[Bug 1742063] [NEW] Systemd taking long time to boot into desktop 18.04

2018-01-08 Thread lotuspsychje
Public bug reported:

ubuntu desktop 18.04 development branch with gnome/xorg @ 9/1/2018

Systemd takes a long time to boot both from start to login and from

[Bug 1705748] Re: Samsung SSD 960 EVO 500GB refused to change power state

2018-01-08 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
SRU: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-
team/2018-January/089222.html

** Description changed:

+ === SRU Justification ===
+ [Impact]
+ A user reported his NVMe went out to lunch after S3.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Disable APST for this particular NVMe + Motherboard setup.
+
+ [Test]
+ User confirmed this quirk works for his system.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Very Low. This applies to a specific device setup, also user can
+ override this quirk by "nvme_core.force_apst=1".
+
+ === Original Bug Report ===
  Originally thought my issue was same as this:

  System becomes unusable at seemingly random times but especially after
  resume from suspend due to disk 'disappearing' becoming inaccessible,
  with hundreds of I/O errors logged.

  After viewing the above bug report yesterday as a quick temporary fix I added

[Bug 1742061] [NEW] failed grub installation

2018-01-08 Thread pixmix
Public bug reported:

Installed on Lenovo Ultrabook U410. Already suceeded before with standard
installation on main HD
I partitioned the internal 32G SSD as 8G swap as logical partition at the end
and remaining for / at the beginning as Primary partition.
I partitioned the main 750G disk to have 120G for /usr, 120G for /opt and the
remaining 500+G for /home, all as logical partitions.
All went fine until the end but grub did not install as the installer reported.
Trying now with some manual fixes.

[Bug 1741992] [2/3] powerpc/modules: Don't try to restore r2 after a sibling call

2018-01-08 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment on attachment From kamale...@in.ibm.com 2018-01-09 01:40
EDT---

When attempting to load a livepatch module, I got the following error:

  module_64: patch_module: Expect noop after relocate, got 3c82

The error was triggered by the following code in
unregister_netdevice_queue():

  14c:   00 00 00 48 b   14c
 14c: R_PPC64_REL24  net_set_todo
  150:   00 00 82 3c addis   r4,r2,0

GCC didn't insert a nop after the branch to net_set_todo() because it's
a sibling call, so it never returns. The nop isn't needed after the
branch in that case.

[Bug 1741992] [3/3] powerpc/modules: Improve restore_r2() error message

2018-01-08 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment on attachment From kamale...@in.ibm.com 2018-01-09 01:41

Print the function address associated with the restore_r2() error to
make it easier to debug the problem.

Also clarify the wording a bit.

Before:

  module_64: patch_foo: Expect noop after relocate, got 3c82

After:

  module_64: patch_foo: Expected nop after call, got 7c630034 at
netdev_has_upper_dev+0x54/0xb0 [patch_foo]

Note: This patch is optional, it improves the debugging message.

[Bug 1735594] Re: ubuntu automatically logs out when hovering sidebar

2018-01-08 Thread Timo Aaltonen
uwer: which xserver versions do these machines have? apt-cache policy
xserver-xorg-core

And do both have xserver-xorg-video-intel(-hwe-16.04) installed? One
theory is that only machines installed with full HWE stack are affected,
those do not have -intel installed but use the modesetting X driver (as
intended).

[Bug 1741992] [1/3] powerpc/modules: Add REL24 relocation support of livepatch symbols

2018-01-08 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment on attachment From kamale...@in.ibm.com 2018-01-09 01:39
EDT---

Livepatch re-uses module loader function apply_relocate_add() to write
relocations, instead of managing them by arch-dependent
klp_write_module_reloc() function.

apply_relocate_add() doesn't understand livepatch symbols (marked with
SHN_LIVEPATCH symbol section index) and assumes them to be local
symbols by default for R_PPC64_REL24 relocation type. It fails with an
error, when trying to calculate offset with local_entry_offset():

  module_64: kpatch_meminfo: REL24 -1152921504897399800 out of range!

Whereas livepatch symbols are essentially SHN_UNDEF, should be called
via stub used for global calls. This issue can be fixed by teaching
apply_relocate_add() to handle both SHN_UNDEF/SHN_LIVEPATCH symbols
via the same stub. This patch extends SHN_UNDEF code to handle
livepatch symbols too.

Livepatch modules created using kpatch tools also requires Kernel changes. The
required kernel bits are merged into powerpc/next branch, attaching the kernel
patches.

[Bug 1741636] Re: Lenovo E560 die after Ubuntu 17.10 was installed

2018-01-08 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello,

from the login screen issue you mentioned it sounds like a video driver issue.
Can you try to boot 16.04.1 LTS version to see if it works?

BTW, there is a bug in 17.10 (bug 1734147), your model is not on the
list but it's still worthy to take a note here.

[Bug 1722060] Re: Some programs (e.g. Widelands) crash when playing sounds with sdl2 2.0.6

2018-01-08 Thread Quin
I wholeheartedly agree that libsdl2 should be updated, but from the
standpoint of an individual project it is bad publicity to have your
program crash on startup (and why we're all kind of mad that SDL did
this rewrite for a minor patch release). People often don't investigate
or understand that it isn't the fault of the project, but an underlying
library they know nothing about.

[Bug 1741925] Re: Unity launcher disappears on mouse-over launcher

2018-01-08 Thread Timo Aaltonen
This is a dupe of 1735594, but since I have a similar laptop which
doesn't suffer from this issue, let's keep it separate for now.

Do you have an additional monitor connected? What is the display
resolution you use? Do things still crash if you change the resolution
to something smaller than the native one?

[Bug 1717714] Re: @{pid} variable broken on systems with pid_max more than 6 digits

2018-01-08 Thread Eric Desrochers
Not quite sure now if apparmor upstream is found in launchpad[1] or
gitlab[2].

[1] https://launchpad.net/apparmor
[2] https://gitlab.com/apparmor

If it's launchpad then the URL is good.

If #2 & #3 are good (After your confirmation), then only #1, #4 and #5
are missing.

Im simply trying to anticipate & eliminate confusion before the final
upload.

I'd hesitate to call it a solution. It's a workaround at best.
The real solution here is a Stable Release Update to the libsdl2
package in Artful.

  [Original Description]

  If your kernel.pid_max sysctl is set higher than the default, say at 7
  digits, the @{pid} variable no longer matches all pids, causing some
  breakage in any profile using it.

  @{pid} is defined in /etc/apparmor.d/tunables:

@{pid}={[1-9],[1-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]}

  It only covers up to 6 digits.

  This Ubuntu 17.04 system has:
  kernel.pid_max = 4194303

  And is showing
  type=1400 audit(1505588857.828:792): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
profile="libvirt-55e9e12c-e6dc-4f56-a547-8514cf7d9bf3"
name="/proc/2168180/task/2769256/comm" pid=2168180 comm="qemu-system-x86"
requested_mask="wr" denied_mask="wr" fsuid=111 ouid=111

  Which should be matched by
  @{PROC}/sys/vm/overcommit_memory r,
  in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu

  I'm seeing similar failures on 16.04 (2.10.95-0ubuntu2.7), 17.04
  (2.11.0-2ubuntu4) and 17.10 (2.11.0-2ubuntu17)

  I am aware this is a non-default configuration, but I think this should
  work.

[Bug 1717714] Re: @{pid} variable broken on systems with pid_max more than 6 digits

2018-01-08 Thread Eric Desrochers
Hi Seyeong,

Here's some sponsoring notes that will require minor change. While
waiting for the build farm ...

#1 - Can you make sure (if not already) to forward/submit the patch to
debian upstream against apparmor ? Which is a requirement for the patch
to land in Ubuntu.

Then we can request a coredev to sponsor the devel release (bionic), and
then start the SRU.

#2 - Seems like the good upstream commit number for the change is
"ad94da321ba51e247b2df82a96cb9d83d47b887e" ? Can you double-check ?
If you confirm, please change the commit number where it applies.

#3 - Change "Origin:" in the DEP3 header
Origin: upstream,
https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/commit/ad94da321ba51e247b2df82a96cb9d83d47b887e
(or using the proper commit (see #2))

#4 - Change "Bug-Ubuntu:" in DEP3 header using the short LP bug url

From
Bug-Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1717714

To
Bug-Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717714

#5 - Review the package versions. Worst case I'll do it myself later
when I'll be ready to upload.

Example taken from trusty debdiff:
Going from "2.10.95-0ubuntu2.6~14.04.1" to "2.10.95-0ubuntu2.7~14.04.1" is
wrong. It's preferable to use "2.10.95-0ubuntu2.6~14.04.2"

Thanks & let me know if you have any questions.

- Eric

[Bug 1717714] Re: @{pid} variable broken on systems with pid_max more than 6 digits

2018-01-08 Thread Eric Desrochers
Hi Seyeong,

As we speak the LP build farm and autopkgtest request.cgi are disabled for
maintenance; no ETA yet.
No new uploads are allowed during this temporary freeze cause by the
maintenance.

We will gladly review your patch when everything will back to normal.

[Bug 1741839] Re: gdm3 lock screen (not log in) freezes sometime

2018-01-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
No thanks, we don't need any of those.

I suggest next you should:
  1. Install SSH: sudo apt install openssh-server
  2. Log into the affected machine remotely from a second machine using ssh.
  3. On the second machine start watching the log: journalctl -f
  4. On the affected machine: reproduce the freeze.
  5. Copy/screenshot/photo the final state of the log and provide it here.

+ * Revision :
+ http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~apparmor-dev/apparmor/master/revision/3722

  [Original Description]

  If your kernel.pid_max sysctl is set higher than the default, say at 7
  digits, the @{pid} variable no longer matches all pids, causing some
  breakage in any profile using it.

  @{pid} is defined in /etc/apparmor.d/tunables:

@{pid}={[1-9],[1-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9],[1-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]}

  It only covers up to 6 digits.

  This Ubuntu 17.04 system has:
  kernel.pid_max = 4194303

  And is showing
  type=1400 audit(1505588857.828:792): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
profile="libvirt-55e9e12c-e6dc-4f56-a547-8514cf7d9bf3"
name="/proc/2168180/task/2769256/comm" pid=2168180 comm="qemu-system-x86"
requested_mask="wr" denied_mask="wr" fsuid=111 ouid=111

  Which should be matched by
  @{PROC}/sys/vm/overcommit_memory r,
  in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu

  I'm seeing similar failures on 16.04 (2.10.95-0ubuntu2.7), 17.04
  (2.11.0-2ubuntu4) and 17.10 (2.11.0-2ubuntu17)

  I am aware this is a non-default configuration, but I think this should
  work.

[Bug 1741934] Re: Kernel panic with xenial 4.4 stack (4.4.0-108.131, Candidate kernels for PTI fix)

2018-01-08 Thread Taihsiang Ho
A quick test for comment #19 looks good. The test result for Dell Vostro
5468 (CID 201606-22340) looks good
https://certification.canonical.com/hardware/201606-22340/submission/126230/

** Description changed:

  [Description]

  When using PPA https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-
  team/+archive/ubuntu/pti/ to fetch the candidate kernels for
  CVE-2017-5754, CVE-2017-5715 and CVE-2017-5753. There is the same kernel
  panic shown in many different pre-installed Ubuntu images of different
  platform.

  So far these platform are known to reproduce this issue:

+ CID 201606-22340 (Dell Vostro 5468)
  CID 201606-22349 (Dell Inspiron 7560)
  CID 201606-22365 (Dell Inspiron 5767)

  [Steps to Reproduce]

  1. Install the target pre-installed image (Xenial 4.4-based stack) for the
platform.
  2. Fetch the kernel 4.4.0-108.131 from this PPA
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/pti/
  3. Update the system by "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade"
  4. After the system update, reboot it.
  5. Check the syslog after the system is ready to use again.

  [Expected Result]

  No kernel panic message.

  [Actual Result]

  Kernel panic message as:

[Bug 1737012] Re: Chromium random segfaults: error 4 in libnspr4.so

2018-01-08 Thread Mikhail N
> Do you know what triggers the crash (e.g. loading a certain type of web
> content, …)?
No. And so cannot try reproducing with other versions or proprietary Chrome.

> Is the latest update (63.0.3239.84-0ubuntu0.17.10.1) also affected?
I did not see them. But as I met those segfaults very rarely, may be new ones
will still happen one day.

> Do you get crash reports in /var/crash ?
Will look for them a bit later if they were there and have not been deleted.

doing an integrity check in Brasero aftwer putting the dvd back in it
says there is no md5 to be found on the disc, but I saw it go through

[Bug 213215] Re: Please include original cdrecord (cdrtools) package in Ubuntu

2018-01-08 Thread Edward
now I thought I fixed it, because it at least looked like it burned the
whole disc, by doing..

sudo apt-get install libdvdcss dvd+rw-tools libbrasero-media3-dev brasero
put swap on with gparted and don't close gparted until dvd is burned
use my usb burner instead of internal
choose explicitly to open the iso as an iso, don't use autdetect or the image
will say it is too big for a 4.7gb disc

went all the way, then did a checksum then ejected the disc but when I
reclosed the dvd there is no drive detected.

[Bug 1741902] Re: Drag and drop state may be freezed by rogue application

2018-01-08 Thread dronus
I thought Metacity is the component that has to deal with inter-
application interaction. Seems I am wrong?

I already know that a bug in nautlius is the trigger of the problem,
however no application should be able to lock drag and drop state on its
own without any way to exit it.

So the only target left to file this bug is the X server?

[Bug 1738366] Re: [needs-packaging] kylin-display-switch

2018-01-08 Thread Simon Quigley
Hmm, seems to be FTBFS when trying to build it using sbuild:

$ sbuild -d bionic-amd64-shm
dh clean --with python3 --buildsystem=pybuild
   dh_auto_clean -O--buildsystem=pybuild
E: pybuild pybuild:96: cannot detect build system, please use --system option
or set PYBUILD_SYSTEM env. variable
dh_auto_clean: pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p 3.6 returned exit code 11
debian/rules:6: recipe for target 'clean' failed

Could you fix this please? (Or if it's on my end, tell me what I'm doing
wrong?)

Thanks.
