[Bug 522845] Re: compiling with libcap-ng disallows qemu/kvm access to files not owned by root when not using AppArmor
This is a very old Delta we are still carrying. Compared to a lot of the delta which just has no trace where it came from this one had at least a bug link - yeah - thanks Jamie! So for documentation purpose I'm updating here as I'm about to remove the related Delta on the next merge as it is safe to be removed. Case dependent tests: - We have an allow and a deny, who wins anyway? Discussed - denies are evaluated separate and win - so the rule was effective. - Test: 1. make a setup with disks owned by root and non-root (mixed) 2. run default - ok DROP the setpcap deny 3. run again - ok 4. disable apparmor security via seclabel none 5. run again - ok 6. repeat 1-5 with user/group set to root in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf - all ok So it works fine in all cases related to the initial issue. Note: It will grab ownership for the time of the execution, example: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 196616 Dec 14 15:46 test.qcow2 when run as extra user changes to: -rw-r--r-- 1 libvirt-qemu kvm 196616 Dec 14 15:46 test.qcow2 So we are good to drop that old change -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522845 Title: compiling with libcap-ng disallows qemu/kvm access to files not owned by root when not using AppArmor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/522845/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1600606] Re: Totem is missing the playlist
The playlist is nowhere to be found in Totem. Apparently it was perceived being too complex by the Gnome guys. The problem is that there are previous/next buttons which apparently navigate through some kind of an invisible playlist, so there is a notion of a playlist. That is extremely confusing to the user - apparently there is a playlist, but it can not be opened/shown, which I perceive as a bug in the UI design. True, it's not Ubuntu, it's upstream. One difference between artful and bionic is that bionic has libglvnd0 installed (and libegl1 depends on it, so I can't really remove it). Artful doesn't have it installed. Hi, thanks for the explanation. Actually, I has some troubles with the initial dual boot setup of the machine (which is now single boot into Ubuntu), so this is probably my fault! That is right: - make libsane1's install script execute a few "ln" commands. [Bug 1733136] Re: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses LLVMpipe software driver on hybrid graphics system
Yes definitely try blacklisting nouveau. The GTX 1050 is relatively new. In my experience the GTX 1060 (slightly older) only started working recently and the GTX 960 still doesn't work with nouveau at last check. Although when I say "working" I mean the machine boots without hanging and doesn't fall back to the LLVMpipe driver (which my GTX 1060 did for quite a while). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733136 Title: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses LLVMpipe software driver on hybrid graphics system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1733136/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1733136] Re: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses LLVMpipe software driver on hybrid graphics system
And I only saw your feedback after I put my last comment in... :O The lspci -k command run from artful shows this: 01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GP107M [GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile] (rev ff) Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau, nvidia_387_drm, nvidia_387 I've got all those blacklisted though in /etc/modprobe.d/, and "lsmod|grep nvidia" and lsmod|grep nouveau" both return an empty string. (The configuration is pretty much the same in bionic as in artful.) I can't disable the discrete GPU in my BIOS, btw. bumblebee works fine in artful, though, turning off and hiding the nvidia card from gnome- shell, and primus runs an X session using the nvidia card quite happily from within gnome-shell, both under Wayland and X. I guess I should go back to bionic and blacklist nouveau as well as re- remove the nvidia driver and try again? [Bug 1738338] [NEW] Have unity-session recommend gtk3-nocsd
Public bug reported: Ubuntu patches Gnome apps to use tradition titlebar and menubar (in some apps) so that it can work well under Unity (Specially for LIM). But Unity is not the default desktop anymore. And Desktop Team goals is to reduce the Ubuntu-specific patches they are carrying. So in future they are likely to be dropped. But then it will create problem for Unity. One simple solution is to use gtk3-nocsd. gtk3-nocsd will automatically force all applications to use traditional titlebar. Also, you might find 'lspci -k' reports nouveau is being loaded too. In that case the fallback to software rendering (AKA LLVMpipe, AKA VMware) is an expected problem for some newer Nvidia chipsets that nouveau can't handle adequately. P.S. Note that Gnome does not advertise hybrid graphics as supported until Gnome 3.27/3.28. We only have 3.26 in Ubuntu, so I'm not sure how much we should expect to work... https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome- announce-list/2017-October/msg00013.html -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733136 Title: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses vmware driver on intel hardware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1733136/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1733136] Re: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses vmware driver on intel hardware
What made me suspect you used the nvidia installer was the terminology: "manually reinstalled bumblebee and nvidia-387". My mistake, and moving on... Next, note that the "VMware driver" in use is actually LLVMpipe. This is the Mesa software renderer that all systems can use, apparently written by VMware, but that part is not interesting. So your system is falling back to software rendering is all. And gdm3 may have detected you have some kind of discrete graphics card that is disabled (please run lspci -k for us), it would in that case choose Xorg instead of the native/Wayland option. I believe the Nvidia driver prefers Xorg by default for various reasons so having Nvidia installed will/might hide the Wayland options. That's not a bug though, but a feature of the Nvidia driver I have heard of... So I'll assign this bug to Xorg, which should be working better at least. Please also attach your /var/log/Xorg.* ** Package changed: gdm3 (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733136 Title: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses vmware driver on intel hardware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1733136/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1733136] Re: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses vmware driver on intel hardware
But I did install the nvidia driver from a deb file (from one of the graphics driver PPAs). (What makes you suspect that I installed it using the nvidia installer?) It's true that the first time you install the nvidia driver (and I mean via the PPA deb file), it tends to make /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so and /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/libGL.so point at the nvidia drivers, but this isn't the case in my setup, which works fine in artful, just not in bionic. (You just have to run "sudo prime-select intel" to fix this.) I guess that the affected package should probably be gdm3 instead of gnome-shell since gdm3 is already running under X on llvmpipe by the time it runs gnome-shell. Is there a way to figure out why gdm3 can't run in a Wayland session, eg log messages describing why it rejects the Intel MESA driver? ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => gdm3 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733136 Title: wayland session in Ubuntu 18.04 chooses vmware driver on intel hardware To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1733136/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1723198] Re: upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 fails with: ca-certificates 20170717~16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned
The root cause of the removal is ca-certificates-java in xenial Depends: openjdk-7-jre-headless (>= 7~u3-2.1.1~pre1-1) | java7-runtime-headless; java7-runtime-headless is provided by openjdk-8-jre-headless, but this will not cause apt to install openjdk-8-jre-headless on upgrade when openjdk-7-jre-headless is already installed. openjdk-7-jre-headless is only available in Trusty, and has a dependency chain on an obsolete version of tzdata, so apt forces removal of tzdata- java -> openjdk-7-jre-headless -> ca-certificates-java Switching ca-certificates-java in Xenial to explicitly prefer openjdk-8 -jre-headless as the first alternative may be sufficient hint to the package manager for this upgrade to work correctly. - Eric -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723198 Title: upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 fails with: ca-certificates 20170717~16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1723198/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have tested an upgrade with the new Xenial test package of "ca- certificates-java" that I have prepare using a local repository approach (since the pkg is not yet in Ubuntu archive). So far switching to "openjdk-8-jre-headless" has good result after 3 different upgrade attempt. [Bug 1737639] Re: Touchpad stopped working in Dell XPS13
It looks like you don't have the associated xorg package installed with it. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-libinput You should check your Xorg log to see if libinput is active. Given this initial issue is resolved (touchpad stopped working) I'm going to close this kernel task. If there ends up still being another bug related to the performance you should open a separate bug relative to the libinput package. [Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd "Failed to start discovery: org.bluez.Error.NotReady" after bluetoothd restarted
Yes the bug title changed but the problem the original reporter was describing in the bug description did not. The original description and the current description both say: "On 15:10 after the bluetooth service has been stopped and restarted it is not possible to scan or connect to devices:" Thus the original bug title was just a mistake, which has been corrected. It is inappropriate to commandeer and change the direction of a bug from the intent of the original reporter because at any stage they do have the right to change it back, or to proclaim that some eventual fix does or does not resolve the original problem. There are only 28 people, not 128, really subscribed to this bug. I'm sure one of you could just follow this link and open a new bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+filebug It is actually pretty common for people to say "hey that bug you closed doesn't fix the problem for me". However the bug should still remain closed unless those people happen to be the original reporter. So in that case, yes, if TJ was willing to change the description of this bug to be about the problem you describe rather than the original problem s/he reported then that's possibly OK. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1490349 Title: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd "Failed to start discovery: org.bluez.Error.NotReady" after bluetoothd restarted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1490349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
