[Bug 1592870] Re: Xerus_Wallpaper_Grey_4096x2304.png is a terrible default wallpaper filename

2016-09-08 Thread Jeremy Bicha
My initial thought is that ubuntu-wallpapers.xml.in should have
ubuntu-default-greyscale-wallpaper.png

and we should remove Yak_Wallpaper_Grey_4096x2304.png from
yakkety-wallpapers.xml.in
and remove Suru_Wallpaper_Desktop_4096x2304_Gray.png from
ubuntu-wallpapers.xml.in

That way, users who use the Settings app to set their wallpaper to the
grey version in 16.10 will automatically get the new gray version when
they upgrade to 17.04.

I believe we've previously always removed the old aubergine wallpapers
with new versions (Ubuntu doesn't make it easy for someone to keep the
14.04 version of the default wallpaper when upgrading to 16.04. On the
other hand, 10 slightly different aubergine wallpapers in the chooser
for someone who upgrades to every Ubuntu release is probably a
problem.). If we're going to change that now for the gray version then
we should change it for the aubergine version too.

[Bug 1621735] [NEW] missing symlink for liblldb-3.8-div

2016-09-08 Thread Вячеслав Бажинов
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to link to `lldb` after installing `liblldb-3.8-dev` but fail to do
so.
I guess problem is in missing symlink:
$ llvm-config --libdir
/usr/lib/llvm-3.8/lib

$ ll /usr/lib/llvm-3.8/lib | grep lldb | grep .so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  14 июл 12 16:40 liblldb-3.8.0.so -> liblldb-3.8.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  16 июл 12 16:40 liblldb-3.8.so -> liblldb-3.8.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  14 июл 12 16:40 liblldb.so -> liblldb-3.8.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  39 июл 12 16:40 liblldb.so.1 ->
../../x86_64-linux-gnu/liblldb-3.8.so.1

As you can see, `liblldb-3.8.so` is pointing at `liblldb-3.8.so.1`, but
that file is missing. If I just copy `liblldb.so.1` to
`liblldb-3.8.so.1`, everything works.

Looks good.

** Description changed:

  [SRU Justification]
Since trusty, using mcopy to create directories will result in corrupted FAT
entries due to uninitialized memory. This leads to data loss when an fsck is
run on the filesystem.

- [Test case]
- 1. Run the script from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mtools/+bug/1619718/comments/2
- 2. Observe that you are prompted to fix corrupted filesystem entries
- 3. Install mtools from xenial-proposed
- 4. Run the reproducer.sh script again
- 5. Observe that the newly-created filesystem passes fsck with no errors.
+ [Test case]
+ 1. Install dosfstools and mtools from xenial.
+ 2. Run the script from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mtools/+bug/1619718/comments/2
+ 3. Observe that you are prompted to fix corrupted filesystem entries
+ 4. Install mtools from xenial-proposed
+ 5. Run the reproducer.sh script again
+ 6. Observe that the newly-created filesystem passes fsck with no errors.

  [Regresion potential]
This is a one-line fix to correct uninitialized memory. The only regression
potential is that associated with rebuilding the tools with a new toolchain
(the last rebuild of these binary packages was in vivid, with gcc-4.9).

  [Original bug description]

on arm images the vfat used for the boot partition corrupts itself after
a few reboots (it is noteworthy that on uboot/arm installations we write
a lot more to the vfat. i would actually expect this to happen on x86
systems as well, just a lot later, i.e. after a few kernel updates)

there seem to be various differences in how ubuntu-image creates the
  vfat ...

  in ubuntu-device-flash we use:
  mkfs.vfat -F 32 -S 512 -n ... against a loop mounted partition, the -S 512
value gets actually matched against blockdev --getss (and adjusted accordingly
if needed)

  ubuntu-image currently only calls:
"mkfs.vfat" without any options against an img file that represents the vfat
content.

u-d-f also just uses cp against the loop mounted partition while ubuntu-
image uses mtools' mcopy to put the files in place ...

the result is that at random

[Bug 1619867] Re: Changes to Startup Application Preferences not being remembered in Ubuntu Unity 16.04

Dear Gunnar,

Yes, indeed this was the case.

I tried to create my startup files manually in that file directory
without using the GUI.

And now it seems that these entries are persistent.

I don't really understand what the underlying issue is.

I will test this for several days more and see if anything changes!

Thanks for all your help so far!

[Bug 1581799] Re: radeon driver hangs : nothing else that static effect on display

2016-09-08 Thread magowiz
Hi Christopher,
I tried latest rc from 4.8 mainline series : 4.8-rc5 ,
using these packages :
linux-headers-4.8.0-040800rc5_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_all.deb
linux-headers-4.8.0-040800rc5-generic_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.8.0-040800rc5-generic_4.8.0-040800rc5.201609041832_amd64.deb
from this url :
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8-rc5/

uname -a says I'm running that kernel :
Linux liano 4.8.0-040800rc5-generic #201609041832 SMP Sun Sep 4 22:34:01 UTC
2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

But I still get the same issue I reported initially.

Can we report it upstream ?
Any chances we get back proprietary fglrx driver support on next Ubuntu release
( 16.10 ) ? With that driver at least mine APU was working for graphical
purposes.

Best regards,
magowiz

[Bug 1621732] [NEW] gedit doesn't show last newline

2016-09-08 Thread Ray Satiro
Public bug reported:

echo 'foo' | tee -a testfile

od -t x1 testfile

gedit testfile

It shows foo as if it doesn't end in a linefeed. In other words I'd
expect the last place I could set the cursor as below the line with foo
but instead the last place is right after the last o.

[Bug 1621699] Re: Upgrade to 16.04.1 LTS incorrect disk enumeration

2016-09-08 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1621699/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1621725] [NEW] iwlegacy/iwl3945 driver flashes LED on traffic by default

2016-09-08 Thread David Dombrowsky
Public bug reported:

This bug is still present in 16.04. When using the iwlegacy driver, the
default behavior is to have the blue LED indicator flash whenever
traffic is going over the wireless. This is annoying, as it is in the
user's face on most laptops.

The workaround is to add something like this to a new file named
/etc/modprobe.d/iwled.conf

   options iwlegacy led_mode=1

I suggest that this mode be the default, and require a configuration
change to ENABLE the flashing.

[Bug 1621724] [NEW] Blueman disconnected icon is too emphasized

2016-09-08 Thread Dan Dascalescu
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Blueman and noticed that when BT is off, the icon is
REALLY HIGHLIGHTED.

This may or may not be desired, but I find the convention adopted by the
default Bluetooth system indicator in Ubuntu Unity to make more sense.
In the screenshot, Bluetooth is off, and the default icon is disabled,
while Blueman is BLUE. Turning Bluetooth on makes both icons look grey
on black.

(Side note: it would be nice of Blueman offered an option to replace the
default Bluetooth manager's icon, so we wouldn't see two icons.)

[Bug 1618952] Re: Display brightness keys not registered by ~$acpi_listen

2016-09-08 Thread Omadas
Despite the errors the Kernel ran fine, and I witnessed a visible difference in
performance of LightDM after boot (Increased responsiveness and faster load
time) and an increase in boot speed.
This kernel is working well, but the buttons for both brightness, (and airplane
mode) are still unresponsive to acpi.

~ $ uname -a
Linux Asus-X540LA 4.8.0-040800rc3-generic #201608212032 SMP Mon Aug 22 00:34:39
UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Sorry about my initial response to your post, I was looking for a more familiar
way of updating the kernel, but I was able to get it to work after following
the wiki link you gave me. Despite the errors during dpkg, the Kernel ran
fine, and I witnessed a visible difference in performance of LightDM after boot
(Increased responsiveness and faster load time) and an increase in boot speed.
This kernel is working well, but the buttons brightness (and airplane mode) are
still unresponsive to acpi. acpi_listen is still not responding to those
specific function keys. As per your request I will mark this as "Confirmed".
and add the tag 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

[Bug 1621704] [NEW] Inconsistent javascript var values - Desktop vs Arm Kit - Qt 5.6

2016-09-08 Thread Bob
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

I'm working on a simple Ubuntu phone app with Qt Creator 3.5.1

I should mention I'm running ubuntu-sdk on Linux Mint 18 Sarah.Kernel
version #37-Ubuntu SMP

After recently (9/7) updating the Build Kits (UbuntuSDK for armhf (GCC
ubuntu-sdk-15.04-vivid)) && (UbuntuSDK for i386 (GCC ubuntu-
sdk-15.04-vivid)) I am getting some bad javascript variable values.

When building and running the app with the Desktop Kit, I'm getting
different javascript var values (which are incorrect) than when building
and running on a phone with the armhf kit.

In the below function getAddress(type) the variables stip1, stip2,
stip3, stip4 return inconsitent values.

Example output:

(Desktop)
input: 192.168.127.64/26
Start IP Address: 192.168.64.64

(Arm Kit on Phone)
input: 192.168.127.64/26
Start IP Address: 192.168.127.64 <-- correct

Thanks,

Bob

[Bug 1621215] Re: Sidebar: Other Locations fails to open

2016-09-08 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I'm reassigning this from (nautilus and glib2.0) to (gtk+3.0 and
glib2.0) because upgrading gtk+3.0 to 3.21.5 also fixes this and
downgrading back to yakkety's gtk+3.0 brings the bug back.

Therefore, I believe this bug can be fixed in either GTK or glib.

[Bug 1621699] [NEW] Upgrade to 16.04.1 LTS incorrect disk enumeration

2016-09-08 Thread konsole
Public bug reported:

My system had this disk configuration running 14.04 without issue:
1 SATA SSD ext4 on internal 6Gb SATA port was /dev/sda with 14.04 OS installed.
3 SATA disks (zfs raidz) on internal 3Gb SATA ports was /dev/sd[bcd]
8 SATA disks ext4 on LSI Megaraid 9240-8i in IT mode was /dev/sd[efghijkl]

Upgrade to 16.04.1 LTS now looks like this:
1 SATA SSD ext4 on internal 6Gb SATA port is now /dev/sdi with 16.04.1
installed.
3 SATA disks (zfs raidz) on internal 3Gb SATA ports is now /dev/sd[jkl]
8 SATA disks ext4 on LSI Megaraid 9240-8i in IT mode are /dev/sd[abcdefgh]

The sytem boots, but any utils e.g. smartd, hdparm etc. referencing
/dev/sda are now fubared.

Booting a 12.04 LiveCD enumerates the disks correctly.
Booting a 16.04 Lice CD enumarates the disks incorrectly as described above.

I'm pointing the blame for this at mpt3sas.ko (kernel module loaded for
the LSI hba) which was previously mpt2sas.ko

This bug is completely repeatable on every boot.

2016-09-08 Thread Mathew Hodson
I verified that this bug affects procps on my Trusty system and the new
lsb-base package fixes it.

$ ls -l /etc/init.d/procps

After installing lsb-base (4.1+Debian11ubuntu6.2), service --status-all
correctly shows that procps is not running.

[Bug 1539775] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-09-08 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From prad...@us.ibm.com 2016-09-08 21:05 EDT---
(In reply to comment #33)

A big thank you for your help with in moving this forward. Appreciate
all the effort that has gone into it.

Hopefully I can answer several of your questions and alleviate your
concerns. First let me paint the overall picture and answer some of the
specifics later.

Our team has been active in the community for a few months and have been
submitting several patches to bring Power on par with other
architectures. In fact just today we got an ack for one of the
outstanding issues. That should clear the way for acceptance of the
entire patch set upstream.

Right now our focus is the Mellanox adapter and that is why we requested
support in Ubuntu 16.10 with MLNX_OFED. We hope to be able to remove
that limitation in a future Ubuntu release. If it is acceptable, we
would like to suggest the following steps:

1. Start with Ubuntu 16.10 Tech Preview and support only Mellanox adapter
(requires MLNX_OFED)
2. In Ubuntu 17.04 expand the Tech Preview to include additional adapters
3. Lift the Tech preview in 17.10

That should hopefully erase some of the concerns and ease acceptance. We
are committed to supporting DPDK on Power.

> Hi,
> thanks for testing, sad that there could have been no HW test and also that
> it was only testpmd.

We have been working with upstream DPDK 16.07 and have locally tested
ip_pipeline and other tests as well. We have tested the LPM and ACL
libraries as well. Once the patches go upstream (as mentioned
previously), these can be pulled into Ubuntu 16.10 as well.

One of the things we discovered during the course of our testing is that
package ovs-dpdk has not been enabled on Power in the ppa.

The Tech Preview request is only for DPDK on Power in Ubuntu 16.10.
Previous responses should help ease your concerns.

We have been working with upstream DPDK 16.07 as mentioned

I understand some of your concerns. It is precisely to facilitate
thorough testing that we are requesting a Tech Preview. The request is
to release note it with a "Tech Preview" label only for the Mellanox
devices. In this way, a customer will not attempt to use other devices.

Yes, we do understand the commitment required from IBM and previous
responses should provide the assurance you are seeking.

The previous suggestion provides a roadmap for DPDK availability on
Ubuntu (on Power)

Given the previous explanations, can you move these to the main archive?
That would be our preference. This will also enable additional run time
outside of IBM. Please let us know what you think, and what are the next
steps moving forward.

[Bug 579773] Re: telnet.netkit assert failure: telnet: ring.cc:143: int ringbuf::flush(): Assertion `top-bot > 0 && top-bot <= count' failed.

2016-09-08 Thread Gregory Fong
I'm still seeing this issue on Ubuntu 14.04. Simplest way I've found to
reproduce so far:

  yes | telnet some-valid-host

Crashes for me almost immediately with

  telnet: ring.cc:143: int ringbuf::flush(): Assertion `top-bot > 0 && top-bot
<= count' failed.
  Aborted (core dumped)

Installed telnet version is 0.17-36build2.

[Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-09-08 Thread pcjason
Hello,
I am just chiming in to confirm that rebuilding the PulseAudio package without
the 05XX and 06XX series of patches included resolves this issue on my
Plantronics BackBeat Go 2 (PLT_BBTGO2) bluetooth headphones. If there is
anything that I can do to help debug the issue, please let me know.
