[Bug 1808183] Re: ASPEED server console output extremely slow after upgrade to 18.04
Seems like this commit fixes the issue: commit 5478ad10e7850ce3d8b7056db05ddfa3c9ddad9a Author: Thomas Zimmermann Date: Thu Nov 15 11:42:16 2018 +0100 drm/ast: Remove existing framebuffers before loading driver If vesafb attaches to the AST device, it configures the framebuffer memory for uncached access by default. When ast.ko later tries to attach itself to the device, it wants to use write-combining on the framebuffer memory, but vesefb's existing configuration for uncached access takes precedence. This results in reduced performance. Removing the framebuffer's configuration before loding the AST driver fixes the problem. Other DRM drivers already contain equivalent code. [Bug 1766945] Re: (EFI on top of legacy install) choosing "replace" or "resize" options in partitioning may lead to an install failure
TLDR: the Xubuntu 18.04.1 installer does not recognize an NTFS EFI partition. Then the process takes it course and fails. Longer story. I recently staged two dual boot machines from scratch. The only difference between them was the EFI partition. Case 1: * Laptop came with Windows 10 pre-installed * Resized Windows partition * Booted with USB. Xubuntu installer offered choice of installing along existing Windows system and everything worked like a charm. KUDOS TO THE DEVELOPERS OF THE XUBUNTU INSTALLER. Case 2: * Restaged desktop that had a Windows 10 digital license on blank SSD * Resized Windows partition * Booted with USB. Xubuntu installer did not offer choice of installing along existing Windows system * STOPPED. Compared the two cases and found the difference: the fresh Windows 10 install (using 1809 media) set the desktop up with an NTFS EFI partition (at least so says gparted). * Rebooted with USB. In Xubuntu installer chose "Something else", selected the free space on the disk to create a new partition and let the installer go * The installer failed when trying to install grub-efi I will still make some attempts at fixing this, and will post here if I find something new. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766945 Title: (EFI on top of legacy install) choosing "replace" or "resize" options in partitioning may lead to an install failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-auto/+bug/1766945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1808657] [NEW] Ubiquity fails to boot when selecting the Try Kubuntu (live session).
Public bug reported: When booting to a live usb via UEFI boot on a hybrid Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop (Intel/Nvidia), the Try "Kubuntu option" hangs. If maybe- ubiquity is removed from the boot parameters, the laptop will live boot without issue. Proceeding directly to install works fine. [Bug 1808581] Re: cannot print to Canon MX860 after upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04
I think my only other option is to de-install and re-install the printer driver. That is a pain because Canon does not support Linux drivers. I have to search the web for the latest version from a hopefully reliable source. It takes a day. Doing this always results in inconsistent results for print and scan function on the printer. Sometimes only print works, other times only scan. Since this happened when I upgraded my machine to 18.04, re-installing may be the best answer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808581 Title: cannot print to Canon MX860 after upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1808581/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. [Bug 1808649] [NEW] TLS_CIPHER_LIST and TLS_PROTOCOL Ignored
Public bug reported: No matter what you put in TLS_CIPHER_LIST and/or TLS_PROTOCOL the settings are ignored. There is no way to limit the TLS Protocol or Cipher list in courier imap or pop. This is critical for PCI compliance. Older versions would allow you to manipulate the tls_cipher_list to get the desired effects. The only setting that seem to change the protocols now is the TLS_DHPARAMS setting. If it is blank you will loose some protocols naturally. A PCI scan will result in the following errors on a 18.04 server: IMAP (993/tcp) Early TLS Protocol Detection IMAP (993/tcp) SSL 64-bit Block Size Cipher Suites Supported (SWEET32) CVE-2016-2183 IMAP (993/tcp) SSL Medium Strength Cipher Suites Supported IMAP (993/tcp) Sweet32 Birthday Attack CVE-2016-2183 IMAP (993/tcp) TLS Version 1.0 Protocol Detection The same applies to POP A quick way to enumerate the ciphers/protocols currently active: nmap --script ssl-enum-ciphers -p 993 mail.yourserver.com ** Affects: courier (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808649 Title: TLS_CIPHER_LIST and TLS_PROTOCOL Ignored To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/courier/+bug/1808649/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

> -rw-r- 1 root lp 131822 Dec 14 13:17 MX860.ppd There is nothing wrong here. A PPD is not readable by a user process, only by one with root privileges. Whatever you ran did not have root privileges. You are using the gutenprint PPD for MX860; no problem there. Now do lpadmin -p mx860 -v socket:// -E -P /etc/cups/ppd/MX860.ppd and print with lp -d mx860 /etc/nsswitch.conf I am guessing that the Canon printer accepts jobs on port 9100 - most printers do. [Bug 1808646] Re: obaif graphics driver fails on amd while restarting

[Bug 1808646] [NEW] obaif graphics driver fails on amd while restarting
Public bug reported: I have a hybrid card and I don't see the AMD Radeon Topaz M260, thus I have installed from obaif. Problem: While restarting my computer - half bottom of the screen has got lines. (a refreshing problem of the screen - I'm on 100HZ), which does not happen on stop/start. Sometimes it happens on stop. While restarting: After logging in with my user/password, before that it's not happening. There is no report bug button on the obaif corner of the launchpad. I'm not sure, but somehow I had a Nvidia driver installed also, which I have removed. (at least I hope) It caused also problems (indefinite loops while trying to replace the mesa driver, even if I haven't any nvidia hardware, which is absolute bunker) In the official AMD page my card is not supported. (14.04 is the last release 2015) Last time when I tried to install the official amd-gpu driver, I was not able to log in. So at the moment, I don't see my second card, although the problem on restart seems to be disappeared. (the reported flickering issue of scrolling) As I had many combinations, like nvidia was installed, obaif not, and both and got similar flickering problems i kindly ask you how to get my graphics card up and running without making a crap from my intel HD 5500 also. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) => ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808646 Title: obaif graphics driver fails on amd while restarting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1808646/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1808581] Re: cannot print to Canon MX860 after upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04
I'm a little perplexed, Kim, because CUPS appears not to detect your printer. Anyway, we'll leave that on one side and look at the error_log and at the line "DEVICE_URI=cnijnet:/00:1E:8F:74:5A:78" I am not familiar with Canon printers, but this looks like a misconfiguration. From what I see elsewhere, it should be "DEVICE_URI=cnijnet:/00-1E-8F-74-5A-78" I would expect this (ofter called JetDirect) to work too: "DEVICE_URI=socket://" There should be a PPD for the print queue in /etc/cups/pppd. What does its *cupsFilter line show? -- Brian.
[Bug 1768738] Re: compiz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768738 Title: compiz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1768738/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The conflicting package codeblocks-libwxcontrib0 is not provided by Ubuntu so this is not a bug in Ubuntu. It looks like the third-party codeblocks that you have installed cannot be installed at the same time as the Ubuntu-provided codeblocks.
