[Bug 1719500] Re: 17.10 Black screen pre and post login on virtualbox
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1719500/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1719500] [NEW] 17.10 Black screen pre and post login on virtualbox
Public bug reported: I have been testing the daily builds from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/HEADER.html on virtualbox (https://www.virtualbox.org/) in a windows host. I originally installed it a few weeks ago, and would do an apt update and apt upgrade every day to get the latest changes. Then when I did an upgrade about a week ago, I ran into these issues. I tried downloading the new image every day since (although it looks like that image has not changed in the past week or so anyhow), and it installs fine, I can log in fine, but once I do the apt update and reboot, I get a black screen where I should see the login. Steps I made to replicate (can someone else verify the same thing happens?): - Install virtual box 5.1.28 - Create a new vm (4GB ram, 10GB hdd) - Insert and install the image daily 17.10 image (from link above) - Boot to login screen, log in and load to desktop - Do a sudo apt update and a sudo apt upgrade - At this point it sometimes comes up with the prompt to reboot, either way, reboot - You will find a black screen when you should see the login screen (if you move your mouse over or click you can see random white pixels around) - Before moving the mouse or pressing any keys, press enter, enter password, press enter again (as you would do normally to log in) - For a second the console screen (sometimes purple background, sometimes black background) shows some feedback - Once booted into desktop, all is black again (with random white pixels sometimes) I do not have a PC available at the moment to test on, and haven't had a chance to test in a vm with a Ubuntu host (or any other host). [Bug 1532537] Re: Impossible to choose language on help.ubuntu.com
@JI That's true. I agree it goes counter to modern standards. Maybe "standards" is an exaggeration but at least modern "expectations". I think the current design is due to how translations work. In principle, these docs can be presented in any human language. Having a selector for dozens of languages would also be odd. If we only consider languages that have received significant translations (say 75% translated) then it should feasible, but such a solution would require monitoring and manual adjustments. See https://translations.launchpad.net/serverguide and sort by Status (green is translated). Another solution would be to always show it in English and have a button for "show in your browser's default language". The simplest would be to ditch translations and just have it in English. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532537 Title: Impossible to choose language on help.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/help.ubuntu.com/+bug/1532537/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1719471] [NEW] ptrace doesnt't trigger/work as expected
Public bug reported: Hi, we looked into a discussion [1] which was triggered by [2]. For Ubunutu all these features existed for quite a while, so since [3] we had [4]. So I was looking into dropping [4] later on in favor of the fix in [1]. But while doing so I was puzzles why things even work. I discussed with jjohansen and ptrace rules should have a traced and trace "end" of the rule. Our old change was not as restrictive as the better change now suggested, but it had both ends. While quickly trying to check on this we found that it actually works with just one side of the rules, but it shouldn't. Jjohansen said he will look into that and get back to us, this bug is to allow everybody involved to track this. [Bug 1719462] [NEW] [Translation] "Left" and "Right" must be translated differently in different contexts
Public bug reported: In 17.10 artful in GNOME Control Center, there are two places where words "Left" and "Right" are encountered: the Mouse settings and the Dock settings. Both of the words have only one item to translate in Rosetta with indication that they are located in two different places in the sources: "Located in ../panels/mouse/gnome-mouse-properties.ui.h:4 ../panels/ubuntu/cc-ubuntu-panel.c:417" "Located in ../panels/mouse/gnome-mouse-properties.ui.h:5 ../panels/ubuntu/cc-ubuntu-panel.c:419" When translating in Russian, the words "Left" and "Right" must be translated differently in these two places. One translation for both contexts leads to inconsistent and ridiculous result. I can guess that this is also valid for some other languages, not only Russian. Please make two independent translations in Rosetta for "Left" and "Right" in these two different contexts. ** Affects: ubuntu-translations Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: artful ** Also affects: ubuntu-translations Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1719462 Title: [Translation] "Left" and "Right" must be translated differently in different contexts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+bug/1719462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1716092] Re: Enabling Auto switching streams on new active output causes pulseaudio to crash
Since this is crash however... --- Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 1707312] Re: reload does not shut down lighttpd gracefully
The analysis is correct and easy to reproduce. Just keep a connection open to the server and issue the reload. Without the fix, the connection is terminated immediately.
