[Bug 1746587] Re: my bug's

2018-01-31 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

lspci: Error reading /sys/bus/pci/devices/:9a:00.0/label: Operation not
permitted

How Reproducible:

Version
pciutils-3.3.1-1.1ubuntu1.1

Steps:

Additional Info:
* Upstream master branch from pciutils works fine in this setup.
(https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/utils/pciutils/pciutils/)

* v3.4.0 also works fine in this setup.

* v3.3.1 fails.

* Going through code quickly, looks like one of the required patches is :
https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/utils/pciutils/pciutils/+/ef6c9ec3a45992d9e7ef4716d444252baf2013e1

Not sure what other patches might be required for fixing this.

Peter, can you try if btcoex_enable=0 bt_ant_diversity=1 works for you?

Here's the relevant code:
/*
 * Enable WLAN/BT RX Antenna diversity only when:
 *
 * - BTCOEX is disabled.
 * - the user manually requests the feature.
 * - the HW cap is set using the platform data.
 */
if (!common->btcoex_enabled && ath9k_bt_ant_diversity &&
(pCap->hw_caps & ATH9K_HW_CAP_BT_ANT_DIV))
common->bt_ant_diversity = 1;

[Bug 1746661] [NEW] [linux-oem] Use I2C transport for touchpad on Precision M5530

2018-01-31 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

=== SRU Justification ===
[Impact]
Touchpad on Precision M5530 uses PS/2 instead of I2C as its transport.

[Test Case]
The touchpad binds to psmouse instead of i2c_hid.
With the patch, the touchpad uses i2c_hid instead.

[Fix]
LKML Link: https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/1/30/963
The de facto standard, Windows, parse its DSDT as a term list. The DSDT
table on Precision M5530 also designed that way, hence we should just
respect that.
Add a new quirk for this specific machine.
I'll backport the patch for stable releases once it's upstreamed.

[Regression Potential]
Low. This fix is limited to XPS 15 9570/Precision M5530. Also it's the
"correct" way to do for this machine.

2018-01-31 Thread Diogo Gomes
Christopher M. Penalver,

It was what I did. Since the system crashes, I can't do nothing without
reboot manually in the hardware button.

All logs are from reboot after the crash, it's the only way to submit
them.

I remember an error from a year ago that looked like panic kernel.
Something with tens of "00" on the last line before rebooting. But I
can not remember which log is to upload it.

I think it was in the /var/log/journal folder but it does not exist in
this version...

[Bug 1746660] [NEW] Chart does not refresh, even clicking does not redraw

2018-01-31 Thread Nicolas_Raoul
Public bug reported:

The chart is always the same image, it does not move.

I tried with an interval of 500 milliseconds or 2 seconds, same problem.

Unlike https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-

Actually when hovering the mouse over, different charts are displayed
one after the other, and when I withdraw the mouse, it is back to the

I added Ubuntu Gnome shell. After that, the screen was black (but everything
else seemed to be ok). I selected the "gdm" (not the "light" one).

Then I tried to upgrade to 17.10 then the gnome-menus failed the
upgrade. Prior to the failure, there were a dozen or so of "assertions
... =! NULL" errors one after another.

The Gnome shell would accept my password but then back to login. I
changed the shell to "Unity" and everything looked liked before the
17.10 upgrade (except the repeated errors above).

I will try to recover using my backup disk.

Bug 1746653 (private) mentions that Xwayland is dumping core (just
"core") in $HOME. That might explain this bug if the same is happening
for a lot of people... we wouldn't get the crash reports we need.

[Bug 1743249] Re: Failed Deployment after timeout trying to retrieve grub cfg

2018-01-31 Thread Steve Langasek
Regarding grub requesting the same file 4 times, a surprising finding:
I'm able to reproduce this with files of a certain length. By chance my
grub.cfg was 1 byte shorter than the one maas serves (269 bytes instead
of 270), and I saw multiple requests for this file.

To reproduce this in a VM using UEFI:
- set up dhcp to point to bootx64.efi
- set up tftp with bootx64.efi and grubx64.efi but not grub/grub.cfg
- create files of varying sizes and access them using 'source
(pxe)/config-file-on-server'

A simple file consisting of nothing but newlines is sufficient.

confirmed "good" file lengths: 1,2,3,4,266,268,270
confirmed "bad" file lengths: 267,269,271,584,595,627

No pattern established yet.

[Bug 1745747] Re: No USB support for Dell XPS 13 9370 running Bionic 18.04

2018-01-31 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
@Joseph
The Type-C port (the one with Display port icon) should work out of the box.
At least it works on the XPS 9370 here.

@Mario
I am not talking about lag, mine is like a GPE event storm slow the whole
machine down.
I'll dig further and see if I can find anything.

[Bug 1746638] Re: Nouveau graphics driver freezes and crashes

2018-01-31 Thread Diogo Gomes
These are the logs, when the system crashes, I can't use the system.
These are the logs after reboot after the crash.

I remember that 1 year or so ago, I saw one log finishing with something
like a kernel panic error (with many 00) but I don't remember what
is to upload after the reboot after the crash.

then upload the logs. Just uploading logs without this is useless.

Next day when I reboot my PC, the sound comes out from speaker.

Did I do something wrong?

If the problem is reproducible with a live environment, then testing
that is fine.

[Bug 1746418] Re: System freezes when starting Xorg after installing linux-image-4.13.0-32-generic

2018-01-31 Thread Sandra Ray
I can confirm that v4.14 final works.

Also, I made an obvious blunder in the initial report: I had to disable
*Wayland* after upgrading to 17.10, not Mir. That must've been a
crossover from an alternate universe where Ubuntu went with Mir :)

[Bug 1746638] Re: Nouveau graphics driver freezes or crashes

2018-01-31 Thread Diogo Gomes
1) I have this files in /var/crash but I think that is not related:
_usr_bin_gnome-disks.1000.crash _usr_bin_gnucash.1000.uploaded
_usr_bin_nautilus.1000.upload
_usr_bin_gnome-disks.1000.upload_usr_bin_lutris.1000.crash
_usr_bin_nautilus.1000.uploaded
_usr_bin_gnome-disks.1000.uploaded  _usr_bin_lutris.1000.upload
_usr_lib_xdg-desktop-portal_xdg-desktop-portal.0.crash
_usr_bin_gnucash.1000.crash _usr_bin_lutris.1000.uploaded
_usr_lib_xdg-desktop-portal_xdg-desktop-portal.0.upload
_usr_bin_gnucash.1000.upload_usr_bin_nautilus.1000.crash

2) The freeze/crash is random and every time that happens, I need to reboot
manually.

3) Can you explain what log do you need? A screenshot is impossible
because of 2).

4) With proprietary drivers do not crash.

5) This is my production machine and if you don't mind I don't want to
install 18.04 until it's stable. I have 90% sure that is not yet
resolved because I see a lot of bugs related with this (years) and until
now none have been fixed.

I'm able to continue to reporting and testing without replace all system.

libvirt recompiled from git, qemu from RHEL

Context:
Vdsm is the node management system of oVirt (http://www.ovirt.org) and uses
libvirt to run and monitor VMs. We use QEMU/KVM VMs, over shared storage.
Among the calls Vdsm periodically run to monitor the VM state:

virConnectGetAllDomainStats
virDomainListGetStats
virDomainGetBlockIoTune
virDomainBlockJobInfo
virDomainGetBlockInfo
virDomainGetVcpus

We know from experience storage may get unresponsive/unreachable, so
QEMU monitor calls can hang, leading in turn to libvirt call to hang.

Vdsm does the monitoring using a thread pool. Should one of the worker
thread become unresponsive, it is replaced. To avoid to stall libvirt,
and to leak threads undefinitely, Vdsm has one additional protection
layer: it inspects libvirt state before to call which go down to QEMU,
using code like

def isDomainReadyForCommands(self):
try:
state, details, stateTime = self._dom.controlInfo()
except virdomain.NotConnectedError:
# this method may be called asynchronously by periodic
# operations. Thus, we must use a try/except block
# to avoid racy checks.
return False
except libvirt.libvirtError as e:
if e.get_error_code() == libvirt.VIR_ERR_NO_DOMAIN:
return False
else:
raise
else:
return state == libvirt.VIR_DOMAIN_CONTROL_OK

Vdsm actually issues the potentially hanging call if and only if the call above
returns True (hence virDomainControlInfo() state is VIR_DOMAIN_CONTROL_OK)

When the NFS server is unreachable, the protection layer in Vdsm triggers, and
Vdsm avoid to send libvirt calls. After a while, however we see
virDomainGetControlInfo() calls not responding anymore, like

[Bug 1746638] Re: Nouveau graphics driver freezes or crashes

2018-01-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Diogo Gomes, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

1) To clarify, after the freeze/crash, are there crash files in
/var/crash?

2) Could you please advise when the freeze/crash happens?

3) Could you please post a log and screenshot of the freeze/crash?

4) To clarify, if you use the proprietary nvidia drivers, does the
computer still freeze/crash?

5) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20180131/ and advise to the
results?

[Bug 1744754] Re: qemu-efi-aarch64 in >= artful can't boot xenial cloud images

2018-01-31 Thread dann frazier
@Robert: Actually, X-Gene is supported on trusty, which is non-GICv3,
but your point is taken. I personally think option #3 would be the best
option, but wasn't sure of the feasibility. However, I've been working
on the necessary kernel backports in the background over the past week,
and I now have something working that looks pretty clean/minimal. I'm
doing some regression testing now, and plan to submit to the kernel team
later this week.

[Bug 1746631] [NEW] livecd-rootfs 2.496 needs a PROPOSED=1 build test before release to bionic

2018-01-31 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

After livecd-rootfs 2.495 landed in bionic release pocket, all livefs
builds began to fail because launchpad builders were trying to reach
people.canonical.com (for germinate) and could not.

Per cjwatson, the current fqdns for launchpad builders are *.ppa or
*.scalingstack, not *.buildd. However, it's difficult from the outside
to be sure that this is what the builder VMs themselves believe.

2.496 has been uploaded with a change to the hostname matching, but
before it lands in bionic release again (where 2.495 has been reverted),
we should get an explicit cross-architecture test livefs build with
PROPOSED=1 to confirm that it works as expected.

[Bug 1736390] Re: openvswitch: kernel oops destroying interfaces on i386

2018-01-31 Thread Joseph Salisbury
After some more testing, it appears v4.11 final does not have the bug.
Version 4.12-rc1 appears to be the first kernel version to hit the bug.
I'll run a few more tests to confirm this. Once confirmed, I'll start a
bisect between v4.11 and v4.12-rc1.

If others want to try these two versions, they can be downloaded from:

v4.11: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11/
v4.12-rc1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.12-rc1/

[Bug 1745342] Re: touchscreen that worked in artful with 4.12 no longer works with 4.13

2018-01-31 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
edea55abb86ff67afda96120d6254290e7a75d9e

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1745342

I figured we would have a few 'good' kernels by now. There are only a
few more steps in the bisect. Can you confirm v4.12 final was defiantly
good?  It is available at:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.12/

[Bug 1682779] Re: monodevelop crashes on creating a new project

2018-01-31 Thread Selmi
i had the same problem

installation of gtk-sharp2 gnome-sharp2 from comment #6 didn't helped
installation of all suggested packages for monodevelop also didn't helped
change of default project director from comment #8 helped

interesting fact may be that directory which was set as default didn't
existed at all. when i was creating new solution i set directory
somewhere else, but monodevelop crashed. solution was partially created
(first only folders, after installing of additional packages there were
also files in them, but .sln with zero length and .csproj was prefixed
with #temp or something like it)

when i changed default path and then created new solution then its path
was already set in 'create new solution' windows and everything works
correctly

Also, have you tried what I wrote in comment #8, stopping systemd-

[Bug 1709164] Re: [MIR] bubblewrap

2018-01-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Please try to review the bionic version instead of the artful version ;)

Those files were moved to a patch and the patch should be able to be dropped in
the next upstream release:
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/bubblewrap/raw/debian/master/debian/patches/dist/Add-missing-files-from-upstream-git.patch

Those files are shipped in the bubblewrap binary package in
/usr/share/doc/bubblewrap/examples/

Is that a problem? Do we need to split the examples into a separate
package that we wouldn't need to be install by default? (They don't take
up much space.)

Here's a bug for the binary BPF file:
