I don't think this is a problem with shadow - it looks like that error
message is being given by pam. It makes a little more sense for
pam_chauthtok to give that error.

[Bug 1769501] Re: /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups assertion failure when plugging in a HP LaserJet M1132 MFP printer/scanner

2018-07-02 Thread srinivas
Hi Ian,

I see two devices when you do "scanimage -L".
See if you have two devices even when you do "hp-setup".
You can remove the below device using "hp-setup -r" and see if scan works.

device `hpaio:ect
hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1132_MFP?serial=0QH67JHFPR1a "HP
LaserJet Professional M1132 MFP" "HP LaserJet Professional M1132 MFP USB
0QH67JHFPR1a HPLIP" "MFG:Hewlett-Packard' is a Hewlett-Packard
HP_LaserJet_Professional_M1132_MFP all-in-one

Also you can try the below commands,

$ cd /usr/lib
$ sudo ln -s libhpmud.so.0 libhpmud.so

Thanks,
Srinivas Teja.

[Bug 684280] Re: casper toram forgets to disconnect loop device

2018-07-02 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Philip Susi: Confirmed with the Bionic live CD:

root@xubuntu:~# cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=(loop)/casper/vmlinuz boot=casper
iso-scan/filename=/linux/xubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso toram

root@xubuntu:~# umount /isodevice
umount: /isodevice: target is busy.

root@xubuntu:~# losetup -d /dev/loop0

root@xubuntu:~# umount /isodevice
(succeeds)

However, I did not observe the issue as originally reported; Ubiquity
was able to install the system even with /isodevice mounted and unable
to be unmounted. (In my case, the ISO file was on a USB thumbdrive, and
I installed to a hard drive.)

[Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update

2018-07-02 Thread Mark
I'm suffering this after this update too. It is the latest in a
depressingly long list of Ubuntu updates that have ed up my system.
You really *need* better testing of updates. If you can't improve the
testing then there needs to be a way to roll-back the system to before
an update.

Instead of the login screen I see the output of a log. Every item the
log is [ OK ] except for

[ .] A start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes
up (28s / no limit)[ OK ] Started Show Plymouth BootScreen.

The last entry is

[ OK ] Started GNOME DisplayManager. Dispatcher
Serviceupport.hanges.pp link was shut down.

lightdm is not working for me. Yes a login screen is displayed but after
login the screen goes black for quite some time then the login screen
reappears again. I am unable to use my system so this is a priority 1
bug for me.

[Bug 1779708] Re: My screen got deconfigurtated

2018-07-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Firstly, please take a photo of the problem and attach it here.

Secondly, it sounds like some part of the system has crashed. Please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
 ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
and tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the contents of the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id file on the
machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on the machine? If so
then please send them to us.

  cd /var/crash
  ls

If there are any crash files then you will need to be using the terminal

Re: [Bug 1777338] Re: Linux 4.15.0-23 crashes during the boot process with a "Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference" message

2018-07-02 Thread Adam Novak
Hello,

Thanks for putting this together. I tried to get the kernels you
built, but I'm having trouble establishing a secure (https) connection
to kernel.ubuntu.com. It looks like the server might not offer https.

Can you give me the expected hashes of the files so I can verify the
downloads?

Thanks,
-Adam

your testing we will not be able to proceed.

** Description changed:

After updating the kernel on my QEMU based VPS running 18.04 Server to
  kernel ver. 4.15.0-24.26 i noticed that php7.2-fpm.service was't
  starting:

  ● php7.2-fpm.service - The PHP 7.2 FastCGI Process Manager
 Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/php7.2-fpm.service; enabled; vendor

Setting timeout of php7.2-fpm.service to 300s i and running systemd-analyze
blame, after rebooting, i noticed that php7.2-fpm.service takes about 3 minutes
to start:
  sudo systemd-analyze blame

This issues is persistent when running kernel 4.15.0-24.26, i have tried
  multiple reboots.

After downgrading to Kernel ver. 4.15.0-23.25 the issues is gone.
Again I've tried multiple reboots of the server running 4.15.0-23.25 and
PHP7.2-fpm.service starts withing seconds after rebooting.

[Bug 1779780] Re: Electronics menu missing

2018-07-02 Thread Manfred
** Description changed:

After installing package kicad I found a nameless menu folder with kicad
entries. I found the reason is an missing file in /usr/share/desktop-
  directories: "Electronics.directory".

  /usr/share/applications/kicad.desktop contains the line
  Categories=Development;Electronics;
but menu category Electronics is invalid/missing
+
+ Or is it just the package extra-xdg-menus that's not installed by
+ default?

  Thanks. Manfred

[Bug 912262] Re: imap default folders not listed where expected

2018-07-02 Thread gf
Hi Patizio, I found many duplicate bugs submitted on this idea.

In May 2017, the Gnome bug team re-opened a ticket at the Gnome Bugzilla
bug tracker website that covers this topic. Your idea is a great one and
a lot of people would like to see this fixed. The ticket number at the
gnome website is:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202257

I will link your bug report to the gnome one, to allow the Ubuntu bug team to
keep informed and to make sure you get automatic updates on any changes at the
gnome bug site. I will also change the status to Confirmed.
Hopefully, they will add that feature soon.
Have a great day
:)
G

[Bug 1779782] [NEW] package poppler-utils 0.41.0-0ubuntu1.7 failed to install/upgrade: El paquete está en un estado grave de inconsistencia - debe reinstalarlo antes de intentar su configuración.

2018-07-02 Thread Mari Carmen
Public bug reported:

Hi. I have no idea what this is. Apparently everything is fine, no crashes at
all. Since I upgraded (always in Terminal) this issue pop's up when I restart
the pc.
My computer knowledge is really low, so I hope you can detect if it's a bug or
not.

Sorry if I waisted your time. I was uncertain if this is important or
not.

Have a nice day.
Kind regards from Spain.
