Just a hint to be in the picture, flashplugin-installer (from
multiverse) downloads and installs adobe-flashplugin (from Canonical
partner archive). I guess that means they are the same.

[Bug 1665246] [NEW] System Completely Hangs When Compiling Certain Packages

2017-02-15 Thread spm2011
Public bug reported:

Distributor ID: neon
Description:KDE neon User Edition 5.9
Release:16.04
Codename: xenial
Linux neon 4.4.0-62-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 18 14:10:15 UTC 2017 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Package: gcc
Version: 4:5.3.1-1ubuntu1

Package: make
Version: 4.1-6

To reproduce:
In a live session, download hashcat source - https://github.com/hashcat/hashcat
Requires opencl-headers (install through apt)
Run make in the hashcat-master dir.

Outputs gcc compiler flags, then after about 5 - 10 seconds, the system
completely freezes up. Mouse becomes unusable, audio starts looping if
playing in background. Requires REISUB to reboot if frozen.

Reproduced on two different laptops, and on a Mint 18.1 live session.
Also encountered when trying to compile an Excel import package for
RStudio, so I think this issue probably affects most instances of the
current gcc version under certain conditions.

** Affects: gcc-5 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: xenial

[Bug 1536751] Re: Font/text rendering is irregular and not pixel-aligned on low DPI screens

It might be acceptable if the hinting was higher quality, but I think
that would require caching of whole strings (possibly with kerning)
rather than caching of individual glyphs.

[Bug 1536751] Re: Font/text rendering is irregular and not pixel-aligned on low DPI screens

2017-02-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can now see part of the problem more clearly.

If you look at labels that contain the same letter multiple times like
"Calculator" or "Security & Privacy", then it becomes apparent that the
clarity of that same letter changes depending on where it is in the
word.

Given that Qt caches individual glyphs (discovered in bug 1583088), this
variation in clarity should never happen. Most likely the problem is
Qt's text rendering is failing to place some glyphs at integer x
locations, which is a big deal on regular low DPI displays.

[Bug 1536751] Re: Font/text rendering is irregular and not pixel-aligned on low DPI screens

2017-02-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also the two lower-case u's in "Ubuntu App Test" have particularly
different appearance.

It seems Qt is placing glyphs according to a higher fractional precision
than the resolution of the display, which while technically correct also
creates unacceptable blurring of text at low DPI.

[Bug 1665196] Re: Wifi password must entered and saved from edit connections gui

2017-02-15 Thread warren
I retested to make sure this bug is valid on my hardware. Apparently it
would seem there is a time limit for entering the Wi-Fi password, if the
Wi-Fi password is entered within the time limit the Wi-Fi password is
accepted otherwise password must be entered and saved from the Edit
Connections GUI.

[Bug 1665216] [NEW] dbus-java-bin's CreateInterface utility fails with parser error

2017-02-15 Thread Mark Clarke
Public bug reported:

According to the documentation for the CreateInterface utility of dbus-
java the following command should generate a java source file for the
appropriate interface.

"CreateInterface --session org.freedesktop.Notifications

Instead of getting a generated file I get the error below. (This happens
for any service and any interface that I select, not just the
service/interface given in the example below.)

"[Fatal Error] introspect.dtd:1:3: The markup declarations contained or pointed

[Bug 1662177] Re: tcpdump multiple CVEs

2017-02-15 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for the debdiffs! I'll need a little more info before I seriously
begin sponsoring them. Note that since tcpdump is in main, I'll still
need to do my own QA.

What investigation did you perform to feel comfortable in disabling the
tests that were disabled?

What amount of testing did you perform? In which Ubuntu releases and in
what environment (whether or not in a VM, the CPU architecture, etc.)?

[Bug 892544] Re: Unity slow after resume from suspend

2017-02-15 Thread Samir M
Bug is still present in Ubuntu 16.04 as of:
Linux 4.4.0-59-generic #80-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 6 17:47:47 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

As a note, the solution here fixes the slowdown:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/792605/ubuntu-16-04-lts-too-slow-after-suspend-and-resume

Seems like some problem with resetting the msr register after a suspend. More

2017-02-15 Thread Brian Morton
No problem, just let me know if they need different versioning because
of the potential conflict. I plan to produce one for trusty shortly. At
this point, is the team encouraging CVE fixes for precise? This is not
easy to exploit, so it might not be worth the review/publishing time.

Perhaps this bug should be re-opened. For I have the problem on Linux

and the only command that seems to do the job is:

[Bug 1665205] [NEW] mouse jumps on clickpad drag and drop

2017-02-15 Thread excalibur1491
Public bug reported:

The package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics needs to be updated in the
Ubuntu repositories.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad E460 with a ClickPad. The click pad works perfectly on
Windows10.
On Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS the mouse behaves properly except when drag and dropping
in the following way:

1) Press left button "under" the clickpad with a finger
2) Move another finger across the touchpad.

When I do that, the mouse simply jumps around to the corners of the
screen. It probably can't tell which finger is moving.

But If I do the following it works:

1) Press left *physical* button (this Thinkpad has physical buttons on top of
the clickpad)
2) Move a finger across the touchpad.

So clearly the problem is with the driver of the clickpad.

The solution I found requires installing xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
version 1.9.0 instead of the 1.8.3 that comes by default with Ubuntu.
When installing that version (taken from Debian Stretch repo) it all
worked again. Note that this version is the same that Fedora 25 ships by
default.

When updating to 1.9.0, a bunch of pacakges needed to get new versions
as well. Listed below:

Upgraded the following packages:
libgcrypt20 (1.6.5-2ubuntu0.2) to 1.7.6-1
libinput10 (1.2.3-1ubuntu1) to 1.6.0-1
libwacom-bin (0.18-1) to 0.22-1
libwacom-common (0.18-1) to 0.22-1
libwacom2 (0.18-1) to 0.22-1

Installed the following packages:
libinput-bin (1.6.0-1)
libxcb-util0 (0.3.8-3)
libxfont2 (1:2.0.1-3)
ubuntu-desktop (1.361)
xfonts-100dpi (1:1.0.4+nmu1)
xfonts-75dpi (1:1.0.4+nmu1)
xorg (1:7.7+18)
xserver-xorg (1:7.7+18)
xserver-xorg-core (2:1.19.1-4)
xserver-xorg-input-all (1:7.7+18)
xserver-xorg-input-libinput (0.23.0-2)
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (1.9.0-1+b1)
xserver-xorg-video-all (1:7.7+18)
xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu (1.2.0-1+b1)
xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:7.8.0-1+b1)
xserver-xorg-input-evdev (1:2.10.5-1)
xserver-xorg-video-fbdev (1:0.4.4-1+b5)
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.99.917+git20161206-1)
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (1:1.0.13-1+b1)
xserver-xorg-video-qxl (0.1.4+20161126git4d7160c-1)
xserver-xorg-video-radeon (1:7.8.0-1+b1)
xserver-xorg-video-vesa (1:2.3.4-1+b2)
xserver-xorg-video-vmware (1:13.2.1-1+b1)

It seems the bug is already solved in the package but this package is
not yet available from Ubuntu repositories. Please release it.

[Bug 1665201] [NEW] octave-gui crashed when using its internal editor

2017-02-15 Thread Shuang Song
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 amd64 version. And the Octave-gui package is
installed from offical repo. I can use octave-cli in terminal well, but
when using code editor in octave-gui, only when typing several
characters ( less than 10 charactors), The program freezed and crashed.
I don't what happend.

BTW, when I typing, I saw the auto-complete bar flashed fast and
dispeared. Maybe some problem with display framework? Incompative
library version?

Here is a part of the crash report:

Package: octave 4.0.0-3ubuntu9.1

[Bug 1665190] [NEW] update manager stucks while querying configuration file replacement

2017-02-15 Thread Jerry Kao
Public bug reported:

When Software Updater installs new fglrx driver, the followings files should be
replaced by new ones.
(amdpcsdb.default, atiapfxx.blb, atiapfxx.log, signature, atiapfxx, and control)
A popup window shows with two options: Keep or Replace.
But, no matter which options is selected, there is no response from the popup
window and update manager freeze.
Online update process is blocked by fglrx.

It leads to fglrx update fail and system fail to boot up.

If you run command "apt-get dist-upgrade" to upgrade fglrx, these files can be
replaced successfully.
$ apt-get dist-upgrade
...
Configuration file '/etc/ati/amdpcsdb.default'
Configuration file '/etc/ati/atiapfxx.blb'
Configuration file '/etc/ati/atiapfxx.log'
Configuration file '/etc/ati/signature'
Configuration file '/etc/ati/atiapfxx'
Configuration file '/etc/ati/control'
==> File on system created by you or by a script.
==> File also in package provided by package maintainer.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : start a shell to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** control (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? I

I didn't have dnscache-run installed. When I try to install from the raw
.deb file I got the same error. But the upgrade tool said it completed
successfully except for that error and after rebooting dnscache-run was
no longer problematic and lsb_release shows I'm on 16.04, so I think
everything is fine.

[Bug 1665184] [NEW] Assertion list returned by GET /v2/assertions/type can't be reliably split

2017-02-15 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

GET /v2/assertions returns "a stream of assertions separated by double
newlines", however an assertion uses double newlines as separators,
which means a snapd client can't determine the difference between the
parts of an assertion (either header+signature or
header+body+signature).

For example, the response could be:

OR

In this case the client can't reliably determine if the body1 is a
signature or an assertion body.

[Bug 1665184] Re: Assertion list returned by GET /v2/assertions/type can't be reliably split

2017-02-15 Thread Robert Ancell
The only method I've found is to look for the "type:" header to
determine the start of the assertion. If that's the case, then I'll just
update the documentation to state that.
