2017-06-07 Thread goetz
reason may be - or comes together whith - that the installation-program
crashed when I made the fresh install of this ubuntu version from usb.
During installation i chose efi option with info displayed that not
other remaining os on the computer can be started then, which was ok
for me. As I understood the installation wasn't able then to update the
bootmanager for this option and displayed message that the system won't
start. I was glad it does even though - but don't have an idea what is
needed to get the system properly set up.

An: gm...@freenet.de

The error in your log is:

shim-signed (1.28+0.9+1474479173.6c180c6-1ubuntu1) wird eingerichtet
...
x86_64-efi wird für Ihre Plattform installiert.
grub-install: Fehler: EFI-Verzeichnis kann nicht gefunden werden.
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten des Paketes shim-signed (--configure):
Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert
1 zurück

But your bug report also shows that your system does not have EFI
support enabled.  Do you know why the EFI version of grub is installed
if your system is not booted using EFI?

This worked for me. I had a unused Fiber NIC still installed and removed it.
FYI: NIC Had LSI Chip (L2A1157) and I have a Nvidia Quadro FX 4800/PCIe/SSE2

Seems to be some type of Hardware & IRQ issue.
Problem has been gone for last 2 days.

[Bug 1696621] Re: Desktop icons slip under the top bar

2017-06-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Yes, I am aware that the live session has an Install Ubuntu icon on the
desktop. Ubuntu GNOME does not. Fedora worked around this with a simple
Welcome app that starts the installer or tells you where to find the
installer if you want to close the Welcome app.

I will be proposing that Ubuntu 17.10 install gnome-tweak-tool by
default.

Just because many people want desktop icons does not mean that they have
to be enabled by default if we provide an easy way for them to be
enabled. Because of course there are many people who don't use desktop
icons. (It sounds like the Unity8 complaining may have been because it
was impossible, not necessarily because of the defaults.)

Also note...

Starting in http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20170607/

immediately visible on boot.

So I guess we do need to fix this.

[Bug 1696621] Re: Desktop icons slip under the top bar after logging in again

2017-06-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes and no. Nautilus draws the desktop (including icons) but it remains
to be seen where the root cause of this bug is. It might be gnome-shell
failing to communicate the work area correctly to nautilus...

As for whether to show desktop icons at all, it should be noted this is
a different decision to when we were looking at Unity8. In Unity8/Mir
the desktop icons didn't exist simply because supporting desktop windows
like nautilus wasn't anywhere near implemented yet. But users did
complain even in the limited testing of Unity8, about not being able to
use the desktop as a desktop for icons.

I think this should be considered a nautilus bug first since gnome-shell
itself does not draw desktop icons.

By the way, I don't believe the Ubuntu Desktop team has discussed yet
whether to show desktop icons by default in 17.10.

[Bug 1696623] [NEW] macvtap creation issue using net namespaces

2017-06-07 Thread Rolando Zappacosta
Public bug reported:

Hi there,

There seems to be a bug when trying to create two macvtap links that are
contained within different net namespaces. This is what I'm facing and,
at the same time, the steps to reproduce the issue:

1 - Create two net namespaces:
#
root@rjz-nuc:~# ip netns add bng1
root@rjz-nuc:~# ip netns add bng2

2 - Create two veth links, one in one net NS and another one in the other net
NS:
#
root@rjz-nuc:~# ip link add netns bng1 bng1-111_veth type veth peer name
subs-lg111_veth
root@rjz-nuc:~# ip link add netns bng2 bng2-111_veth type veth peer name
subs-lg211_veth

3a - Add a macvtap link on top of the 1st veth in the 1st net NS:
#
root@rjz-nuc:~# ip netns exec bng1 ip link add link bng1-111_veth name
bng1-111_mcvtp type macvtap mode passthru

3b - This executes correctly and creates a tap device:
#
root@rjz-nuc:~# ip netns exec bng1 ip link show bng1-111_mcvtp
3: bng1-111_mcvtp@bng1-111_veth: mtu 1500 qdisc noop
state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 500
link/ether ae:c6:bc:d8:d2:e7 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

3c - Note the "3:" at the beginning of above output pointing to "tap3" that the
command created:
#
root@rjz-nuc:~# ls -tral /dev/tap*
crw--- 1 root root 241, 1 Jun 7 20:16 /dev/tap3

4a - Try to add another macvtap link but now on top of the 1st veth in the 2nd
net NS:
#
root@rjz-nuc:~# ip netns exec bng2 ip link add link bng2-111_veth name
bng2-111_mcvtp type macvtap mode passthru
RTNETLINK answers: File exists

4b - As it can be seen, it fails stating "file exists". Checking the output of
"dmesg", it can be seen the reason behind this is that instead of choosing as
the tap device the next system-wide free one (for instance, say, tap4) it
chooses the "tap3" that was already created by the command in step 3a above:

Confirmed in artful too. It works in the GNOME session (Xorg) but not in
GNOME on Wayland.

** Summary changed:

- gnome-tweak-tool "Show location of pointer" does not work under Wayland
+ gnome-tweak-tool "Show location of pointer" (now "Pointer Location") does not

[Bug 1696621] [NEW] Desktop icons slip under the top bar after logging in again

2017-06-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Desktop icons slip under the top bar after logging in again.

If I place icons on the desktop in Gnome Shell they look fine, until I
log out and log in again. On the second login they have moved half under
the top bar.

[Bug 1696618] [NEW] Certain emails are not loaded properly via IMAP+

2017-06-07 Thread Simone Lussardi
Public bug reported:

I'm pretty sure this is a bug, as it is not documented nor reported by
anyone else before.

1)
simone@simone-ThinkPad-T540p:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04

2)
simone@simone-ThinkPad-T540p:~$ apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
  Installed: 3.18.5.2-0ubuntu3.2
  Candidate: 3.18.5.2-0ubuntu3.2
  Version table:
 *** 3.18.5.2-0ubuntu3.2 500
500 http://ftp.sjtu.edu.cn/ubuntu xenial-updates/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.18.5.2-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://ftp.sjtu.edu.cn/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages

3)
This bug is ***serious, as it scares people away from Evolution. I have setup
my main email account as IMAP+. Most of the email are downloaded correctly, but
some of them are not. From the message source, it seems that is a MULTIPART
message, and not all parts are loaded. When the problem happens, all headers
are not displayed when previewing the mail, but somehow the "From" in the list
is correct. To view the email, I have to use my phone (K9 Mail) or Thunderbird.
I am really wanting to switch to Evolution because I think is an overall
better, more performing and more integrated program, but this stupid bug is
causing me to think it over.

4)
I expect to see the message when I click it... not empty

If you need any further info, like the complete exact message source
code, I **can** provide it (nothing secret in there).

hi Daniel,

Agree with you that is something they need to fix. I have sent mail to
HiSilicon and their VGA card vendors and they replied some for confirming
and understand questions or our requests. I will push them again.

thanks,

[Bug 1691991] Re: Xorg Segmentation fault on Hisilicon D05 board (arm64)

2017-06-07 Thread Daniel Axtens
Hi Mao,

I have installed a version of the kernel which ignores the capabilities
of the PCI bridge when determining whether a device can be the boot
device. With this patched kernel, X starts without needing a config
file.

This confirms:
 - that the vga card is not marked as boot device because of the the PCI bridge
that the VGA card sits behind.
 - not being marked as boot vga is what is causing X not to pick it up the card.

This is a debug patch only, and not a patch we will be able to get
upstream, so I think we will need to discuss with the HiSilicon people
why their hardware is behaving this way.

Regards,
Daniel

[Bug 1696604] [NEW] excessive ipv6 adding/deleting default route in artful

2017-06-07 Thread Tiago Stürmer Daitx
Public bug reported:

Package: dhcpcd5
Version: 6.11.5-0ubuntu1
Release: artful

dhcpcd5 in artful is outputting repeated messages about adding/deleting
ipv6 default routes. I didn't check other releases.

The actual log is not the problem, but the actual behavior seems to be:
I don't expect dhcpcd to be adding a default route only to then
instantly remove it.

The only similar issue I could find was this one:
https://serverfault.com/questions/846019/dhcpcd-ipv6-excessive-adding-removing-route-in-log
but the solution presented there (removing the route manually) does not work on
this case.
I found nothing in dhcpcd bug tracking tool at
https://dev.marples.name/maniphest/query/all/

Copy & paste from syslog:

[Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

I think it would be great if we could get this patch upstreamed into the
network-manager!
I've attached a finalized version of the patch with a more informative /
verbose syslog message that also accounts for cisco gre/gretap connections not
in #49. Please use this patch when building network-manager for Ubuntu 17.04. I
will also attach a .deb build of network-manager for easy installation and
testing for anyone interested. So far, this is known to solve dns leaks with
network-manager-openvpn but could also solve dns leaks for other VPNs that use
TUN, TAP, or Cisco GRE network interfaces through the network-manager.
You should now see a message in your syslog when connecting that looks like the
following:
NetworkManager[32636]: [1496880041.6435]
systemd-resolved[0x55cc602ce430]: Link #12 type is VPN TUN or TAP, fixing DNS
leak...

Make sure to stop apt from replacing the patched .deb using:
sudo apt-mark hold network-manager
To verify that you are using the 'routing-only domain', use the command
systemd-resolve --status
and look for the line "DNS Domain: ~." under the VPN link number.
Alternatively, check that you are not experiencing DNS leaks using the
'extended test' on https://dnsleaktest.com/

Cheers :)

detail, though:

LANG=C pulseaudio - --log-time=1 > ~/pulseverbose.log 2>&1  32.48s user
29.58s system 1% cpu 1:08:45.80 total

I've attached the log from that 2nd failure (PID=17630). I don't have
the log from the first one because I had restarted it manually without
logs earlier in the day.

[Bug 1569925] Re: Shutdown hang on 16.04 with iscsi targets

2017-06-07 Thread Nish Aravamudan
@kai-holthause or @gimpeystrada: would either of you be able to test
with the daily artful (17.10) ISO?

@kai-holthause: I think you did find a real ordering issue, nicely done
:)

[Bug 1696599] [NEW] backport/sync UEFI, Secure Boot support

2017-06-07 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Since the implementation of UEFI Secure Boot in Ubuntu, there has been a large
number of changes to the EFI patchset, handled "upstream" at
https://github.com/vathpela/grub2-fedora/tree/sb. This is a complex set of
enablement patches across a number of packages. Most of them will be fairly
straightforward backports, but there are a few known warts:

 * The included patches are based on grub2 2.02~beta3; as such, some
patches require extra backporting effort of other pieces of the loader
code down to releases that do not yet include 2.02~beta3 code.

[Test Case]
The desktop, server, and alternate install images should all boot and install
on an SB-enabled system. I would recommend testing installations from both a CD
and a USB stick. After each installation, validate that Secure Boot is enabled
by checking /sys/firmware/efi/efivars/SecureBoot-*, as well as
/sys/firmware/efi/efivars/Mok* variables (for the cases where shim validation
may be disabled).

Tests should include:
- booting with Secure Boot enabled
- booting with Secure Boot enabled, but shim validation disabled
- booting with Secure Boot disabled, but still in EFI mode

[Regression Potential]
Check that non-SB installations of all these images still work. For this, it is
sufficient to test with either a CD or a USB stick, but not necessarily both.

[Bug 1688632] Re: nplan 0.23 update

2017-06-07 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Nplan has been in active development and includes important bug fixes and
critical features for users.

  [Test case]
  - Run nplan integration tests on the release
  - Validate that netplan generate && netplan apply alone, without config,
behave as expected (no result)
  - Validate that netplan generate && netplan apply with minimal config writes
/run/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf
  - Validate that netplan generate && netplan apply works with any existing
configuation.

  [Regression potential]
- Any failure to work with existing configuration should be considered a
regression. Any new failure of the test suite would be a regression.
+ Existing configurations should remain working with no changes. Possible
regressions might include failing to properly set routes for devices, or
applying custom configuration for bridge on bond devices.
