[Bug 1736042] Re: qemu-system-x86_64 does not boot image reliably
Please always use the latest version of QEMU (currently v2.10, soon v2.11) when reporting bugs to the upstream QEMU project - we don't support old versions like v2.5 any more. So I guess you wanted to report a bug agains v2.5 in Ubuntu instead and I changed the target of this bug accordingly. ** Project changed: qemu => qemu (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736042 Title: qemu-system-x86_64 does not boot image reliably To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1736042/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1736042] [NEW] qemu-system-x86_64 does not boot image reliably
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Booting image as root user with following command works randomly. ./qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -curses -smp cpus=4 -m 8192 /root/ructfe2917_g.qcow2 Most of the time it ends up on "800x600 Graphic mode"(been stuck there even for 4 hours before killed), but 1 out of ~20 it boots image correctly(and instantly). This is visible in v2.5.0 build from sources, v2.5.0 from Ubuntu Xenial and v2.1.2 from Debian Jessie. The image in question was converted from vmdk using: qemu-img convert -O qcow2 file.vmdk file.qcow2 The image contains Ubuntu with grub. I can provide debug logs, but will need guidance how to enable them(and what logs are necessary). As a side note, it seems that booting is more certain after connecting(or mounting) partition using qemu-nbd/mount. ** Affects: qemu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- qemu-system-x86_64 does not boot image reliably https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1735976] Re: Problem with secondary monitor and DVD player
Thanks for connecting my question https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/661125 to this bug. I do agree that there seems to be a connection. If you ask for the package, I don't know if there is a "boot package", but the problem is at boot time. In my case I finally figured out where the audio clicks come from. It turns out that the boot process is turning off and on the monitor itself. I see the monitor LED go off, and then there is an audio click. Then it goes back on again. It will click like this on the order of 10+ times during the boot process. The problem began with 17.10. It seems connected to the change from Unity to Gnome. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735976 Title: Problem with secondary monitor and DVD player To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1735976/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 911591] Re: gnome-shell crashes when resizing OpenGL window
@dino99 Happy to open a new bug report on this, as it still appears to be an issue in latest Ubuntu 17.10. Usually when reporting bugs, I opt to prefer adding information to an existing bug report that I have high confidence describes the problem I am seeing. I believe this helps to reduce creating many duplicates and to focus community effort on resolving the main underlying problem rather than bug report management overhead from many duplicates or "me too" comments with no helpful debug info. If this is not preferred on this project, or for some reason doesn't fit the developer bug triage process here, that's fine. I'm happy to add information upstream or in another LaunchPad bug. Back to this problem: As it is a segfault reported in upstream gnome-shell which has something to do with OpenGL + resize behavior, I don't believe borked settings are the issue, nothing I've seen yet points towards that, although it'd be nice if the problem could be resolved by a config change instead of code change. This system never had any gnome-shell installed because Unity was there instead. Therefore, no pre-existing gnome-shell configuration can be hanging around. I've posted to upstream bug, but some info was here. To clarify: I do not have an Nvidia optimus nor do I use noveau, but use older nvidia-340 binary drivers. This is the nvidia recommended set of drivers for my card. Another comment in the upstream report mentions the issue may not have as much to do with Nvidia as it does with Xrandr fast video mode changes. I have confirmed this behavior in my own testing, and have a reproduction test case that works pretty reliably for me: Reproduction Command: # Use output and modes that are valid for you... xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 1920x1080 ; xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 1920x1080 ; xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 800x600 ; xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 1920x1080 I've tested this a couple times and it looks like I am able to trigger the crash just with fast xrandr commands. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/911591 Title: gnome-shell crashes when resizing OpenGL window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/911591/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1736035] [NEW] Recommend libcanberra-pulse?
Public bug reported: I dropped this change when merging the latest version of libcanberra from Debian: gnome-session-canberra recommends libcanberra-pulse Sound effects still seemed to work without libcanberra-pulse when I tried it, but I'm guessing it's better if the package is installed. gnome-control-center and unity-control-center recommend libcanberra- pulse. ubuntu-mate-core depends on libcanberra-pulse. I suggest that ubuntukylin-desktop recommend libcanberra-pulse. [Bug 1735991] Re: QL-570 printer : the led flashes red and nothing happens
The most common issue which can cause this is setting the Page Size incorrectly in the driver. You'll get the red flashing light if the intended page size doesn't match the label. The other issue is swapping the X and Y dimensions - the X (as far as the printer is concerned) is across the printer; the Y axis is the direction the label feeds. Note that most of the Ptouch labels are longer (Y axis) than they are wide (X axis), but the dimensions on the label box are the other way around. This means you need to specify the paper size as it is on the physical label (i.e. longer than wide) then rotate the label (e.g. gLabels's "Rotated" option). What are you trying to print, and with which application? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735991 Title: QL-570 printer : the led flashes red and nothing happens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ptouch-driver/+bug/1735991/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
Hello Everyone. I've been following this thread and tried every fix here to no avail. I live in Canada and I want to keep my Ubuntu in English, with Canadian Locale because most of the time I'll be writing in english and working regularly with Canadian (very similar to us) locale, I guess... but when I'm relaxing Talking to family or friends in Brasil, I'll need accents like áéíúú and the f'ing ç. Right now the closest I've come was having 2 "entry methods" that I switch back and forth. 1) English (Canada) for when I'm writing in english and 2) English (US, International with DeadKeys) for when I want to write Portuguese-BR. Here is what I've done so far My Ubuntu version to begin with: geraldo@geraldubuntu:~$ uname -v #44~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 9 15:37:44 UTC 2017 Language support: English (Canada) Keyboard input method (None) (had tried with iBus) no difference. Those two keyboards layout as mentioned. Two changes in ~/.profile (Comment #115 and other): geraldo@geraldubuntu:~$ cat ~/.profile | grep export export LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF-8 export XCOMPOSEFILE=/usr/share/X11/locale/pt_BR.UTF-8/Compose Here is how my locale look like, so I know comment #115 is set properly: geraldo@geraldubuntu:~$ locale LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_CA:en LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_CA.UTF-8" LC_ALL= Also tried edditing other files... please note: geraldo@geraldubuntu:~$ cat /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules.cache | grep cedilla "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules/im-cedilla.so" "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk30" "/usr/share/locale" "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en" geraldo@geraldubuntu:~$ cat /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules.cache | grep cedilla "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/immodules/im-cedilla.so" "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk30" "/usr/share/locale" "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en" And I'm still getting ć. During an attempt to solve the problem myself I discovered *) The problem did not exist on ubuntu 17.04 *) When removing the option `gfxmode $linux_gfx_mode` in the grub2 boot config. It boots perfectly fine. *) When investigating the value `$linux_gfx_mode` in the boot console, the value is `keep`. *) According to the grub2 manual (https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/html_node/gfxmode.html), then `keep` is not a valid value for the `gfxmode` variable. However the value `keep` is a valid value for the `gfxpayload` variable, see https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/html_node/gfxpayload.html#gfxpayload And when looking into how the `$linux_gfx_mode` is assigned the value in the `/boot/grub/grub.cfg` (line 119-136) where it achieves either the value `text` or `keep`. It looks like this value should be used to set the `gfxpayload` variable in stead of `gfxmode`. ** Summary changed: - Graphics is corrupt up on VT1-VT7 even during boot + Graphics is corrupt on VT1-VT7 even during boot -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736023 Title: Graphics is corrupt on VT1-VT7 even during boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1736023/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
