[Bug 1717442] [NEW] VNC auto port allocation affected by daemon state

2017-09-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

It seems that a daemon restart can cause an issue in the vnc port
allocation.

Steps to reproduce:
1. start three guests with a vnc console like

2. check they should have ports like this:
   $ netstat -eeapn  | grep ':59'
127.0.0.1:5900, 127.0.0.1:5901, 127.0.0.1:5902
3. now remove the "middle" one which usually is the second guest you started.
   You should now no mire have 127.0.0.1:5901 bound
[4.] If you'd restart the middle guest now it would get 5901 again and all
would be fine, just remember to stop it to leae the gap for the next step
5. Restart libvirt daemon to let it "forget" any state
   $ systemctl restart libvirtd
6. Start the "middle" guest now, it fails:
   error: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor:
2017-09-15T06:24:12.174629Z qemu-system-x86_64: -vnc 127.0.0.1:0: Failed to
start VNC server: Failed to listen on socket: Address already in use

It is passing arg "-vnc 127.0.0.1:0" which is already used.

To make it more confusing even if I set an explicit port like:

Thet is still passes "-vnc 127.0.0.1:0" and fails.

I have the feeling to have seen this in the past, but can't remember details.
I need to find the fix that I think exists already.

I configured the proposed source. Just double check with you that the
fix is in kernel linux-image-generic-4.4.0.96.101? And I only need to
install this proposed kernel version? Thanks!

[Bug 1680386] Re: virt-aa-helper to learn about VF devspec paths

2017-09-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
in this cae guest message are not important.
Also I already said that it is non fatal - so yes it works, still it is wrong.

Either fix or remove the code whatever is more appropriate.
Please check the code that I referred to in qemu.

hw/ppc/spapr_pci.c:775
 774 /* Construct and read from host device tree the loc-code */

 775 path = g_strdup_printf("/proc/device-tree%s/ibm,loc-code", buf);

 776 g_free(buf);

I'm rather convinced there should be an extra "/" in there.

[Bug 1717176] Re: Fail to install or commission wichita (power 8)

2017-09-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
roflcopter :-)

I debugged two maas issues at once: one on arm and one on power8.
I just looked at the wrong one :-)
Remove the quotes - this one here just works.

Eventually we have to wait until the new curtin gets released, but that is
already tracked.
Marking this invalid.

Thanks everybody involved.

[Bug 1717176] Re: Fail to install or commission wichita (power 8)

2017-09-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
With those two changes in place things "work".
- you already commissioned - ok
- I was able to install wichita - ok

I put "work" in quotes as maas officially considers it failed deployment.
Maybe some timeouts make it think so, but it worked and I can use the system.

Were there any past configs we lost to kind of be a bit patient with it?
@Maas team any recommendations?

[Bug 1717038] Re: name resolution fails in-target

2017-09-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Ah. I was using 'chroot /target ping www.google.com', not 'in-target'
since 'in-target' takes a lock and doesn't allow you to run it while
other commands are installing.

If I wait until the target setup has finished and then run 'in-target
ping www.google.com', I also see this name resolution failure.

It turns out that 'in-target' mounts a tmpfs on /run each time that it's
called, and unmounts it when it's done. But the stub resolv.conf target
is in the /run directory on the target filesystem, *not* on the tmpfs.

To fix this, we need:
 - /run to be mounted before packages start writing to it
 - /run to persist for the duration of the install process, so that files like
/run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf don't disappear after they've been set up.

Artful was fixed in systemd 234-2ubuntu2 - Ignore failures to set Nice
priority on services in containers.

---
systemd (234-2ubuntu2) artful; urgency=medium

  * Ignore failures to set Nice priority on services in containers.
  * Disable execute test on armhf.
  * units: set ConditionVirtualization=!private-users on journald audit socket.
It fails to start in unprivileged containers.
  * boot-smoke: refactor ADT test.
Wait for system to settle down and get to either running or degraded state,
then collect all metrics, and exit with an error if any of the tests failed.

[Bug 1550444] Re: Parole media player segfaults when seeking forward in a video file

2017-09-14 Thread Fixitman Arizona
Seems fixed in later version 0.9.1
I installed on Xubuntu 16.04.3 32-bit via .deb download and software center
(because I forgot I had
gdebi package manager)
You can install from links on following page OR ppa
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntuhandbook1/apps/ubuntu/pool/main/p/parole/?C=M;O=A

for Xubuntu or Ubuntu 16.10 or 17.04 version 0.9.2 is also available
Parole 0.9.2 requires GTK >= 3.20 Ubuntu 16.04 won’t be able to update to this
release with the default GTK+3 libraries.

spend time on this at the rally.

In saying that, it is occurring in 3.22, which uses the new auth code.

2017-09-14 Thread Robert Ancell
My guess is this might be being caused by our Ubuntu One dialog that is
run from inside our plugin. That would fit Richard's guess that we are
using cairo from the non-main thread (i.e. using the plugin thread).

The solution to that would be to backport the auth code into 3.20.

Crash reports are uploaded at some time after they happened. So a crash
file might sit on disk until a later date when you log in to MATE, and
then the upload of older crash reports might happen.

[Bug 1717228] Re: Dbus error message when gnome-software runs under unity7

2017-09-14 Thread Robert Ancell
This is shell extensions plugin. It's supposed to handle not running
under GNOME Shell but it looks like a recent change to show the errors
in toasts is exposing this when it should be ignored.

Does the scrambling problem stop after booting has completed? Can you
see the login screen OK?

Also, please run 'lspci -k' and attach the output here.

Subject: YE CARS DOOD

Really? I found it okay. Way better than McRitchie's Treetop Walk
route.

I walked from Vivo to Kent Ridge MRT, and the stairs ain't too bad
compared to McRitchie (walked from Upper Thomson, going to
TreeTopWalk, looping back toward Venus Drive). The only tiring part
was really the climb up Mt Faber, the stairs were kinda steep.
