[Bug 1626068] Re: JEDIT causes an extra icon to be display in the left upper corner (line 2) which covers up "close" icon
I think it might be rather related to Ubuntu's patches (not necessarily to jEdit but to the window management). I've just seen this bug report, because I was subscribed to the package as a previous uploader, but won't look into this issue. [Bug 1631560] [NEW] Narrow spacing of icons in Files affects file names
Public bug reported: When I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.10 beta a few days ago, horizontal distance between icons in Files and on the desktop got much smaller. Because of this there's less room horizontally for the file names, and many words got their last letters cut off to the next row. In many file names full rows now alternate with rows of only a couple of cut off letters. Name fields with longer file names also look disproportionately narrow and tall now. I think the spacing should be changed back to what it was, or at least it should be user selectable. [Bug 1631474] Re: No networking with initramfs-tools 0.122ubuntu8.3 and ip=dhcp boot option
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * 0.122ubuntu8.3 of initramfs-tools no longer correctly processed + ip=dhcp or ip=:eth0:dhcp + + * Regression-updates + + * The fix better parses the ip= command line argument. + + [Test Case] + + * Create a machine that boots using an nfsroot. + + * Use ip=:eth0:dhcp on the kernel command line. To set up +networking. + + * Discover that the device never comes up because, networking is not + conifgured correctly. + + [Regression Potential] + + * Regressions potential is limited to machines using + ip={""|*|on|any|dhcp} on the kernel command line. As this is + already broken regression potential is minimal. + + [Other Info] + + * There are a number of other issues in this code base that are not solved by this fix. + * The networking configuration does not strictly follow the kernel documentation as described https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/filesystems/nfs/nfsroot.txt . This should be fixed. + + Original Bug Description Follows== + initramfs-tools 0.122ubuntu8.3 introduced a serious regression where networking is not initialized when the boot option "ip=dhcp" is provided. We are seeing this problem in AWS, but cannot confirm if this issue is specific to AWS or will occur with different hardware or in different environments. Removing "ip=dhcp" from the boot options with 0.122ubuntu8.3 results in networking being configured. The issue does not occur with 0.122ubuntu8.2 or previous versions when "ip=dhcp" is set. AWS has no console so debugging is not a trivial task. [Bug 1631553] [NEW] With UFW enabled, kernel reports SYN flooding
Public bug reported: So, this is a fun one. I have an Epson XP-610 multifunction scanner/printer/coffeemaker/whiskey distillery. It uses an XSane plugin, which spawns an intermediary network app (/usr/lib/iscan/network) which detects and talks to the scanner. These packages can all be obtained from here: http://support.epson.net/linux/en/iscan_c.html. Anyway, if you have UFW disabled, it works. If you enable UFW, however it works intermittently and takes forever to start up. Checking my syslog, I find: Oct 6 22:48:00 hiro kernel: [48176.543355] TCP: request_sock_TCP: Possible SYN flooding on port 40796. Dropping request. Check SNMP counters. A wireshark capture shows two things: 1.) It is communicating on that port on the "lo" interface, not any real interface. 2.) There's one SYN. Not a lot. Just a single SYN. And then TCP retries. And then eventually it works. Sometimes. Anyway, if I edit /etc/ufw/sysctl.conf, and set net/ipv4/tcp_syncookies=1, and then disable and reenable UFW, it works, with the following syslog entry: Oct 7 20:26:18 hiro kernel: [13666.745140] TCP: request_sock_TCP: Possible SYN flooding on port 42751. Sending cookies. Check SNMP counters. Now, to be clear, I think the syncookies is a workaround for a more serious problem. Namely, why does the kernel think it's under attack to begin with? Anyway, I'm not certain this is really a UFW bug, but I'm starting here because UFW seems to make it worse. Feel free to reclassify as a kernel bug. [Bug 1631328] Re: ceph-osd stays blocked on Yakkety: "No block devices detected using current configuration"
I think the right answer here is for ceph-osd to Pre-Depend: on ceph- common which sets up the users, then there's no need to reload because the rules will parse correctly the first time. Also, in looking at the binary package, I don't see anywhere that ceph- osd ever calls 'udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=block --action=change' - this still needs to be explicitly done, independent of the reload handling (or not), in order to apply the newly-installed rules to existing devices. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1631328 Title: ceph-osd stays blocked on Yakkety: "No block devices detected using current configuration" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ceph/+bug/1631328/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1631519] Re: No X on boot with external monitor connected
A monitor attached to the Thinkpad x230 via the docking station DVI port is fine (boots to X and no crazy window trails). This is seen when attaching a monitor via DP on the dock or mDP from the laptop. I was using an mDP to HDMI cable or a DP to DualLink-DVI adapter to connect monitors when I found this issue. Multiple monitors were tried and all experienced the issue when connect to the monitor's HDMI port from the laptop's mDP port. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1631519 Title: No X on boot with external monitor connected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1631519/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1631519] Re: No X on boot with external monitor connected
The attached gif tries to show the effect of moving a window across the screen. Not captured in the low-framerate gif is that the trails of the window are flickering and moving (compiz cpu usage is high when this happens). Hitting WIN+w to display windows and then drop back to the desktop clears the current trail. But that is not a reasonable workaround and does not address the basic issue that the livecd (or a fully installed desktop) does not boot to X with an external monitor attached.

[Bug 1631528] [NEW] Blank screen after grub menu
Public bug reported: After a fresh install of Ubuntu Mate 16.04.1 on my laptop I have some problems booting. After the grub menu the screen goes blank and nothing happens after that. I think the system is booting properly apart from the screen not showing anything, I can change the volume using the hardware keys and I can connect with SSH from another machine. I've found two workarounds for this problem. 1) Select recovery mode from the grub meny and then resume normal boot, however, the screen resolution is not set properly. 2) Change my grub config file to boot into text mode. I commented out the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" and changed GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=”text" and uncommented the line #GRUB_TERMINAL=console After running sudo update-grub and rebooting the system boots into MATE and the correct screen resolution is set.
