[Bug 1707352] [NEW] the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane

2017-07-28 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

I don't know if that can be prevented in the long run. But both brscan
(for my brother scanner) and iscan (for my epson scanners) have been
broken by the change from libsane to libsane1. For iscan I have

libsane to libsane1 and installed the changed package. But even then my
epson scanners no more work leaving me without any scanner => Reporting
a bug.

[Bug 1707347] [NEW] isso 0.9.9 package on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS doesn't work at all

2017-07-28 Thread Andrew
Public bug reported:

Attempts to use embed.min.js fail with "Reference error: exports is not
defined". This appears to be inherited from Debian, see their bug here:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=783490

It's probably fixed in 16.10 (package version 0.10.4), but it would be
nice to get it updated in LTS if possible; the current LTS package is
unusable.

[Bug 1132813] Re: equivs: add support for links in generated packages

2017-07-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package equivs - 2.1.0

---
equivs (2.1.0) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Axel Beckert ]
  * Adopt equivs under the Debian Perl Group umbrella. (Closes: #852223)
  * Import package history into a Git repository and add Vcs-*
headers. (Closes: #663424)
+ Add a .gitignore file.
  * Apply wrap-and-sort.
  * Switch debian/rules to minimal dh v7 style.
+ Use debian/install instead calling cp inside debian/rules.
+ Remove obsolete variables.
+ Replace usage of dpkg-parsechangelog with $SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH. Fixes
  lintian warning debian-rules-parses-dpkg-parsechangelog.
  * Rename debian/equivs.* to debian/*.
  * Move documentation files from debian/*.pod to *.pod.
  * Move man page generation from debian/rules to a new Makefile.
  * Declare compliance with Debian Policy 4.0.0. (No changes needed.)
  * Bump debhelper compatibility to 10.
+ Update versioned debhelper build-dependency accordingly.
  * pod2man call: Replace "Debian/GNU" with just "Debian".
  * Use $TMPDIR as directory for package builds if set in the
environment. (Closes: #660765)

  [ Wookey ]
  * Add Support for links. (Closes: #701626, #682929, LP: #1132813)
  * Fix typos in debian/README.Debian.

  [ John Reese ]
  * Add support to build source packages, e.g. for source-only uploads as
required for uploading to Ubuntu PPAs. (Closes: #603850)

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2017-07-28 Thread Alex
Another unhappy bunny here. 16.04.02, 4.4.0-83-generic

The DHCP lease from the router is 10 minutes. Ubuntu just doesn't renew
it. After exactly 10 minutes this happens:

Jul 29 03:58:21 airwolf avahi-daemon[751]: Withdrawing address record for
192.168.1.22 on enp0s31f6.
Jul 29 03:58:21 airwolf avahi-daemon[751]: Leaving mDNS multicast group on
interface enp0s31f6.IPv4 with address 192.168.1.22.
Jul 29 03:58:21 airwolf avahi-daemon[751]: Interface enp0s31f6.IPv4 no longer
relevant for mDNS.

Also, /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.leases is 0 bytes

[Bug 1707341] [NEW] nm-dispatcher caused kernel crash.

2017-07-28 Thread spit4520
Public bug reported:

After "waking" (shaking my mouse) to revive the display server my
machine was usable for about 1 minute after the wake. Then all of the
sudden all of my USB devices lost power completely, my hard drives
stopped spinning and the system was at a stand still. Reading into the
log files I find that the last thing the system did before it died. It
was in the process of a "dhcp4 change". I would also like to mention I
was running 3 VNC server sessions at the same time, but none of the
viewers were active. I also confirmed that the power supply is defiantly
not the reason its a 1000 watt platinum PSU that is under a year old and
the system was usable again after a reboot.

I am using Kernel version 4.11.7 built from the mainline with the Ubuntu
configuration. There were no custom modules loaded (nothing outside of
the 16.04.2 repo)

here is the log /var/log/syslog

[Bug 1547927] Re: LDAP_OPT_X_TLS_REQUIRE_CERT handling differences between ldaps:// and STARTTLS

2017-07-28 Thread Ryan Tandy
Hi Martin,

I'm trying to reproduce the bug you reported, in order to determine
whether Maciej's patch fixed it or not.

However, a simple C program making the following calls:

ldap_set_option(NULL, LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION, &protocol_version);
ldap_initialize(&ld, "ldaps://");
ldap_set_option(ld, LDAP_OPT_X_TLS_REQUIRE_CERT, &reqcert);
ldap_simple_bind_s(ld, NULL, NULL);

ldap_initialize(&ld, "ldap://";);
ldap_set_option(ld, LDAP_OPT_X_TLS_REQUIRE_CERT, &reqcert);
ldap_start_tls_s(ld, NULL, NULL);

appears to behave as expected for me.

Could you please post the program code (any language is fine) that you
used to demonstrate the bug? Thanks!

[Bug 1690980] Re: unattended-upgrades does not block shutdown of system, as it is designed to

2017-07-28 Thread Balint Reczey
@Julian, @Michael: I think the timeout of 900 seconds should be increased to
1800 seconds and the 10 min delay in u-u-s should also be bumped to 25min.
Ethan experienced updates taking ~10 minutes over wifi. I believe updates will
keep accumulating and are getting bigger, thus letting u-u run for 30 minutes
before killing it seems to be a reasonable change to make u-u more future-proof.

2017-07-28 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Yes, but could you file a bug or whatever upstream?

Also, you should probably talk to the Desktop team about your concerns
before asking the Archive Admins to demote a Desktop package.

[Bug 1707312] Re: reload does not shut down lighttpd gracefully

2017-07-28 Thread Vasya Pupkin
After reading man start-stop-daemon I found the problem.

"... schedule is a list of at least two items separated by slashes (/);
each item may be -signal-number or [-]signal-name, which means to send
that signal, or timeout, which means to wait that many seconds for
processes to exit ..."

"If a schedule is specified, then any signal specified with --signal is
ignored"

So a solution would be to remove "--signal INT" and change "--
retry=TERM/60/KILL/5" to "--retry=INT/60/KILL/5".

On my system it works as expected after these changes.

[Bug 1706471] Re: please demote exiv2 to universe

2017-07-28 Thread Seth Arnold
I'm not saying it's not useful. The point is that the library that we're
using for Exif metadata is unsuited for use on a modern desktop operating
system or server connected to the Internet.

The maintainer doesn't want to put in the work to take it from a fun
hobby to a production-grade tool. I can understand that, and I'm even
sympathetic that it was used more widely than it should have been. That's
not his fault.

But we have millions of users who expect us to protect them against
drive-by downloads that own their desktops and server administrators
who expect to use the tools we provide to build safe services for their
users in turn.

Ideally shotwell would be able to degrade service gracefully until someone
cares enough to write a safe Exif library. Less ideal would be to demote
shotwell until this is addressed.

Thanks

We discussed the test with Brian, and ending in inconsistent states can
still occur when running u-u manually/via cron.

In those cases the apt fix does not protect dpkg from being terminated early.
When running u-u manually or via cron it is recommended to use workaround 3.

[Bug 1707313] [NEW] Dropbox indicator remains broken on non-Unity environments, in spite of "fix"

2017-07-28 Thread Robin
Public bug reported:

The Dropbox indicator is broken with Desktop environments that are not
unity. The fix attempted that is associated with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-dropbox/+bug/1559249
does not resolve the problem on non-Unity environments.

With Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, in Gnome Flashback, Dropbox indicator is expected
to display various options and information when selected. Instead, it
displays a narrow black column with no text.

(With Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, the indicator applet in Gnome Flashback behaves
as expected.)

2017-07-28 Thread Charlie Luna
ok, I'm must confess that I didn't download the daily build for just
ubuntu 17.10. that's what i've been testing lately and I downloaded the
ubuntu gnome daily build 17.10 (for today 2017-07-28) which is weird
because i didn't think anything was going to be separately for gnome
except change ubuntu desktop to gnome. oh well. i got the iso i wanted
and everything is back to normal, or as normal as can be for daily build
testing. lol

shotwell doesn't build without libgexiv2-dev.

I assume you're aware that showing Exif information is very useful for a
photo app. Are there any other libraries you suggest instead of exiv2?

Please discuss your concerns with the shotwell and gexiv2 maintainer - I
believe they are the same person. :)

[Bug 1700657] Re: Touchpad not detected in Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB

2017-07-28 Thread Björn Dahlgren
I also tried adding this line:

alias usb:v06CBp00081*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*in* synaptics_usb

to a file: /etc/modprobe.d/local-aliases.conf

I formatted the line in analogy to lines with usb:v06CB in
/lib/modules/4.13.0-999-generic/modules.alias

/sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices still show "Driver=(none)" for the usb
device.

[Bug 1707309] [NEW] VLC fails when subtitles are completly out of sync

2017-07-28 Thread Martin Bodin
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce: choose -70,000s for the value of the subtitles’s delay (they
were really out of sync) and restart the video from the beginning.
Instead of playing normally, VLC seems to freeze.
In my case, this then lead to a crash during apport-bug was looking for issues.

I don’t know whether it is related, but when using the “g” and “h” keys
to set the subtitles delay, the delay stops being displayed when the
delay become large (more than a minute in my case).

Best regards.

[Bug 1700373] Re: intel-microcode is out of date, version 20170707 fixes errata on 6th and 7th generation platforms

2017-07-28 Thread Adrien Beau
Another test, this time on a NUC with a Pentium N3700 Braswell CPU under
Xenial.

$ uname -a
Linux 4.10.0-28-generic #32~16.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 20 10:19:48 UTC 2017
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
(...)vendor_id   : GenuineIntel
cpu family  : 6
model   : 76
model name  : Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU  N3700  @ 1.60GHz
stepping: 3
microcode   : 0x363
(...)

Before installing the intel-microcode package I had:

kernel: microcode: sig=0x406c3, pf=0x1, revision=0x363
kernel: microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.

After installing the 3.20151106.1 package, nothing changed.
After installing the 3.20170707.1~ubuntu16.04.0 package, nothing changed.

This is as expected, since this CPU is not affected by the problem, and
(as far as I know) has no recent microcode update.

The new package (and the update from the old to the new) works fine on
this machine.

[Bug 1702792] Re: Installation on ppc64le stuck when trying to setup LVM

2017-07-28 Thread Steve Langasek
This is certainly a bug, but it is user error to configure an LVM volume
as the prep partition; the prep partition must be a disk partition
visible from firmware.

I believe this bug does not occur when using guided partitioning.

[Bug 1707306] [NEW] flashrom builds without libftdi because pkg-config command isn't a build-dep

2017-07-28 Thread Helmut Kreft
Public bug reported:

Problem:

flashrom specifies libftdi1-dev as a build dependency. The build process
is unable to detect the presence of this library without the pkg-config
command being installed. This is evidenced in the build_details.txt file
created during the build process:

...
exec: export LC_ALL=C ; { [ -n "" ] && export PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR="" ; pkg-config
--libs libftdi1 || pkg-config --libs libftdi || printf "%s" "-lftdi -lusb" ; }
/bin/sh: 1: pkg-config: not found
/bin/sh: 1: pkg-config: not found
...

Hence flashrom will be built without support for the ft2232_spi class of
programmers:
$ flashrom --help
flashrom v0.9.9-rc1-r1942 on Linux 4.4.0-87-generic (x86_64)
...
 -p | --programmer [:] specify the programmer device. One of
internal, dummy, nic3com, nicrealtek, gfxnvidia, drkaiser, satasii, atavia,
it8212, serprog, buspirate_spi, dediprog, rayer_spi, pony_spi, nicintel,
nicintel_spi, nicintel_eeprom, ogp_spi, satamv, linux_spi, pickit2_spi,
ch341a_spi.
...

When installing pkg-config the support for ft2232_spi is included:
$ ./flashrom --help
flashrom v0.9.9-rc1-r1942 on Linux 4.4.0-87-generic (x86_64)
...
 -p | --programmer [:] specify the programmer device. One of
internal, dummy, nic3com, nicrealtek, gfxnvidia, drkaiser, satasii, atavia,
it8212, ft2232_spi, serprog, buspirate_spi, dediprog, rayer_spi, pony_spi,
nicintel, nicintel_spi, nicintel_eeprom, ogp_spi, satamv, linux_spi,
usbblaster_spi, pickit2_spi, ch341a_spi.
...

Solution:
Include pkg-config as a build dependency
