[Bug 1619867] Re: Changes to Startup Application Preferences not being remembered in Ubuntu Unity 16.04

2016-09-06 Thread Robert Orzanna
Dear Gunnar,

Indeed I used the GUI to create the "Laptop Lid Indicator" startup file
which then seemed to have created "bash.desktop".

Should I maybe try to create entries manually from the command-line and
see if they persist upon reboot?

[Bug 1620906] [NEW] [Ubuntu1610][Libvirt] Postcopy migration with --postcopy-after-precopy option is not working as expected

Public bug reported:

real0m30.291s
user0m0.088s

---Issue---
1.Migration with option --postcopy-after-precopy should not start without
--live option. (if --postcopy option is used without --live "error: argument
unsupported: post-copy migration is not supported with non-live or paused
migration" is thrown)

2.Also from libvirt we couldn't validate whether migration happens
actually with postcopy enabled or not - as time taken with --postcopy-
after-precopy is more than precopy without it, ideally postcopy
migration should be faster.

3. In qemu we can check whether postcopy is enabled or not using "info
migrate") - can this be added as a feature in libvirt to give the status of
migration whether happens with postcopy enabled or not

[Bug 1596662] Re: pcscd fails to read CAC card data, errors out

2016-09-06 Thread carloslp
I was able to upgrade the firmware of the reader from a virtual machine
running windows with virt-manager/qemu.

But I don't recommend this method of upgrade.

You have to attach the broadcom usb device to the machine, then execute
the dell control vault2 firmware upgrade.

The thing is that once it starts the USB device will disappear, and it
will appear again with a 0a5c:5831 ID. You have to be quick to reatach
this new usb device (in live) on the machine so the upadate can
continue. And it will disappear again and appear again. Like 8 times. If
you fail to be quick in attaching the device the updater will abort and
will tell you to reboot.

If the device don't completes the update it will be unusable. It will
not identify itself as a smart card reader and will have the 0a5c:5831
ID.

You can however retry the update.

Once the upgrade completes the USB ID will change to 0a5c:5832 and it
will identify itself as a smart card reader.

Another important thing is that you have to enable the TPM and set it to
disable. And also attach the TPM as a passthrough device on the qemu/kvm
machine for it to work.

I finally was able to upgrade the firmware correctly using this dirty method.

So, meanwhile I achieved to upgrade the firmware from a windows virtual
machine, I don't recommend it.

I think in the end is simple and less risky to run the upgrade from
windows directly.

Its a shame that dell or broadcom don't provide a way of updating this
firmware without requiring windows.

[Bug 1586381] Re: Pip states report "AttributeError: 'Requirement' object has no attribute 'project_name'" since python-pip (8.1.1-2ubuntu0.1)

2016-09-06 Thread Florin Andrei
It also breaks TensorFlow and a lot of other things.

The workaround is to do "pip install --upgrade pip" to apply the fix
from upstream, but the Ubuntu package is still broken.

Please fix, this is a pretty serious issue for anyone using Python on
Ubuntu.

@zlacelle.. what you are missing is an updated libccid. You need version

[Bug 1579290] Re: Sierra EM7455 not working usbutils

2016-09-06 Thread David Jao
nils-anders, I investigated a little more and discovered that the modem
is non-functional when TLP is installed. Are you perhaps using TLP? If
so, that's the likely culprit. If not, there may also be other kernel
modules interfering. Check in
/lib/modules/4.4.0-36-generic/updates/dkms/ and see.

Clearly this setup is not ready for prime time. Too many things are
broken.

remains correct.

2016-09-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1556795 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1556795

I'm not completely sure this is a duplicate of bug 1607240 because that
one technically never existed in a form that users of non-X11 apps would
notice. Because Unity8 was also defaulting to slowing down scrolling by
a similar amount, which was a guestimate hack that kept most apps
scrolling at the right speed.

We only had to fix the whole stack (bug 1607240) in order to get high
precision touchpad scrolling implemented recently.

Maybe bug 1556795 is a better description?

[Bug 1566302] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image 4.4.0-16

2016-09-06 Thread Jason Gambrel
Same problem here. Lenovo G510 with I5 and integrated graphics. Just
installed elementary OS Loki Beta. Currently running 4.4.0-36-generic.
Randomly freezes on resuming from suspend. Screen does not blank out,
windows are visible but everything is unresponsive including
mouse/touchpad. Happens about 1 in 4 resumes.

Thinking this might be a video driver issue I just added the oibaf and
x-org/edgers ppas to update my graphics drivers to the latest by doing:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I'm not certain this will have any effect at all or even if it is a good
or bad idea to add both. One is likely enough. Did it this morning,
and so far no more freezing, but that might be luck. I will report
later in the week.

Jay

[Bug 1620834] Re: urdfdom needs to be synced to version 1.0.0

2016-09-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I think we want to wait a little longer so we can just sync the new
version from Debian.

I'm going to unsubscribe ubuntu-sponsors for now. Feel free to
resubscribe ~ubuntu-sponsors once the new version of urdfdom has been
accepted into Debian.

Or if it gets close to Ubuntu 16.10's release and the update still isn't
in Debian, resubscribe and attach a .debdiff.

Yeah, sounds like a hint to the BleachBit folks.

(hadn't seen your comment #46 when I posted my comment #47)

As regards those two packages, and based on your latest comments, I
assume that reinstalling was a no-op in 14.04, since you had a higher
version number installed than was available in the archive. That in turn
would explain why the files removed by BleachBit were back only when you
downgraded.

[Bug 1620854] [NEW] Audio playback works in slow motion after resume from suspension

2016-09-06 Thread Riccardo Maffei
Public bug reported:

The audio playback through HDMI works in slow motion after a resume from
suspension.

Before the suspension the audio works as expected on both the "internal
speaker" and "HDMI" output cards.
When you suspend (and then resume) the system the audio playback starts acting
weird through the HDMI output card.
The audio is played in slow motion and you can also see that the time of
playback is going on slower than the time in real life.

Let me describe one of the tests I've performed.
I've booted the system and started playing a song in vlc.
I've opened the Ubuntu sound settings.
I've selected the "HDMI" output card and the playback worked as expected.
I've selected the "Internal speakers" output card and the playback worked as
expected.

Then I've closed vlc, suspended and then resumed the system.

I've started playing a song in vlc again.
I've opened the Ubuntu sound settings.
I've selected the "HDMI" output card and the playback started working in slow
motion: the audio was extremely slow and also the time indicator was working
slowly (5 seconds of the song were played in about 10 seconds "in real life").
I've selected the "Internal speakers" output card and the playback started
working as expected again.

Please note that after a resume from suspension when you select the "Internal
speakers" card the bug disappears and when you select the "HDMI" card the bug
appears again.
I've tested this bug also with videos in vlc, in a browser and in totem. The
bug appears (or disappears) in the same way.
The bug affects every kind of audio, including system sounds.

Everything works fine before a suspension.
The only way I found to restore the before-suspension behavior is a reboot.

Steps to reproduce:
 * Make sure this is a fresh boot (never suspended since the last boot).
 * Play something with audio
(tested with: video in browser, song in vlc and Ubuntu speaker tests).
 * Select "Speakers - Internal audio" as output device (Audio works as
expected).
 * Select "HDMI - Internal audio" as output device (Audio works as expected).
 * Stop the audio playback.
 * Suspend and resume the system.
 * Play something again.
 * Select "Speakers - Internal audio" as output device (Audio works as
expected).
 * Select "HDMI - Internal audio" as output device (The bug appears).

Expected behavior:
 * Audio playback should work well through "Speakers - Internal audio" as
output device.
 * Audio playback should work well through "HDMI - Internal audio" as output
device.

Actual behavior:
 * Audio playback is working well through "Speakers - Internal audio" as output
device.
 * Audio playback is working in slow motion through "HDMI - Internal audio" as
output device.

[Bug 1620853] [NEW] dstat doesn't provide ZFS on Linux plugins

2016-09-06 Thread Hajo Möller
Public bug reported:

Now that Ubuntu ships with prebuilt ZFS modules it would be great if
relevant plugins would be included.

Upstream https://github.com/dagwieers/dstat/ provides:
- dstat_zfs_arc.py
- dstat_zfs_l2arc.py
- dstat_zfs_zil.py

Those plugins show the status of ZFS' "Adjustable Replacement Cache",
"Level 2 Adjustable Replacement Cache" and "ZFS Intent Log",
respectively.

[Bug 1573762] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - webbrowser-app does not launch

2016-09-06 Thread Anthony
I get the above errors, and when I try to launch with sudo I get the
following:

$ sudo webbrowser-app
[sudo] password for *:
No protocol specified
QXcbConnection: Could not connect to display :0
Aborted (core dumped)

Good old Nvidia doing what it does best. I am using the Nvidia
proprietary driver instead of xorg because the latter kept giving me
black screens with cursor on system wakeup (I say this in case the video
driver is a cause of the webbrowser fail).

[Bug 1424263] Re: Broken dependencies

2016-09-06 Thread Brian Murray
If you installed steam from here, http://store.steampowered.com/about/,
then on first run it tries to install 'libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 libgl1-mesa-
glx:i386 libc6:i386'. If you install the appropriate packages for your
HWE stack first, e.g. sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-wily:i386
libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-wily:i386, then you can successfully run steam. To
find out what HWE stack you have installed you can use the following
command:

dpkg -l | grep ii.*-lts

Regardless, this (the steam application manually trying to install
packages) is not something we the developers of Ubuntu can fix so I'm
setting this to Invalid.

[Bug 1599516] Re: No accented letters in window title bars, dash and hud.

2016-09-06 Thread Coeur Noir
** Description changed:

  Hi,

I've noticed problems with accented letters since few days in 16.04
  Unity :

  - in window title bar, accented letters are replaced with « square
symbols ». It happens in all softwares when windows are not maximized.
Once maximized, accented letters are correctly shown ( in top panel, for
example : Vidéos, Téléchargements… ). Wrong display of accented letters
comes back once window is un-maximized.

  - in dash, accented letters are ignored. If I type « démarrage » on
keyboard I get « dmarrage » in dash

  - [edit] same behaviour in HUD, no accented letters there either, which
  is very annoying in french.

I did not have those behaviours some days ago.

[Bug 1607185] Re: It's difficult to close the launcher without tapping on something you didn't want to

2016-09-06 Thread Victor Gabillon
I have the same problem, and agree with Daniel. For the phone at least,
I think that when the left launcher is revealed, the first touch that is
outside of the left launcher should only hide the left launcher and not
activate whatever is outside of the launcher. It would be very practical
and intuitive.
