[Bug 1625782] Re: [needs-packaging] adwaita-icon-theme and adwaita-icon-theme-full not available in Trusty

2016-10-23 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS uses GNOME 3.10. adwaita-icon-theme was not introduced
until GNOME 3.14. Before that point, the theme was named gnome-icon-
theme. Therefore, I recommend you install gnome-icon-theme-full.

Or you could opt in to the Windows Insider Program. With build 14936 and
higher, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is used for new Bash on Ubuntu on Windows
installs. I believe you need to opt in to the Fast Ring currently for
that but after installing the latest build, you can choose the Slow Ring
if you don't want frequent updates.

[Bug 1628198] Re: No communcation with graphics card

2016-10-23 Thread madbiologist
It looks like you have upgraded from an older version of Ubuntu and were
using the proprietary NVidia driver on that older version. Is this
correct? If so, it looks like the proprietary NVidia driver was not
configured/upgraded correctly during the Ubuntu upgrade. Try installing
the proprietary NVidia driver packages again or perform a fresh Ubuntu
install. The proprietary NVidia driver packages are nvidia-340 and
nvidia-340-updates.

[Bug 1570653] Re: 4K Monitor not detected properly

2016-10-23 Thread madbiologist
Goldstar is the old name of the LG corporation.

The problem is logged in your dmesg.txt:

[ 10.609475] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* clock recovery
reached max voltage
[ 10.609494] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* clock recovery failed

This probably also causes the later:

[ 46.014534] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* channel eq failed: 5
tries
[ 46.014557] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* channel eq failed

Does this issue still occur with the latest Xenial 4.4.0-45.66 kernel?

2016-10-23 Thread Samuel Henrique
Hi, I'm the new bwm-ng Debian maintainer and i'm preparing the packaging

Could this new release 0.6.1 enter Xenial? If not, what can i do to fix
this on Xenial? As Yaketty will sync from Debian Unstable and fix the
bug.

[Bug 587739] Re: CVE-2009-2947 fix not applied

2016-10-23 Thread Olly Betts
The Ubuntu releases with vulnerable versions are all EOL, so making this
bug public and closing.

I find the lack of actual security support for the majority of packages
in Ubuntu rather disturbing - I don't run Ubuntu myself currently so
providing a tested debdiff isn't easy, but I did provide links to the
patches which we applied in Debian, so the work required on the Ubuntu
side would not have been great.

[Bug 1546373] Re: Please update to 1.11

2016-10-23 Thread Matteo Cypriani
taglib 1.11.1 has just be released, and fixes an ABI breakage, cf.
https://bugs.debian.org/839767
I plan on uploading it in sid this week, and I would recommend that you wait
for this version to sync in Ubuntu.

(And indeed, qmmp 1.1 should not have been packaged without taglib >=
1.10. qmmp 1.1.4 is in sid now and works fine with taglib 1.11.)

[Bug 1636049] [NEW] apt-daily timer should run after networking is available

Public bug reported:

The apt-daily service should have a dependency to run after networking
is available. On some startups, especially after the host has not been
running for a while, the apt-daily timer triggers before the network-
online target. This causes apt-get to hang forever, and it cannot be run
again without killing the existing processes.

[Bug 1546373] Re: Please update to 1.11

2016-10-23 Thread Simon Quigley
It seems that this package can be cleanly synced from Debian.

I checked out the Ubuntu delta, and it seems it's just a patch that has
been applied upstream and is no longer needed when 0.11 is applied. Same
with the other patch that is in there.

So someone just has to sync from Debian manually.

[Bug 1635177] Re: mfd: intel-lpss: Add default I2C device properties for Apollo Lake

2016-10-23 Thread Ying-Chun Liu
** Description changed:

 We need this patch for all Apollo Lake platforms for enabling the touchpad.
 This patch was cherry-picked from c50cdd62dda3f885c1e6ca8b3d5a0851c911ec54.
And later backported to 4.4 kernel.
 It is because for Apollo Lake, the default freq/falling-time is incorrect. So
it makes the i2c acts weird.

 Please consider SRU this commit.

 Impact:
- All touchpad on Apollo Lake work unstable on i2c mode. PS/2 mode doesn't
affected.
-
+ All touchpad on Apollo Lake work unstable on i2c mode. Sometimes it will

+ fallback to PS/2 mode and lost some functionality.

 Fix:
- touchpad works good on i2c mode.
+   touchpad works good on i2c mode.

 Tested:
- The patch is tested on many Dell ApolloLake laptops and works good.
+   The patch is tested on many Dell ApolloLake laptops and works good.

I have since resolved this by setting up LAN domain via router's
Dnsmasq.

[Bug 1280300] Re: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown

2016-10-23 Thread Mike Jones
Below is a workaround I use.

*
#!/bin/sh
viewnior --fullscreen '/home/user_name/Images/My solid color image which
obscures my desktop.png' && sleep 2 && dbus-send --system --print-reply
--dest=org.freedesktop.login1 /org/freedesktop/login1
"org.freedesktop.login1.Manager.Suspend" boolean:true && i3lock -i
'/home/user_name/Images/My image I like to look at when my computer wakes
up.png' -p default -n
*

I lock my screen with a keyboard shortcut I created in Xubuntu which I
associated with the above script.

After my computer wakes up I need to exit Viewnior (the image viewer I
am using) so that the the file called, "My solid color image which
obscures my desktop.png" disappears.

I suppose the extra step would not be necessary if someone with some
technical knowledge would explain how to cause i3lock to exit the image
viewer after the computer wakes up.

I use "viewnior --fullscreen" instead of "viewnior -f" because the later
didn't seem to work in a terminal. I suppose this was a result of my
using a French language terminal.

Also, if you need to resize your image because you want it to appear
centered on the screen, there's no need to install GIMP or any other
draw or paint application.

I used Google Drawings to resize "My solid color image which obscures my
desktop.png" to match my screen size which is 1366 x 768 pixels. I went
to File–>Page configuration–>Customize and typed 1366 then 768 and
chose pixels.

Then I downloaded "My solid color image which obscures my desktop.png"
to my local drive.

I suppose if the developer(s) of this app were to a detailed explanation
of the abovein a message, say the first five times a new image were used
in i3lock, it would help new users quickly and easily lock their screen
securely and ensure their images were centered on the screen.

I don't now why this isn't working automatically. As an interim
workaround, you could try using the xrandr --newmode command followed by
the xrandr --addmode command. See xrandr --help for the parameters for
those commands.

I updated kernel to upstream 4.8.1-040801-generic and seems more
stable now. As I don't have windows any more, updating the bios will
be painful.

I have been running this kernel for a week now a no more hangs such
the ones I reported.

[Bug 1636034] [NEW] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs

2016-10-23 Thread Gil Tygart Sr
Public bug reported:

Got kernel panic at boot and could not reach grub using shift. Found Bug
#1547559, saw this comment by Jason Straight.

"Stumbled across this today while searching for a fix for a PC running
16.04 that this is happening on. I don't understand why, but editing
/etc/default/grub to uncomment the line for graphical terminal fixed it.
What that has to do with mounting root I don't know, but that was
certainly the fix."

"Uncommenting #GRUB_TERMINAL=console fixed it."

Yes, it does. Not sure if this is related or not so new bug.

[Bug 1626436] Re: [4.8 regression] boot has become very slow

2016-10-23 Thread Florian W.
Thanks Joseph! I'm seeing the same effect described by Martin.
Boot+lightdm+loading Unity 7 is not as fast as it used to be in 16.04.

I need to compare timings (4.8 patched vs 4.8 vs 4.4) tomorrow to make
sure, but I also feel like it's a little faster now with the patches
applied.

The number of kworker processes after boot has reduced drastically using
the patched kernel, it's a sane number now (~30), not 1004 like when
using the unpatched 4.8 kernel.

[Bug 1636033] [NEW] Graphics driver setback to Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256 bits)

2016-10-23 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

I've been experiencing brightness control issues and I ended up "upgrading" my
graphics driver through Intel Graphics Update Tool for Linux
https://01.org/linuxgraphics. Running their application setback my graphics
driver (previously Intel Ivybridge) to Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256
bits). I've tried several solutions I found on askubuntu and other forums, but
nothing seems to work. Fortunately I stumbled upon your xdiagnose tool and
tried running it. It seems my system is not using hardware acceleration.
I'll be happy to share any additional information you might need for solving
this. I'm including some of my commands from bash_history in a file.
I'm running Ubuntu LTS 16.04. Output to $ apt-cache policy xorg:

[Bug 1597863] Re: MariaDB install never asks for default root password

2016-10-23 Thread David Favor
This behavior breaks automated tools where --defaults-
file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf should provide valid credentials.

Easy way to restore /etc/mysql/debian.cnf to be functional again...

Instructions relate to Yakkety/MariaDB + likely work with Xenial + MySQL
too.

1) First verify root can actually do anything from root, as sometimes
this is broken.

lxd: yakkety # mysql -uroot -p' ' -e 'SHOW DATABASES'
++
Database
++
information_schema
mysql
performance_schema

2) Change root password to known value

 lxd: yakkety # mysql -uroot -p' '
 use mysql;
 update user set password=PASSWORD("NEWPASSWORD") where User='root';
 update user set plugin="mysql_native_password";

3) Change password entries in /etc/mysql/debian.cnf from empty to
NEWPASSWORD + all should be well.

4) Test...

lxd: yakkety # mysql --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf -e 'SHOW DATABASES'
++
Database
++
information_schema
mysql
performance_schema
++

[Bug 1577172] Re: xenial python-support doesn't install

2016-10-23 Thread Ken Howe
This is a problem I encountered when installing
https://folding.stanford.edu/releases/public/release/fahcontrol/debian-
testing-64bit/v7.4/fahcontrol_7.4.4-1_all.deb

The problem still exists in yakkety yak.

So the problem is with the dependencies in the deb file?

[Bug 1594596] Re: [needs packaging] arc-firefox-theme

2016-10-23 Thread fossfreedom
Hi,
 I have uploaded the latest upstream build into our zesty proposed archive.
Please can this be considered for inclusion?

** Description changed:

 As part of applying for official status for "Ubuntu Budgie", the
 technical board has requested that the team add our packages to the
 Ubuntu repos (universe).

- "Ubuntu Budgie" will initially consist of eight 16.10 packages listed
- here in the PPA description
+ "Ubuntu Budgie" will initially consist of eight 17.04 packages - the
+ remaining packages that are not already in the zesty archive are listed
+ here in the PPA description.

 arc-firefox-theme is a key upstream package that forms the visual look
 of Ubuntu Budgie. We intend to support this package as Ubuntu only.
 Upstream updates its source following the firefox release cycle.

 We intend to update during the development cycle as per upstream.
 Towards the end of the development cycle we will add a patch to ensure
 the update of the package during the yakkety release is not needed. Any
 further updates will follow standard patch update release mechanism
