- Created a base image that included the cloud-init material. Cloned it and
provided the cloudconfig drive. Then did "sudo reboot" to soft reboot.
Verified no more warnings at the "init-local" stage. Verified successful
configuration from the cloudconfig drive.
- Ejected the cloudconfig drive. Did another soft reboot. Confirmed the boot
messages still looked good.

Tested with the following levels:

ubuntu@ubuntu03:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release

[Bug 1595690] Re: Mouse freezes on login to gnome desktop

2016-08-05 Thread Allan Kelly
I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04 today.
Mouse is working fine at the point logins are displayed.

Using Unity login, the mouse works for a few seconds after entering
password, then freezes before launcher appears and ceases to work until
reboot.

After reading replies in the askubuntu question above, I have installed
gnome-session-flashback and rebooted. Now I have three desktop choices
for login.

Ubuntu: freezes as before

We should also add support to update-notifier to update the motd
regarding the hwe-support-status information. This was done in precise

[Bug 1610456] [NEW] Tablet must start in landscape orientation mode by default

2016-08-05 Thread Doctor Rover
Public bug reported:

Tablet always starts in portrait orientation mode unless I hold it
absolutely vertically. The Log In screen appears in landscape mode which
is correct, but then, when I log in, the device switches to portrait. So
each time I use the device, I need to start from lifting it up to the
vertical position. The default mode for tablets must be landscape.

I use bq M10 tablet on rc-proposed channel with all daily updates
installed. Current build is r160.

[Bug 1610434] Re: Reboot after Trusty HWE upgrade freezes saying Restoring resolver state

** Description changed:

  Having updated update-manager from trusty-proposed yesterday I booted
  into Ubuntu GNOME Trusty w/Utopic HWE and update-notifier told me that
  my HWE was EOL so I accepted the upgrade. Everything seemed to complete
  successfully and I was notified to reboot. Upon doing so boot freezes
  with the message "Restoring resolver state". I was unsure what package
  to file this against and since I can't boot that install I was unable to
  file using ubuntu-bug anyway. This freeze occurs whether trying to boot
  the lts-xenial kernel or the older lts-utopic kernel.

[Bug 1610445] [NEW] Race condition under Trusty with fresh kernels

2016-08-05 Thread Ilya Evseev
Public bug reported:

There is fresh Trusty 14.04.5 host with all stuff installed from standard
Ubuntu repos:
- linux-image-generic-lts-wily = 4.2.0
- dahdi-dkms = 2.5.0.1+dfsg-1ubuntu4~14.04.4
- asterisk

This host hangs after executing of "dahdi create channels 1 4" command
in Asterisk console with tons of "chan_dahdi.c:12320 do_monitor: Read
failed with -1: Invalid argument" messages.

This problem was described in Asterisk's JIRA and fixed in dahdi 2.10.0.1, but
this fix still not backported to Trusty updates for 2.05:
https://issues.asterisk.org/jira/browse/DAHLIN-340

Can you backport it?

 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1608160] Re: 16.04 installation crashed

2016-08-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 16.04 is 16.04.1. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1608098] Re: Trying to do a new install using USB

2016-08-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM.  You might also retry
your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!
