[Bug 1622322] Re: Realtek 8153-based ethernet adapter doesn't work

2017-03-01 Thread zwpwjwtz
I can confirm that this problem was not fixed in kernel 4.8-rc8, neither
in 4.9 series.

The situation that made I think it was "fixed" is actually caused by USB
cable quality issue. As I was testing the kernel 4.8-rc8, the inner 4
fibers for USB 3.0 is actually broken, forcing the adapter communicate
with host under USB 2.0 mode.

Once I reweld all fibers, I can see it appears along with "Linux
Foundation 3.0 root hub", and the problem returns.

And I re-test the old ISOs: 14.10 and 15.04 work properly, 15.10 fails.
So apparently some regressions occur between 3.19 and 4.2 series.

There is, however, a workaround: when inserting the USB plug, leave a
part of the plug outside the jack. This will keep the 4 contacts for USB
3.0 disconnected from PC, while 4 other contacts for USB 2.0 unaffected.
But I still hope this could be solved from code level.

[Bug 1667790] Re: PXE Installation Failure - Ubuntu14.04.5

2017-03-01 Thread Ameen Rahman
Hi,

This failure was a result of netcfg segfault seen on the logs.

--8<--->8
Feb 24 06:31:51 netcfg[3724]: DEBUG: Writing wireless options for p4p1
 Feb 24 06:31:51 netcfg[3724]: DEBUG: Success!

--8<--->8

We have root caused a bug in the qede driver that was triggering this.

qede IOCTL implementation returns '0' instead of -EOPNOTSUPP for all IOCTL
requests made by user.
wireless-lib used by netcfg as part of the PXE boot process tries learning
whether our interface is wireless via sending an IOCTL; As we return '0', it
learns we're a wireless interface and does some incorrect configurations.
Later, netcfg would segfault due to broken information.
Fixed qede IOCTL callback to return -EOPNOTSUPP to everything other than the
timesync requests.

Having said that, does netcfg also require a fix to gracefully fail in
this case with a meaningful error message, rather than segfault so that
it's easier to debug such issues.

[Bug 1669254] Re: 16.04 apparmor, aa-logprof and log files

2017-03-01 Thread Seth Arnold
Hi sles; thanks for the bug report.

On systems with auditd installed, the /var/log/audit/audit.log file is
used.

AppArmor's dbus mediation is managed through dbus itself. Its logs would
not go into the kern.log file.

It might be about time to remove /var/log/messages; at least I don't
have it on my last 12.04 LTS precise system, so it hasn't been used in
Ubuntu in a while; but it may still be used on other distributions.

Thanks

[Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu

2017-03-01 Thread Jeff Kowalski
@Sadi Yumuşak (sa-yu) #31:
I had the same problem you documented, and found it was because of a
conflicting pkg-config. In my case, I had one installed in
~/.linuxbrew/bin/pkg-config, which was picked up in my PATH before
/usr/bin/pkg-config. The solution was to temporarily rename the one in my
linuxbrew so that the one in /usr/bin was used.

@J. McDonald (mcdonald-joseph) #34:
You list the commands you've used, but not their output. I suspect that the
output of autogen.sh is similar to what sa-yu experienced in his note. The
specific error you're seeing from make means that the input file that it
expects by default, which is named Makefile, cannot be found. It is the
autogen.sh script which produces that Makefile. Its failure is likely due to a
problem similar to what sa-yu describes.

@Adam Szmigin (smidge) @28: #28
Fine instructions. I confirm that they work on Linux Mint 18.1 x64.
Just for clarity, readers should know that the command "$ cd
~/path/to/my/build/dir" shouldn't be taken literally. Instead, it's shorthand
for a couple commands like
$ mkdir -p ~/build/libimobiledevice
$ cd ~/build/libimobiledevice

[Bug 1590561] Re: webbrowser-app crashes on startup on fresh zesty Unity8: No suitable EGL configs found

2017-03-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
"/sys/devices/pci[0-9]*/**/config r,"
Doesn't that give the browser access to all PCI devices? :)

It's just a graphics device issue so the right device should be:
/dev/dri/*

In theory Unity8 should be automatically assigning these rights to all
GUI apps automatically. Not sure if it does. Certainly Mir won't do this
for you. You may even find yourself sometimes in a situation where
graphics appears to work, but because of missing access to /dev/dri/*
Mesa will fall back to software rendering of OpenGL apps (which works
well enough many people never realise it has happened).

[Bug 1590590] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook

2017-03-01 Thread Khamidulla Inoyatov
I really disappointed by this changes in kernel 4.4.0-64. Before I had
working touchpad(tap as click, two finger scrolling) with stick which
was worked out off box. Thing is it is only possible to change using
Unity Tweak Tool. But now it is completle useless. I disable touchpad
permanantly for time beeing. Because palm rejection is completely
disaster, it recognize mypalms as two fingre touches. Before everything
worked with evdev. Currently evdev driver cannot handle touchpad it just
recognize taps and touchpad button clicks on my Latitude e7470. :( I
hope somebody can publish working configuration or some patch that help
me revert back to old "ImPS/2 BYD TouchPad" or make evdev working again.

  @{PROC}/driver/nvidia/params r,
  /dev/nvidia* rw,
  unix (send, receive) type=dgram peer=(addr="@nvidia[0-9a-f]*"),

I plan to raise bug to add these in webbrowser-app profile,

[Bug 1519668] Re: [Feature]Add Intel Omni-Path Architecture (OPA) Firmware

2017-03-01 Thread quanxian
We do not want the platform.dat file added to the distro.
The firmware binaries we want added are found in linux-firmware.
It would be better to grab them from there rather than our distribution
packages.

[Bug 1669257] [NEW] 16.04 nort 2.9.7 is EOL at March 13!

2017-03-01 Thread sles
Public bug reported:

According to

http://blog.snort.org/2017/02/snort-2976-is-approaching.html

the End of Life (EOL) for Snort version 2.9.7.6's ruleset is
approaching on March 13th.

But 16.04 still has snort 2.9.7.0!

Ubuntu have to provide fresh snort!

Thank you!

[Bug 1669254] [NEW] 16.04 apparmor, aa-logprof and log files

2017-03-01 Thread sles
Public bug reported:

First of all I'd like to say that by default

/etc/apparmor/logprof.conf

contains

 logfiles = /var/log/audit/audit.log /var/log/syslog /var/log/messages

from which only syslog exists in 16.04.

And there is kern.log , which seems to be better suited for reading
apparmor kernel messages.

Why not change this in distribution?

Thank you!

[Bug 1669242] [NEW] libreoffice equations disappear upon editing in impress

2017-03-01 Thread David Kaplan
Public bug reported:

Libreoffice
Version: 4.2.8.2
Build ID: 420m0(Build:2)

I am running Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS with all the latest updates. I have a
number of Libreoffice presentation documents (.odp) with equations in
them. I have used and edited these documents for the last year without
any problem. Today, every time I double click on an equation and go to
edit it, upon leaving equation mode the equation becomes invisible. I
don't even have to modify the equation for this to happen and the
equations are invisible in both editing and full-screen presentation
mode. If I save my document, restart my machine and reopen my document,
the equations are still invisible. The equation objects are there - I
can select the region with the equation and even open up the math editor
to see that the equation code is definitely present, but I have found no
way to make them appear outside of the math editor.

I am attaching a number of screenshots and a test document demonstrating
the problem.

I can do that. However, I am not sure if that is necessary since this is a
sync from bileti ppa, and thus it is identical binaries.

previously but so far the maintainer of this package has not assigned
the issue to anyone to follow up. Is there a way to link your report to

[Bug 1669227] [NEW] Marking unfound objects lost causes OSD to crash

2017-03-01 Thread Billy Olsen
Public bug reported:

On Firefly and Hammer, marking an unfound object as lost causes OSDs to
crash due to a failed assertion in the ordering of the journal entries.
The problem seems to be that the unfound objects are removed from the
set of objects needed to be locally recovered but failed to advance the
pg log pointer.

This has been raised as an upstream bug in:
http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/13468

This issue was fixed upstream in https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/6841

Backtrace for crash is:

[Bug 1590799] Re: nfs-kernel-server does not start because of dependency failure

2017-03-01 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * nfs-mountd doesn't get started because of a race condition happening when
rpcbind.socket is not specified as a needed service for it to start.
+ * nfs-server using rpcbind.target instead of using rpcbind.socket. Target
should not be used (Comment #24)
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install nfs-kernel-server inside a xenial lxc guest and restart it until
nfs-mountd doesn't start complaining on rpc error.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Cons: Systemd dependencies could brake for nfs-server and nfs-mountd.
+ * Pros: Patches have been accepted upstream (and tested).

  Additional comments:

- 1. There seems to be a circular dependency between nfs-mountd and
nfs-kernel-server
- 2. I can get it working by changing the AFter,Requires in
/lib/ssystemd/system/nfs-{mountd|server}.service files. I have managed to get
nfs-kernel-server to start but not nfs-mountd.
- 3. /usr/lib/systemd/scripts/nfs-utils_env.sh references
/etc/sysconfig/nfs which is Centos/RedHat location of this file. Also
/etc/default/nfs does not exist. (possibly unrelated to this bug)
- 4. A file "/lib/systemd/system/-.slice" exists. this file prevents
execution of 'ls *' or 'grep xxx *' commands in that directory. I am unsure
whether this is intended by the systemd developers but it is unfriendly when
investigating this bug.

[Bug 1404147] Re: Screen is stretched when using dual monitors

2017-03-01 Thread Simon Scott
Same problem here. Exactly the same as OP described. It has been going on for
months/years.
Lenovo T420s
Nvidia NVS 4200M graphics card
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Nvidia binary driver 378.13 from nvidia-378 (open source)

I only notice this when I connect my external monitor to the DislayPort.
Connecting via VGA connector does not give this problem.

As there a few more forks (but without releases on pypi) keep the
original package name without the -ext, please. Once this fork fest is
over, and other forks have kept the name, it will probably be the
original name again. This particular fork has the -ext at the end of the
name presumably in order to publish on pypi.
