[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2017-11-03 Thread Hans Schwimmbeck
I forgot to mention that also needed is something like
/etc/udev/rules.d/59-local.rules.
In my upgraded installation it has not changed since 16.04 and looks like this:
---
# Brother MFC-J220
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0259", MODE="0664",
GROUP="scanner", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

---

Of course 'idProduct' has to match the local scanner model, 'lsusb' and
'sane-find-scanner' are your friends.

[Bug 1700827] Re: [MIR] pcp package

2017-11-03 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Frank, Ken, and Nathan,

Very nice work.

I'm impressed with the changes I see in the PCP repository. The changes
to address my feedback are thorough and thoughtful, and unrelated
changes were of universal high-quality. (I especially enjoyed the hanoi
and chains test loads!)

Eric, security team ACK for promoting pcp version 3.12.2 or any newer
version to main in Ubuntu.

Many thanks to everyone.

just remove virtualbox for now. This is likely the fault of virtualbox
not supporting this kernel, but figured I'd make it known.

[Bug 1569995] Re: ACPI support Intel Cherry Trail

2017-11-03 Thread Justin
Update: I have fully tested on the latest release of Ubuntu (17.10)

It seems there has been some improvement. I can now suspend and shutdown
without a problem and the battery is recognized!

Stability is not quite what it should be though - sometimes gnome
becomes unresponsive and crashes and when I press the power button to
resume from standby it turns on only to go back to sleep right away.

The audio card seems to randomly disappear too. I have to open a
terminal and use Alsa to manually select and turn up the audio.

The battery indicator is good, but this still needs work.

[Bug 1730028] [NEW] logspam about Duplicate line for path "/var/log"

2017-11-03 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Similar to bug 1484027, but that's marked 'Fix released', so something
must have regressed in the meantime.

$ journalctl | grep "Duplicate line" | wc -l
58

$ grep "/var/log " /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/*
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/00rsyslog.conf:# Override systemd's default
tmpfiles.d/var.conf to make /var/log writable by
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/00rsyslog.conf:d /var/log 0775 root syslog -
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/var.conf:d /var/log 0755 - - -

Ideally I'd see at most one line about this in my logs.

Let clients request heartbeats during SLO PUTs

An SLO PUT requires that we HEAD every referenced object; as a result, it
can be a very time-intensive operation. This makes it difficult as a
client to differentiate between a proxy-server that's still doing work and
one that's crashed but left the socket open.

Now, clients can opt-in to receiving heartbeats during long-running PUTs
by including the query parameter

heartbeat=on

With heartbeating turned on, the proxy will start its response immediately
with 202 Accepted then send a single whitespace character periodically
until the request completes. At that point, a final summary chunk will be
sent which includes a "Response Status" key indicating success or failure
and (if successful) an "Etag" key indicating the Etag of the resulting SLO.

This mechanism is very similar to the way bulk extractions and deletions
work, and even the way SLO behaves for ?multipart-manifest=delete requests.

Note that this is opt-in: this prevents us from sending the 202 response
to existing clients that may mis-interpret it as an immediate indication
of success.

Use check_drive consistently

We added check_drive to the account/container servers to unify how all
the storage wsgi servers treat device dirs/mounts. Thus pushes that
unification down into the consistency engine.

Drive-by:
 * use FakeLogger less
 * clean up some repeititon in probe utility for device re-"mounting"

Make xml responses less insane

Looking at bulk extractions:

   $ tar c *.py | curl http://saio:8090/v1/AUTH_test/c?extract-archive=tar \
  -H accept:application/xml -T -

   2

   201 Created

Or SLO upload failures:

   $ curl http://saio:8090/v1/AUTH_test/c/slo?multipart-manifest=put -X PUT
\
  -d '[{"path": "not/found"}]' -H accept:application/xml

   not/found404 Not
Found

Why ? Makes no sense.

Drive-by: stop being so quadratic.

Doc uses alias instead of aliases

The overview_policies doc makes reference to an `alias` option when in
fact the option is `aliases`.
The sample storage policy snippet is correct, it's just incorrect when

Return 404 on a GET if tombstone is newer

Currently the proxy keeps iterating through
the connections in hope of finding a success even
if it already has found a tombstone (404).

This change changes the code a little bit to compare
the timestamp of a 200 and a 404, if the tombstone is
newer, then it should be returned, instead of returning
a stale 200.

[Bug 1725560] Re: OVMF UEFI firmware causes Windows 10 to not boot after upgrade

2017-11-03 Thread dann frazier
To be clear, 0~20170911.5dfba97c-1ubuntu0.1 is the artful-proposed version.
0~20170911.5dfba97c-1 is the artful release version:
  See: http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/edk2

The one with "the ubuntu0.1" suffix is the one with the fix.
Can you (re-?)confirm that you tested with 0~20170911.5dfba97c-1ubuntu0.1 ?

[Bug 1723862] Re: PPC64: Use andis instead of lis/and is absent in OpenJDK 8

2017-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package openjdk-8 - 8u151-b12-1

---
openjdk-8 (8u151-b12-1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Update to 8u151-b12. Hotspot 8u144-b01 for aarch32 with 8u151 hotspot
patches.

  [ Tiago Stürmer Daitx ]
  * Security patches:
- CVE-2017-10274, S8169026: Handle smartcard clean up better. If a
  CardImpl can be recovered via finalization, then separate instances
  pointing to the same device can be created.
- CVE-2017-10281, S8174109: Better queuing priorities. PriorityQueue's
  readObject allocates an array based on data in the stream which could
  cause an OOM.
- CVE-2017-10285, S8174966: Unreferenced references. RMI's Unreferenced
  thread can be used as the root of a Trusted Method Chain.
- CVE-2017-10295, S8176751: Better URL connections. On Ubuntu (and
  possibly other Linux flavors) CR-NL in the host field are ignored and
  can be used to inject headers in an HTTP request stream.
- CVE-2017-10388, S8178794: Correct Kerberos ticket grants. Kerberos
  implementations can incorrectly take information from the unencrypted
  portion of the ticket from the KDC. This can lead to an MITM attack
  impersonating Kerberos services.
- CVE-2017-10346, S8180711: Better alignment of special invocations. A
  missing load constraint for some invokespecial cases can allow invoking
  a method from an unrelated class.
- CVE-2017-10350, S8181100: Better Base Exceptions. An array is allocated
  based on data in the serial stream without a limit onthe size.
- CVE-2017-10347, S8181323: Better timezone processing. An array is
  allocated based on data in the serial stream without a limit on the
  size.
- CVE-2017-10349, S8181327: Better Node predications. An array is
  allocated based on data in the serial stream without a limit onthe size.
- CVE-2017-10345, S8181370: Better keystore handling. A malicious
  serialized object in a keystore can cause a DoS when using keytool.
- CVE-2017-10348, S8181432: Better processing of unresolved permissions.
  An array is allocated based on data in the serial stream without a limit
  onthe size.
- CVE-2017-10357, S8181597: Process Proxy presentation. A malicious
  serialized stream could cause an OOM due to lack on checking on the
  number of interfaces read from the stream for a Proxy.
- CVE-2017-10355, S8181612: More stable connection processing. If an
  attack can cause an application to open a connection to a malicious FTP
  server (e.g., via XML), then a thread can be tied up indefinitely in
  accept(2).
- CVE-2017-10356, S8181692: Update storage implementations. JKS and JCEKS
  keystores should be retired from common use in favor of more modern
  keystore protections.
- CVE-2016-10165, S8183028: Improve CMS header processing. Missing bounds
  check could lead to leaked memory contents.
- CVE-2016-9841, S8184682: Upgrade compression library. There were four
  off by one errors found in the zlib library. Two of them are long typed
  which could lead to RCE.
  * debian/rules:
- openjdk8 now ships limited and unlimited policy.jar files (S8157561)
  into their own directories under jre/lib/security/policy.
  * debian/rules, d/p/sec-webrev-8u151-hotspot-8179084.patch,

[Bug 1723893] Re: PPC64: Use cmpldi instead of li/cmpld is absent in OpenJDK 8

2017-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package openjdk-8 - 8u151-b12-1

---
openjdk-8 (8u151-b12-1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Update to 8u151-b12. Hotspot 8u144-b01 for aarch32 with 8u151 hotspot
patches.

  [ Tiago Stürmer Daitx ]
  * Security patches:
  * debian/rules:
- openjdk8 now ships limited and unlimited policy.jar files (S8157561)
  into their own directories under jre/lib/security/policy.
  * debian/rules, d/p/sec-webrev-8u151-hotspot-8179084.patch,
d/p/sec-webrev-8u151-hotspot-8180711.patch: Apply hotspot security updates
to both aarch32 and aarch64.
  * d/p/gcc6.diff, d/p/aarch64.diff, d/p/aarch32.diff, d/p/m68k-support.diff,
d/p/system-libjpeg.diff: Remove hunks related to the generated configure
file generated during the build.
  * d/p/hotspot-ppc64el-S8168318-cmpldi.patch: Use cmpldi instead of li/cmpld.
LP: #1723893.
  * d/p/hotspot-ppc64el-S8170328-andis.patch: Use andis instead of lis/and.

[Bug 1725560] Re: OVMF UEFI firmware causes Windows 10 to not boot after upgrade

2017-11-03 Thread Krupp
I tested it in the comment above. I guess what I was trying to show is
that I expected version 0~20170911.5dfba97c-1 to be in the proposed
repository, but by the time I got to test it, it came from the main
repository. I verified that version 0~20170911.5dfba97c-1 does not work
and have gone back to using the upstream version.

Oh, I guess this bug probably isn't needed since there aren't Ubuntu-
specific changes and it will be removed from Debian unstable soon but
it's too late: I already filed the bug.

[Bug 1729993] [NEW] proc umounts on nfsroot client when nfs server is heavily loaded

2017-11-03 Thread Carl Miller
Public bug reported:

We've got a cluster of diskless compute nodes that we use for highly
CPU-intensive tasks. To keep them minimal, they're headless and
diskless, and they PXE-boot and run NFS-root from a central server. We
recently upgraded the PXE-boot kernel for these nodes to an Ubuntu 16.04
series kernel. Specifically, uname -a on the nodes returns:

Linux fluorine 4.4.0-83-generic #106-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 26 17:54:43 UTC
2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

After the upgrade, we started noticing that anytime the NFS link got
heavily loaded, and the NFS server started getting bogged down trying to
keep up with the requests, the diskless clients would spontaneously
unmount their /proc filesystem. It sounds an awful lot like this
report:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1010040-start-0.html

...the fix for which was supposedly integrated into the mainline kernel
as of 3.19.2. But we never saw this issue until just recently, right
after upgrading to 4.4.0. Did the patch that fixed this in 3.19 get
somehow reverted in 4.4? Or was a new trigger for this bug somehow
introduced?
