[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

2018-04-11 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Can you try latest mainline kernel again? At least the issue is gone for
me with latest mainline kernel.

I'll do a reverse bisect to find the commit that fixes the issue, and
backport the patch to Bionic's kernel.

We need to make progress in testing other firmware and guest issues. We
will come back to this later.

Meanwhile, the problem happened again today with the reboot and we tried
to collect the vmcore using 'X', but it did not collect. Indira, pls add
those details.

[Bug 1762536] Re: double tap on touchpad isn't recognized as double click on ubuntu 18.04 bionic

2018-04-11 Thread beta-tester
watching the content of the evemu-record, the only different between
double-tap on the touchpad and double-click on the mouse buttons below
the touchpad i saw, is the timing.

double-tap is way faster than the double-click.

double-tap: 6ms..11ms between tap-release
vs.
double-click: 79ms..137ms between click-release

going back to ubuntu 18.04 daily-live is made sligktly slower double-tap
on the touchpad with the result, that some of the slower double-taps
were recognized as double-click.

is there somewhere a kind of "debouncing"-algorithm that let the double-
tap recognized as "bouncing" and is filtered out - so it is only seen as
single-click... ?

[Bug 1763256] [NEW] The "update-interval" don't go beyond 100 secs and the app can crash

2018-04-11 Thread Almir Campos
Public bug reported:

Steps:

1 - Edit the range on the 'update-interval' key to a max over 100.00 seconds.
2 - Re-compile the schemas (glib-compile-schemas)
3 - Run gnome-system-monitor.
4 - Open the 'Preferences' window
5 - Click on the "+" button several times
6 - Verify that it won't be beyond "100.00".

Also, if after following the above steps you use 'gsettings' or 'dconf-
editor' to update the current value to a value above 100.00 secs you
will see that the 'Preferences' window will keep the value '100.00' -
please see the attached screenshot.

Finally, during the tests the app crashed several times. At least in one
of them I sent the automatic report.

My environment:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu

[Bug 1761377] Re: Failed installation: "ubi-usersetup failed with exit code 141" when installing (or upgrading to) 18.04 from USB

2018-04-11 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
I have tried this again using the March 9 version of ISO, and have an
important detail:

When installing to just one partition, I do not this error, and the
distribution installs fine and seems to work. However, when during the
installation I do a manual partition setup, and I install the OS to a /
partition and use an existing partion for /home, then I get this ubi-
usersetup error when submitting the "Who are you?" page.

In this case the installation fails completely.

** Summary changed:

- Failed installation: "ubi-usersetup failed with exit code 141" when
installing (or upgrading to) 18.04 from USB
+ Installation fails when using an existing partition for /home :
"ubi-usersetup failed with exit code 141" when installing (or upgrading to)

[Bug 1763232] [NEW] Width and Update Interval Optons do not Save

2018-04-11 Thread Michael Roy
Public bug reported:

Package: mate-applets 1.20.1-0ubuntu1
Release: 18.04 Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
Version: 1.20.1-0ubuntu1

Expected:
Changes to System Monitor applet width and System monitor update interval save
and are persistent following a reboot.

Actual:
Changes to System Monitor applet width and System Monitor update interval do
not save and return to default states following a reboot.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. In Ubuntu Mate, right-click on a panel and click "Add to Panel..."
2. Add System Monitor applet to Panel
3. Right click on System Monitor applet in Panel
4. Click Preferences
5. In "System Monitor Preferences" window, go to "Options" section and change
the values for "System monitor width:" and "System monitor update interval" (I
changed to 80 pixels and 1 milliseconds, respectively)
6. Click "Close" to close (and save) changed width and update interval options
7. System monitor width and System monitor update interval appears to change as
expected, HOWEVER now try the following:

8. Right click on System Monitor applet in Panel
9. Click Preferences
10. In "System Monitor Preferences" window, under "Options" section, the values
shown for "System monitor width:" and "System monitor update interval" have
reverted to default values ***even though the applet itself remains at user-set
values*** The values displayed in the System Monitor Preferences dialog are
now inconsistent with the appearance of the applet, which is incorrect behavior.

11. Change the values for "System monitor width:" and "System monitor update
interval" to match the appearance of the applet (I changed to 80 pixels and
1 milliseconds, respectively)
12. Click "Close" to close (and save) changed pixels and milliseconds settings
13. Right click on System Monitor applet in Panel
14. Click "Lock To Panel
15. Reboot computer
16. Upon reboot and login, system monitor applet width and update interval have
reverted to default values, ignoring user-set values. This is incorrect
behavior.

[Bug 1762427] Re: No feedback when snap installation fails

2018-04-11 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

- What happened:
+ [Impact]
+ Install / remove operations that fail don't show correctly in GNOME Software.
Solution was to fix incorrect logic in snapd API code in GNOME software.

- I tried to install Ora from gnome-software 3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.8. The
- install button showed the initialised progress state, but never updated.
- Dropping to the terminal I could see with snap changes that the task had
- errored (because of a 503 talking to the store).
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Open GNOME Software
+ 2. Start installing a snap
+ 3. Cancel the operation from the command line (need to wait until install
starts, but before it completes):
+ $ snap abort --last=install

- What should happen:
+ Expected result:
+ Install stops and GNOME software show correct state

- The UI should provide some indication that the install was not
- successful.
+ Observed result:
+ Install button still shows, but no progress occurs.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Could create new bugs in async results.

[Bug 1748095] Re: Non-root user can reboot machine from the command line

2018-04-11 Thread Rocko
I sometimes need to reboot a server that I'm logged into. In this case,
I got the wrong gnome-terminal tab by mistake and rebooted my laptop
instead, losing all my current work, which was an extremely suboptimal
outcome.

I checked rebooting from another user when my first user logged in, and
it didn't let me do it - it told me the command to try, however, which
did require authentication. (Rebooting from the system menu didn't work
at all, it just silently failed, but that's another matter.)

I agree typing reboot into a terminal is not something that desktop
users typically do - in which case, why support it? Or at least why not
make the user confirm it's what they actually want before rebooting?

[Bug 1761751] Re: Black screen on 18.04 + AMD RX460

2018-04-11 Thread David Henningsson
Kernel 4.15rc2+78d9b048446c3c0a83313444fb706f8f3bccdae7: Black screen.

Note: I installed the linux-image-...-generic deb only as the header
ones seemed to require libssl1.1...?

Anyway, I did some research on my own as well.

First, I had a look at the commits between 4.15rc2 and 4.15rc3. The only
one I could see being relevant is this one:

commit a703c55004e1c5076d57e43771b3e7796ea0
Author: Daniel Vetter
Date: Mon Dec 4 21:48:18 2017 +0100

drm: safely free connectors from connector_iter

...it seems relevant because the error I get is "Cannot find any crtc or
sizes", and the code emitting this error message (in
drivers/gpu/drm/drm_fb_helper.c) deals with connectors.

This commit is then referenced in other commits later on as being
required to fix, but since 4.16 is "black screen" too those fixes seems
not have helped here.

[Bug 1751508] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2018-04-11 Thread Alex Murray
I am also seeing this on a similar system - Lenovo Thinkpad X260 - and
for me this occurs when I boot with the laptop docked with two external
monitors connected. If I boot without it docked then it boots fine - but
when docked Xwayland seems to always crash on startup.

[Bug 1576187] Re: backuppc/smb: BackupPC failes to backup SMB shares after smbclient update

2018-04-11 Thread Mark - Syminet
This is still an issue in Bionic.

It has been fixed upstream in 3.3.2 (Bionic currently is 3.3.1), see
last post by upstream here:
https://github.com/backuppc/backuppc/issues/21

Patch is here: https://github.com/backuppc/backuppc/pull/22

Looks like smbclient output was changed, which broke some regexes in
BackupPC checking for success.

[Bug 1762889] Re: dh_translations doesn't strip .desktop files when more than 1 pot target with meson

2018-04-11 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I think the attached debdiff changes dh_translations in accordance with
the above discussion.

With all the workarounds in debian/rules dropped, g-c-c fails as
expected. But with this:

override_dh_translations:
dh_translations --domain=gnome-control-center-2.0

both the POT creation and the rest work fine.

gnome-calculator creates the POT and tweaks the .desktop file nicely
without any overrides.

I took this opportunity to propose that also Icon and Keywords
translations are stripped. Hope you agree that that makes sense.

[Bug 1763221] [NEW] blueman-applet enables bluethooth when it starts

2018-04-11 Thread pqwoerituytrueiwoq
Public bug reported:

When the blueman-applet starts it changes turn the bluetooth hardware on
This makes the AutoEnable option in /etc/bluetooth/main.conf pointless

The applet should not change the state of bluetooth on startup

Line 76 of
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/blueman/plugins/applet/PowerManager.py turns the
applet on
furthermore line 75 does not respect the value set on line 28

The applet should check the AutoEnable variable defined in
/etc/bluetooth/main.conf
in the event it is not defined it should check for the for it under the old
name of InitiallyPowered

On another note we have this:
def on_manager_state_changed(self, state):
if state:
def timeout():
self.adapter_state = self.get_adapter_state()
if self.get_option("auto-power-on"):
self.RequestPowerState(True, force=True)
else:
self.RequestPowerState(self.adapter_state)
GObject.timeout_add(1000, timeout)
it would be better to do this:
def on_manager_state_changed(self, state):
if state:
def timeout():
if self.get_option("auto-power-on"):
self.RequestPowerState(True, force=True)
else:
self.RequestPowerState(self.get_adapter_state())
GObject.timeout_add(1000, timeout)
as there is no need to make a variable for something are are using only once
especically when we do not know that we even need to check the adapter state yet

but the real question is why we need a auto-power-on option anyway
we could just drop lines 25-32 and do this
def on_manager_state_changed(self, state):
if state:
def timeout():
self.RequestPowerState(self.get_adapter_state())
GObject.timeout_add(1000, timeout)

The only reason I can imaging we would want to turn bluetooth on when the
applet starts is if the user manually started it as that would mean they have a
bluetooth device they want to it

[Bug 1340734] Re: oem-config missing from installed system after OEM mode setup using EFI boot

2018-04-11 Thread Steven Clarkson
I'm seeing this doing an EFI OEM install on 16.04.4 server. I've
attached the relevant part of the install syslog.

The problem is exactly as described in the original post. It is
installing oem-config-debconf, which depends on ubiquity, which
recommends grub-pc | grub | grub-efi. As grub-efi is not installed,
(only grub-efi-amd64 is in my case), this causes a conflict.

This doesn't happen in the desktop version because ubiquity is already
installed in the target system.

The grub-efi-[arch] packages should probably have a common Provides that
ubiquity can recommend instead of the grub-efi package.

Brian has also not been able to reproduce this behavior, and I haven't
reproduced it by installing the package, only by directly running the
command from the postinst which I believe would be run as part of the
upgrade.

I do have /etc/tmpfiles.d/screen-cleanup.conf and it is correct. My
permissions for /run/screen on boot are correct. But when I ran that
command, /etc/tmpfiles.d/screen-cleanup.conf seemed to have been ignored.

roundcube does not in fact need mcrypt since version 1.2

[Bug 1763209] [NEW] Cannot click and drag on trackpad

2018-04-11 Thread Aaron Seibring
Public bug reported:

I was previously using Ubuntu 17.10, but just upgraded to 18.04 today.
After upgrading, I found that I could no longer click and drag using my
trackpad, so I've been unable to drag files anywhere or highlight text
without using an external mouse. This is on Dell XPS 13 L321X.

Whenever I try to click and drag, the mouse just stops moving wherever
it was, and I cannot move the mouse until I click again.

External USB mouse seems to work perfectly fine.

I've been able to recreate this during a distribution upgrade from 16.04
to 18.04 (directory permissions switched from 775 to 777) when the
package is unpacked but not yet configured. This could end up causing an
issue at a conffile prompt for a different package if your screen

[Bug 1763202] [NEW] Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen. HDMI not working for external monitor

2018-04-11 Thread Peter Bittner
Public bug reported:

I have an X1 Carbon 6th Gen. (Intel Core i7 8th Gen, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB
SSD).

When I try to attach an external monitor via an HDMI cable the monitor
receives no signal. Similarly, when I use the Thunderbold dock and
attach two monitors (one via HDMI, one with DisplayPort) only the
monitor attached with DisplayPort works; the monitor attached with HDMI
stays black.

This made me think if this is really a bug in the software. I saw people
describing this issue with Windows installed; the solution was to hit a
special key combination. Unfortunately, the multimedia keys all not all
functional, specifically the F7 key, which seems to meant for "activate
external monitor", has no function.

[Bug 1758538] Re: Netbeans fails to run after turning on modules

Yes, 176391 would be the same bug. I later ran 8.1 from a terminal and
got the exact same error message. I am also using Java 9.

Thanks!

[Bug 1763198] [NEW] Icon stays highlighted with all windows closed

2018-04-11 Thread Alexander Browne
Public bug reported:

If the last window that was closed is a pinned app, the app's icon stays
highlighted on dock. This cosmetic issue occurs if desktop icons are
disabled.

In other words,

0. Disable desktop icons (MATE Tweak → Desktop → Show Desktop icons or
org.mate.background show-desktop-icons false).
1. Pin at least one app (I'll use MATE Terminal).
2. Open app.
3. Close all other windows.
4. Close app's window.
5. App's icon has no indicator, but it is still highlighted.

[Bug 1762680] Re: upgrades fail to complete

2018-04-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
And to answer the initial question, no, we should not be using the non-
blocking systemctl calls here, that'd just paper over broken systems.

I'm not sure why lxd-containers would be re-triggered on upgrade though,
in theory lxd-containers should be kept as it is (normally running) and
the lxd unit is the one that should be brought down and back up.
