Kernel module crash after dist-upgrade from 18.04 to 18.10. This happens
after every boot. I rebuild dkms modules twice. Everything else runs
smoothly :-)

[Bug 1730211] Re: Unable to type capital letters using onscreen keyboard

2018-11-06 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
Test passed with the following procedure:

1. clean install oem-image
2. reproduce that on-screen keyboard can't send capital letters.
3. enable the proposed channel, `apt-get install mutter` and it upgrades

gir1.2-mutter-2, libmutter-2-0, mutter-common and mutter

4. log out and re-login.
5. check on-screen keyboard and it can send capital letters now.

[Bug 1795292] Re: ELAN469D touch pad not working

2018-11-06 Thread Patrick Van Oosterwijck
I tried the 4.15.0-39 kernel. It still doesn't work but there's a
difference in the dmesg output, which I attached. This message is new /
different:

[2.908167] i2c_hid i2c-ELAN469D:00: hid_descr_cmd failed

This kernel did, as before with other 4.15 kernels, fix the microphone input
problem I reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1796582

Kinda disappointed that no progress was made yet on that bug, since 4.15
provides a working reference. Any of the other people here with the
same laptop have the non-working microphone as well in 4.18 and 4.19?
If so, please add your voice to that bug.

[Bug 1801716] Re: Xorg freeze (black screen after ubuntu logo during boot)

2018-11-06 Thread Benjamin Li
I am so so so sorry for I made a mistake of selecting the wrong kernel
with the wrong architecture to install, which lead to all those error
messages during boot in v4.19. (My laptop should install the kernel with
architecture amd64 but I installed i386, I am so sorry for making things
more complicated, SORRY!!!)

Anyway, I "apt purge" the wrong kernel (4.19 with architecture i386) and
just installed the proper one(architecture amd64).

However! The issue in the v4.17 remain in the 4.19! I don't see anything
improve in my situation, I still can't get in the system, getting stuck
in the black screen after the Ubuntu logo during the boot, I can only
access the system in recovery mode; the brightness of my display can't
be adjusted; the setting for my display still says "Unknown Display",
and the laptop can't get back if I put the whole system into sleep
mode(by turn off the display)

Any idea? Please help Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1767556] Re: Screen goes blank after booting

2018-11-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the additional information about the Asus R554LA.

Unfortunately it appears Manoz has reported this bug from a different
machine (TP550LAB) so all the attached system information is not
relevant to the reported problem.

I suggest someone please open a new bug using an actual R554LA.

[Bug 1802036] [NEW] postinst's parsing of mailman3-web.py is brittle

2018-11-06 Thread Paul Collins
Public bug reported:

The postinst script parses mailman3-web.py with sed, and relies on the
"ADMIN" value looking like this:

ADMINS = (
 ('Mailman Suite Admin', 'r...@lists.admin.staging.canonical.com'),
)

i.e. a) "Mailman Suite Admin" must be present and b) the closing paren
must be left-aligned.

The mailman3-web charm writes the file in the following perfectly valid
Python:

ADMINS = (
('Mailman Web Admin', 'r...@lists.staging.canonical.com'),
)

but which violates a) (wrong text) and b) (closing paren is indented).

We can fix this particular point in the charm but ideally the package
would be able to cope with any valid Python syntax.

[Bug 1767556] Re: Screen goes blank after booting

2018-11-06 Thread Iron Davey
I'm having the same problem too after just upgrading to 18.04 on my
R554LA hardware. I've found that sometimes I actually see the login
screen, but then it immediately goes blank - as if the screen was turned
off using the blank display keys (Fn+F7). Once this happens, if I plug
in an HDMI cable connected to my TV, the screen turns on again, and will
remain on once I unplug the HDMI cable. This will survive a sleep/wakeup
event but not a reboot.

In my Xorg.0.log file, I see HDMI getting enabled (not sure if this is a
cause, an effect, or not relevant):

I run a BOINC project which uses opencl_intel on my Kubunut system

On bioinc the tasks ran in 12,000 +/- 200 seconds.
They've been doing that for ~6 months.

I've now updated the system to cosmic, and the task are not taking
  19,000 +/- 200s.

I have another system (which is still running Mint18.3 - and hasn't
changed) which also runs these tasks and the timings there have not
