[Bug 1721135] [NEW] Z LPAR 17.10 install: Failed to start Login Service messages on first boot after installation
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Installation initiated from the HMC using 'Recovery --> Reload from Removable Media or Server' to select the FTP server and installer. The menu selection 'Daily --> Operating system messages' is then used to drive the installation until prompted to log in over ssh to complete the installation. Once installation completed and the system booted for the first time, 'Failed to start Login Service' messages were perpetually printed to the console. See attached logs. After a second reboot the failure was no longer present. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Canonical Foundations Team (canonical-foundations) Status: New ** Tags: s390x -- Z LPAR 17.10 install: Failed to start Login Service messages on first boot after installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721135 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1721182] [NEW] restart on shutdown or suspension

After a fresh ubuntu installation the power off command didn't worked as intended, neither the suspension function, neither the shutdown command via terminal. [Bug 1707831] Re: [enhancement] Replace the "Activities" label with the Ubuntu icon/logo/glyph
I respect Jeremy's (and other Ubuntu devs') positions that the GNOME documentation refers to the "Activities" text button for the Overview, and I think that can be helpful to keep it that way IF the users are going to go to the GNOME documentation, and not search on Ubuntu's forums, social media, community website, Askubuntu.com, etc. I'd probably vote that they're going to go for the latter, searching anything with the word "Ubuntu" Online, first, since Ubuntu is the distro they're using. New users might not even realize that the desktop is developed - primarily - by a different organization, entirely. If that's the case, why would they search for anything other than "Ubuntu help". Back in June '17 I ran a poll on the Ubuntu G+ community, asking if users preferred the Ubuntu logo in the top-left or the "Activities" text. 169 members voted, and 87% were in favor of using the Ubuntu logo, with only 13% in favor of keeping the "Activities" text (here's the poll so you can see the comments, too: https://plus.google.com/+JesseDuBordFilms/posts/LEjy6zxmNw3). I'd personally be in favor of replacing the "Activities" text for the Ubuntu logo in the Ubuntu-modified GNOME shell. Reasons being: (1) Brand recognition. Will better allow users and surveyors to identify Ubuntu on a PC they're passing by in the airport, coffee shop, etc. (2) WAY less ambiguous (I have a hard time trying to understand why they used "Activities" for the English word -- can't imagine how it translates in other languages). Plasma tried using "Activities" as well, which I think is equally ambiguous. At least if users see that it's a symbol, they could click on it, see it's behavior, and designate it whatever they want. I feel that makes it way easier for the user to adopt the desktop as their own if they can even define it better on their terms, you know? I do think Jeremy is right, though, that some users might not instinctively feel it's a button. The Antergos guys did a good job of putting the background in Blue for the "Activities" text on their theme of the GNOME shell. Maybe doing something like having the background of the Activities button the Ubuntu orange with the three white people aligned in the center of the button? I personally think that would look really cool, IMHO. (3) With the Ubuntu-modifications to the GNOME shell, anyways, would it really be a deal-breaker with the GNOME documentation for it to fit to be modified a little more to fit Ubuntu's needs? I think it's more than fair for a brand to be recognized, and - not saying this in any way as criticism - but I imagine even some of the Ubuntu changes might differ than the GNOME documentation for the vanilla shell? Would it then be such a big deal to have something a little different? Again, no criticism intended at all, just bringing it to the table. (4) With Ubuntu already offering a vanilla shell experience with the simple install of a package (you guys rock for that, by the way), would it really be such a bad thing for Ubuntu to make "their version" of the shell their own? You're offering both, after all. Maybe even a disclaimer somewhere might be all you need that says, "The default desktop in this version of Ubuntu uses a modified version of the GNOME desktop. Behavior may differ slightly from how the GNOME documentation depicts", something like that. Alright, that was already a mouthful. Appreciate you all taking the time to read, and hope this comment helps in deciding how to proceed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1707831 Title: [enhancement] Replace the "Activities" label with the Ubuntu icon/logo/glyph To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1707831/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Currently, we are working on the code that > will validate/process the authenticated variable updates. We will > probably start testing it by the end of this year. The current plan is to deliver this KEK as a certificate via a secure in-person channel to George Wilson. I assume once delivered, if you need this in ESL form for loading that IBM can perform this transformation (since the only way to turn it into a signed ESL would be via the PK, which we don't have). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1696154 Title: [17.10 FEAT] Sign POWER host/NV kernels To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1696154/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Indeed and I agree but the bug when running on Perl v5.26 will need to be resolved first, by either a patch in the package or (preferably) a new upstream version that can handle running on that version of Perl. See also Debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=869994 Also; given a PPA to use, a backport of v3.08 or even of v3.25 could be made available for trusty at least for testing purposes. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #869994 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=869994 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1281329 Title: Sync up 14.04 release with latest avaiable version from project To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sql-ledger/+bug/1281329/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That will be changing at some point, possibly, due to infrastructure changes at Debian. There is also this packaging repository at GitHub, mirrored from the Debian one, where there is a branch for packaging v3.2.5: https://github.com/rocasa/pkg-sql-ledger And regarding the missing sourse files issue itself; other applications use something like that same file, so need to see how they handle it. > If you are interested I completed some language packs for this > application as well and I quite enjoy using SQL Ledger. [Bug 1717951] Re: UIFe: Drop imagemagick-display from the default install
Here's a patch for ubuntu-settings to hide the Display app from the Ubuntu and Ubuntu on Xorg desktops. This is similar to what Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu MATE and Ubuntu GNOME already do. Alternatively, we could just modify Ubuntu's imagemagick to either not install the .desktop or set NoDisplay=true there. [Bug 1720901] Re: VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected artful wayland-session ** Description changed: Ubuntu version: 17.10 (most recent updates as of October 3rd) vlc version: 2.2.6-6 Whan I expect to happen: When playing a video in vlc and switching to fullscreen mode everything should work fine. Also when changing to a different position of a movie in fullscreen I expect the player to just switch to that position. What actually happens: It seems to depend a little on the file type of the video, mostly I get problems when going to fullscreen mode and then switching to a different position with the playback position bar. With some videos it was even enough to just open the fullscreen mode. The video freezes just displaying a frame while the audio keeps playing. The computer does not react any more to mouse or keyboard input, I have to perform a hard reboot. - This problem only appears under the Wayland session, in the Xorg session - everything works fine as expected. + This problem only appears under the Wayland session, in the Xorg session everything works fine as expected. + --- + ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu2 + Architecture: amd64 + CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 + EcryptfsInUse: Yes + InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-09-30 (2 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Alpha amd64 (20170926) + Package: vlc 2.2.6-6 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-12.13-generic 4.13.3 + Tags: artful wayland-session + Uname: Linux 4.13.0-12-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo vboxusers + _MarkForUpload: True ** Attachment added: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720901/+attachment/4960835/+files/Dependencies.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720901 Title: VLC under Wayland causes system freezes in fullscreen mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vlc/+bug/1720901/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1720250] Re: im-config configuration ignored with gdm3
As Iain suggested on IRC https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2017/10/03/%23ubuntu-devel.html#t15:52 I checked out what the processes looked like for the two attempts at a solution, and attached a couple of files with my observations. Well, not sure what I should look for, to be honest, but that exercise inspired me to a possible solution: Since gdm3 always starts ibus-daemon anyway, I added a condition to /usr/share/im-config/data/21_ibus.rc so im-config does not start ibus-daemon if gdm3 is the DM. That seems to fix it. So I have uploaded yet another variant to the PPA. https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/im-config -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720250 Title: im-config configuration ignored with gdm3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1720250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
