[Bug 1640805] Re: SSSD authentication fails after upgrade to 1.11.8-0ubuntu0.2
** Description changed: - During the first half of September, the Ubuntu sssd package has been - updated from 1.11.5-1ubuntu3 to 1.11.8-0ubuntu0.2. We use sssd for - authentication on a few dev servers and all our Ubuntu workstations. - After the first systems began upgrading we noticed people are no longer - able to login. Using the ui you're simply redirected to the login - screen. With ssh the connection is closed right away: + [Impact] + + * sssd authentication fails if only allow rules are used and +simple_allow_groups is set but group verification fails. + + * That is a regression to the status before the last SRU update. + + * The fix is a backport of the upstream fix for +https://fedorahosted.org/sssd/ticket/2519 + + [Test Case] + + * Set up sssd (can be quite complex) with only allow rules and +simple_allow_rules config being set. + + * Then authenticate a user/group combo where the group verification + fails + + * This should succeed, but does no more since last update + + [Regression Potential] + + * Since this is a backport of a single fix, but lacks the other changes +that got upstream in-between there is the chance we missed in +code-review that there is more context needed to be backported that +could now cause other authentication issues. + + [Other Info] + + * Setup is so complex we likely have to rely on the reporter for +verification. + + * Reporter tested with various config options for his issue - it would be +kind if he could do so as well for the proposed verification. + + --- + + + During the first half of September, the Ubuntu sssd package has been updated from 1.11.5-1ubuntu3 to 1.11.8-0ubuntu0.2. It seems the problem is directly related to the fact that sssd cannot resolve the name of a few groups. The users are part of different mailing lists which we don't want listed on our Linux pcs. (Wed Nov 9 09:33:10 2016) [sssd[be[ads.domain.com]]] [simple_resolve_group_done] (0x0040): Refresh failed (Wed Nov 9 09:33:10 2016) [sssd[be[ads.domain.com]]] [simple_check_get_groups_next] (0x0040): Could not resolve name of group with GID 2099314 (Wed Nov 9 09:33:10 2016) [sssd[be[ads.domain.com]]] [simple_access_check_done] (0x0040): Could not collect groups of user username I also noticed this is directly related to the simple_allow_groups module that we use to allow login for specific groups. Here's what I have tried and confirmed it fixes the issue: 1. comment out the line "simple_allow_groups = ", restart sssd => authentication works 2. change the "ldap_group_search_base" to include all un-resolvable groups, restart sssd => authentication works. For the sake of testing, I used the sssd/updates ppa to install version 1.12.5-1~trusty1 of the sssd. I can confirm in this version everything works as expected. So basically: broken: 1.11.8-0ubuntu0.2 good: 1.11.5-1ubuntu3 good: 1.12.5-1~trusty1 I looked at the upstream merges Ubuntu has done for 1.11.8, there are around 5-6 changes but I cannot figure out which one introduced the error

[Bug 1641499] [NEW] debugging pydb prevents ddd from closing
Public bug reported: 1) Run ddd to debug pydb 2) Attempt to leave ddd by clicking on 'x'. 3) This fails(you can quit any time, but you can 'never' leave), but it seems to leave the debugged pydb program. This is ok if you run only one pydb deep. But if you're trying to debug pydb...having what happens to ddd happen to the bottom level pydb doesn't seem to be a very good thing. For the moment, this is a difference between ddd running on pydb and virtually any other program, and it's behaviour that you would probably not expect. I would argue this is a (minor) bug, since it is not so consistent with what you would expect with other programs, in that there does not appear to be enough of a boundary between the debugging environment and the debugged environment. Then I entered the "Thunar" terminal, so I can analyze the error exit line if it reports anything. The error that gave, was this of the summary whose gave in my language, which is the Portuguese, but I am translating into English, which is the native language of the developers and easier interpretation. The error he gives is this one "Targeting failure (recorded core image)" when I see it in Terminal. Finally I figured out the error seems happened when dealing with fuse, so I uninstalled fuse and fuse again, it then update all the initrm packages of each kernel, then I am able to remove old kernels. I think this is caused that once I installed libfuse from source code, it may changed the system configuration. ** Changed in: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1582979 Title: package linux-image-3.16.0-71-generic 3.16.0-71.92~14.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/initramfs-tools exited with return code 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1582979/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1558768] Re: gvfsd-trash causing high CPU-load when try to empty trash with thousands of files
This persists - big nuisance. 1. Create an empty folder 2. Execute "touch bspl{0001..7000}.c" (simply crates 7000 empty files) 3. Move the files to trash The system consumed 8GB RAM and 8GB SWAP - heavy usage of CPU - you can monitor with top If I am to wait a few min it will resolve and both RAM and SWAP would go down to 1.5GB If I want to get out of it somehow - I can killall gvfsd-trash and killall nautilus Then go to ~/.local/share/Trash/files$ and empty the content and also go to ~/.local/share/Trash/info$ and empty the content I use Darktable (beautiful RAW image manipulation program). Often I have to delete thousands of files that take a few GB of space. Having a trash is desirable feature as it gives safety net for few days. However this behaviour (consuming all the resources of the system) is more than an inconvenience - it makes the trash unusable. If somebody knows how to workaround this please advise. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1558768 Title: gvfsd-trash causing high CPU-load when try to empty trash with thousands of files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1558768/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1641468] [NEW] systemd-resolve: fallback from resolve causes lookup of local network hosts to fail
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Ubuntu 16.10 from 16.04, DNS resolution of hosts on my local network fails. The hosts line in /etc/nsswitch.conf is: hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve [!UNAVAIL=return] dns mdns4 If I change it to: hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 I can resolve hosts on my local network. Appending .local to the hostname also allows DNS resolution since systemd-resolve returns a different error for that case. Ex: systemd-resolve rt-ac66u rt-ac66u: resolve call failed: All attempts to contact name servers or networks failed systemd-resolve rt-ac66u.local rt-ac66u.local: resolve call failed: No appropriate name servers or networks for name found "dig rt-ac66u" returns the correct ip. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641468 Title: systemd-resolve: fallback from resolve causes lookup of local network hosts to fail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1641468/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1641467] [NEW] Mouse flickering and disappearing near the top of screen
Public bug reported: So I'm not sure this is an xorg bug, I couldn't figure out what xorg is. But I recently upgraded to ubuntu 16.10 and started seeing this bug where my mouse will flicker and disappear when near the top of the screen. It still works clicking-wise. It also seems to be especially severe when using Google Chrome, where it completely disappears and flickers the entire time while mousing over the menu uptions (i.e the close button, the tabs etc...). However recently I noticed this also happens when google chrome is off, though it flickers much less.
