[Bug 1746947] Re: failing autopkgtest due to password issue by nss
I want to decouple things a bit to make this bug less blocking, so I will: 1. prep a nss upload 2:3.35-2ubuntu1+really3.34.1-1ubuntu1 That will (for now) skip the nss merge that I meant to do to help while coming by, but seems to cause issues. 2. test that in a ppa if it would test correctly where nss 2:3.35-2ubuntu1 currently fails in regard to freeipa That will allow me to get through for nss what I need for other things, without the yet unclear impact on the nss password handling. P.S. the actual change we wanted was the opening of freebl3 as you know, I really need to test #1 if that change might have been the trigger for these failure :-/ I'll report back here after the tests -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746947 Title: failing autopkgtest due to password issue by nss To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipa/+bug/1746947/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1746947] Re: failing autopkgtest due to password issue by nss
Hi Timo, according to my sniff tests it will fail later on in 4.6.2 as well. It seems the new nss makes the crypto/passwords no more behave the way as expected. Of course the autopkgtest for 4.6.2 won't fail (as there is no old cert8.db, so the call is skipped), but if there would be one (e.g. on an upgrade) then it would fail (at least according to my tests in some containers). So as soon as I bad-test 4.4.4 things will go on as the autopkgtest won't test the upgrade path. but it will still be "broken under the hood". I didn't expect a fix in 4.4.x but instead wondered if you might be able to help to understand why it fails at all. And then depending on that insight we can work on a fix for either nss or freeipa as needed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746947 Title: failing autopkgtest due to password issue by nss To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freeipa/+bug/1746947/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1747358] [NEW] [MIR] ipxe-qemu-256k-compat
Public bug reported: I wanted to request that ipxe-qemu-256k-compat inherits the MIR from ipxe where it was absed on. Since we knew this will show up we prepared (but were unable to open a bug until the new queue was passed), thereby this MIR is a bit special and does not hold the usual template. Background: - IPXE (among other things) generates roms which are used by qemu - The size of these roms changed, and to get migrations working we need a compat package containing some old roms (details see pad.lv/1713490) Solution: - src:ipxe will contain the newest version as usual (in Main already, a merge to new version is prepared for Bionic) - there will be a copy+rename+reduce-content of the older src:ipxe uploaded under a new name being src:qemu-256k-compat - this is what will go to new queue and then needs an ack to go in main afterwards - This should be no (significant) extra effort for you because - the source of src:qemu-256k-compat is identical to the src:ipxe package - both are needed until any pre-Bionic is out of support - so we support this very same code for the same time anyway Around that a few discussions that I want to document here: # Discussion 1 - tyhicks > Just to be sure that I'm clear, we'll have two copies of the same > version of the IPXE source. In the case of a vulnerability in IPXE, > we'll need to fix it in both source packages? In case of a vulnerability in the src in xenial you'll have to fix: - src:ipxe in xenial-artful - src:ipxe-256k-compat in Bionic and later (same change as it is the same source) > Will there only be two IPXE source packages in Bionic? In other words, > will you drop src:qemu-256k-compat in Bionic+1? We can drop src:ipxe-256k-compat when we drop Xenial. Since it is the same source and the same time of support that should be small amount of extra work. #Discussion 2 - sarnold [...] This went on for a while discussing alternatives at what point we can drop the new -compat src package. It ended with Seth Concluding [...] I think VM migrations are different enough from release upgrades that it's fair to consider them seperately. We documented that we allow VM migration from LTS to LTS+2 on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QemuKVMMigration#Support_Matrix -- it sounds like this decision was made with due deliberation, so I don't want to disrupt it without good reason. Is it a realistic upgrade path for a private cloud running one LTS to install new LTS+2 nodes and skip LTS+1? What does upgrading a private cloud look like? A "small" cloud with just libvirt and virsh could certainly be upgraded this way. Having to install an LTS+1 compute node just to migrate through on the way to LTS+2 compute nodes feels like an arbitrary and artificial limitation. Duplicating these ipxe roms in 18.04 LTS *and* 20.04 LTS is unfortunate. But the gain in flexibility may outweigh the maintainance costs. In any event we don't have to make a final decision on 20.04 LTS until 2020. At this point I think I'm on board with the duplicate source packages. ** Affects: ipxe-qemu-256k-compat (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1747358 Title: [MIR] ipxe-qemu-256k-compat To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ipxe-qemu-256k-compat/+bug/1747358/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1747358] Re: [MIR] ipxe-qemu-256k-compat
@Seth - I copied some of our mail thread to make clear that you more or less acked already, but I subscribed you to add an explicit ack here in case needed. @MIR Team - I think this is already "complete" other than the component override that still has to be done. Also we have already a package in main that depends on it, so thereby we complete with stage 5 in [1]. That means we now: - set state to Fix Committed - wait for an AA to do the component override. [Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)
On debian (4.9) I didn't notice the issue but I didn't use much. HOWEVER, when I do apt-get upgrade on debian I do get the issue. It just updated the kernel file, didn't run the new kernel (a boot would have to happen). On v4.15 I didn't change the nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0, I guess. I did before upgrading to v4.15, I guess. But I can try again. [Bug 1747346] [NEW] ubuntu 17.10 crashed and will not reboot
Public bug reported: after using and then closing opera I could not re-enter opera again because an error message said I did not have user privileges also I could not get into thunderbird to, so I shut down and rebooted thinking it would fix it, but it would not reboot after many tries, it kept coming up with errors, so I think I will reinstall 16.04 and lose all my data, very annoying, but I have a backup on external hdd. Hi, It's ok - I learned something from this and I will keep going and eventually solve :-) Next time it happens, before you issue the --reinstall command, can you check the cache file and tell me if it has the 2 2 (or whatever the number your status shows) or a 0 0 in it ? I want to see if the status file was updated or if it is just the date of the file causing it to not be re-read. thanks, mark On Sat, Feb 3, 2018 at 12:39 PM jokrebel <1604...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > Sorry, bad news > > after 3 updates where the counter went away immediately the 4th failed > :-( > > There is still a red " 6!" after 2 "sudo apt update&&sudo apt full- > upgrade&&sudo apt autoremove" that tells "0 aktualisiert, 0 neu > installiert, 0 zu entfernen und 0 nicht aktualisiert." > > After doing a "sudo apt install --reinstall weechat-devel-ruby" and wait > some seconds the update-available counter got cleared. > > sad to have to tell that > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug > report. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604750 > > Title: > Byobu not clearing update numbers after updates > > Status in byobu: > Confirmed > Status in byobu package in Ubuntu: > Confirmed > Status in Fedora: > New > > Bug description: > I am running byobu on Debian Testing and, as of the last week or two, > byobu has started not clearing the update counter even after updates. > Even exiting byobu completely and starting a new session does not > clear the indicator, only updating do it. [Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time
It's important to remember that RSS increases is no indication of a leak - it will rise and fall according to how busy the machine is and not how much new memory the process has allocated. Please ignore all RSS values as they are going to be unpredictable and misleading. As for VSZ, that's kind of related to potential leaks. The problem with VSZ is that it's a measure of the address space mappings size and is also not a measure of regular memory allocated by the process. Although you can use changes in VSZ to detect leaks and bloat, address space used by VSZ is not an indication of the memory requirements of the process. Probably a better field to monitor for actual leaks is VmData which you can find in: /proc/PID/status VmData is a more realistic indication of memory allocated by the process. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1672297 Title: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1672297/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
