[Bug 1681513] Re: Ubuntu 17.04/17.10: New feature in NetworkManager stops several WiFi adapters from working (MAC Address Randomization issue)

2017-07-01 Thread Gregg Berkholtz (TOCICI)
Also confirming for Surface Pro 1:
WiFi would report successful association, and then immediately drop the
connection giving "reason code 2" and "CMD_RESP: cmd 0x10f error, result=0x2"
as the only hints.

Disabling MAC randomization fixed the issue.

2017-07-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1698317] Re: AllowUsers *@*.local in /etc/ssh/sshd_config does not work

2017-07-01 Thread Trent Lloyd
If you want to block access to the local LAN only, then that is correct.

My best suggestion would be to secure your SSH and thus not worry so
much if it's accessed by some other host on the network. If you
restrict it to one user, have a very secure password and/or SSH key only
then your attack surface is relatively limited. But that's a personal
choice ultimately.

AppArmomr does provide a library interface to the cache and loading,
it does not however provide a library interface to compiling policy.

man aa_policy_cache will give you documentation for
aa_policy_cache - an opaque object representing an AppArmor policy
   cache

   aa_policy_cache_new - create a new aa_policy_cache object from a
path

aa_policy_cache_ref - increments the ref count of an aa_policy_cache
   object

aa_policy_cache_unref - decrements the ref count and frees the
   aa_policy_cache object when 0

aa_policy_cache_remove - removes all policy cache files under a
path

aa_policy_cache_replace_all - performs a kernel policy replacement of
   all cached policies

and man aa_kernel_interface

aa_kernel_interface - an opaque object representing the AppArmor kernel
interface for policy loading, replacing, and removing

   aa_kernel_interface_new - create a new aa_kernel_interface object from
   an optional path

aa_kernel_interface_ref - increments the ref count of an
   aa_kernel_interface object

aa_kernel_interface_unref - decrements the ref count and frees the
   aa_kernel_interface object when 0

aa_kernel_interface_load_policy - load a policy from a buffer into the
   kernel

   aa_kernel_interface_load_policy_from_file - load a policy from a file
   into the kernel

   aa_kernel_interface_load_policy_from_fd - load a policy from a file
   descriptor into the kernel

aa_kernel_interface_replace_policy - replace a policy in the kernel
with a policy from a buffer

   aa_kernel_interface_replace_policy_from_file - replace a policy in the
kernel with a policy from a file

   aa_kernel_interface_replace_policy_from_fd - replace a policy in the
kernel with a policy from a file descriptor

   aa_kernel_interface_remove_policy - remove a policy from the
kernel

   aa_kernel_interface_write_policy - write a policy to a file
descriptor

the compile part will eventually come as a library but is far less useful
and systemd should just call the external policy compiler if policy is stale.

yes this is a problem, generally we have been taking the approach that
if the packaging drops the profile in the apparmor.d/ directory or other
directories set in /etc/apparmor/parser.conf apparmor will load/reload
it.

If they choose to store policy in another location (snappy, lxd, ...)
they are responsible for loading/managing that part of the policy.

Basically if you want apparmor to manage/load the policy it needs to
know where it is. Otherwise you are on your own.

Thanks for that. Disappointing. Presumably means that every time I take
my server laptop to a new WiFi network I will have to alter
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.

I am currently using

[Bug 1701852] [NEW] (xenial+) apt-cache fails to run if a single sources.list.d entry is not readable

2017-07-01 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

When evaluating:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-advantage-
tools/+bug/1700611

On 16.04 and greater, apt-cache fails to run if a single sources.list.d
is not readable (by the current user). On Trusty, the behavior was a
bit more friendly in that it would run and just not show results from
the file that cannot be read.

My expectation is that when run it would warn if any .list file could
not be read, but show results for everything it can see.

This terminal interaction shows the problem (trusty and precise behave
the same here):

ubuntu@precise-esm:~$ ll /etc/apt/sources.list.d/staging-ubuntu-esm-precise.list

No, this bug is specifically about *ssh_config*, not *sshd_config* - the
client configuration file, not the server configuration file. Even
leaving aside the lack of upstream support for Include in sshd_config
(which is https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2468), I'd expect
to at least have to think about the two separately, due to
considerations such as ordering (ssh_config has per-user configuration
files to be considered as well, while sshd_config doesn't; sshd_config
frequently has more complex issues related to Match blocks).

I was glad to receive Erich's response to the question I asked them
directly. :-) I understand the general usefulness of .d directories in
configuration systems and have put effort into supporting them in the
past; I was specifically asking the bug reporter for what packaged
modifications to ssh_config they wanted to be able to deliver, because I
wanted to know whether it was a matter of packaging site-local changes
or a matter of extensions being made by other packages that we might
ship in the distribution. Site-local changes I entirely understand; if
it were distribution-shipped changes then I would want to look into the
details at some more length.

I generally try hard to avoid the scope of a bug drifting too far. My
experience is that it's easy to consolidate multiple bugs that turn out
to be about the same thing, but difficult to deal with single bugs that
have ended up being about multiple things. It can be difficult to avoid
sounding sharp when trying to stop a bug from undergoing scope creep,
and I'm sorry for that. However, please do take any points about
sshd_config to a separate bug report.
