[Bug 1764246] [NEW] kdump kernel panics on Bionic
Public bug reported: The kdump/crashdump kernel is panicing during boot on Bionic. 1) Install the daily Bionic server or desktop ISO 2) apt install linux-crashdump, say yes to kdump being enabled 3) Reboot so as to boot with the correct kernel parameter 4) Run: root@bionic-server:~# echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq root@bionic-server:~# echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger 5) Observe that the crashdump kernel panics before booting with an out-of-memory error. Log below. If I replace the bionic image with the artful cloud image, and repeat steps 2-4, the crashdump kernel boots and successfully stores the vmcore. This report: https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/7576bbf83cb88a0b3a870e1371dd86416b23c4b3 suggests the wave of unreadable stack traces this morning was perhaps due to an update to glib2.0, because: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0.5600.0 (deleted) So they are almost certainly all duplicates of bug 1748450, un- retracable due to the upgrade procedure of glib2.0. [Bug 1752411] Re: bind9-host, avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh hang forever causes network connections to get stuck
With host -d I simply get > Trying "local" When it works normally I get; Trying "local" Host local. not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) Received 98 bytes from 10.48.134.6#53 in 1 ms Received 98 bytes from 10.48.134.6#53 in 1 ms The system I am hitting this issue on is an upgraded system (rather than a fresh install which wouldn't use ifupdown) Because this is a serious issue for bionic upgraders I am attaching a debdiff to use 'timeout' to fix the issue for now because release is imminent. Core issue with 'host' probably still needs to be investigated (as this may add 5s delays to boot-up) however the timeout is probably a good backup anyway. In some ways potentially the entire check-dns script should probably be launched under timeout. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752411 Title: bind9-host, avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh hang forever causes network connections to get stuck To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/avahi/+bug/1752411/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Unfortunately gnome-shell applies each setting on startup, we only changed what applying the setting means. Applying nothing at all is not an option, and not something we introduced. [Bug 1763273] Re: kernel panic in Radeon driver while screen blank
Further debugging today while I'm on-site with the kiosks. The system froze, as usual, after normal idle screen blanking. I was able to login via ssh and retrieve some details. First, it appears that the basic screen blanking problem is somehow related to the Radeon driver. I will attach the Xorg.0.log file and a gdb backtrace on the running but non-responsive Xorg process. No keyboard or mouse activity will un-blank the screen. Here's the output from lspci | grep VGA: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series] I'll also attach the PCI ROM dump from the /sys/devices rom file for this device. This suggests that when we use Alt-SysRq-k to restore the system, sometimes we trigger *another* bug in the driver which results in the overall system crash. See the attached apr1.full.kern.log file for what details I could recover from the crash on April 1st; that corresponds to the screen photo I took that day (the radeon_kernel_panic1.jpg attachment). The Xorg "hang" bug which precedes this appears similar, but not identical, to what is documented in #1664979: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1664979 I will continue to try to study the live Xorg process to see if I can determine where its hung, but I may not have time this evening. Let me know if there are specific further debugging steps I can take to examine either the Xorg hang or the subsequent crash which (sometimes) follows on attempting to recover with Alt-SysRq-k. (And note that I'll copy in the files apport-bug generated from #1764211 later tonight, using my "cdarroch" personal account, and then I'll try to close that extra bug report.) [Bug 1759628] Re: bluez regression: Bluetooth audio fails to reconnect after resume
"Mature" means it hasn't changed in a while and we know what bugs it contains. "Mature" does not mean zero bugs, but at least by not changing it at the last minute we don't risk introducing bigger bugs. And this bug is not big at all. As an example, just today the "gjs" package has blown up with lots of new crashes that didn't exist last week. This was caused by an unnecessary upgrade of a previously mature package, and it looks like it may risk the whole 18.04 release. [Bug 1740618] Re: Remove gksu from Ubuntu
** Description changed: Debian has removed gksu. I recommend that we remove gksu and libgksu for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS also. It has recommended that developers use PolicyKit to only use elevated privileges for the specific actions where it is needed. It is recommended that users use the gvfs admin backend available in Ubuntu 17.10 and 18.04 LTS. You can do this with the admin:// prefix. For instance, instead of running gksu gedit or gksu nautilus to edit say /etc/default/grub, navigate to admin:///etc/default/ and open the grub file. Ubuntu 17.10's default session (a themed GNOME on Wayland) does not support gksu. [Bug 1764220] [NEW] [FFe] dpkg zstd support
Public bug reported: As discussed previously, we want to have zstd support in 18.04 to evaluate and potentially enable it in later releases. The zstd support adds a dependency on libzstd1 to dpkg. This should not have any effect on live images, since libzstd1 is part of the various live tasks, as btrfs-progs need it. For installed systems, this might be a new dependency (if they do not use btrfs, tor, or some other tools), so an increase of ~520 KB, as that's the size of the library and the library only depends on libc6. The change is isolated, it adds the compressor and decompressor to dpkg, please see the attached patch for the details. The change is being discussed here: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2018-March/040211.html https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=892664 ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Patch added: "dpkg_1.19.0.5ubuntu2.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1764220/+attachment/5117300/+files/dpkg_1.19.0.5ubuntu2.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1764220 Title: [FFe] dpkg zstd support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1764220/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
