[Bug 1770528] Re: Purging of old backup - Simple cut-off is not happening

2018-05-20 Thread Daniel Mladek
Hi wattazoum,

Thank you so much for looking into this issue and explaining how the
Sbackup works.

Well, I've slowly arrived to similar conclusion and yes, you're right
about our configuration was kind of clashing.

(Just inherited how it was setup and my aim is to improve it). With no
description/documentation it was a bit challenge to guess what would be
the real behaviour of the "Simple cut-off" option. Frustrated, I based
my understanding on the explicit name of the option even though I
understand it would leave us with those orphants. Also, I'd rather have
it working in more smarter and safer way, which seems it doesexcept
keeps disk full.

You're right, my expectation would put the whole backup in the risk,
OTOH I would know what to expect.

I'll try to come up with some wordings for the documentation and
tooltips, as the behaviour seems to be alright. So, hopefully everyone
could configure Sbackup in the right way.

Cheers,
-d

Sorry, didn't try that (is it even possible without installing from that

[Bug 549256] Re: [GeForce 7025 / nForce 630a] video flicker on any I/O activity with nouveau; OK with nv driver

2018-05-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Schmitz:

1) To clarify, you tested the 64-bit variant (not 32-bit)?

2) Is using the nv driver still a usable WORKAROUND?

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

Expectation: Default Xorg driver should work with no video artifacts.

Observation: Bad screen flicker with default Xorg driver.

Details: I installed the 10.04 beta from CD on Wednesday (incidentially,
compliments for the smooth install). Already upon installation, the
display did flicker badly whenever the CD was read or even the mouse
moved. Flicker did already start at the initial splash screen. The
system was fully responsive otherwise. On reboot post-installation, gdm
came up OK but with the same flicker problems. The 'Monitors' control
panel only offered the 2048x1536 resolution at 80 Hz with no other
options. Tried to install and use one of the non-free nvidia drivers,
this failed because the nouveau kernel module was loaded always and
could not be unloaded (drm loads nouveau before framebuffer console
init. as near as I can make out). With nvidia-current unable to load,
- the X server could not use the 'nvidia' driver. Switching xorg.conf to
- use the 'nv' driver results in a much better screen display (only
- occasional flicker) although the driver only supports 2048x1536 at 60
- Hz. 1600x1200@85 Hz is useable.
+ the X server could not use the 'nvidia' driver.

[Bug 1768139] Re: Kernel crash when booting laptop with hdmi monitor connected

2018-05-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Sandy Patterson, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 4.15 to 4.17-rc7 in order to identify the last bad commit,
followed immediately by the first good one. Once this good commit has
been identified, it may be reviewed for backporting. Could you please do
this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions, or providing a commit
from a kernel version bisect is not fully commit bisecting.

Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of
bisecting.

It is most helpful that after the fix commit (not kernel version) has
been identified, you then mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1378997] Re: initial run of lxsession-default-apps is not populated with all the options

2018-05-20 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Actually, the reload button is for reloading the app, so that's
irrelevant.

** Summary changed:

- lxsession-default-apps reload button fails silently
+ initial run of lxsession-default-apps is not populated with all the options

** Description changed:

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
- 1. install sakura
- 2. load lxsession-default-apps
- 3. see that sakura is not listed under terminal emulator
- 4. hit reload

+ 1. load lxsession-default-apps
+ 2. see that lxterminal is not listed under terminal emulator
+ 3. reload lxsession-default-apps
+ 4. see that lxterminal is listed under terminal emulator

  EXPECTED RESULTS:
- The database update at the beginning of lxsession-default-apps as well as the
reload button should be sufficient to update the list of apps.
+ The database update at the beginning of lxsession-default-apps should be

  ACTUAL RESULTS:
- The reload button does nothing and it takes several database updates
sometimes to get the list of apps to correctly populate.

[Bug 1722185] Re: gnome-software (11) g_io_channel_shutdown → pk_client_helper_copy_stdout_cb → g_main_dispatch → g_main_context_dispatch → g_main_context_iterate

2018-05-20 Thread Robert Ancell
** Changed in: packagekit (Ubuntu Bionic)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Robert Ancell (robert-ancell)

** Summary changed:

- gnome-software (11) g_io_channel_shutdown → pk_client_helper_copy_stdout_cb →
g_main_dispatch → g_main_context_dispatch → g_main_context_iterate
+ Crash installing packages using debconf

** Description changed:

- Test Case:
+ [Impact]
+ Installing .deb package via PackageKit (e.g. using GNOME Software) don't work
reliably when the packages use debconf. This is due to a faulty implementation
of debconf handling in PackageKit.
+
+ [Test Case]
  1. Download opera deb file from opera.com
  2. Run the file to launch gnome-software
  3. Install it
  4. Proceed with the debconf prompt

- Actual result
- It hangs and generate this crashes when the user closes the debconf window.
+ Expected result:
+ A debconf dialog appears asking if you want to "update Opera with the rest of
the system?". The dialog closes when completed and the package is installed.

- The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding
gnome-software. This problem was most recently seen with package version
3.26.0-0ubuntu3, the problem page at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/f111546905209e7288c7f8ba5f8f19eea4d97bad
contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or
traceback, and individual crash reports.
- If you do not have access to the Ubuntu Error Tracker and are a software
developer, you can request it at http://forms.canonical.com/reports/.
+ Actual result:
+ The dialog shows, but never closes and becomes unresponsive. Force closing
the dialog causes a crash.

[Bug 1772348] [NEW] HP Laserjet M1212nf MFP also affected

2018-05-20 Thread SmilingInSeattle
Public bug reported:

Scanimage -L returns:

device `hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP?zc=NPI6A5943' is a
Hewlett-Packard HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1212nf_MFP all-in-one
as it always has when it was working.

Had the same problem in the beginning with Ubuntu 17.04, but then
somewhere along the correction stream it got magically "fixed" and
started working with simple-scan as well as xsane.

Using a dual boot to the current version allowed by the ARCH developers,
the scanner has, and still does, work. I do a pacman -Syu on ARCH at
least once a week, so I can attest to the "current" version of ARCH.

[Bug 1770913] Re: Software rendering is forced after 18.04 upgrade (Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 / GMA 4500MHD)

2018-05-20 Thread MegaBrutal
How can I switch to Wayland? Contrary to the articles those tell
otherwise, I have no option to select it on the login screen.

Anyway, 17.10 worked fine with Wayland, so switching back to Wayland
might probably help.

[Bug 1772271] Re: stuttering mouse movement after any shell window opens

2018-05-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We're working on a few fixes in this area:
https://trello.com/c/Q6JYXPPs

In the meantime I suggest trying the normal Ubuntu kernel, not
"lowlatency". In the past when I was investigating performance I found
the unexpected problem of the "lowlatency" kernel actually being higher
latency for graphics/input. Weird, I know.

[Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock

2018-05-20 Thread Hui Wang
@benste,

The log in the #67 looks good, I can't find problem in it.

After we confirmed this is a problem/regression, then reopen the status.
But I don't think the change can make line-out stop working if it works
before.

If you want line-out or headphone of dock station to work, after plug
it, please verify "pactl info" first, make sure the "Default Sink" is
"alsa_output.usb-Generic_USB_Audio..." instead of "alsa_output.pci-
_00_1f...", And if you want to change the default sink or the output
profile (headphone or lineout0 of usb dock, you can open sound-settings
to choose (system settings--->sound settings).

If the description of above doesn't work, please upload an alsa-info.txt
(run alsa-info.sh to generate alsa-info.txt).

thx.

[Bug 1772341] [NEW] WebkitGTK API documentation not appearing in Devhelp

Public bug reported:

I have libwebkit2gtk-4.0-doc 2.20.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 installed from

This is a regression from artful at least, and maybe from earlier

[Bug 1772339] [NEW] libx86emu1 package doesn't contain libx86emu1.so in cosmic

2018-05-20 Thread Evgeny Brazgin

$ dpkg -c libx86emu1_1.14-1_amd64.deb | grep so

./usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libx86emu.so. -> libx86emu.so.

Looks like packaging problem.

This prevents the app `hwinfo` from working.

[Bug 1768139] Re: Kernel crash when booting laptop with hdmi monitor connected

2018-05-20 Thread Sandy Patterson
1) This started when I did a clean install of 18.04. I was running 17.10
on the same hardware with the same kernel parameters (the
"acpi_osi=!Windows 2015"). I'm afraid I can't tell you which kernel
exactly, but I keep things up to date. I upgraded a few days before this
report. I think it was release day actually.

2) This issue appears fixed in mainline.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-20 Thread Jehandan Jeyaseelan
I have tested the login process as follows:

a) Install gdm3 from bionic-proposed version 3.28.0-0ubuntu1.1 - in Ubuntu
18.04 LTS and reboot.
b) When login screen appears, click on my username and enter incorrect password.
c) Enter correct password and press enter or click on sign in. Login successful.

However I have encountered the following issue:

a) Log out of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
b) Click on my username and enter my password correctly to login again and
click on sign in or press enter.

The login prompt freezes, cannot click on cancel or the signin button.
When I click on the button to perform a restart or shutdown, it
indicates that I am still logged in therefore there appears to be an
issue logging out.

I also confirm that the issue as reported by Bodlinux in post #60 also
occurs exactly as described.

In this case clicking on the button to perform a restart or shutdown
indicates that I am logged in but haven't moved past the login screen to
the desktop so again an issue there.

I have only installed the gdm3 update from bionic-proposed, do we need
additional updates in order for the login system to be tested properly
or will the gdm3 update suffice?

[Bug 1772338] [NEW] Deprecation warning compiling against unity.vapi

2018-05-20 Thread Michael Gratton
Public bug reported:

Vala 0.31.1 deprecated the "Deprecated" code attribute, replacing it
with "Version". The copy of unity.vapi shipped by libunity-dev in bionic
still uses the Deprecated attribute, however.

I.e. in unity.vapi:

[Deprecated (replacement = "AppInfoManager.get_default")]
public static Unity.AppInfoManager get_instance ();

Should instead be:

[Version (deprecated = true, replacement = "AppInfoManager.get_default")]
public static Unity.AppInfoManager get_instance ();

This causes a deprecation warning when compiling against it, regardless
of whether any deprecated calls are actually being made by the code
being compiled. While a minor issue, it would be good to have fixed
since it makes it impossible to develop against it with fatal warnings
enabled, which is bad for QA.

The Unity build seems to generate that file as per usual (as a valac
build artefact) so I would assume this should be fixed by a simple
rebuild using vala >= 0.31.1, but surely the version of libunity-dev
that shipped with bionic would have been rebuild against valac that
ships with bionic (0.40)? So I'm not sure why Deprecated is still
present in the vapi.

2018-05-20 Thread Walter Lapchynski
To be clear, I didn't say you're crazy, but that I can't reproduce this.
Maybe you should try following what I did in a clean system (try a
virtual machine)?

Meanwhile, just for my clarification, please give me the results of:
ls -ld

Re: [Bug 1754084] Re: Freecad crashes at start

2018-05-20 Thread hans schneidhofer
hi Jens, hi all,
thanks a lot for answering. In my case I had a fresh install of Xubuntu
18.04, so there was no old .config there.

First I installes Xubuntu and after next step I downloaded freecad-0.17
and installed it via dpkg -i.

But I got these known error as described.

Now I have found another "script" like this here :
LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=true ./FreeCAD-13522.glibc2.17-x86_64.AppImage

and it does the trick. Now it runs.
So far, I cannot find any problems due to the disabled LIBGL_DR3.
Maybe in further using freecad some behavior may appear.

Bye hans

  * These unexpected shutdowns do not occur for me at busy times for either the

Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's

more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Can confirm, this problem exists on GNU gdb (Ubuntu
7.7.1-0ubuntu5~14.04.3) 7.7.1

Compile:
gcc hello.c -g -o hello

run gdb:
gdb -tui hello

in gdb, start your program:
(gdb) run

displayed:
dl-debug.c:74 No such file or directory
dl-debug.c:74 No such file or directory
[Inferior 1 (process ) exited normally]

Do not get program output.

Starting gdb without -tui seems to work fine.

On Ubuntu Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

FYI, the "4.13.0-38.43" set of fixes referenced in the bug you mentioned
has been in Linux-azure since 4.13.0-1013. Looking at your trace, I
think the fsnotify/VFS race condition I referenced in the previous
comment may be more applicable.

My screen does lock when going to sleep, by I have gnome-screensaver
installed instead of xscreensaver. XFCE checks which screensaver you
have and calls that version prior to suspend for the lock screen. I have

[Bug 1772325] [NEW] Screen dims while a video is playing in VLC

2018-05-20 Thread Extremeadin
Public bug reported:

While playing a video with VLC when my laptop is using the battery, the
screen will dim after a couple of minutes. I was expecting it not to dim
while a video was playing. It should be noted that the screen does not
go blank or lock, so that seems to be working correctly. I'm not sure if
this is a bug with the power manager or another package.
