[Bug 1800101] Re: gnome-shell uses 100% CPU
I had high CPU and unresponsive gnome desktop on older Ubuntu virtual machine that was upgraded to 18.04 LTS from earlier past LTS versions on VirtualBox 5.2.18 or earlier running on Windows 10. The high gnome-shell CPU and unresponsiveness was randomly triggeded eg. by resizing application windows. I was able to switch to text virtual terminal using Ctrl-Alt-Fn and the gnome-shell CPU load decreased while in text mode. It has not occurred since I changed using gnome-tweaks the application appearance to Adwaita. I recently installed a new 18.04 LTS that also became unresponsive at similar application or VirtualBox window resize. I am not 100% sure if this is same problem as I have VirtualBox 5.2.22 now and I was unable to change to text virtual terminal after VirtualBox window resize. This hang happened at least on VirtualBox windows resize. The virtual machine was able to shutdown through ACPI. I changed to Adwaita from Ambience and now I have been able to change window sizes without hang. Due to randomness, hard to say this problem is completely gone by theme change. gnome-tweaks shows no extensions enabled. Now at gnome-shell 3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1. VirtualBox has 3D acceleration enabled, no 2D acceleration. I had a similar problem building on one machine and had to work through the missing packages to get a (nearly) complete build. Building on a fresh install of Ubuntu Xenial worked much better, without the problems of missing/mismatched packages. In both cases, I ended up with 7 deb files which installed and worked fine. The final perarch deb build failed, but doesn't seem to affect my system in any way that I've found so far. If anyone knows whether that's a problem, I'd like to know... [Bug 1755490] Re: Incorrect information about display shown in gnome/unity-control-center
The xenial SRU was not accepted yet because it's blocked by another SRU that needs to be verified (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity- settings-daemon/15.04.1+16.04.20160701-0ubuntu2) and is already in proposed. We lack the hardware/Tester for that verification but since we know it's working on bionic and the update doesn't create a regression I've tagged it verified now, which should unblock the fix here -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755490 Title: Incorrect information about display shown in gnome/unity-control- center To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hwdata/+bug/1755490/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1804588] [NEW] Power consumption during s2idle is higher than long idle (Intel SSDPEKKF)
Public bug reported: [Impact] On new systems that facilitate s2idle, we observed the power consumption raises higher than long idle does during s2idle with Intel NVMe SSDPEKKF. Short idle: 6 Long idle: 2 S2I: 4.8 [Fix] Windows doesn't put nvme to D3 in modern standby, and uses its own APST feature to do the power management. To leverage its APST feature during s2idle, we can't disable nvme device while suspending, too. So, here is what we did on the driver, 1. prevent nvme from entering D3, 2. prevent nvme from being disabled when suspending. [Test] Verified on the new Intel NVMe, it fixes the power consumption issue with no regression. And the power consumption decreases to 2.8W during s2idle. [Regression Potential] Low, the patches only applied to specific nvme module, and from our test, the system is still stable. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1804588 Title: Power consumption during s2idle is higher than long idle (Intel SSDPEKKF) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1804588/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In the second run, the cancel_time has been updated to the time of the creation of the job which is wrong. There is now an individual cancellation time for each job, which is initialized to MaxJobTime if it's not explicitely set. See printers.c around line 3450: --- if (!cupsGetOption("job-cancel-after", p->num_options, p->options)) ippAddInteger(p->attrs, IPP_TAG_PRINTER, IPP_TAG_INTEGER, "job-cancel-after-default", MaxJobTime); --- So if MaxJobTime is set to 0 - which means never to kill the job - the default for job-cancel-after is set to 0 - which means to kill the job immediately. [Bug 1804554] Re: 18.10: lubuntu sddm crashes with openbox session
I've added another user and no difference. Can easily toggle between them. I'm using a fresh install, as well. I am on a virtual machine, but that shouldn't matter, unless there's some problem with the physical hardware, such as some sort of graphics driver. If you do have such a problem, I would expect you to have the same issue if you booted the installation media, logged out, select the Openbox session and tried to log in again (the password is blank, so just go to the password area and hit enter). You might want to look in /var/log. Certainly, start with sddm.log. Failing that, you can look in syslog or dmesg. It's also possible to look at Xorg.0.log but I think that's unlikely given that X is already started. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1804554 Title: 18.10: lubuntu sddm crashes with openbox session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-session/+bug/1804554/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1803848] Re: Playing video on chrome freezes frequently (Too slow to catch up)
Ok, i have tracked down the issue, for later reference, you can read it: https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/08/how-to-enable-hardware-accelerated.html https://askubuntu.com/questions/1066105/how-to-install-amd-graphic-drivers-on-ubuntu-18-04 First of all, i have two cards in my machine HD5500 - R7 M260 (Topaz) Unfortunately ubuntu 18.04.1 does not pick up mesa at default, and it needs to be installed separately. It was installed before, but the official amd-gpu was a crap, i was not able to login, so i installed the linux and amd-gpu version back and forth, and with bionic beaver it just didn't happen automatically. When the ubuntu 18.04 upgrade was coming, my GPU card was disappeared very likely. I do remember that it was there on the lspci list. The post was right, vp8/vp9 hardware acceleration just not supported by my card (i had to instal the h264ify plugin), and i had to install latest dev chromium to make some progress. Now my CPU is not used at all, steady 6%, however neither ubuntu nor latest released chrome is not there yet to avoid tweaking. This youtube video is a very good test on 1080p, on chrome it simply kills my PC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqeW9_5kURI Although my CPU is not used at all, the lagging hasn't disappeared. I think when it's buffering the CPU goes high. (30-40%) I have read also about some VPN throttling. I'm not just using youtube. I have made the apport-collect ** Description changed: Latest update of ubuntu made some strange problems: system-udev made a high CPU usage on nvidia, i have made a restart on the udev, thus i have decided to bleach it and run the following commands: sudo systemctl start systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-udevd-control.socket sudo systemctl stop systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-udevd-control.socket It solved some of the flickering problem, but it did not disappear. I'm running on 120Hz, sometimes the screen resolution has been changed so quickly on boot, that i have noticed lines at the bottom of my screen. (like in a bad monitor) Why ubuntu needs to change that so frequently, it just amortize the graphics card. The real issue is that my video playback youtube / scolling main site of origo.hu (local news portal) etc. flickering frequently. It is too slow to catch up. Suddenly stops, and after 2-3 seconds it restarts. It only happens on chrome seems to me, and does not happen when i disabling gpu. https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=906861#c8 As a matter of fact, my CPU usage is not that much with or without gpu, so on gnome-shell some optimization needs to happen. Why i have GPU acceleration, if the gnome-shell swallows the benefit? On firefeox it does not happen, but the WebConsole CPU usage is 3 times more than in chrome. (70-80% on a full hd video, which is burning up all my cpu time, so it cannot be the solution to jump to firefox) Other thing is that the cooler less frequently making noise without gpu, even if the CPU has got higher load. If the cooler is running on high frequency, i hardly able to work. The non-accelerated Chrome CPU usage is half of the accelerated firefox cpu usage. I have posted the problem on both side, because i have a feeling there is problem at the middle, how ubuntu and chrome corporates with each other. Visual studio code also has some high CPU problem while scrolling, cooler makes noise. To me seems that it does matter whether the gpu makes the heat or the cpu regarding to cooling insensitivity. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DisplayManager: gdm3 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-08-07 (471 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20170801) Package: gnome-shell 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.3 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-39.42-generic 4.15.18 Tags: bionic third-party-packages Uname: Linux 4.15.0-39-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-08-24 (89 days ago) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip docker lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo vboxusers video wireshark _MarkForUpload: True + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 + Architecture: amd64 + CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME + DisplayManager: gdm3 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-08-07 (471 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20170801) + Package: gnome-shell 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.3 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-39.42-generic 4.15.18 + Tags: bionic third-party-packages + Uname: Linux 4.15.0-39-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-08-24 (89 days ago) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip docker lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo vboxusers vi

[Bug 1803848] Re: Playing video on chrome freezes frequently (Too slow to catch up)
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected bionic third-party-packages ** Description changed: Latest update of ubuntu made some strange problems: system-udev made a high CPU usage on nvidia, i have made a restart on the udev, thus i have decided to bleach it and run the following commands: sudo systemctl start systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-udevd-control.socket sudo systemctl stop systemd-udevd systemd-udevd-kernel.socket systemd-udevd-control.socket It solved some of the flickering problem, but it did not disappear. - To me seems that it does matter whether the gpu makes the heat or the - cpu regarding to cooling insensitivity. + To me seems that it does matter whether the gpu makes the heat or the cpu regarding to cooling insensitivity. + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 + Architecture: amd64 + CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME + DisplayManager: gdm3 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-08-07 (471 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20170801) + Package: gnome-shell 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.3 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-39.42-generic 4.15.18 + Tags: bionic third-party-packages + Uname: Linux 4.15.0-39-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-08-24 (89 days ago) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip docker lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo vboxusers video wireshark + _MarkForUpload: True ** Attachment added: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803848/+attachment/5215171/+files/Dependencies.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803848 Title: Playing video on chrome freezes frequently (Too slow to catch up) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1803848/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1775195] Re: [sync][sru]sosreport v3.6
** Description changed: [Impact] sosreport 3.6 has been released in June 2018 with further enhancements in core sosreport functionality. I already did the request for debian : https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=900818 and 3.6 has been uploaded in Debian since then (Thanks to caribou): sosreport | 3.6-1 | testing sosreport | 3.6-1 | unstable and I have synced sosreport (Debian->Ubuntu Disco). It would be great to have sosreport v3.6 SRU'd in supported stable releases once official release upstream, considering the fact that the release (especially LTSes) will be supported for a couple of years still: [https://www.ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle] Ubuntu 16.04 | support until 2023 Ubuntu 18.04 | support until 2024 sosreport is widely use by Canonical support team to troubleshoot UA customer and other vendors and community users. These improvement will benefit all of them. sosreport 3.6 contains a number of enhancements, new features, and bug fixes. (See "Release Note" below) Just like we did for v3.5 (LP: #1734983) [Test Case] * Install sosreport * Run sosreport - sosreport plugins are separated by subject (juju, MAAS, grub, zfs, ipsec, ...) and allow the capability to detect (based on file and package) if it exist and/or installed and then only run the necessary plugins based on the detection made. [Things identified during our testing] * [minor] juju plugin detection doesn't work if installed as a snap: https://github.com/sosreport/sos/issues/1475 Fix already submitted upstream. This is not a new thing, juju in sosreport have always been made for .deb so far. It's not a regression introduce in 3.6, and IMHO not a blocker for the current SRU. It could be patch later on when the upstream discussion/approval will be done. - * [major] Certain plugins may or may not substitute sensible -information such as password. Upstream fix found and applied : https://github.com/sosreport/sos/commit/b96bdab03f06408e162b1733b20e8ba9fbf8e012 + * [major] Certain plugins may or may not substitute sensible + information such as password. Plugin bug is an eventuality, but they are usually easy to fix and the impact will be isolated to the plugin itself or section of the plugin. If a plugin has a bug the worst that could happen is that this particular plugin won't collect system logs, debug information or anything this plugin was instructed to do, usually won't affect other plugin to perform as expected and/or sosreport to complete. [Other Info] [v3.6 Release notes] # https://github.com/sosreport/sos/releases/tag/3.6 [Original Description] sosreport 3.6 has been released in June 2018 with further enhancements in core sosreport functionality.
