[Bug 1740658] [NEW] Select Erase disk and install Kubuntu (No such Option)

2017-12-30 Thread Omair Ahmed
Public bug reported:

At step 5 of Kubuntu 18.04 Bionic Installation I found a bug, in
VirtualBox on my laptop.

Step 5 said:
  "Select Erase disk and install Kubuntu
Installation screen expands to include encryption and LVM options"

But the Installation Type screen layout was not like this. It showed two
options Guided and Manual.
In Guided there were three options:
   1. entire disk..
   2. with encryption..
   3  with LVM and encryption..

Doing sudo apt stuff is so not my thing, as I do not know how to do or
where do such stuff.

Thankyou though very much for your advice, and everything is ok now as I
was using a

16.10 system and it got updated to 17.10 system, I think, and firefox 57
was part of the

upgrade. So thanks again, and have amazing new year and many many more.

[Bug 1728244] Re: Touchpad stops working after reboot on Apollo Lake

2017-12-30 Thread Daniel Ruoso
I think I just had a huge breakthrough, after installing a kernel 4.14.0
with all of the patches referenced here, suddenly the touchpad was
working. I went ahead and rebooted and sure enough the touchpad was not
working again. Then I thought, what if I suspend the computer? And sure
enough, the touchpad magically starts working after the computer wakes
up. I think there's some device initialization code that gets called on
wake-up that is missed on boot.

Ok, thanks. I asked because some corrections were made before the
release of 17.10, which ought to make sure that if you install 17.10
with e.g. the British locale, all the British language support packages
are installed.

But the more general issue, as described in bug #1294858, is still
present.

[Bug 1740635] Re: Correct screen resolution not available on Ubuntu 17.10

2017-12-30 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1740635/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 886449] Re: [USB-Audio - USB Camera-B4.04.27.1 (playstation eye), recording] Pulseaudio fails to detect card

2017-12-30 Thread WhyteHorse
This bug still affects Debian alsa so maybe it should be merged into the
main alsa. It was a problem until there was a kernel update and now the
mic "just works" on newer kernels but the speaker is not working.
alsamixer does see the card and when you select it you get "cannot load
mixer controls: Invalid argument". apaly doesn't see it for some reason:

 $ aplay -l
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA], device 0: bcm2835 ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA]
  Subdevices: 7/8
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1
  Subdevice #2: subdevice #2

  Subdevice #4: subdevice #4
  Subdevice #5: subdevice #5
  Subdevice #6: subdevice #6
  Subdevice #7: subdevice #7
card 0: ALSA [bcm2835 ALSA], device 1: bcm2835 ALSA [bcm2835 IEC958/HDMI]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
However, arecord does see it:

$ arecord -l
 List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices
card 1: CameraB409241 [USB Camera-B4.09.24.1], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

This bug affects me currently and I have heard other people were able to
workaround it with a file ~/.asoundrc but I have tried all of those and can't
get any to work.

+ python-poppler is scheduled for removal from Debian Testing soon. We

+ python-poppler will be removed from Debian and Ubuntu soon. Please don't have

[Bug 1426840] Re: connecting to vpn fails with could not find source connection

2017-12-30 Thread Chad Miller
I don't agree with mtm that there is no bug here.

The availability of VPN should not have to depend on another interface
being managed by Network Manager. Detection of the other device's state
should be enough, and full administration should be unnecessary.

[Bug 1740637] [NEW] Remove python-appindicator and gir1.2-appindicator-0.1

2017-12-30 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

gir1.2-appindicator-0.1 has no reverse dependencies (it is for gtk2
GObject Introspection)

After removals are processed for other reasons, there are only 2
packages that recommend python-appindicator. It would be trivial to drop
the recommends. Those 2 packages (deluge and gtk-recordmydesktop) are
scheduled for autoremoval from Debian Testing in February because they
use pygtk.

$ reverse-depends python-appindicator
Reverse-Recommends
==
* deluge-gtk
* gpodder — should be fixed once 3.10.0 is packaged
* gtk-recordmydesktop
* sbackup-gtk — RM requested in LP: #1739800
* winswitch — RM requested in LP: #1739797

Reverse-Depends
===
* aws-status — RM requested in LP: #1739797
* cherrytree — RM requested in LP: #1731725
* glipper — RM requested in LP: #1739800
* hamster-indicator — source is hamster-applet, RM requested in LP: #1739797
* python-seelablet — RM requested in LP: #1740631

--

The other gtk2 libraries for libappindicator aren't planned for removal yet.

$ reverse-depends libappindicator0.1-cil

[Bug 1740635] [NEW] Correct screen resolution not available on Ubuntu 17.10

2017-12-30 Thread Severin
Public bug reported:

I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 17.10 on my Dell Precision M2800. I
use two external displays (both Dell U2715Hc) with a screen resolution
of 2560x1440 (one connected over HDMI-1, the other over DP-1). On the
one connected over HDMI the maximum available resolution is 2048x1152. I
tried to add the missing resolution with xrandr to HDMI-1 - but this was
not successful (Error: could not apply...).

[Bug 1740634] [NEW] "Continue" button is not enabled on "Where are you" page

2017-12-30 Thread Konrad Krawiec
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot from Kubuntu 18.04 daily image (not sure if this issue affects other
versions of Kubuntu) and choose "Install Kubuntu"
2. On "Installation type" page, select "Guided - use entire disk and set up
encrypted LVM"
3. Enter the password and click "Install Now"
4. Immediately after that, change the entered password in any textbox (because
the two textboxes are still enabled), but make sure that both of the passwords
don't match

[Bug 1531653] Re: Macbook Pro Retina 11, 1 SD Card Reader Doesn't Work

2017-12-30 Thread Randy Syring
FWIW, I recently got a new computer and finally took the MBP into Apple
to run some diagnostics. The internal hardware diagnostics never found
anything wrong. However, when I took it to Apple, they had some more
advanced diagnostics that immediately identified a problem with my SD
card reader. Interesting that the reader still worked with MacOS.

I'm giving the laptop to my son who wants to run MacOS and not Linux, so
I won't be able to contribute to this issue anymore. Thanks to those
who put effort into it.

[Bug 1740627] [NEW] lernid: Don't depend on pygtk

2017-12-30 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

pygtk is unmaintained upstream. It has not had a release since GNOME 3
was released in 2011.

pygtk will be removed from Debian and Ubuntu soon. Based on the current
list of reverse dependencies, I don't expect this to happen before
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS's release but it could happen for 18.10.

The way forward is to port your app to use GObject Introspection
bindings (and gtk3).

For more information on GObject Introspection see

[1] https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GObjectIntrospection
[2] https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/PyGObject

This will also enable you to re-enable several features that have had to
be disabled (Browser, Terminal, Appindicator).

[Bug 1740622] [NEW] ubuntu 17.04 copy to USB slow & cuts off at 4Gib

2017-12-30 Thread Rod Boudreaux
Public bug reported:

When coping to any (flash drive or USB external hard disk ) USB device:

1.Display bar proceeds normally until near end stops and displays X for
an increasingly long time depending on size of file (less than 4Gib ).
Eventually it completes (check mark) and copy is ok.

2. If copy is larger than 4Gb copy terminates at 4Gb and will give error
display.

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-30 Thread Davide Prati
#386
I tried boot into linux via netboot but secure boot forbids me from install
anything. I can boot into grub but "ls -l" command to get UUID doesn't work for
the same reason.

Can you tell us how to boot into linux to get UUID with secure boot
enabled? Or do you have an alternative solution?

#395
I think the biggest problem is how to get this UUID if we cannot boot in any
way..
However i can boot ssd in another pc as first drive so i can use linux to
change UUID when i'll discover it.

Hope in you guys..

You don't have a BIOS, but a UEFI.

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-30 Thread Alex Friis
ad #386.

Would it be possible to change the UUID of the EFI partition, when having the
disk in question mounted/connected as an external drive?
Fon instance connecting the disk via a SATA-USB connector and then change the
UUID with the windows "diskpart" command? Doing something like the following.

DISKPART> list disk
DISKPART> selectdisk
DISKPART> uniqueid disk
DISKPART> uniqueid disk ID=[NEW SIGNATURE]

 or is this completely rubbish?

[Bug 1740620] [NEW] mythtv should not depend on gksu

2017-12-30 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

gksu has been deprecated and unmaintained for several years. It is
recommended for app developers to use PolicyKit to run the specific
actions that need elevated privileges instead of running the entire app
as root.

Ubuntu 17.10's default desktop (a themed GNOME on Wayland) does not
support gksu.

Therefore, Debian and Ubuntu intend to remove gksu soon. Please modify
mythtv-frontend and mythtv-backend to not depend on gksu.
