[Bug 1779613] [NEW] libgd2-xpm-dev is deprecated; should maybe be replaced with libgd-dev

2018-07-01 Thread Brandon Taylor
Public bug reported:

I'm attempting to build a newer version (2.2.3) of FCEUX. So I typed
into a terminal, "sudo apt build-dep fceux" but I got this error
message:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 builddeps:fceux : Depends: libgd2-xpm-dev but it is not installable

One search later, I found out that libgd2-xpm-dev has been deprecated

I'm in a office network of wich network's domain name was selected long
time ago and it included spaces in it. Ej. "Office C.V.".

Problem arises when you try to navigate the network using "smb://Office
C.V." but you can actually see the Network if you just type "smb://".

It seems that Konqueror (and Dolphin too) are unable to process the
space in the Domain name and fails to open it.

I've had problems mounting shares with spaces in fstab, but that can be
worked around by using "\040" instead of the spaces.

I've tried everything in Konqueror/Dolphin to access this network, some
attempts are:

* smb://Office\040C.V.
 Konqueror complains about wrong URL format
 Dolphin says it's an invalid URL

* smb://Office+C.V.
 Konqueror & Dolphin says that "server can't be contacted".

This is a big bug for me, as I have to do "smbtree" to find the individuals PC
on the network and use "smb://" to skip the domain issue.

But when it comes to someone having spaces in his network's name...
well, there I have to use fstab and the \040 trick.

That is impractical to do, it's as impractical as telling everyone to
change the domain name just because me.

[Bug 1779599] [NEW] Installation to USB HD (/dev/sdb) crashed on GRUB install failure

2018-07-01 Thread Deryk Durrant
Public bug reported:

GRUB EFI failed trying to install the x64 signed package - this error
appeared to be handled correctly by the routine (error was shown in
warning dialogue and OK button returned control to installer). However
this was immediately followed by a fatal (unknown) error which resulted
in the bug check.

Background
Booted EFI to Live USB Ubuntu 18.04 on system with HDD and external
unpartitioned HDD. Ran auto-install routine, but chose to partition external
HDD manually. Error received after acknowledging GRUB installation error
dialogue.

[Bug 1779597] [NEW] [Satellite P55W-C, Realtek ALC233, Speaker, Internal] Pulseaudio fails to detect card

2018-07-01 Thread Michael Chesterton
Public bug reported:

It's related to a JBL Flip 2 bluetooth speaker.

It worked perfectly in 16.04, in 18.04 the bluetooth speaker doesn't
reconnect after a laptop suspend/resume cycle, I need to delete it from
the bluetooth paired devices and repair it.

Often the output sound device is missing, it only shows dummy. If I
suspend while the bluetooth speaker is connected it's garanteed to
disappear, but it sometimes disappears after I turn off the bluetooth
speaker without suspending. Rebooting restores the output sound device
and the internal speaker starts working again.

I'm happy to provide further info and do some testing.

[Bug 1464064] Re: Ubuntu apt repos are not available via HTTPS

2018-07-01 Thread Yarwin Kolff
Is it me or are the people who defend Ubuntu's lack of security
deliberately avoiding the issue?

The checksums and ISO files on releases.ubuntu.com and
archive.ubuntu.com (and possibly more) are 100% vulnerable to MITM
attacks for *NON-APT USERS*.

Do not assume that the entire world is using APT... In fact, the
MAJORITY of people who downloaded Ubuntu did so using their browser.

All these people are at risk of running a compromised Ubuntu
installation.

You had the chance to fix this issue 3 years ago... I don't know what
else to say.

Hi gf,

Yes, I am the one... I had already forgotten about this one (and there
are probably many more in the limbo).

This one can be closed. I stopped using TB many years ago, and I am sure
this has been dealt with already,

I will leave the closing of this bug to you, as a good exercise. Pleas
do ping us at #ubuntu-bugs if you have any doubts (hint: close invalid,
cannot reproduce).

Cheers,

[Bug 1767181] Re: Upgrade to Bionic and USB audio devices no longer work

2018-07-01 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Can you do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the good version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the bad version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the
regression.

[Bug 1778323] Re: Touchpad doesn't work in 4.17 or later

2018-07-01 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Can you do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the good version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the bad version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the
regression.

[Bug 1769126] Re: SIMPLE-SCAN crashes when set to photo scanning

2018-07-01 Thread Chris Rainey
I found the solution, here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/simple-scan/+bug/1777268/comments/2

I just used the 'linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.0-1' installer and then
installed the newer 'brscan4-0.4.5-1.amd64.deb' over it.

I believe that rebooting or restarting the services after install _is_
required/helpful.

Good Luck!

[Bug 1779443] Re: esp partitions should be mounted with "discard" option where applicable

2018-07-01 Thread Tom Reynolds
On some Ubuntu systems I manage, I see regular writes to the /EFI/ubuntu
location with current file modification timestamps. On a multi boot
system, the content of the ESP can also change more often. So I would
say there seem to be regular writes, which means discard would make
sense.

Changing the default does not seem to make things worse, so I don't
understand an argument of it not being worth the change, unless you
think it takes a lot of effort to introduce and maintain this change
(why so)?

It appears your screen is 1366x768 and the CPU/GPU is an i5-4200U. I
would not expect any performance problems with those.

Can you please elaborate as to what you mean by "lagging"? Do you mean
everything is smooth but delayed? Or do you mean it is stuttering
(skipping frames)?

[Bug 740934] Re: thunderbird locks up, unable to browse folder structure

2018-07-01 Thread gf
Hello Steven,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.

You made this bug report in 2011 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 740934

and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.

[Bug 1779449] Re: package gdm3 3.28.2-3ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed gdm3 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10

2018-07-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1774039 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774039

Although your bug description:

  snapd.snap-repair.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting
it.

is about something different. See bug 1776622 for that one.
