This indicates that the package manager frontend was shut down while
package configuration was still in progress. You must have a valid
package manager frontend in order to correctly configure the UEFI Secure
Boot bootloader for use with dkms modules.

To correct this issue, you will want to run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'
from a terminal.

[Bug 1770557] [NEW] systemd-resolved should be restarted only on actual DHCP/DNS updates

2018-05-10 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Public bug reported:

My ISP gives me a DHCP IP with lease time about 2 minutes
in the script /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved , a function
make_resolv_conf is defined which creates config fragments in resolved.conf.d/
, then unconditionally restarts systemd-resolved service
so, about every 2 minutes, this service is restarted on my system, despite the
fact that DNS configuration is not changed.
I would propose an update to the script, which first creates config fragments
in temporary files, and then it restarts the service only when config is
changed (or created/removed).
now going to attach my patch below

Go to the hyperlink which Steve has mentioned and install the kernel.
Then boot choosing the newly installed kernel option and go to recovery
mode and upgrade your grub. Again reboot but choose the 4.15 kernel. And
update. the shim package is installed.

I dont know the technical details as to what was the problem but my
18.04 ubuntu is working fine now.

The apt-get upgrade option does not mention the error code.

[Bug 1770504] Re: Error

2018-05-10 Thread dino99
The upgrader does not support unknow version from third party (ppa
packages are logged as broken).

Use 'ppa-purge' for each ppa, to downgrade to genuine ubuntu version, then
check none of these ppas are active.
Next step is to clean the system via 'gtkorphan' & 'bleachbit' (as root,
carefully select options)

After rebooting the dist-upgrade script should be happier.

[Bug 1770553] [NEW] [SRU] backport ca-certificates-java from cosmic (20180413ubuntu1)

2018-05-10 Thread Tiago Stürmer Daitx
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Any user doing a new install - or upgrading, if openjdk was not installed - can
be affected as soon as they install any openjdk-11 package.

[Cause]
The ca-certificate-java version 20170930 (or earlier) used the default keystore
to create /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts - if the file already existed its
contents were just updated.

>From openjdk-9 upwards the default keystore type changed from 'jks' to
'pkcs12' [1] by means of JEP 229 [2]. A JKS keystore can be read without
supplying a password (or by supplying an empty one) while a PKCS12
keystore requires a password to be set.

Thus a /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts created in the pkcs12 format will
fail to be loaded as, by default, the truststore password is empty - in
order to avoid that the user must set
-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword= or define it in /etc/java-
XX-openjdk/management/management.properties. A JKS keystore will work
normally, as the certificates in it can be ready when the truststore
password is empty.

[Test Case with cacerts 20170930ubuntu1 or earlier]
Start on a new bionic install/chroot without openjdk

1. Install openjdk-11
$ sudo apt-get install openjdk-11-jdk

2. Test the keystore with an empty password (optional) and make sure it is a
PKCS12
$ keytool -list -cacerts
Enter keystore password:

*  WARNING WARNING WARNING  *
* The integrity of the information stored in your keystore *
* has NOT been verified! In order to verify its integrity, *
* you must provide your keystore password. *
*  WARNING WARNING WARNING  *

Keystore type: PKCS12
Keystore provider: SUN

Your keystore contains 0 entries

3. Test with the "changeit" password
keytool -list -cacerts
Enter keystore password: changeit
Keystore type: PKCS12
Keystore provider: SUN

Your keystore contains 133 entries

4. Create the java test file
$ cat

[Bug 1770550] [NEW] Nvidia driver 304.137 unsupported in Ubuntu Mate 18.04

2018-05-10 Thread Orest Harmatiuk
Public bug reported:

Vulnerabilities always exist in the world of computers. If fixing a
driver is all that is required to make it work for the users like me who
require it then that should be done. One need only attach a disclaimer
that the driver should be used at one's own risk and problem solved.

We as the Linux community shouldn't default to the ms model that shuts
out end users and relegates perfectly working hardware to the land fill.
I've run outdated drivers and OS's before and security threats were far
and few between if any.

All that said the Nouveau driver is incompatible with many Nvidia cards
still in use out there, crashing and freezing new installations of the
Ubuntu 18.04 Family.

We've come so far in the last 3 years with simplifying the transition
from other OSes to user friendly distros like Ubuntu Mate etc...this is
not the time to turn those new users away. Users with slightly older but
very usable hardware who are looking for an alternative.

Let's keep the momentum going...the more converts the better...and this
is really the time to do it.

If a patch to the 304.137 is not a solution then perhaps fix the Nouveau
driver so that it works with legacy Nvidia cards...Now that would be a
positive step forward.

[Bug 1770547] [NEW] X11 failsafe was not very useful

2018-05-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, after upgrading from 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS I had a non-working
X11 configuration.

The first dialog box said:

The
system
is
running
in low-
graphics
mode

Your
screen,
graphics
card, and
input
device
settings
could not
be
detected
correctly.
You will
need to
configure
these
yourself.
[ OK ]

The next dialog box had four options:

[ ] Try running with default graphical mode
[ ] Reconfigure graphics
[ ] Troubleshoot the error
[ ] Exit to console login
[ Cancel ] [ OK ]

Try running with default graphical mode --> didn't work, returned

Reconfigure graphics --> a new dialog box:

How would you like to reconfigure your display?
[ ] Use default (generic) configuration
[ ] Use your backed-up configuration
[ Cancel ] [ OK ] (probably OK, my photo cut it off)

Neither option worked.

Troubleshoot the error --> a new dialog box:

What information would you like to review?
[ ] Review the xserver log file
[ ] Review the startup errors
[ ] Edit configuration file

Review the xserver log file --> A new dialog box, with the log file.
I can't recall what the "startup errors" button did.
The "Edit configuration file" button didn't do anything useful.

There was a lot of interaction options in this whole experience but the only
ones that actually worked were (a) show the log file (which wasn't actually
useful, but I was grateful for it) (b) exit to console login. That actually
worked pretty well.

I'm sorry I waited too long to report the bug, now my memory is pretty
fuzzy. I just remember that not enough of this system worked to justify
keeping it. Maybe that's due to local errors, the upgrade didn't go
well, but that's precisely when such an interface will be needed most.

Thanks

[Bug 1768588] Re: Blender is missing parts of the "System" tab panel and some configurations.

2018-05-10 Thread Ivan Paulos Tomé
Hi ! I have made some further investigation on this issue. This problem
occurs mostly in I686 fresh installs. Rarely in X86_64. Some overlays
are also missing (like the ones located at the "Splash Screen") unless
you force a proprietary driver install, or use "./blender-softwaregl" at
the folder obtained directly from BF. It seems there is an issue related
to OpenGL.

2018-05-10 Thread Rafael Martínez Montiel
Why this changes from incomplete to expired, i'm experiencing this on a
fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04... sent various crash reports and it seems
that all crashes are related to this. System does not halt when in use
but if screen is turned off by inactivity it crashes and reboots.

Please try reinstalling again fresh without making any configuration
changes or installing additional packages.

Then:

1. Does the problem occur when you haven't yet installed anything?

2. Make changes to the system one-at-a-time and reboot each time. After
which change does the bug occur?

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected third-party-packages

** Description changed:

After installing Ubuntu 18.04, I updated and upgraded the system using
terminal, installed Ubuntu-mate-welcome and Gnome Tweak Tool. Then I restarted
my machine. After login into the system, I don't see anyway to click on any of
the icons and opening terminal using "Ctrl+Alt+T". I also went to recovery mode
to repair the broken packages and cleaning the system. But after login, I faced
the same problem. To reproduce the error:
  1. Install Ubuntu with of the essential packages.
  2. Login into the system.
  3. Observe the error.

Could you provide more information about this install? When did you
originally install Ubuntu? I thought that the minimum UID has been 1000
for several years.

[Bug 1770459] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 after restarting laptop keyboard and touchpad not working

2018-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please log into a VT (Ctrl+Alt+F4) and execute the
following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging
information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1770459

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

sometimes see the content even without unlocking) although it happens
much less frequently than in 16.04 in my personal experience.

[Bug 1769781] Re: Lubuntu Cosmic missing squashfs-tools, causing Calamares to crash

2018-05-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package calamares-settings-ubuntu - 2

---
calamares-settings-ubuntu (2) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * Add a .gitignore file for debian/files.
  * Remove lubuntu-qt-desktop from Suggests.
  * Update the Lubuntu.me website for HTTPS.
  * Bump Lubuntu's system requirements to safe values.
  * Remove calamares from the explicit removal list; we don't need it to
be there anymore.
  * Lubuntu Next -> Lubuntu.
  * Make squashfs-tools a hard dependency; without it, Lubuntu's installation
fails (LP: #1769781).

[Bug 1770040] Re: lbaas load balancer does not forward traffic unless agent restarted

2018-05-10 Thread Xav Paice
Please note that this affects customers as follows;

- customer creates a lbaas, no backends come up
- we restart the service, and backends come to life
- customer creates another lbaas, the running one is fine but the new one has
no backends
- we restart... etc

This means for every new load balancer, we need to restart the service
to get it actually forwarding traffic.

[Bug 1770443] Re: gdm3 sometimes crash after logout and login again

2018-05-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your bug report is missing crash details. In
order to debug a crash we will need a crash report. To create one,
please follow these steps:

1. If you are not running a future development release of Ubuntu then apply the
workaround from bug 994921.
2. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport.
3. If the crash is in Xorg then uncomment this option from
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf:
   # Additionally lets the X server dump core if it crashes
   #Enable=true
4. Reboot.
5. Reproduce the crash.
6. Look in /var/crash for crash files and when found, run:
   ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash
7. Add a comment here telling us the ID of the new bug that was created in step
6.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments, and doing so is also a
security risk for yourself.
