[Bug 803625] Re: wine depends on avahi (making it hard to uninstall avahi)

2019-01-04 Thread cemlly rios
Found this bug report while searching for a solution to the problem.
After my machine (recently upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10) has been
running for a while it has the same issue. ahavi-daemon uses 100% of
available CPU. Restarting it helps for a little while but then CPU usage
jumps up again.

[Bug 1810565] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu18.04 upgrade fails on snap debug connectivity without logging any useful logs

2019-01-04 Thread sergiiF
** Description changed:

While running the do-release-upgrade I faced the issue. The output from log
is like:
  DEBUG quirks: running bionicPostInitialUpdate
  DEBUG running Quirks.bionicPostInitialUpdate
  DEBUG abort called

After some troubleshooting I found that it was failing on calling 'snap debug
connectivity'.
Snap version I had was a bit old, which caused it to fail with panic on slice
out of range.

- Because of the actual error was not logged, it was unable to found the
- issue without code debugging.
+ The issue is insufficient logging. Because of the actual error was not
+ logged, It was impossible to find the issue without code debugging.

It would be awesome if you can put more logs into
_checkStoreConnectivity function and log stderr and stdout output from
  popen.communicate before calling self.controller.abort()

Also it would be extremely useful to log traceback from abort. Can
  simplify the troubleshooting dramatically.

  Thanks.

[Bug 1810574] [NEW] Audio is low pitched/deeper on AMD GPU

2019-01-04 Thread Diego Velasquez
Public bug reported:

I have a dual screen set up, a Display Port Monitor and a HDMI monitor
on Ubuntu 18.04.1 ALSA driver k4.15.0-43-generic. The display port
monitor has speakers so I used as my main speakers, but, the audio of
any source sounds deeper/slower than it should be. Even videos of any
source last longer. For example, 10 "seconds" of any video in my
computer are 12.5 seconds in my phone stopwatch. I'm using a radeon r9

I reported the gimp issue at

Ctrl+Shift+E should work just fine for Export except when a text field

[Bug 1750051] Re: cron doesn't support MAILFROM

2019-01-04 Thread crash
Another issue with this is that setting the "From:" header to "root
(Cron daemon)" makes it difficult to forward this mail outside of the
system. Many servers (like gmail) will bounce emails with an improper
"From:" header.

[Bug 1805079] Re: click/pop noise in the headphone on several lenovo laptops

2019-01-04 Thread Vadim Vygonets
The two methods appear to do the same, except hda-verb applies the
change when run and the other method at the time the hda kernel module
is loaded. You can run hda-verb at boot instead, but the other method
looks cleaner to me, as it applies the fix when the hardware is
configured by the driver. I believe this fix can also be added to the
driver itself.

As I described above[0], after Hui Wang fixed this bug here that we're
commenting on[1], I started to hear noise in headphones. This is not
occasional crackling sound, this is constant annoying noise. Not every
gen6 Carbon has this issue, apparently. This fixes the issue.

[Bug 214786] Re: Apple USB ISO keyboard has incorrectly swapped keys

2019-01-04 Thread Gianni
I have an italian apple keyboard and I confirm that the bug where keys
<> and \| are switched is still present.

The command for a volatile fix

echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/module/hid_apple/parameters/iso_layout

and for a permanent solution

echo options hid_apple iso_layout=0 | sudo tee -a
/etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf

that are mentioned above fix the issue for me.

[Bug 1684123]

2019-01-04 Thread Jv1-a
Tonight I tried to see what happens if I generate a xorg.conf file and place it
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, as described here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/4662/where-is-the-x-org-config-file-how-do-i-configure-x-there

When I do that X starts without the error cannot find framebuffer
device. It starts with a backtrace list and then stops with:

'Segmentation fault at address 0x0.

Fatal sever error etc etc etc.

Hope this helps!

[Bug 1810565] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu18.04 upgrade fails on snap debug connectivity without logging any useful logs

2019-01-04 Thread sergiiF
Public bug reported:

While running the do-release-upgrade I faced the issue. The output from log is
like:
DEBUG quirks: running bionicPostInitialUpdate
DEBUG running Quirks.bionicPostInitialUpdate
DEBUG abort called

After some troubleshooting I found that it was failing on calling 'snap debug
connectivity'.
Snap version I had was a bit old, which caused it to fail with panic on slice
out of range.

Because of the actual error was not logged, it was unable to found the
issue without code debugging.

It would be awesome if you can put more logs into
_checkStoreConnectivity function and log stderr and stdout output from
popen.communicate before calling self.controller.abort()

Also it would be extremely useful to log traceback from abort. Can
simplify the troubleshooting dramatically.

Thanks.

[Bug 1805079] Re: click/pop noise in the headphone on several lenovo laptops

2019-01-04 Thread James Thorne
I think the poster here [1] and here [2] are the same person. That
person mentions in the Lenovo thread [2] that the "sudo hda-verb
/dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1d SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL 0x0" command is temporary,
and to permanently apply it the method mentioned in the same Lenovo
thread needs to be done.

Knowing that either of those methods appear to be the fix, what is
necessary to resolve this permanently and not require the method
mentioned here [2]?

Additionally, for my own curiosity, what exactly is happening when
applying either of the fixes?

Thanks.

[Bug 1805079] Re: click/pop noise in the headphone on several lenovo laptops

2019-01-04 Thread Vadim Vygonets
Hui Wang,

Yes, this solves the noise issue. Both the modprobe method from Lenovo
forum and the command you provided work perfectly. Thank you, and thank
you James!

I still have quiet sound initially. And, now that I compared it to the
kernel without the 0x12 line, it seems that the sound is quieter also
after replugging the headphones (which must be dome while sound is
playing). It's about 20dB lower before replugging and about 10dB lower
after, and perhaps less bassy, though I may be imagining things here.
I'm testing it with http://www.vygo.net/hda/11-Ultimatum.ogg which has
strong bass indeed. But I understand that you can reproduce it, so I
trust in you :)

Many thanks for solving the noise issue, and happy new year!
Vadim.

Upon installation to a clean disk which was wiped during setup I get the
error message "Executing '/grub-install /dev/sda' failed." I have tried

I still get this error. I am not trying to dual-boot the system. I am

[Bug 1810554] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2019-01-04

2019-01-04 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to

a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

upstream stable patchset 2019-01-04 (ported from v4.14.56, v4.17.7,
v4.17.8)

[Bug 1783987] Re: German Neo2 Problem with Xubuntu 18.04 (try out mode)

2019-01-04 Thread Benjamin Fischer
In my case, what helped was to remove package `numlockx` with `sudo apt-
get purge numlockx`.

This package `numlockx` was integrated into Xubuntu's startup with
version 18.04 (see https://wiki.xubuntu.org/releases/18.04/release-
notes#numlock). It always turns on Num Lock on startup, which is related
to the Neo keyboard layout behaving weirdly as others mentioned above.

With that I can use 2 keyboard layouts. I hope this helps others.

Can you load kernel with grub command line amdgpu.vm_update_mode=3 to
force CPU VM update mode and see if this makes the issue go away ?

Hello, I think I'm experiencing the same problem here. My Ryzen 5 2400G
system freezes often, especially under some high cpu and disk activity,
even after the "Typical Current Idle" UEFI workaround. Sometimes I could
reboot with sysrq, most of the times I need a hard reset. The freezes
never leave a message in kernel log until today, after 2 months I built
my machine.

###
Test Software:
###
I created a simple C file to:
- allocate 2MB blocks,
- write urandom to them,
- md5sum all the blocks together,
- stops, allowing migration,
- re-md5sum everything,
- free the blocks.

The attached source file is copied to guest, then compiled:
#gcc -o memtest memtest.c -lcrypto

###
Procedure
###

Use CLI commands to bring up Guest "Migrate from" and "Migrate to".

On "Migrate from":

Allocated 4075 blocks of 2097152 size.

[Bug 1810551] [NEW] LibreOffice Writer does not print page numbers.

2019-01-04 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

When I select Format->Page I see that the page numbering is set to 1,
2,... but no page numbers are actually printed.

(bug reported over 5-years ago and not fixed). LibreOffice Writer still
does not do duplex printing. Workaround - export to PDF and then use any
other program to print duplex. They all work except LibreOffice Writer.

[Bug 1804603] Re: systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service fails on btrfs

2019-01-04 Thread fusillator
in the previous post I missed the inline option of sed (sorry)...
I will try to merge the patch from cosmic in the we for the sake of experience
Anyway I don't have a good comprehension of the code... and I think there will
be conflicts to resolve (the patch was thought to be applied to a differente
codebase..)
So if a maintainer or a skilled programmer would provide the patch for bionic
it would be better.
