[Bug 1691018] [NEW] PXE Installer does not load the AHCI kernel module if USB storage is found
Public bug reported: We are using the latest netboot image from Trusty (14.04) based on the Xenial kernel from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/trusty- updates/main/installer-amd64/current/images/xenial-netboot/ to perform an automatic installation of Ubuntu over the network. The hardware we use is an Intel NUC (Skull Canyon) which has one internal M2 SSD (Samsung) attached and one external USB SSD (Samsung). The USB SSD is connected via USB through an USB to SATA adapter. With this setup, when the installer boots it only detects the USB SSD from the NUC. The M2 SSD is not detected, nor are there any kernel messages about it. If we remove the USB SSD and reboot the installer, the M2 SSD is now detected by the installer. After further debugging we discovered that the installer loads the usb_storage driver and then detects the USB SSD. At this point, I believe the disk detection completes and no longer attempts to discover additional hardware. The reason our M2 SSD is not detected is because the installer does not load the ACHCI driver. To prove this is indeed the issue, we booted the NUC with both drives attached. After the installer detected the disks, on the console, I confirmed only the USB SSD is visible. After manually inserting the AHCI module (modprobe ahci) the M2 SSD is now detected. The workaround to fix this in the preseed is to run an early_command which loads the AHCI driver: d-i partman/early_command string modprobe ahci While this workaround fixed our issue, I belive the installer should better detect the storage devices, thus opening this as a bug. ** Affects: pxe (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1691018 Title: PXE Installer does not load the AHCI kernel module if USB storage is found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pxe/+bug/1691018/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1690992] Re: fix for bug #1569649 left NetworkManager-wait-online disabled on some systems
** Description changed: [SRU Justification] While attempting to verify the usage of NetworkManager-wait-online.service in Ubuntu, I have discovered that while the packaging says that this service should be enabled (LP: #1569649), it is disabled on my machine. I believe that users who have continuously upgraded their systems, including over pre-releases of Ubuntu, may have been left in the same situation, where NetworkManager-wait-online.service is inactive and their boot order is therefore unreliable. This disabled NetworkManager-wait-online due to lack of upgrade fix-up may explain other bug reports I've seen around NFS handling, where users continue to report that NFS is not correctly mounted at boot. Though late, a one-time upgrade fix-up is warranted so that users can have consistent handling of the network-online target. + + [Test case] + TBD + + [Regression potential] + Since NetworkManager-wait-online uses a 30 second timeout, services that depend on network-online.target should see at most a 30 second delay in startup. There should be no functional regressions, only regressions in the speed of boot and only on systems where services have explicitly declared that they depend on the network and the network is not available at boot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690992 Title: fix for bug #1569649 left NetworkManager-wait-online disabled on some systems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1690992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

So, I just noticed that NetworkManager-wait-online uses --timeout: ExecStart=/usr/bin/nm-online -s -q --timeout=30 which means this delays services at most 30 seconds at boot. And you can ignore my blather about this preventing services from running. Sorry! [Bug 1690992] [NEW] fix for bug #1569649 left NetworkManager-wait-online disabled on some systems
Public bug reported: [SRU Justification] While attempting to verify the usage of NetworkManager-wait-online.service in Ubuntu, I have discovered that while the packaging says that this service should be enabled (LP: #1569649), it is disabled on my machine. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690992 Title: fix for bug #1569649 left NetworkManager-wait-online disabled on some systems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1690992/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Did you decide that this is negligible? > That was the advice I got from the Debian systemd maintainers (that the > impact > would be negligible). Ok, the analysis on the Debian bug looks rather shallow to me: > - The penalty of pulling in network-online.target is simply that for the > local case postfix is started a bit later then necessary during boot. There's no reason that this *should* be true for an intermittently-online machine. The network-online.target is specifically defined so that services are not started until the network connection is actually up; or put another way, if a system is booted and can't get a network connection, those services are not started. We don't just start them at some random point, that would defeat the purpose. So the case I described is still not handled here - a postfix setup that has no dependency on the network interface bring-up (for binding), such as the default config, will nevertheless be blocked from starting until there is a network, including in cases where this is much more than a mere startup timing distinction. Now, you can't have a single unit config that simultaneously meets Russell's request from the original bug report, to defer startup until a given bind address is available, and the case I describe above, where you care about postfix running even when the network is not up. I would argue that the case I outlined is more important to get right out of the box, since it requires no changes to the default postfix config whereas Russell's use case does. But it's your decision as maintainer which to support as the default; I just won't SRU the network-online.target change into any Ubuntu stable releases because it would introduce a regression. > > For the case of a server which always has a network connection, this works > > fine. Part of the reason I was having so much trouble replicating > problems others were seeing was getting NM to quit 'helping' as the test > system I was using also has a desktop installed. Do you really mean that it restarts postfix when the network is available, or is it starting postfix for the first time? The expected behavior is that postfix doesn't start at all until the network is up. This is managed via /lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager-wait-online.service in both Ubuntu and Debian. (FWIW in the process of confirming this, I have identified a bug at least in Ubuntu, related to LP: #1569649, whereby NetworkManager-wait-online is not enabled on some systems that have been continuously upgraded from Ubuntu pre-releases. I'm working on fixing this now.) > > Ultimately I want to SRU this into affected stable Ubuntu releases, so would > > want a regression-free change. > > > > I see you are also setting After=nss-lookup.target. For the bug reported > > here - which is about DNS resolution specifically - would it not suffice to > > have postfix declare this After=nss-lookup.target, and for systemd-resolved > > to be sequenced before it? > According to the Debian systemd people, the systemd-resolved is superfluous. > It's nss-lookup.target that I wanted all along. Well, in theory yes, but in practice I see nothing - including systemd-resolved - that's wired up to this target in Debian or Ubuntu. The nss-lookup target does nothing: $ systemctl status nss-lookup.target ● nss-lookup.target - Host and Network Name Lookups Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/nss-lookup.target; static; vendor preset: Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:systemd.special(7) $ journalctl -u nss-lookup.target -- No entries -- $ Oh, if you happen to also install bind, then you get this target. But that's not the common case. So your current unit deps work *only* because you are also depending on network-online.target, and resolvconf handling happens before network-online. The After=nss-lookup.target is a complete no-op. I think we should fix that so that it's *not* a no-op, but that means touching a few more moving pieces.

[Bug 1690287] Re: libengine-pkcs11-openssl installs to wrong directory
I think there was a *brief* period where this worked correctly in the archive, insofar as the version of ``libengine-pkcs11-openssl`` in Yakkety, built against xenial libssl1.0.0, would've used the right path. [Bug 1690984] [NEW] Wifi drops out RTL8821AE
Public bug reported: Have tried downloading and compiling driver, have tried /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8821ae.conf with combinations of options rtl8821ae fwlps swlps being Y, N, 1, and 0. None of the combinations works. WiFi comes up, lasts a few seconds - maybe up to a few minutes, then disconnects. [Bug 1690964] Re: All Settings in Gnome Shell is missing 'Software & Updates' icon
Personal is supposed to be just one row too but we need to fix bug 1631750 first and then drop language-selector-gnome from the default install. I don't see it as a significant omission to not have it in the Settings app. Ubuntu GNOME has done it that way for years. (We also have Tweak Tool for even more settings). [Bug 1690964] Re: All Settings in Gnome Shell is missing 'Software & Updates' icon
This is basically intentional for a couple reasons. 1. If Software & Updates were integrated into the Settings panel instead of a separate app, it would make a lot more sense. 2. The current gnome-control-center design does not have any extra room in the System row. The GNOME Developers hope that the new design will be ready for GNOME 3.26. The new design is more flexible about number of panels or subpanels. Have you considered moving Software & Update settings into GNOME Software instead? ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690964 Title: All Settings in Gnome Shell is missing 'Software & Updates' icon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1690964/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Some other themes ship a theme in /usr/share/themes/THEMENAME/gnome- shell/ GNOME does not really recommend that distros enable the user- theme extension by default so we should talk with GNOME to figure out the recommended way to set a distro's default gnome-shell theme. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690966 Title: Gnome Shell elements (power menu, launcher etc) are the wrong colour when using Ambiance (wrong grey, and blue highlights) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1690966/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1643911] Re: libvirt randomly crashes on xenial nodes with "*** Error in `/usr/sbin/libvirtd': malloc(): memory corruption:"
@ChristianEhrhardt - After few days stress, the issue cat not be reproduced by the script I provide. So I fallback to use a more simple script, which I use at the beginning to reproduce the issue in my environment, a script just start/stop instance and sleep (without vm status check). After change to use this script, the issue is reproducible (but require few days in my test), with libvirt-bin(1.3.1-1ubuntu10.8) and qemu(1:2.5 +dfsg-5ubuntu10.11) and 20 cirros guest. The real instance behavior is more complex in the simple script, because sometimes the openstack api will encounter conflict error due to vm status is not match Cannot 'stop' instance 971fe132-55de-4ff7-b1e8-c556390964c1 while it is in vm_state stopped (HTTP 409) Cannot 'start' instance 01eae3e9-6330-4594-a1dd-dcdbf3a4d392 while it is in vm_state active (HTTP 409) So some instance may be start/stop in the same time, due to some action may not be apply on previous command, and some pattern seems trigger libvirt crash. However, due to the behavior is very complex, so I'm not sure if the issue is reproducible on other environment. For example, if sleep time is long enough to let all vm finish their task, than there will no conflict error, and the script behavior will like the script I provide behavior, which can not reproduce the issue. On the other hand, if the sleep time is too short or too much guest, the openstack environment may not able to handle the request rate, which may lead some other client or server error ** Attachment added: "crash-loop.sh" https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1643911/+attachment/4877202/+files/crash-loop.sh -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1643911 Title: libvirt randomly crashes on xenial nodes with "*** Error in `/usr/sbin/libvirtd': malloc(): memory corruption:" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libvirt/+bug/1643911/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
