[Bug 1572653] Re: keyboard does not show up on xenial

2016-09-24 Thread Kris
First of all, I am sorry that I misjudged where my problem belonged to.
Secondly, I am very thankful for your reply and happy to confirm that following
steps in ubuntu phone shell allowed for a gtk application running within xmir
did enable OSK in this app:

 $ sudo mount -o remount,rw /
 $ sudo apt-get install maliit-inputcontext-gtk3 maliit-inputcontext-gtk2
 $ sudo mount -o remount,ro /

[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2016-09-24 Thread Sami Jaktholm
As a workaround, you can run the following commands to allow Firefox to
access shared memory:

  echo "/dev/shm/org.chromium.* rw," | sudo tee -a
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox
  sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox

That should make e10s work again with AppArmor enforcement enabled.

[Bug 1159707] Re: Cinnamon panel / task bar becomes unresponsive to mouse

2016-09-24 Thread catweazel
This problem also occurs in Mint 18 with Cinnamon 3.

Right-clicking the panel, selecting Troubleshoot then restarting
Cinnamon temporarily fixes it. It's rather sad that this issue has been
around for over 3 years now.

[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled

2016-09-24 Thread Sami Jaktholm
Okay. I dug a bit deeper and this issue is caused by the AppArmor
profile shipped with Firefox that I have enabled. The syslog contains
following entries from AppArmor when running Firefox e10s enabled and
the firefox profile in enforce mode:

audit: type=1400 audit(1474776774.198:579): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="mknod" profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
name="/dev/shm/org.chromium.h4apSY" pid=5022 comm=57656220436F6E74656E74
requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

audit: type=1400 audit(1474776774.222:580): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="mknod" profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
name="/dev/shm/org.chromium.VpQMbW" pid=5022 comm=57656220436F6E74656E74
requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

So Firefox tries to access /dev/shm but the default AppArmor profile
denies it. So the profile needs to be changed to make it compatible with
e10s.

** Summary changed:

- Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled
+ Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

** Description changed:

  STR:
- 1. Open Firefox 49 with clean profile
+ 0. Enable enforce mode for the Firefox app-armor profile: sudo aa-enforce
usr.bin.firefox
+ 1. Open Firefox 49 with clean profile (or force-enable e10s as per
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Electrolysis#Force_Enable and restart Firefox)
  2. Go to any site

What happens: The site loads but the content is rendered blank. The page
is loaded properly since I can hover over (invisible) links and see the
cursor change & the address to be shown in the bottom of the window.

What should happen: The site is rendered properly.

- This is related to e10s and how the Ubuntu builds are configured / built:
- * If e10s is disabled, everything works fine.
- * If I download Firefox 49 release build built by Mozilla, pages are rendered
correctly with both e10s and non-e10s windows.
-
- If I execute firefox from the command line, I see the following output
repeated constantly:
- [GFX1]: Failed 2 buffer db=0 dw=0 for 1356, 0, 64, 673
- [GFX1]: Failed 2 buffer db=0 dw=0 for 0, 0, 64, 500
- ... continues forever with different coordinates
+ This is related to e10s and the default AppArmor profile shipped with
+ firefox.

See the attached screenshot for how the first-run page looks like with a
- clean profile.
+ clean profile, e10s and AppArmor enabled.

[Bug 1627407] Re: package tomcat8 8.0.32-1ubuntu1.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127

2016-09-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-09-24 Thread Kathy Reid
Hi guys, I am experiencing the same issue from my Plantronics Backbeat
Go 2 bluetooth headphones (PLT_BBTGO2). The headphones pair correctly,
but then disconnect 2 seconds afterwards.

The headphones are confirmed to be pairing and working correctly on
Nexus 5 stock Android, and Windows 10.

I am running Xenial: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS with kernel 4.4.0-38-generic

Prior to this I was running 12.04 LTS and they worked correctly.

My pulseaudio log shows (among less relevant stuff):

Sep 25 12:51:13 kathyreid-N76VZ pulseaudio[13654]: [pulseaudio]
backend-native.c: connect(): Function not implemented
Sep 25 12:51:13 kathyreid-N76VZ pulseaudio[13654]: [pulseaudio] volume.c:
Assertion 'pa_channels_valid(channels)' failed at pulse/volume.c:74, function
pa_cvolume_set(). Aborting.

The pulseaudio bluetooth module is installed.
ofono is installed (I installed it to try and get it working)
I am NOT using blueant.

Before installing Joakim's PPA is there anything you'd like me to test /
get logs of? I'd be very happy to test Joakim's PPA / provide any other
debug information that may be of assistance.

(A huge thanks to all the people in this thread - this is excellent
debugging information).

Kind regards,
Kathy

[Bug 1627414] [NEW] gpg-agent is waking up on a pselect about every 2 seconds on an idle system

2016-09-24 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

While trying to identify processes that are causing system wakeups while
idle, I observed that gpg-agent is waking up on a pselect about every 2
seconds. I observed this activity using health-check and monitoring the
gpg-agent for 5 minutes on an idle system:

sudo apt install health-check
sudo health-check -p gpg-agent -c -f -r -d 300

Attached is a log of the output analysis from health-check

Should gpg-agent be that busy for an idle machine? Unnecessary wakeups
break a CPU from the deepest sleep states and this consumes power.

[Bug 1627409] [NEW] xbrltty seems to be active even on a totally idle machine

2016-09-24 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

I've been trying to figure out what processes are active even on an idle
machine to try and save power consuming wake-ups. I attached health-
check to the xbrlapi process for 10 minutes on a totally idle machine
and observed quite a lot of open/close and socket activity (over 2 per
second) which I think is a little odd for an idle system.

To measure activity I used:

sudo apt install health-check
sudo health-check -p 1696 -c -f -r -d 360

where -p 1696 specified the PID of the process.

Attached is a log of activity.

Should xbrltty be so active on an idle system?

[Bug 1627408] [NEW] Severe graphics regression with mainline kernel v4.7.5 on Broadwell 5500U

2016-09-24 Thread Nicholas Stommel
Public bug reported:

I would like to report a severe graphics regression, involving frequent
rainbow-glitching and flickering on a x64 computer with Intel Broadwell
5500U processor w/ integrated graphics. This issue was not present on
kernel v4.7.4, which I will continue to use. Due to unfortunate issues
with Broadwell integrated graphics support, virtually every kernel build
in the 4.8 release chain as well as the newest v4.7.5 kernel have this
issue. Dramatic multicolored patches and glitched areas appear
frequently when using my computer with these kernels installed. The
behavior is very similar to that of the Broadwell graphics issues
present in kernel version 4.6.x. Please fix this issue, I don't
understand why NEWER kernels are actually causing significant graphical
problems with older hardware.

[Bug 1584042] Re: Hyper-V NIC cannot pass IPv6 UDP packets by default until protocol offload is disabled

Just now, I was writing memo of the Ubuntu VM in Hyper-V, and read again

"TCP Segmentation and Checksum Offloads" are available on Windows Server
operating system version " 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2". They do not
mention UDP's.

[Bug 1627252] Re: Recognize album artwork with "Album title.supported_extension" filename

2016-09-24 Thread Gregory Opera
Whilst I can only speak for myself, I know that Fiio's music players
support such a format for album artwork, and back when I used to use
Microsoft Windows-based operating systems exclusively, a number of
programs also supported album artwork in this format.

We also have Sony Blu-Ray Disk players and various-brand televisions
that detect album artwork based on this filename format.

[Bug 1627252] Re: Recognize album artwork with "Album title.supported_extension" filename

2016-09-24 Thread Michi Henning
Do you have any examples for music players that recognise
.? (I'm not aware of any at this point.)

The existing list of file names exists because they are widely used by
various players, so we are just following established precedent here. We
can look at supporting this, but I'd prefer to do this only if there are
popular music players that already support this. If not, I don't think
we'd be doing the world a favour by adding yet another file name
convention to the already messy situation.

[Bug 1627400] [NEW] thermald: fix incorrect target state settting by thermald

2016-09-24 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

We should be including this latest upstream fix:

It was observed that in the case of cooling device with min_state > max_state,
thermald doesn't set the cooling device to the intended target state per the
configuration in XML. This is because of sorting the zone_trip_limits list in
ascending order based on target value is not suitable for the case of cooling
device with min_state > max_state. Thus this issue is fixed by:

1. sorting the zone_trip_limits list in descending order based on target value
for the case of cooling device with min_state > max_state.

2. sorting the zone_trip_limits list in ascending order based on target value
for the case of cooling device with max_state > min_state.

Example cooling device configuration which caused this issue:

gpu_cooling
/sys/class/mali/pm/max_freq_level
4
1
.

Fix commit fd0671beba14586eb3e0b0fa2247a00100e6d418

[Bug 1301125] Re: Lock screen after idle time freezes unity

2016-09-24 Thread Francis Chin
I had the issue that Emmanuel describes, with a fresh install of 16.04.1
LTS 64-bit on a self-built machine with Athlon 64 X2 CPU and IGP ATI
RS690 (X1200) and the open source radeon driver and kernels from
4.4.0-31 to -38.

As per Jonas's comment #50, cannot switch TTY, but as I've enabled
REISUB I can Alt-SysRq-R then E before I can regain control, but then
systemd keeps restarting the desktop. A more stable workaround was to
set up ssh and ssh in from another box and restart lightdm. Setting the
idle time for the screen saver to Never was only partially satisfactory
as manually locking the screen would also trigger the screen fade-out
and thus the bug. Interestingly, manually blanking the screen using
"xset s activate" would blank the screen and not trigger the bug, so it
doesn't appear to be a DPMS problem.

While sshing in from another box, at the point of triggering the bug
there was no output to Xorg.0.log, nor syslog, nor kern.log. However,
after some attempted keyboard & mouse activity on the affected system,
Xorg.0.log did show an MIEQ overflow backtrace:

(EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing
events are processed.

(EE) [mi] mieq is *NOT* the cause. It is a victim.

As this suggested a problem with the graphics stack, I tried the latest
drivers from the Oibaf PPA, and so far I haven't been able to reproduce
the bug. I don't know which component/version is responsible for the
apparent fix.

[Bug 1627395] [NEW] Skip zenity guest warning dialog in MATE

2016-09-24 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

When you enter a guest session, a zenity warning dialog is started to
explain the nature of the guest session. In Ubuntu MATE a welcome window
is shown when a regular user logs in for the first time. When you enter
a guest session, an adapted version of that welcome window is shown,
which essentially provides the same information as the zenity dialog and
makes the latter redundant. Hence the zenity dialog should not be shown
when you enter a guest session in Ubuntu MATE.

[Bug 1627394] [NEW] Allow moving the top panel to the bottom in Unity

2016-09-24 Thread Dan Dascalescu
Public bug reported:

We know that Unity aims for a simple and consistent desktop experience.

I've also been pleasantly surprised to notice that the launcher can now
be moved to the bottom. I hope Unity is becoming more customizable,
while keeping the experience simple, with good defaults.

I would like to suggest having the the ability to move the panel from
the top, to the bottom, but keeping it by default to the top.

Use cases:

1. Consistency with other DEs that the user must use. For example, at
work I have to use a DE that has the panel at the bottom. When I want to
check the time, my eyes go to the bottom right. When I'm on my personal
laptop and want to check the time, I reflexively check the bottom down
corner of the screen. There's nothing there, and I need to look in the
upper right corner.

2. Large monitors in portrait mode. These monitors place the panel at
the extreme top. It may be more comfortable for the use to look at the
bottom of the monitor than at the top.

Thank you.

[Bug 1509139] Re: Shows "Chromium isn't your default browser" since 15.10.

2016-09-24 Thread Dany
#34 not works in Linux Mint (the line 198 is not the same).

Also, I try with:
change lines #177 and #202 in the file /usr/bin/xdg-settings from

command="`grep -E "^Exec(\[[^]=]*])?=" "$file" | cut -d= -f 2- |
first_word`"

to

command="`grep -E "^Exec(\[[^]=]*])?=" "$file" | cut -d= -f 2- |
first_word | head -n 1`"

But also, not works in Linux Mint (18 KDE).

[Bug 1610499] Re: /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has bug in killing process group

2016-09-24 Thread Xin Xia
I met exactly the same problem when using hadoop in ubuntu 16.04, and
copied /bin/kill in ubuntu14.04 to ubuntu16.04 following Dongdong88's
suggestion. However it renders /bin/kill simply unusable due to the lack
of shared library (the built-in "kill" still works though). I created a
link file libprocps.so.3 in /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu and targeted it to
libprocps.so.4.0.0. But I am not sure if that will make the issue come
back again. We may try copying and use libprocps.so.3.0.0 in ubuntu16.04
if so. I haven't got a chance to test it yet.
