[Bug 1025388] Re: Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones
Same issue as #17, when I connect my headphone with combo jack (works great with other devices) to laptop with ubuntu 16.04. In PulseAudio volume control gui, in 'Input devices' tab, it shows that internal microphone is 'unplugged' and microphone (external, from combo headset) is 'plugged in'. But it does not work! So as I find out that the combo headset clearly does not work due to lack of drivers, there should be a workaround to let users use the internal mic instead. PS: This issue has been for 5 long year (see #1 above), somebody please do something. If we have commonplace headset with combo jack and and recent laptops with combo port, we evidently can't use ubuntu for video chatting. That's quite a downfall. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025388 Title: Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1025388/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1653959] Re: [MIR] parallax, dependency of crmsh
I reviewed parallax version 1.0.1-3 as checked into artful; this should not be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. - No CVEs in our CVE database - Parallax provides an API for multiple ssh use: executing commands on multiple hosts, copying files to and from multiple hosts. - Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-python, python-all, python3-all - Does not daemonize - auto-generated python postinst scripts - No initscripts - No systemd unit files - No dbus services - No setuids - No binaries in the path - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - There's a file with tests but nothing run during the build; it feels like it would be hard to test - No cron jobs - Clean build logs - Subprocesses are spawned as the whole point of the package; safe array mechanism for parameters, manages close-on-exec for its own filedescriptors - Files are written to as part of stdout/stderr handling, seemed safe - Uses PARALLAX_ASKPASS_SOCKET and PARALLAX_ASKPASS_VERBOSE environment variables, seemed safe - Does not itself do networking or cryptography - No privileged portions of code - No temporary files - No webkit - No js - No policykit Parallax seemed straight-forward enough. Like many python programs actual error results are sometimes discarded before giving the user a generic error message. This is annoying but not really unique to parallax. I didn't investigate if there's any cross-machine attacks possible -- TIOCSTI for example is a way for a terminal-driven program to drive the terminal. I would love to hear feedback from someone about this. Here's some notes I took when reviewing parallax in the hopes that they are useful to someone: - read_host_file() strips each line twice, once when reading, once when parsing - askpass_main() misleading error text "Couldn't bind to %s:" but the failed call is sock.connect(address). In fact most useful information about errors in this function is discarded entirely rather than being presented to the user. Security team ACK for promoting parallax to main. [Bug 1698454] Re: TCP/IP Throughput Limitation
My initial conclusion on something changing in the Kernel was incorrect. I've since tested 17.04 all the way back to 4.2.8 and it still fails. I've also tested 15.10 up to 4.3.6 and it works correctly. So something in Ubuntu's implementation changed between 15.10 and 16.04 that is causing this bug. ** Tags removed: kernel-bug-exists-upstream ** Tags added: xenial yakkety ** Description changed: I'm having a severe TCP receive problem with a new Ubuntu 16 server and an Intel 82599ES 10-Gigabit SFP+ (X520 series card) when a windows 10 machine is used to send the data. The receive performance is 1Gb to 2Gb steady using iperf single stream, while send is 9.42Gb. Here is what I have found: -Running 8 parallel streams in iperf gets me the full 9.42 in aggregate -Tried a few windows 10 machines with repeatable same results -Same results through switch or direct -Linux to linux no problems -Tested with clean installs of 16.04.02 and 4.4.0-66 kernel, latest the upgrade will give me, also tried 17.04 with up to 4.10.0-20-generic same problem, tried 4.11.0-041100rc8-generic and problem seemed to go away for a bit but came back so I think that might be a red herring (see interesting note below). -14.04 and 15.10 with up to 4.2.8-040208-generic is 9.42/9.42 (works fine, couldn't get 4.3 to install on 15.10) -14.04 with the latest 5.0.4 ixgbe driver still works fine, does not seem to be a driver version issue. -Tried swapping out cards with another same model/chipset with same exact result -Large receive offload increases the performance from a steady 1Gb to a steady 2.14Gb -Disabling sack under got me 75% of the way back to full speed, but it was very unstable (didn't hold at a solid speed) -Using a different brand of card in this same server (but not the same slot) (mellanox infiniband running in ethernet mode) is 9.42/8.5 (seems to work fine, 9.42 to 8.5 is windows machine limit I think) -Interesting: When swapping between intel and mellanox 10Gbe cards (with a reboot of the server inbetween, but not a reboot of the windows machine, and keeping the same IP on the server) the performance does not change immediately. When going from intel to mellanox the first test holds around 1 or 2Gbit, then after that it jumps up to 8.5 steady. Similarly when switching from mellanox to Intel the first 1 or 2 seconds of performance hits 8.x then drop in half or more and within 3 or 4 seconds it is back to 1Gbit and stays there for each subsequent iperf test. -Interesting: When capturing packets on wireshark on windows, performance comes up to 8.5! (No, ditching windows isn't an option here unfortunately. :) So obviously something in the way the two tcp stacks are interacting without a buffer inbetween when the intel driver is online is causing issues. -Port bonding makes no difference (nor should it for single stream) -Tried rolling the intel driver back to the 3.2.1 version that is on 14.04 but it was too old to compile -I suspect this is a kernel TCP/IP implementation change somewhere between 4.2 and 4.4 that has caused it to not play nice with window's stack. Based on the delayed performance change I'm thinking something is messing with flow control, the tcp congestion algorithm, or the tcp window. I tried turning some various tcp options off, tweaking some values, changing congestion algorithms, hardware flow control, and comparing sysctl stuff from the u14 machine to this machine to no avail. + + UPDATE: + My initial conclusion on something changing in the Kernel was incorrect. I've since tested 17.04 all the way back to 4.2.8 and it still fails. I've also tested 15.10 up to 4.3.6 and it works correctly. [Bug 1705748] Re: Samsung SSD 960 EVO 500GB refused to change power state
Confirm that removing: nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 from boot params results in reproducible problem on resume from suspend. Downloaded and installed 4.13 headers and generic kernel: Linux version 4.13.0-041300rc1-generic Unable to test issue with above kernel. System boots ok, but now fails to suspend, so cannot check result on resume. Starts to suspend, switches off monitors, then hangs and becomes totally unresponsive, but still powered up, fan running, etc, will not resume, requiring power down or reset button to be pressed, no clues in syslog: Jul 22 00:40:05 phs08 systemd[1]: Reached target Sleep. Screens off, keyboard, mouse unresponsive, will not resume from suspend Reset or Power off/on -> re-boots ok System is also much noisier with fan seemingly running at higher speed, but cannot check as it87 will not load. [Bug 1690085] Re: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks
AMD has not publicly commented on this issue that I'm aware of. This issue has been seen on many different operating systems. DragonFlyBSD includes a workaround for this issue. The workaround on Linux is to compile the kernel with CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU, CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU_ALL, and disable ASLR using "echo 0 >/proc/sys/kernel/randomize_va_space". This can be put into rc.local. It's also possible to hardcode ASLR as disabled into the kernel, but this requires modifying the kernel source, not just the config file. There is a new AGESA update released about a week ago, 1.0.0.6a, although I have not tested whether the new AGESA alone (without any kernel changes) solves the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1690085 Title: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1690085/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1664566] Re: sssd_krb5_locator_plugin.so is not loaded (installed at wrong path)
** Description changed: - Hi, + [Impact] - I'm on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, sssd-common 1.13.4-1ubuntu1.1, libkrb5-3 - 1.13.2+dfsg-5. + Users cannot rely on the sssd krb5 locator plugin. Effect varies from + slow logins (client trying to reach many different KDCs instead of + directly the one specified by sssd configuration) to failed logins. - I'm in an environment with several Active Directory sites, each with a - domain controller. When remote sites' DCs are unreachable because of a - VPN outage, password authentication is slow or fails. tcpdump shows the - system is trying to talk to the other sites' domain controllers, and - timing out. + The bug is simple, and so is the fix. Re: [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
This really isn't acceptable for our use. We may have a rather smallish organization (I manage 103 Ubuntu machines, most of them user-facing workstations) but we are a national research institute and we give Linux and Ubuntu international attention every time we have a group of scientists arrive for a workshop simply by running something other than the standard Winblows ecosystem. Creating a second account for them really isn't feasible, and trying to convince them to log in a second time, "just in case," just doesn't work. For many of them this will be their first exposure to a Linux desktop environment, and if they get bitten by a bug like this then it'll probably be their last. This bug makes both Ubuntu and Linux in general look bad, and that makes me sad. There are some functions that you just expect to work without fail, and this is one of them. [Bug 1705685] Re: Desktop icons offset on 17.10 live cd
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1705685/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. Re: [Bug 1705551] Re: close lid suspends correctly and wakealarm resumes from suspend to run cron jobs but opening lid reveals no display
Sorry, I forgot to make a correction to my [Additional Information] which I re-tested. After my cron backup job is finished it will check if the lid is closed. If it is closed then it will run pm-suspend. If I then open the lid, the laptop resumes without a normal working display. So pm-suspend suspended the laptop without a display and the next time I open the lid the laptop resumes without a display. [Bug 1692981] Re: package libssl-dev:amd64 1.0.2g-1ubuntu11.2 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration
I had a slightly different issue but the solution was very similar. When I ran the dpkg command it didn't list any bad packages, though when I updated it still told me there was a package in a very bad state. I used: sudo apt-get install --reinstall libssl1.0.0:i386 (this was listed in my term.log file as bad) and now everything is updating/installing properly. [Bug 1696814] Re: add openjdk hs log to list of acceptable_fields in whoopsie
Import notes about running the testcase in Xenial and Zesty: 1. OpenJDK 8 has not yet been released with the apport hook on Xenial and Zesty; I copied the source_openjdk-8.py hook file from the apport package-hooks directory from OpenJDK 8 in artful to the right place in order to test it in Xenial and Zesty. 2. The HotspotError key was present in all cases when viewing the report with the apport-cli tool, as expected, and whoopsie *without* the fix ignored the key and didn't upload it, also as expected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1696814 Title: add openjdk hs log to list of acceptable_fields in whoopsie To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/whoopsie/+bug/1696814/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
