[Bug 1770557] [NEW] systemd-resolved should be restarted only on actual DHCP/DNS updates
Public bug reported: My ISP gives me a DHCP IP with lease time about 2 minutes in the script /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved , a function make_resolv_conf is defined which creates config fragments in resolved.conf.d/ , then unconditionally restarts systemd-resolved service so, about every 2 minutes, this service is restarted on my system, despite the fact that DNS configuration is not changed. [Bug 1770553] [NEW] [SRU] backport ca-certificates-java from cosmic (20180413ubuntu1)
Public bug reported: [Impact] Any user doing a new install - or upgrading, if openjdk was not installed - can be affected as soon as they install any openjdk-11 package. [Cause] The ca-certificate-java version 20170930 (or earlier) used the default keystore to create /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts - if the file already existed its contents were just updated. >From openjdk-9 upwards the default keystore type changed from 'jks' to 'pkcs12' [1] by means of JEP 229 [2]. A JKS keystore can be read without supplying a password (or by supplying an empty one) while a PKCS12 keystore requires a password to be set. Thus a /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts created in the pkcs12 format will fail to be loaded as, by default, the truststore password is empty - in order to avoid that the user must set -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword= or define it in /etc/java- XX-openjdk/management/management.properties. A JKS keystore will work normally, as the certificates in it can be ready when the truststore password is empty. [Test Case with cacerts 20170930ubuntu1 or earlier] Start on a new bionic install/chroot without openjdk 1. Install openjdk-11 $ sudo apt-get install openjdk-11-jdk 2. Test the keystore with an empty password (optional) and make sure it is a PKCS12 $ keytool -list -cacerts Enter keystore password: * WARNING WARNING WARNING * * The integrity of the information stored in your keystore * * has NOT been verified! [Bug 1770550] [NEW] Nvidia driver 304.137 unsupported in Ubuntu Mate 18.04
Public bug reported: Vulnerabilities always exist in the world of computers. If fixing a driver is all that is required to make it work for the users like me who require it then that should be done. One need only attach a disclaimer that the driver should be used at one's own risk and problem solved. We as the Linux community shouldn't default to the ms model that shuts out end users and relegates perfectly working hardware to the land fill. I've run outdated drivers and OS's before and security threats were far and few between if any. All that said the Nouveau driver is incompatible with many Nvidia cards still in use out there, crashing and freezing new installations of the Ubuntu 18.04 Family. We've come so far in the last 3 years with simplifying the transition from other OSes to user friendly distros like Ubuntu Mate etc...this is not the time to turn those new users away. Users with slightly older but very usable hardware who are looking for an alternative. Let's keep the momentum going...the more converts the better...and this is really the time to do it. If a patch to the 304.137 is not a solution then perhaps fix the Nouveau driver so that it works with legacy Nvidia cards...Now that would be a positive step forward. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770550 Title: Nvidia driver 304.137 unsupported in Ubuntu Mate 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1770550/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1770547] [NEW] X11 failsafe was not very useful
Public bug reported: Hello, after upgrading from 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS I had a non-working X11 configuration. The first dialog box said: The system is running in low- graphics mode Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself. [ OK ] The next dialog box had four options: [ ] Try running with default graphical mode [ ] Reconfigure graphics [ ] Troubleshoot the error [ ] Exit to console login [ Cancel ] [ OK ] Try running with default graphical mode --> didn't work, returned Reconfigure graphics --> a new dialog box: How would you like to reconfigure your display? [ ] Use default (generic) configuration [ ] Use your backed-up configuration [ Cancel ] [ OK ] (probably OK, my photo cut it off) Neither option worked. Troubleshoot the error --> a new dialog box: What information would you like to review? [ ] Review the xserver log file [ ] Review the startup errors [ ] Edit configuration file Review the xserver log file --> A new dialog box, with the log file. I can't recall what the "startup errors" button did. The "Edit configuration file" button didn't do anything useful. There was a lot of interaction options in this whole experience but the only ones that actually worked were (a) show the log file (which wasn't actually useful, but I was grateful for it) (b) exit to console login. That actually worked pretty well. I'm sorry I waited too long to report the bug, now my memory is pretty fuzzy. I just remember that not enough of this system worked to justify keeping it. Maybe that's due to local errors, the upgrade didn't go well, but that's precisely when such an interface will be needed most. Hi ! I have made some further investigation on this issue. This problem occurs mostly in I686 fresh installs. Rarely in X86_64. [Bug 1770443] Re: gdm3 sometimes crash after logout and login again
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your bug report is missing crash details. In order to debug a crash we will need a crash report. To create one, please follow these steps: 1. If you are not running a future development release of Ubuntu then apply the workaround from bug 994921. 2. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport. 3. If the crash is in Xorg then uncomment this option from /etc/gdm3/custom.conf: # Additionally lets the X server dump core if it crashes #Enable=true 4. Reboot. 5. Reproduce the crash. 6. Look in /var/crash for crash files and when found, run: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash 7. Add a comment here telling us the ID of the new bug that was created in step 6. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments, and doing so is also a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770443 Title: gdm3 sometimes crash after logout and login again To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1770443/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
