[Bug 1451398] Re: too few information on Authentication Dialog
My bank uses double identification (website + mobile app). When the mobile app asks for a pin to confirm a payment, it displays the payment information. So I know that the confirmation request comes from the payment I just initiated, and that it's not a random window that pops up from nowhere. I think the Authentication Dialog should work the same way, displaying information from the originating application, something like: The application "foo bar" is requesting authentication for "doing this and that". For example: == Authentication request The application "Software Update" is requesting authentication for "installing gnome-maps, gnome-photos, gnome-foo, gnome-bar" Please enter... [Bug 1642966] Re: package cups-daemon 2.1.3-4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
> In CUPS everything is OK and as intended. No -- as above, the maintainer scripts need to stop cups.{socket, path} first before stopping cups.service. Also, as it seems you can entirely drop that .path unit as it's fairly useless -- we don't start cups on demand, but it always starts on boot (in a default install). It would of course be nice to fix that (as I suggested in the upstream bug). > And there is also another bug in systemd: The *.path file as it comes with CUPS should always start CUPS (if it is not already running) if there is the keepalive file, not only if the keepalive file is newly created. It does -- that's precisely what happens here: The path unit restarts cups after the maintainer scripts stop it, and that's the core of this bug. So if anything, you want it to be less aggressive, not more :-) > cups-browsed.service contains "After=cups.service avahi- daemon.service" in its [Unit] section. Is this enough to make cups- browsed being shut down before the shutdown of CUPS is done? [Bug 1647168] Re: /dev/ashmem and /dev/binder not usable inside confinement
** Description changed: I have a snap which starts an entire Android system in a LXC container similar to how we do it on Ubuntu Touch. The LXC container itself works fine in devmode, confinement is not yet considered and left completely aside. The Android system needs access to the two nodes /dev/ashmem and /dev/binder from the host system. They are both available in the snap execution environment and are bind mounted into the LXC container environment. Inside the container both nodes are accessible and can be used. However certain mmap calls to memory allocated via /dev/ashmem fail with a permission denied error and also binder IPC calls fail. These problems are not occurring when the LXC container is started outside of the snap execution environment, so it can be already ruled out as a problem here. The container configuration is also the same. The problem can be fixed by executing the container management process via $ aa-exec -p unconfined -- $SNAP/bin/container-manager which then uses liblxc to start the container. I don't really understand why this is required as AppArmor shouldn't prevent any use of /dev/ashmem or /dev/binder when the snap is installed with --devmode and dmesg doesn't show any denials, just that it allows all calls. + This is with snap-confine 1.0.43 on Ubuntu 16.04 + I am opening this bug here to start tracking the problem and get some more visibility and thoughts from others. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647168 Title: /dev/ashmem and /dev/binder not usable inside confinement To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snap-confine/+bug/1647168/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1647260] [NEW] virtualbox lies about available processors on non-hyperthreaded processors
Public bug reported: I consider this bug extremely insidious as it can ruin the performance of linux while virtualbox is running. While setting up Oracle's virtualbox-5.1 on my MacPro 3,1 under Ubuntu 16.10, I was puzzled by the extremely bad system performance that I was seeing. Finally I realized that the Processor tab in virtualbox was showing the total available cores on my machine as 16 and the green bar showing the safe zone was extended to 8 cores. Thus any user on an older machine like mine (which has dual quad-core Harpertown processors) will be told to use twice the recommended number of cores. Once I reduced the cores used from 8 to 4, the system performance dramatically improved. This should be trivial to fix as virtualbox should just check /proc/cpuinfo for the correct values and stop assuming hyperthreading is universally available. I have filed this upstream with Oracle as https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/16265. ** Affects: virtualbox Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: libuser (Ubuntu) => virtualbox -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647260 Title: virtualbox lies about available processors on non-hyperthreaded processors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/virtualbox/+bug/1647260/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Looking into /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu-64/grubx64.efi of the 2nd installation with a hex editor I find the string EFI/ubuntu instead EFI/ubuntu-64. ** Affects: grub2-signed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: multiboot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: grub2-signed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647235 Title: Wrong /boot/grub/grub.cfg processed after change of GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/+bug/1647235/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1623856] Re: Scrolled Windows in update-manager are too small to read
I don't know if it is a regression, or just the fix not totally fixing the problem... At least some of the time, I get very few lines of download progress, even when maximized, and even if maximized, the install details don't seem to occupy more than 1/2 the possible height. At least once, I had just the one (partial) line for download detail. If I recall correctly, one CANNOT maximize until "details" is clicked upon, I think (I cannot verify any of this until the next time that there are multiple packages to update) that if I wait to long to hit "details" and "maximize" that I get VERY few lines of install detail. I STILL wish there were a way to config this to ALWAYS SHOW DETAILS and ALWAYS maximise the download/install window. --- scott@scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ uname -a Linux scott-ASUS-M2N68-AM-PLUS 4.8.0-29-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 30 19:13:21 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Lubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Update-manager 1:16.10.8 aptdaemon 1.1.1+bzr982-0ubuntu16.16.10.1~yakkety1.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1623856 Title: Scrolled Windows in update-manager are too small to read To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aptdaemon/+bug/1623856/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This problem still exists in my apt-get-upgrad'ed copy of yakkety and plagues me on my Lenovo E560 with up-to-date (from Lenovo's point of view) firmware. Is there a step-by-step for the workaround (patching, building and replacing MokManager.efi's)? [Bug 1551690] Re: Missing dependency
Currently on Ubuntu 17.04 dev things have changed a bit. There seem to be 3 packages mainly responsible as the entry point: lxde-core, lxde- common and openbox-lxde-session. lxde-common claims to have a set of configuration files for pcmanfm and lxpanel but these packages are only in its "Recommends" field which looks broken to me as lxde-common would not be needed if you also don't install pcmanfm and/or lxpanel. lxde- core claims to be a metapackage and depends amongst others on pcmanfm and lxpanel and recommends lxde-common. Maybe its pcmanfm and lxpanel dependencies should be removed and added to lxde-common and the lxde- common recommendation should get a dependency. This way installing only openbox-lxde-session should pull in all required dependencies for a common minimal LXDE environment. But this is just a suggestion and maybe it can be enhanced a bit or this can be enhanced in a completely different way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551690 Title: Missing dependency To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxde-common/+bug/1551690/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1647225] [NEW] Attempting to install a snap that requires devmode without passing --devmode results in confusing error
Public bug reported: It appears that when a requesting to install a snap that requires devmode without passing --devmode that the snap does not exist, rather than that installing the snap requires passing --devmode. [Bug 1647158] Re: chart cpu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647158 Title: chart cpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1647158/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1647222] [NEW] [MIR] xdelta3
Public bug reported: MIR for xdelta3 This is a request to include the xdelta3 package in Ubuntu main. See below for point-for-point discussion of the items listed at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuMainInclusionRequirements [Availability] Ubuntu Zesty contains xdelta 3.0.11-dfsg-1 in universe. [Rationale] xdelta3 is required for the 'download delta' feature in snapd. This allows users to save a considerable amount of bandwidth when downloading updates for installed snap packages. The code has all landed in snapd behind a feature flag, but cannot be turned on by default until xdelta3 is in main, so snapd can depend on xdelta3. [Security] There was one CVE files against xdelta3 that I could find: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-9765 The xdelta3 package installs a single binary (/usr/bin/xdelta3) which is not suid or sgid. [Quality assurance] - The xdelta3 package requires no configuration after installation. - As far as I can tell, the package asks no debconf questions of any priority. - There are 90 open issues in the upstream bugtracker: https://github.com/jmacd/xdelta/issues - I've scanned the issue list, and while a few issues may impact Ubuntu users using xdelta3, none of them seem serious enough to warrant exclusion from main in my opinion (but what do I know - that's for someone else to determine). - The debian bug tracker contains security bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=814067 However this is fixed in the upstream release that's in zesty, and I can see a distropatch in the version that's in Xenial (I'm assuming it's been fixed in yakkety as well). - The debian package is maintained by 'A Mennucc1', see: https://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xdelta3.html - The xdelta3 packages does not require any exotic hardware. - I'm honestly not sure if the upstream test suite is run during the package build. I see no explicit test runs in debian/rules, but there is a 'check' make target, so perhaps that's invoked by default? - The package contains a debain/watch file. [UI Standards] The xdelta3 package ships command line utilities, so I think it's except from the requirements of this section. [Dependencies] The two dependencies of xdelta3 (libc6 and liblzma5) are both already in main. [Standards Compliance] Since xdelta3 is already in debian, I can only assume that it conforms to the related standards. [Maintenance] I think xdelta3 is relatively stable software, and the debian maintenance seems adequate to me to minimise the amount of work we need to do to keep this package in main. [Background Information] The xdelta3 package description contains a basic useful description of the purpose of the package. The motivation behind this MIR is described in the 'rationale' section of this bug report. ** Affects: xdelta3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647222 Title: [MIR] xdelta3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdelta3/+bug/1647222/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1647217] [NEW] Nautilus “Open with …” context menu gone on upgrade to yakkety
Public bug reported: Release:16.10 Package:nautilus, 1:3.20.3-1ubuntu3.1 Expected behaviour: 1. Open Files 2. Right-click on icon, move to "Open with …", and pick suitable app from an immediate list 3. File opens in selected application. This was standard behaviour on 16.04, and is expected behaviour from Windows and Mac OS. Actual behaviour: 1. Open Files 2. Right-click on icon, note lack of "Open with …" option, and select "Open With Other Application" 3. "Select Application" window opens instead of immediate list. Window contains long list 4. Scroll down list until application appears, select it, and file opens in selected application. This is a usability regression. [Bug 1642966] Re: package cups-daemon 2.1.3-4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
pitti, first, in the shutdown process of CUPS cups.path has to be deactivated first, so that the presence of the keepalive file of CUPS does not cause an immediate restart. After that, the other unit files of CUPS need to get deactivated to complete the shutdown. Concerning cups-browsed (which can, while running, trigger CUPS via socket), The unit file /lib/systemd/system/cups-browsed.service contains After=cups.service avahi-daemon.service in its [Unit] section. Is this enough to make cups-browsed being shut down before the shutdown of CUPS is done? Discussed the reason why CUOS has the keepalive file in the upstream bug report https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/4930 In CUPS everything is OK and as intended. The bug seems to be in systemd. And there is also another bug in systemd: The *.path file as it comes with CUPS should always start CUPS (if it is not already running) if there is the keepalive file, not only if the keepalive file is newly created. ** Changed in: init-system-helpers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1642966 Title: package cups-daemon 2.1.3-4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1642966/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
