[Bug 1650846] [NEW] shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument (0.4.4)

2016-12-17 Thread Austin English
Public bug reported:

I reported this upstream [1], but there's been a release since then, and
the author hasn't seen the issue either.

When I run shellcheck on my upstream project under Travis-CI, I see several
occurrences of:
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument
shellcheck: unable to decommit memory: Invalid argument

>From upstream:
"I haven't seen this error before. From what I can tell from GHC issues 12865
and 12495, it may happen when GHC/shellcheck is built on a newer system but
runs on one with an older kernel."

Note that this does NOT occur on OS X with 0.4.5, so either it's an
issue in the older version (and the package needs an update), or it's a
Ubuntu specific build issue.

To reproduce:
* ensure you have shellcheck-0.4.4-4 installed
* wget
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks
* shellcheck winetricks

[Bug 1650835] [NEW] wifi association times out while typing password

2016-12-17 Thread wastrel
Public bug reported:

Visiting inlaws for the holidays.

The wifi password is a long numeric string, which takes a long time to
type.

I typed it several times and failed to connect. I verified it and tried
again and again. Finally typed it into text file, copied and pasted, it
connected.

I suspect the connection was timing out or something while I typed the
stupid long numeric password.

What I expected to happen:

type password, click connect, get connection, or some useful error. user
happy.

What actually happened:

type password, click connect, dialog disappears and nothing else
happens. user confused and unhappy.

It shouldn't silently fail because I'm taking a long time to type.

thanks, love you! <3

[Bug 1641475] Re: Why can't I scroll while selecting a text in LibreOffice

2016-12-17 Thread Irishbandit
Does not work

Version: 5.2.4.1
Build ID: 1:5.2.4~rc1-0ubuntu1~yakkety1
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.9; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk3;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: single
Does not work

Works
But switching to gtk2 works as expected.

Version: 5.2.4.1
Build ID: 1:5.2.4~rc1-0ubuntu1~yakkety1
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.9; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk2;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: single

This is on Cinnamon 3.2.6 so I just have to remember to install libreoffice-gtk2
instead of libreoffice-gtk3

In the case of my Acer Aspire the issue was caused by incorrect settings

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2016-12-17 Thread Paul Kellner
Same problem. Intermittent, but for the last few days doesn't work. I
have attached the output of numerous cli commands to help
troubleshooting. When I choose PTP mode instead of MTP mode Shotwell
fires up and can receive photos and videos.

One thought is that USB cables are notorious for wearing out on Android
mobile phones. I have had problems because the high charging currents
and cheap cables don't work well together. When new the connectors fit
up well but as time goes by they get looser and looser. Unfortunately
cheap cables are what are commonly available.

[Bug 1650824] [NEW] Installation crashes if done with a particular partitioning scheme

2016-12-17 Thread Lino Barreca
Public bug reported:

This bug follows bug 1650782.
Media has been verified, no errors.
In the other bug the installer crashed after I manually partitioned the disk in
a particular way through the setup program.
To try to workaround it instead of Install Ubuntu I selected Try Ubuntu.
Launched the setup from the icon and at the "how to install" I choose again
"custom partitioning".
Created a standard "boot" partition from there and assigned to mountpoint /boot.

Then opened a terminal and created a luks partition an LVM volume inside
it and three logical volumes

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo -i
root@ubuntu:~# pvcreate /dev/mapper/sdc7_crypt
  Physical volume "/dev/mapper/sdc7_crypt" successfully created
root@ubuntu:~# vgcreate lvm /dev/mapper/sdc7_crypt
  Volume group "lvm" successfully created
root@ubuntu:~# lvcreate -L 10G lvm -n swap
  Logical volume "swap" created.
root@ubuntu:~# lvcreate -L 15G lvm -n root
  Logical volume "root" created.
root@ubuntu:~# lvcreate -l 100%FREE lvm -n home
  Logical volume "home" created.
root@ubuntu:~# mkfs.ext4 /dev/mapper/lvm-root

Went back to the setup program (which was opened at the custom partitioning
page) I pushed back and next again (to open the custom partitioning page again).
In that page I could see the new volumes and assigned the mount points from
there for home and root.
Then I clicked next and the setup finished copying files. Before, when trying
to do the same partitioning within the setup, it crashed immediately after
clicking on install (and that was already reported in bug 1650782)

[Bug 1589379] Re: System frozen after resume, on Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.4.0-22

2016-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
bastien, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel
4.7-rc6 to 4.9-rc6 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this good commit has been
identified, it may be reviewed for backporting. Could you please do this
following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of
bisecting.

It is most helpful that after the fix commit (not kernel version) has
been identified, you then mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1650822] [NEW] Failed while trying Install onto 8, 1 Apple Macbook Pro

2016-12-17 Thread TBerk
Public bug reported:

It is likely a problem with the Partition Type (MSDOS) rather than GPT (for use
with EUFI). I am retrying the Install of Ubuntu Studio 16.10, from a LiveUSB
drive, and using a hardwired Internet connection, after having wiped the
Macbook's Hard Drive and created a new mapping w/ GPT.

Ultimately I shall try to create a dual boot situation with MacOS and
Ubuntu Studio.

[Bug 1547151] Re: 10ec:8168 r8169 won't connect

2016-12-17 Thread Luca Mastromatteo
Sorry for the late reply, but I reported the bug to the upstream developers
(Hau, from realtek.com) and I helped them to solve the problem. Then, they
finally gave me a beta debug driver, after some tests, which seems to solve the
problem.
I don't know if those patches are currently committed into the kernel driver. I
changed my PC months ago.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

Newer program versions won't land in older releases, that's part of
Ubuntu's SRU-Policy.

THIS IS A MAJOR BUG at least for gnome 16.10 and I think 16.04 too.

This is a serious bug, please address. It's been noted in conversations
for years. Just get rid of it please, what's the point? The file name is
right there and the line selected is highlighted in orange, who needs a
notification that makes the last file in the folder impossible to click?
Thanks.

[Bug 1624339] Re: Elantech v4 trackpad no longer working after resuming for hibernate

2016-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

This is a Gigabyte AERO 14 laptop (http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products
  /product-page.aspx?pid=5902#kf)

When laptop goes into hibernate mode, the trackpad will no longer work.
Rebooting will not make the trackpad work again.
The only work around I've found so far is to reboot into windows and then
reboot into ubuntu.

It is similar to bug 1490130; however here it's with hibernating and can't be
recovered with rebooting (additionally, the kernel patch provided there doesn't
work)
  Suspend works just fine.

[Bug 1615361] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop

2016-12-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mihail A. Smolnikov, to keep this relevant to upstream, one would want
check for, and test the latest mainline kernel (now 4.9) as it is
released.

Could you please advise?

** Description changed:

Ubuntu 16.04.1 fails to boot on HP Envy 15-ah150sa laptop right after
  the installation.

I tried to install Ubuntu v. 16.04.1 on my HP Envy 15-ah150sa. It
successfully booted from the flash drive with default params (however,
if I tried to edit command line params, for example, to disable acpi or
add nomodeset flag, it fails to boot regardless if I made some changes
  in the command or not).

Installation passes without errors, but during the first boot from hard
drive, right after the GRUB, any of the following happens (absolutely randomly):
  1. Screen starts to blink constantly, boot doesn't proceeds
  2. Screen remains blank (the same background color as grub have) and capslock
starts to turning on and off
  3. Screen remains blank and no more requests to HDD being performing

In any of these three cases, laptop doesn't responds to ctrl-alt-del

  I tried to:
  0. Test memory, HDD and ISO image, install different versions of Ubuntu from
different USB Flash drives.
  1. Update BIOS (now it is of latest version (F.14)) - only after that update
Ubuntu booted from USB Flash drive.
  2. Disable/enable secure boot
  3. Add nomodeset
  4. Add acpi=off
  5. Boot in different modes

Booting in recovery mode results to a lot of "General Protection Fault"
errors.
Booting in upstart mode once was successfull

- Not sure if this info will help, but I also tried to install latest Debian.
It boots, but CPU usage appears to be constantly high. Same issue wasn't found
when ran Ubuntu from USB.

[Bug 1649419] Re: unable to install apps from ubuntu store

2016-12-17 Thread Daniel Frost
Hi Alberto,

it took some playing around, because I have never before used the
phablet-shell. But I did get something out of it in the end. ;-) I had
to copy/paste the content of the terminal, because I could not find the
oa.log file. Well, I did just unplug the phone to stop logging not
knowing any better. Hopefully there is still something useful in there
for you!

I did not get past the point where I had to press "install" in the store. When
I hit that button nothing happend on the phone but text appeared in the
terminal (as attached).
When pressing "install" again, it would only give me that error message wich
you can see at the bottom three times.

Do you think it might be worth trying to delete the UbuntuOne account?

I do hope that does help at least a little bit.
If you need anything else please let me know.
I will try my best and I do not mind learning something new. :-)
