[Bug 1732411] Re: On upgrade, daemon-reexec should only be issued if safe

2018-11-13 Thread Pierre Schweitzer
A fix [1] in LXC was pushed recently and actually allows systemd daemon-
reexec without the cap sys_admin in a container.

We tested that it totally solved the issue for us.
Would it possible to move this bug report to the LXC project? And to ask for a
backport of such fix to Xenial LXC?

Thanks!

[Bug 1801037] Re: Touchpad not working at all ubuntu beaver

2018-11-13 Thread t.felder via ubuntu-bugs
Hello
I had a few problem with this upstream kernel.
Somehow I could not boot anymore and often got at the bootup to error message :
Gnome display manager. Dispatcher service... tpacpi::kbd_backlight

I reinstalled gdm3 and after a reboot, i could boot the computer. The
boot took however very long and still got stucked for a while (but i
did't looked at the command line)

But the touchpad now works and i can use the right click (Y)
Thanks

If I manage to reproduce the booting bug, I'll publish a new bug with more
informations

** Description changed:

Hello, I have seen different report of user regarding the right click
not working when pressing on the bottom of the touchscreen.

I however have a completely different problem.

- The touchpad is not working at all.
+ The touchpad is not working at all.
I cannot scroll. (no matter the configuration, the number of fingers or the
place of my fingers)
I cannot do a right-click (no matter the configuration in tweeks)
And the pointer randomly jump somewhere in the screen when I try pressing
with two fingers.

I previously had ubuntu 14.04 LTS which was perfectly working. After the
upgrade to 18.04 LTS this bug directly affected me. I really cannot use
my computer at all without right click.

Thanks for the fixing of this bug.

[Bug 1803078] Re: Screensaver unlock screen shown twice after playing video

2018-11-13 Thread Amir
It may be considered a bug in Totem, actually. Is it OK for it to ask
D-Bus to launch the Gnome screensaver in the first place, while not
running in a Gnome session?

+Bastien Nocera, what do you think[1]?

[Bug 1789356] Re: Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly during the login animation since Yaru was introduced

2018-11-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I found the problem yesterday.

The regression is that the gradient (which didn't appear at all before)
now only occupies the middle 50% of the screen. This means it looks
squashed and different to the login screen. The top and bottom 25% of
the screen are solid colours.

It looks like a problem with texture coordinates and GL clamp-to-edge,
since the gradient is really only a 1x2 two pixel texture rendered with
linear filtering.

** Tags added: regression-release

** Summary changed:

- Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly during the login animation
since Yaru was introduced
+ The wrong background flashes up briefly during the login animation since Yaru
was introduced

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

- Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly (for a split second) during
the login animation.
+ The wrong background flashes up briefly (for a split second) during the login
animation.
The login screen and gnome-shell's system background are meant to be the same
image so that the login procedure can VT switch without the user noticing. Then
the final desktop expands over the system background. However it appears the
login background and system background are not the same image any more, causing
a visible glitch during login.

  [Test Case]

  1. Install new version, logout
  2. Log in into GDM
-> Check that at login startup, the background matches GDM ones (same color,
same gradient)
  3. Logout, install gnome-session
  4. Reboot so that GDM takes gnome-session into account
  5. Select GNOME session and login
-> At login startup, the background will matche the GNOME default one (from
the lockscreen: grey noise), which matches GDM one if reset to default GNOME
via update-alternatives.

  [Regression Potential]

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2018-11-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't know what I was thinking... This bug is clearly declared fixed
in 18.04 already:

gjs (1.52.1-1ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=medium

  * Add fix-crashes-lp1763878-revert-575f1e2e077.patch to fix shutdown
crashes (LP: #1763878)
  * Add some patches to solve large memory leaks (LP: #1672297)
- fix-leaks-lp1672297-1-context-Add-API-to-force-GC-schedule.patch
- fix-leaks-lp1672297-2-object-Queue-a-forced-GC-when-toggling-down.patch
- Note: More such patches are under review so this list may grow in future.

[Bug 1803268] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.10 after Blank Screen System Will NOT Unblank

2018-11-13 Thread Lawrence Houston
Public bug reported:

Toshiba Satellite C650 (embedded Intel HD Graphics 3000) running Xubuntu
18.10. Once the Toshiba's Screen has Blanked, it will not unblank with
normal Keystrokes or Mouse Events.

My "Work around": Plugging an External Monitor into the Satellite C650's
VGA Port, which will then unblank the Toshiba's Screen!!!

The trackpad of my Lenovo E531 Thinkpad Edge works when logged into
18.10. When you close the lid the laptop normally goes into suspend (in
18.04), but fails to suspend in 18.10. The trackpad becomes unresponsive
after the lid has been closed and the lid is opened again. See the
response from dmesg below. Funny thing: This error does not occur when
the power button is pressed and the trackpad is responsive (because a
suspend was not attempted via the lid).

  I am using version: Ubuntu 4.18.0-10.11-generic 4.18.12

  According to dmesg:

[ 650.163700] Freezing remaining freezable tasks ... (elapsed 0.001 seconds)
done.
  [ 650.165107] Suspending console(s) (use no_console_suspend to debug)

  [ 650.166820] rmi4_physical rmi4-00: Failed to suspend functions: -6

  I have tried the following:
  - Update grub
  - Reinstalled xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
  - Disabled the trackpad via Gnome
  - Updated the BIOS to the latest available version

This issue has only occured since I upgraded from 18.04 to 18.10.

It would be great if 18.10 could suspend when the lid is closed.
