[Bug 1803807] [NEW] Lock screen doesn't work in 18.10

2018-11-16 Thread Andras Veto
Public bug reported:

Super+l needs to be pressed twice to lock the screen. Pressing the
shortcut only once results in strange behavior. Locking the screen in
general is buggy (e.g. dock is visible when screen is locked, once
screen is unlocked the dock disappears even after pressing activities).
These issues were not present in 18.04. I am on a fresh install of 18.10
with gnome.

The lock screen should maintain the functionality present in 18.04. Pressing
the shortcut once should lock the screen, no ui elements should remain on the
locked screen, locking and unlocking the screen should not result in the dock
disappearing.
4)
The lock screen no longer works. It is possible to view and interact with ui
elements after pressing the lock shortcut. It is possible to view the dock when
the screen is locked.

[Bug 1803805] [NEW] grub-pc fails to install on the last of multiple devices

2018-11-16 Thread Richard Laager
Public bug reported:

When installing grub-pc to multiple devices, it fails installing on the
last device. For the failing device, all of the errors show a stray
comma at the end of the device name.

This is occurring because install_devices is a multiselect, and the
results are separated by commas. There is a comma at the end too. This
ends up being interpreted as part of the device name. The package has
code to remove the commas in the middle, but it does not remove the
comma at the end.

To reproduce this after the first failure, I had to do this (where that device
is the _last_ device, on which the install is failing):
grub-install /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST4000NM0035-1V4107_ZC18GCZ3 &&
DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc

In the installed package's grub-pc.postinst, or the source package's
debian/postinst.in, this is the code in question (indentation reduced 8 spaces):
failed_devices=
for i in `echo $RET | sed -e 's/, / /g'` ; do
  real_device="$(readlink -f "$i")"
  if grub-install --target=i386-pc --force --no-floppy $real_device ; then
# We just installed GRUB 2; then also generate grub.cfg.
touch /boot/grub/grub.cfg
  else
failed_devices="$failed_devices $real_device"
  fi
done

For testing, I added a couple of echo statements:
 failed_devices=
+echo RET: $RET
 for i in `echo $RET | sed -e 's/, / /g'` ; do
   real_device="$(readlink -f "$i")"
+ echo REAL: $real_device
   if grub-install --target=i386-pc --force --no-floppy $real_device ; then
 # We just installed GRUB 2; then also generate grub.cfg.
 touch /boot/grub/grub.cfg
   else
 failed_devices="$failed_devices $real_device"
   fi
 done

This is the output:

debconf (developer): <-- GET grub-pc/install_devices
debconf (developer): --> 0 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST4000NM0035-1V4107_ZC18FT84,

debconf (developer): <-- SUBST grub-pc/install_devices_failed FAILED_DEVICES
/dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST4000NM0035-1V4107_ZC18GCZ3,

The issue is definitely the comma at the end.

To fix the issue, I changed the sed line to be like this:
for i in `echo $RET | sed -e 's/,\( \|$\)/ /g'` ; do

This strips the comma at the end, not just those in the middle (commas
followed by spaces).

Alternatively, if you prefer sed -E instead of backslashes for parens, this
also works:
for i in `echo $RET | sed -E 's/,( |$)/ /g'` ; do
or if -e is important, this also works:
for i in `echo $RET | sed -Ee 's/,( |$)/ /g'` ; do

[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-11-16 Thread Thusitha Chandrapala
I have the issue as well. I have a dual boot system with following.
Zenbook UX490UAR
Ubuntu 18.04.1
Windows 10

I think this is due to windows not properly shutting down and holding on
to a hardware device, although not sure how. Managed to resolve by a
full shutdown. i.e. go to shutdown on the windows start menu and hold
shift while pressing restart. A screen will appear where you can select
to shutdown.

After the restart and logging into ubuntu, sound works .
For the volume control related bug, there was a guide here :

[Bug 1802382] Re: [860399.181468] watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#4 stuck for 23s! [kworker/4:2:9700]

2018-11-16 Thread alperyilmaz
Unfortunately, this bug is not reproducible, I don't know how to induce it. And
it happens occasionally. It happened one more time after initial bug report.
So, twice in 10 days or so.
I am willing to test the upstream kernel but I don't know how long would I need
to wait for bug to re-appear. And, it will be very hard for me distinguish if
the absence of the bug is due to:
* bug fix, OR
* bug waiting long to re-appear

As far as I remember, there was no system upgrade before the event.
Again, I'm not so certain about it because it might have been introduced
by an earlier update/upgrade and waited long to appear.

[Bug 1803804] Re: Recommends: ssh-import-id missing in openssh 1:7.9p1-1

2018-11-16 Thread Steve Langasek
printf debugging of debian/rules shows that $(UBUNTU) is set to the
literal string:

  dpkg-vendor --derives-from  && echo yes || echo no

That seems unexpected. It seems /usr/share/dpkg/vendor.mk is incorrect
about the usage of dpkg_vendor_derives_from and that this has never
worked as advertised, but that openssh in disco has switched to using
this function for the first time, introducing the regression.

[Bug 1803804] [NEW] Recommends: ssh-import-id missing in openssh 1:7.9p1-1

2018-11-16 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

ssh-import-id shows on http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive
/component-mismatches as wanting demotion to universe. This is because
openssh-server in disco has dropped its Recommends on this package,
which appears to be a misbuild.

>From the build log, I see:

dh_gencontrol -- -V'openssh-server:Recommends='

But debian/rules has:

ifeq ($(UBUNTU),yes)
server_recommends := ssh-import-id
else
server_recommends :=
endif

[...]
override_dh_gencontrol:
dh_gencontrol -- -V'openssh-server:Recommends=$(server_recommends)'

So this is supposed to be set but isn't.

[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2018-11-16 Thread Guy Rouillier
Ugh, partial retraction. The above solution works for reboot, but not
for shutdown. I managed to get one shutdown session to show me the
console, and the final statement was something like "poweroff reached",
and then it just sits there forever.

[Bug 1760724] Re: Konqueror becomes a zombie process after being closed.

2018-11-16 Thread Ron Widell
I had the same issue, and posted to the ubuntu forum.
The solution for me was to go to Settings->Configure Konqueror->Performance and
uncheck the box "Always try to have one preloaded instance".

After logging out and back in to get kdeinit5 reloaded, I can launch
Konqueror multiple times per session, and there is no longer a zombie
process.

Many thanks.

This has fixed the problem.

(I am attempting to extract a lot of reluctant uses from Microsoft and the
last remaining issue not surprisingly is the Access database.)

[Bug 1803792] [NEW] Can't pin/keep/lock Quod Libet 4.2 to docks using bamf

2018-11-16 Thread Alexander Browne
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading the music player Quod Libet to the latest version (4.2,
via ppa:lazka/ppa), I there's no option to pin it to the MATE dock
applet. I'm using 18.10, and I also tried Plank. A Quod Libet developer
confirmed the issue as well in Unity on 16.04. AFAICT, these three docks
all use bamf.

Since all earlier versions of Quod Libet work fine, I posted a bug with
them (https://github.com/quodlibet/quodlibet/issues/3029), but there are
no reports of any issue with it from other docks/shells, like GNOME
Shell or Plasma, so maybe it's a bug with bamf?

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-11-16 Thread Vitaliy Kraynov
My laptop is MSI GE60 0NC
CPU: Intel i5-3210M, GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M
Running Kubuntu 18.10

As in comment
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-prime/+bug/1778011/comments/13
my laptop has a led indicating if Nvidia GPU is on and according to it Nvidia
GPU does not power off when I select Intel GPU.
Also tested on Kubuntu 18.04 (without "proposed" repository), same issue.

Description:
When tools/options/internet/email is set to /usr/bin/claws-mail, send by email
fails. If it's unsert, to allow a default of xdg-email, it still fails, and if
it's explicitly set to /usr/bin/xdg-email it still does not work. Trying to
Send now leaves me in limbo, somewhere between LO and my email client (Claws),
with neither having focus, so alt-tab gets me nowhere until I manually reassert
focus on one or the other.
Build ID: 1:6.0.2~rc1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1~lo1
on Ubunto 16.04.4 LTS

Help (on tools/options/internet/email) is not at all helpful,
and Browse isn't either - on my system it includes claws-mail.

If I select xdg-email, then I get the same result s for Claws.
xdg-email --attach works fine for me from the command line.

If AppArmor has to be enforced, then suitable documentation should be
provided for new users. It seems that security is now a step ahead of
usability?

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Set email cliednt (tools/options) to claws-mail or xdg-email
2.send (current) document as attachment
3.

Actual Results:
Neither LO nor email client has focus, and nothing happens

Expected Results:
Document should be properly attached to n (draft) email

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
Always worked fine until 6.0

Send by email still fails in 6.1.1.2.
This is disappointing, since 'sending' a document is a basic operation, which
users would naturally expect. As noted, this all worked prior to 6.0, so it's
a regression.

I see a similar report on Apache OpenOffice, also on the Ubuntu bug reports.
Following a hint from the latter, I deleted the entry "/usr/bin/claws-mail" in
Tools/Options/Internet/Email and tried again to send a document. This time no
error was reported to the GUI, but I'd called soffice from the commandline, and
there an error had appeared "/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/senddoc: 361:
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/senddoc: /usr/bin/claws-mail: Permission denied"

A long listing shows
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3950472 Dec 17 2017 /usr/bin/claws-mail
which looks ok?

I'll restore the setting in Tools/Options, since a visible error message
is better than an invisible one!

/usr/bin/claws-mail --attach
/tmp/lu35337hoq3k.tmp/lu35337hoq3n.tmp/errors_090715.odt
(all on one line).

A further edit to 'ls' the attachment file gave
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/senddoc: 363:
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/senddoc: ls: Permission denied

Running the claws-mail command from the commandline (while LO was still
open) gave a similar result: file does not exist, or no permission.

Doing 'ls -l' from the command line shows the file still existing, with
directory permissions restricted to me as the owner.

A permissions problem, then? But I can't see what it is.

[Bug 1801134] Re: /etc/resolv.conf broken in Xenial minimal

2018-11-16 Thread Cody Shepherd
** Description changed:

DNS was broken in Xenial minimal images under some circumstances due to
  a 0-byte /etc/resolv.conf file.

  [Test Case]
  Build Xenial Minimal Image
Check /etc/resolv.conf and confirm it is a symlink and not a 0-byte file.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Regression would manifest in inability to do name resolution completely.
+
+ Although a 0-byte /etc/resolv.conf does currently prevent name
+ resolution, it can be repaired by running `# dhclient`.
+
+ An example of a regression would potentially be that the above
+ workaround is no longer effective.

[Bug 1803392] Re: Kernel 4.15.0-39.42 not compatible with Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377

2018-11-16 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I also started a kernel bisect between Ubuntu-4.15.0-38 and
Ubuntu-4.15.0-39. The kernel bisect will require testing of about 7-10
test kernels.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
125291b1852e43501135f787adf03fa590e33f59

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1803392

If -proposed still exhibits the bug, can you test that kernel and report
back if it has the bug or not? I will build the next test kernel based
on your test results.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1803791] [NEW] nemo mounts nfs share with read only access

2018-11-16 Thread Ross
Public bug reported:

When mounting a NFS share either manually or through fstab the directory
shows has a padlock which results in a read only state for the first
directory level; however any directories within the first directory can
be wrote to.

This issue does not happen within the terminal (with standard user
permissions) or using a different file manager, for example, pcmanfm as
the mounted share is writable folder across all directory levels.

Note: I encountered the same issue with nautilus.

[Bug 1803786] [NEW] ubuntu-support-status should report 10 years of support for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2018-11-16 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

OpenStack Summit Berlin 2018, Mark Shuttleworth keynote posted on

https://blog.ubuntu.com/2018/11/15/openstack-summit-berlin-mark-
shuttleworth

contains 10 years of support for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS:

“I’m also delighted to announce that Ubuntu 18.04 will be supported for
a full 10 years. In part because of the very long time horizons in some
of those industries, financial services and telecommunications, but also
in the IoT where manufacturing lines are being deployed that will be in
production for at least a decade.”

Please include the corresponding message into the output of `ubuntu-
support-status` to inform users about EOL on 2028 year.
