Nor for the cosmic version where we provided the same fix, so I think we

[Bug 1752961] Re: With kernel 4.13 btrfs scans for devices before all devices have been discovered

It looks like I made a mistake on a previous build. I retested d60dafd,
built on 20180911, and it actually does have the bug. Sorry!

(Being an apparent race condition, a buggy kernel actually does work
sometimes.)

[Bug 1803132] Re: virtualbox 0day exploit

2018-11-14 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:

*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Alex Murray (alexmurray):

@MorteNoir1 published a 0day exloit against virtualbox that allows
escaping the VM.

This is a major vulnerability.

oracle just released 5.2.22 which seems to fix the vulnerability
https://github.com/MorteNoir1/virtualbox_e1000_0day/issues/12

Altough this is not aknowledge in the offical changelog, the sec dev
that creates the 0day exploits explains that 5.2.22 fixes the 0day
vulnerability.

Please upgrade to 5.2.22 on all ubuntu version to fix that big hole.

[Bug 1725546] Re: Disable noise on login screen background

2018-11-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
"Won't Fix" unfortunately.

Not because 17.10 is past EOL, but because the decision was taken to use
a gradient as the background starting in 18.10. This at least means this
bug title is now out of date.

[Bug 1769631] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2018-11-14 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From ryou...@us.ibm.com 2018-11-14 21:40 EDT---
Sorry, I have not had time to get back to this one yet.

The suggestion was to setup 389 manually. However there is no
documentation that I found on how to setup 389 manually to be used by
FreeIPA.

The "setup" is part of the freeipa provided scripts. The instructions I
find all say to run the freeipa scripts that set everything up for you
automatically.

[Bug 1803476] [NEW] After reboot, snap-confine has elevated permissions and is not confined but should be

After a reboot, eclipse now has this error:

[Bug 1803363] Re: The default shortcut for taking a screenshot kills X

2018-11-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please run this command to send us more information about the system:

  apport-collect 1803363

Also...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1803353] Re: Display freezes (possible i915 freeze/hang)

2018-11-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like the kernel is running out of memory so freezes are
expected. Please try running without all those chrome and opera tabs
open and see if the problem reoccurs.

If you can't add more physical RAM then consider adding a swapfile to
the system: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq You may also want
to consider reinstalling the OS with a large swap partition enabled.

[Bug 1803363] [NEW] The default shortcut for taking a screenshot kills X

2018-11-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was looking for the default key for taking a screenshot from
Unity/GNOME settings and found a list of keyboard shortcuts (as in the
attached screenshot).

It turns out that Ctrl+Alt+Print also happens to kill X by default.

This is not optimal:-)

[Bug 1803474] [NEW] ELANTECH touchpad detected as PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse on Compaq Presario 21-N1F3AR

2018-11-14 Thread Florencia
Public bug reported:

Hello, I formerly had installed Ubuntu 18.04 with the same problem, my
touchpad was detected as a generic PS2 mouse so I thought that if I
upgraded my Ubuntu version (currently 18.10) my problem would be solved.
I tried several fixes that I found on different forums with my previous
version but they didn't work. I'm not an advanced user and I was looking
forward to finally switch to linux but this is a big problem for me. I
attached some files except cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log > Xorg.0.log

cat: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: No existe el archivo o el directorio (missing

[Bug 1791806] Re: alsa does not detech headphone output on Clevo P651RS laptop

2018-11-14 Thread Felipe Ortega
Hello Lehel,

Indeed, you are right. My output is different from yours, and I get what
you indicate in your previous message. However, the result is quite
similar because my headphones jack does not work at all (no plug in
detection, no sound) and the model came from the same original
manufacturer (Clevo).

Today, I applied another update to the kernel (where I think is the main
problem) and the ubuntu-drivers package (probably related, but not very
likely). After reboot, the headphones worked again. Then, I decided to
suspend and resume to check if the headphones still worked. This time, I
did not tested the simultaneous connection headphones + ext. mic. No
luck, though. The headphones stopped working again.

I am not sure if the root cause is the same for your bug and mine, but I
am pretty sure at this point that there is a problem with the
snd_hda_codec driver at kernel level. So far, the repeating cycle is:

- I apply a new kernel update, then reboot.
- After first reboot, I have again sound through the headphones connection.
Quality is really superb, much better than line out (not sure if due to lower
impedance of headphones jack or because the driver was improved).
- If I suspend and resume, the headphones connection stops working again.
- After next reboots, the headphones do not work at all anymore.

My guess is that we can only patiently wait for some kernel developer to
take a look at this at some point, and deliver a solution upstream, that
can be then transferred to Ubuntu users.

For now, I will have to settle for using the line out to listen to
spotify in the library while working.

Best regards,
Felipe.

[Bug 1690051] Re: pulseaudio crashed with SIGSEGV in publish_service() from once_callback() from dispatch_defer() from pa_mainloop_dispatch() from pa_mainloop_iterate()

2018-11-14 Thread Owen Williams
>From my own debugging, the crash appears to be in this line:

if (!s->userdata->client || avahi_client_get_state(s->userdata->client) !=
AVAHI_CLIENT_S_RUNNING)
return;

adding a check for !s->userdata seems to fix the issue (for some reason,
probably due to a race condition, userdata is null at the time of the
call).
