[Bug 1607535] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.4+nmu1ubuntu2 fails to install core fonts and should be updated to version 3.6 from Debian

2016-10-08 Thread harrym
Not sure how general this observation is, but I can confirm that
*.sourceforge.net is inaccessible (telnet, or ping) from my expressvpn servers.
Disconnecting the vpn makes them available again.
Note that all the 3.6 url's are blocked in this way.

Once i disconnected the vpn temporarily, the fonts installed as
expected.

Bottom line: sourceforge is unreliable. files need to be located
elsewhere.

[Bug 1248256] Re: [MacBookPro10, 1] Plugging in displayport monitor causes kworker to take 100% CPU

2016-10-08 Thread Dee
Not sure the status of this bug, but I just installed Ubuntu
5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.2 with Linux version 4.4.0-38-generic on a dual
core machine with an onboard GeForce 9400.

I ran into the issue of one of the cores running at 100% when ever I
turned on my monitor and connected to the terminal via DVI/HDMI. If I
reboot and only ssh to the machine I get <1% usage across both cores at
idle, but as soon as I switch on the monitor one of the cores jumps to
100%

I ran "sudo perf record -g -a sleep 20" then "sudo perf report --sort
comm, dso" and this is what I found in the report:

- 100.00%99.85% kworker/1:7 [kernel.kallsyms]
   - 100.00% ret_from_fork
kthread
worker_thread
  - process_one_work
 - 99.97% nvif_notify_work
+ nouveau_connector_hotplug
 + 0.03% nvkm_notify_work
 + 0.00% vmstat_update
 0.00% native_write_msr_safe
- 100.00% 0.09% kworker/1:7 [nouveau]
   - 99.88% nvif_notify_work
  - nouveau_connector_hotplug
 - 99.87% drm_helper_hpd_irq_event
- 99.86% nouveau_connector_detect
   + 96.48% drm_get_edid
   + 3.39% i2c_transfer
   + 0.00% drm_mode_object_find
+ 0.00% mutex_unlock
 + 0.01% mutex_lock
   + 0.09% ret_from_fork
   + 0.03% nvkm_notify_work
+ 99.96% 0.00% kworker/1:7 [drm_kms_helper]
+ 99.93% 0.05% kworker/1:7 [i2c_algo_bit]
+ 96.56% 0.01% kworker/1:7 [drm]
+0.01% 0.00% kworker/1:7 [forcedeth]

So it looks like I got struck but this same hotplug issue. If I connect
to my monitor via VGA i don't get the CPU spike...works for me since I
am running my machine headless but if anyone else needs to connect via
HDMI/DVI this could be an issue. I'm not sure if installing the nvidia
drivers fixes the hotplug cpu spike up.

[Bug 1629197] Re: Suspend not working

2016-10-08 Thread Slither
It may have been 4.4.0.31 but booting to that via grub showed the same
issue so i think it may a change in more than just the kernel that's
caused this. Please note the only kernels installed on my machine now
are 4.4.0.38. I went down a path of elimination a week ago trying to
determine which was the good kernel. I did this by removing the lastest
kernel the testing the previous and repeating this process until I had
only 4.4.0.21 on my machine. This put ubuntu in a bad state where the
network keyboard and mouse failed to work even in safe mode. To fix that
i had to boot a livecd and then chroot to install the 4.4.0.38 kernel.
Sorry if this sounds confusuing.

[Bug 1631681] [NEW] Gadmin-Rsync - Local to Remote Backup via SSH Asks Again For Remote Password That is Already Stored in Gadmin-Rsync Job

2016-10-08 Thread Roy Gilby
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Gadmin-Rsync Version: 0.1.7-1

When using Gadmin-Rsync to create a Local to Remote Backup using SSH,
the dialog box asks for and stores both the Login Name and Password that
is required to access the remote server. However, when the backup is
run, the stored login name is utilised, but the stored password is
ignored, and the password is asked for via keyboard input.

This appears to be a bug whereby the application does not utilise the
remote server password that is already stored in the backup
configuration.

This bug causes User keyboard input (that is; re-enter the remote
server's password) to be required each time that the backup job is run,
and as a result the Gadmin-Rsync remote backup jobs can no longer be run
successfully as Cron Jobs.

This bug did not exist when using Gadmin-Rsync on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

[Bug 1631678] [NEW] Build in display doesn't show a screen

2016-10-08 Thread Yoshiaki Ono
Public bug reported:

I'm using UX21A Asus Zenbook Prime.

When I connected HDMI socket to an external display and turn on the
laptop, Ubuntu didn't show build in display even it said display was
recognized and activated. It happened on Ubuntu 16.04 and Linux Mint 18
Mint even when they were started as Live USB booting.

When I switched off the build in display and reactivate it through
Display Setting GUI, it started showing. But with xrandr command, it
didn't.

I unplugged HDMI and turn on the laptop and plug HDMI again after
confirmed the BIOS Logo, the problem didn't show up.

The situation I confirmed on several environment were all the same.

It suppose to be caused by a problem which the laptop considers the
external display as primary one.

So currently, I unplug the HDMI when I start it up.

I also asked in askubuntu.com but it doesn't seem I could get the
feedback. This is my first bug repport and please be kind.

[Bug 1441111] Re: Clicking the nautilus icon for focusing a window of an external device opens a new window instead

2016-10-08 Thread Greg Williams
This bug is still reproducible in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with Nautilus 3.14.3.
Note: this bug is NOT reproducible on Debian 8 running Gnome-Shell with
Nautilus 3.14.1.

Can someone please take a look at fixing this long-standing bug in
Ubuntu? It is incredibly frustrating to deal with.

Expected:
-only 1 window of the Nautilus application should open unless the user
specifically asks for more than one window (e.g., by right-clicking or pressing
Super+Shift+1).

What happens:
-multiple Nautilus applications are opened when dealing with an external drive.

Here is a recipe for reproducing this bug:
1) plug in an external drive (e.g., a usb stick)
2) press Super+1 to open Nautilus (assume user has disabled auto program start
on media insertion for security reasons)
3) notice how Nautilus opens to the HOME directory. Since I just inserted a USB
stick, I want to view it and I click on the Nautilus sidebar icon for the USB
stick.
4) I view the USB stick contents and then open Gedit via the Launcher and
proceed to type a new document.
5) I save the Gedit document onto the USB stick.
6) I press Super+1 to access Nautilus and view the contents of the USB stick.
BUT NAUTILUS OPENS A SECOND NAUTILUS WINDOW FOCUSED IN THE HOME DIRECTORY
INSTEAD OF TAKING ME TO THE ALREADY OPEN NAUTILUS WINDOW THAT IS FOCUSED IN THE
USB DIRECTORY
7) Since Nautilus opened a brand new window (in the HOME directory), I have to
click in the sidebar to view the USB directory.
8) Return to Gedit. And then press Super+1 to return to Nautilus again. AND A
THIRD NAUTILUS WINDOW OPENS TO THE HOME DIRECTORY.

I now have 3 nautilus windows open when I should only have 1.

[Bug 1438510] Re: [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp in 16.04 xenial

2016-10-08 Thread Doctor Rover
** Summary changed:

- [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp
+ [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp in 16.04 xenial

** Description changed:

Just installed 15.04 fresh from the latest ISO (beta2).

I'm bummed to see my bluetooth headset (Bose Soundlink overear) seems to
  have regressed in functionality.

In 14.10, I was able to set the output profile either to a2dp or hsp/hfp
  (telephony duplex).

In 15.04, it only works in telephony duplex mode. I can't get high
fidelity sound playback to work at all.

This thread seems to be related, though the workaround within did not solve
the problem for me:
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=194006
+
+ The bug is still present in 16.04 LTS.

2016-10-08 Thread Paul White
On an *existing* installation of Yakkety I'm seeing the last saved
session being displayed correctly.

Using 64-bit ISO 20161008 I'm seeing the last session saved correctly
when logging out of Unity8 but the icon is for Unity7. Logging back in
logs into Unity8.

So the last session is saved correctly, it's just the icon that in
incorrect.

[Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly(the notifyosd bubble on top-right corner)

2016-10-08 Thread rob cain
I had exactly the same problem (ubuntu 16.04 latest). Just started
happenning, no apparent cause or changes beforehand.

Tried all the usual suggestions: eg:

a) rm -r ~/.config/pulse; pulseaudio -k - reboot
b) Open VLC,Go to Preferences, then to Sound, click in the reset preferences
button,Close VLC
c) sudo alsa force-reload
d) alsamixer - auto-mute - disable

- worked for a little while, but then came back again.

Just done Anthony's workaround above (#18) - & so far it has worked
(thanks Anthony). just have to remember how to re-enable it agan
whenever i want to use headphones in future.

Seem to recall this same/similar problem plagued users on Ubuntu 12.04
for a while.

We seem to be going backwards a little with 16.04. Looking forward to a
fix.

[Bug 1631660] [NEW] Arrow keys not working in sqlite3 prompt

2016-10-08 Thread Ivan Popivanov
Public bug reported:

sqlite3 uses history via the readline library. It used to work just fine
on 14.04. After I upgraded to 16.04, the arrow keys stopped working.

The sqlite3 executable is NOT linked against the readline library, and
from googling on the internet that seems to be the reason why the keys
are not working.

You make call me any way you want but in fact, it worked in both 14.04 and

[Bug 1631606] Re: installer crashed

2016-10-08 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 14.04 is 14.04.5. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1631654] [NEW] Not available in Xenial Xerus (16.04 LTS)

2016-10-08 Thread aaronfranke
Public bug reported:

>From an installation of Xenial Xerus aka 16.04 LTS, I get this error
when trying to install amor:

$ sudo apt install amor
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package amor

What I expected to happen: amor would be installed.

What happened instead: The amor package could not be located.

I believe this package simply needs packaging for Xenial Xerus.

[Bug 1631653] [NEW] Bootloader grub2 not installed by installing Ubuntu 12.4 LTS with live-usb

2016-10-08 Thread Appaix
Public bug reported:

I am (re)installing Ubuntu on my desktop.
I created on a USB key an installer by downloading Ubuntu iso 12.04 LTS on the
website, then I used the dedicated tool to create the installer available on
the Ubuntu OS "Startup Disk Creator".

Then, I restarted the computer and booted on the USB.
I formatted the old Ubuntu partitions on my drives to have something entirely
"new".

I tried to install two times Ubuntu with the installer on USB, first
time setting the "/" location as logic and second time as primary. I
dedicated only 10Gb to "/" on my SSD and tried to create the "/home"
directory on my 2nd hard drives (HDD). For this latter, I also tried
both "logic" and "primary" settings.

However, every scenarios led me to the fianl error "grub2 could not been
installed"...

And now, I reporting you the issue...

Any helps or debugging stuff to do for you ?

On my side, I cannot live with computer (ha ha :-) ) so I will attempt
to repair grub with repair-tool.

[Bug 1630702] Re: Fix for CVE-2016-8332 and CVE-2016-7163

2016-10-08 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
This was my conclusion after looking through the CVEs in the list for
openjpeg2:

CVE-2014-7945: Half done but unconfirmable (some files are so different I am
unable to find the relevant lines in them).
CVE-2014-7947: Can’t find patch.
CVE-2015-8871: Seems a patched.
CVE-2016-1923: Can’t find patch.
CVE-2016-1924: Seems already patched.
CVE-2016-3181: Closed upstream as duplicate of CVE-2016-3182 bug report (I am
confused about what to do for this).
CVE-2016-3182: Seems already patched.
CVE-2016-3183: Some changes are already present in accordance to the upstream
patch, however in the majority of cases the file is so different to the
upstream one that I am unable to figure what to put where. I am also concerned
that as they are so different that perhaps the changes would not be compatible
with it.
CVE-2016-4796: Seems already patched.
CVE-2016-4797: Seems already patched.
CVE-2016-7445: Unable to view patch.
CVE-2016-7163: Successfully patched.
CVE-2016-8332: Successfully patched.

I will now attach the debdiffs for Yakkety and Xenial with those two
patches patched. I have never done a debdiff for CVE related fixes
before so I hope that I have done everything correctly. I assume that
you will let me know if I have not so that I can fix any issues.

+
+ Original report:
+
+ A security vulnerability was recently disclosed in OpenJPEG and assigned
  the CVE number of CVE-2016-8332.

The vulnerability is described here (http://www.zdnet.com/article
  /openjpeg-zero-day-flaw-leads-to-remote-code-execution/):

  "
Cisco Talos researchers have uncovered a severe zero-day flaw in the OpenJPEG
JPEG 2000 codec which could lead to remote code execution on compromised
systems.

On Friday, researchers from Cisco revealed the existence of the zero-day
flaw in the JPEG 2000 image file format parser implemented in OpenJPEG
library. The out-of-bounds vulnerability, assigned as CVE-2016-8332,
could allow an out-of-bound heap write to occur resulting in heap
  corruption and arbitrary code execution.

OpenJPEG is an open-source JPEG 2000 codec. Written in C, the software
was created to promote JPEG 2000, an image compression standard which is
in popular use and is often used for tasks including embedding images
within PDF documents through software including Poppler, MuPDF and
  Pdfium.

The bug, assigned a CVSS score of 7.5, was caused by errors in parsing
mcc records in the jpeg2000 file, resulting in "an erroneous read and
write of adjacent heap area memory." If manipulated, these errors can
lead to heap metadata process memory corruption.

In a security advisory, the team said the security vulnerability can be
exploited by attackers if victims open specifically crafted, malicious
JPEG 2000 images. For example, if this content was within a phishing
email or hosted on legitimate services such as Google Drive or Dropbox,
once downloaded to their system, the path is created for attackers to
  execute code remotely.

The vulnerability was discovered by Aleksander Nikolic from the Cisco
Talos security team in OpenJpeg openjp2 version 2.1.1.

Cisco Talos disclosed the vulnerability to affected vendors on 26 July,
granting them time to prepare patches to fix the problem before public release.
  "

I am filing this report as a fix for the issue doesn't seem to have yet
been backported in and given the importance of the issue and the ease in
exploiting it, it would be good if this is done soon.

This is the fix on GitHub:

I have also found a similar behaviour after unlocking the desktop or
after a user switch with return to the original user.4.4.0-38-generic

I am still using Trusty, but my kernel has been upgraded to
4.4.0-38-generic.
