[Bug 1809156] Re: E1000 guest to host escape

2019-01-20 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna via ubuntu-bugs
Hello Eduardo:
I was wondering if anyone had version 5.2.18-dfsg-2 installed and didn't do
updates ever since, but this is a rare case.

that version is the base in cosmic, so if anybody has it installed is not on
xenial anymore...
please don't make confusion between 5.0.18 and 5.2.18 :)
If you look carefully, all the virtualbox history is self consistent between
and across supported and unsupported Ubuntu releases.

Of course mistakes can happen, and in case they do, please tell me
exactly which version and which pocket you are referring to, and I'll
have a look :)

>Sorry if I it sounded harsh when I said it was incorrect, just wanted
to point at possible update >problems if a user still had the
5.2.18-dfsg-2 version installed.

this is my fault, I just had no time to fix this serious issue before
(basically vbox 6 is taking all my time), so I don't re-read my posts :)

>Also, did you have trouble with virtualbox on cosmic? With the lack of
wsimport (openjdk-11 change), >it is almost impossible to build the
project right now.

java is a sad thing, since the begin :P
there are two kind of people:
1) people who have problem with java
2) people who never used it :)

(attached a revised cosmic patch)
For the upload, feel free to go ahead, I'm not part of security team, I don't
think I can upload there...

I'll upload the test builds here:
https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/locutusofborg-ppa

[Bug 1812613] [NEW] Can't stop the service with the default config

2019-01-20 Thread Anas Bouzid
Public bug reported:

### What I expected to happen
`service fwknop-server stop` should stop the service

### What happened instead
Nothing, the service is still running

### Details
The default [init.d
script](https://github.com/mrash/fwknop/blob/master/extras/fwknop.init.debian)
looks for the pid in /var/run/fwknop to stop it, however the package is built
with --localstatedir=/var, I think it should be built with
--localstatedir=/var/run but I'm not sure.

Right now I'm overriding /etc/fwknop/fwknopd.conf:
FWKNOP_RUN_DIR/var/run/fwknop;

ProblemType: Package
Architecture: all
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: fwknop-server 2.6.9-2

Yes, but what do you have in my specifically? Anyway, at present I am
not running the patched kernel, because (1) as I explained, it broke my
networking, (2) deblacklisting the touchpad module seemed to cause my
touchpad problems (even when the patched kernel was not loaded).

[Bug 1777461] Re: unable to install grub in /dev/sda

2019-01-20 Thread Samet Cömert
The solution was manually partitioning the disk and choosing the
installation location of grub to an efi partition. I guess ubuntu was
trying to install the grub to a wrong partition, such as /dev/sda.

[Bug 1812527] Re: gnome-shell crashes when switching from workspace that is running Android emulator (QEMU)

2019-01-20 Thread FixMaker
I am also seeing this problem, which seemed to manifest itself after a
recent update. By experimenting, I've determined that there seems to be
a segfault in libmutter-2.so.0.0.0 each time the workspace changes (when
the Android emulator is running).

Please see the attached excerpt from my syslog. I see this each time I
try to switch to a different workspace, if the *current* workspace
contains an open emulator window. The problem doesn't seem to happen if
the emulator window is minimized.

Please let me know if you need any more info.

[Bug 1811599] Re: When booting, the computer hangs at a purple screen and no login prompt is ever displayed

2019-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Although you have provided some logs that are not in recovery mode,
those logs span multiple days so are not helpful in pinpointing the
immediate problem.

When sending logs in future please ensure they don't mention "recovery
nomodeset", AND that the earliest and oldest dates in the log file are
the same day within a few minutes of each other. That should be
guaranteed by following the steps in comment #2 closely.

[Bug 1811599] Re: When booting, the computer hangs at a purple screen and no login prompt is ever displayed

2019-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I suspect the mistake is that you are not manually un-selecting recovery
mode, so it is always rebooting in the same mode as last time, so is
always in recovery mode.

Either that or the non-recovery mode boots are failing to record a log
at all. But I suspect it's more likely you're stuck in recovery mode
even after rebooting.

Try selecting a kernel at startup that is not recovery mode. Then
reproduce the hang, and then reboot into recovery mode...

[Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

2019-01-20 Thread Thorsten
hi, more feedback from me: i am now running this kernel since sa morning
without any issue with at least 20 suspend/resumes. Just in case, i
appended my journalctl log (but without the debug kernelparameter).

@ALinuxUser: do you see any output when typing journalctl -b 0 -k?

Re: [Bug 1811599] Re: When booting, the computer hangs at a purple screen and no login prompt is ever displayed

2019-01-20 Thread Alexander A Theiler
Hey Daniel,

I'm honestly not sure what I'm doing wrong. Here's precisely what I'm
doing. Tell me where I'm messing up:

First, I booted into recovery mode by hitting Esc on bootup, and selecting
boot into recovery mode. The computer then boots, and reaches a point at
which it I have multiple options, the first one being continue into a
regular boot, and a then there are a few others, like "drop into root."

In the previous email, with the previous file, after booting into recovery
mode, I then selected "continue regular boot" and then I edited the
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf to enable debugging. I then rebooted and reproduced
the hang. I then rebooted into recovery mode, and then continued booting
into normal mode. I then sent the files, were were apparently wrong.

Here are two more files. Since /etc/gdm3/custom.conf already had debugging
enabled, I did not reboot the computer into recovery mode. I simply
rebooted the machine, let it boot as normal and hang while loading as it
usually does. I then rebooted the machine, tapped Esc, and selected "boot
into recovery mode." It paused after booting for a few seconds, and gave me
a few options. This time, I chose "drop into root" and ran the command
"journalctl -b-1 > prev_boot.txt" but I'm not sure where it saved. I then
selected for the computer to boot as normal, out of recovery mode. When I
entered Ubuntu, I ran two commands, "journalctl -b-1 > prev_boot.txt" and
attached it here. I also ran "journalctl -b >prev_boot2.txt." Between the
two boot records, I hope one is correct. Prev_boot.txt is extremely large
again for some reason, and in the logs, it says the boot sequence started
on 1/11/19, which is absurd. What's going on with that? Strangely,
prev_boot2.txt is much smaller but also states that the boot sequence took
over a week.

Sorry for the lengthy email. Where am I messing up on recording the
boot?

Sincerely,

Alex

Looking at the dmesg | grep wlp2s0 can also put some light on this.
Apparently, TX Power Saver causes connection loss for networks with PEAP

WiFi works fine on home networks (WPA2/WEP)
Drops at college/work. (PEAP)

This was my last output.

[Bug 1812561] Re: [MacBookPro11, 5] wakes up and suspends in a loop while closed

2019-01-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Selwyn, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

In order to allow additional upstream mainline kernel developers to examine the
issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest mainline
kernel? Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is in a folder at the very top of the page (not the daily
folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the mainline kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is not reproducible in the mainline
kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a
black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the Bug
Description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the issue is reproducible with the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

In addition, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to
test the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Lastly, it is most helpful that after testing of the latest mainline
kernel is complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

Given you've tested the latest mainline kernel, latest BIOS, and assuming all
the previous test results are the same when not using any non-default kernel
parameters as noted in your Bug Description:
i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 "acpi_osi=!Windows 2013"

it appears one is to wait while upstream attends to the issues noted in
KBZ#201469. However, it wouldn't hurt to gather the information upstream
requested using the latest mainline kernel (and continue to do so when a
new mainline kernel is released), as this helps to keep developer
attention.

[Bug 1812603] Re: Keeps coming up with incorrect resolution and defaulting to lower resolution

2019-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
"incorrect resolution" is because you have booted into recovery mode,
which disables proper resolutions via the "nomodeset" kernel parameter.

Please reboot and as soon as the purple screen appears tap "Esc". Now
select a normal kernel to boot that is not recovery mode.

If the problem still persists after that then please run:

  dmesg > dmesg.txt

and send us the new 'dmesg.txt' file.

[Bug 1812527] Re: gnome-shell crashes when switching from workspace that is running Android emulator (QEMU)

2019-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1812502] Re: Bluetooth audio skips when waking a bluetooth mouse

2019-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like you've made some changes to power management that might
have caused this bug.

Please try using powertop (or whatever you use already) and ensure your
mouse or bluetooth adapter is never set to sleep.

** Summary changed:

- When I use my Bluetooth A2DP headset (Philips SHB7102) together with my mouse
(Lenovo Bluetooth Laser Mouse), I notice this: Whenever I leave the mouse
still for a few seconds (it seems to enter some kind of lower-power-mode) and
then start to move it, my music most of the time skips for a second. This makes
using these two bluetooth devices together quite annoying... The adapter is a

Next I would like to confirm if this is really a pure Intel bug. Just

and then log into "Ubuntu on Wayland"?

Does using a Wayland session avoid the bug?

Please also run 'xrandr' in the Wayland session and send us the output.

[Bug 1769322] Re: Trackpoint reacts jumpy and isn't precise when moved a short distance

2019-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+
+ ---
+
I made a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 on a thinkPad t450s and t480s. The
trackpoint reacts, especially if i want to move it only a small distance, very
jumpy and erratic.
It is very difficult to hit a precise spot on the screen because if I press
with very littel pressure the cursor doesn't move and with a little more it
makes a big jump. Somethimes it moves backwards first and then makes a jump in
the intended direction. To summ up the trackpoint is very difficult to handle
and changing the speedsettings doesn't change the issue.

With Ubuntu 16.04 at least on the t450s everything worked well.

[Bug 1811248] Re: systemd--networkd mounts denied for lxc guest

2019-01-20 Thread Marcin Longlastname
Going further, for those who are running arch containers in proxmox who
reach here after googling via getting a message similar to this:

[ 2204.273155] audit: type=1400 audit(1548030556.960:100):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="mount" info="failed flags match" error=-13
profile="lxc-101_" name="/" pid=26493comm="(networkd)"
flags="rw, rslave"

the github link in the beginning has discussion on workarounds for the
meantime:

https://github.com/lxc/lxc/issues/2778#issuecomment-455199160

I attempted to just modify "mount options=(rw,make-rslave)," in
"/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/lxc/container-base" which did not work
sadly since the file "/var/lib/lxc/102/apparmor/lxc-{YOUR_CONTAINER_ID}_
\<-var-lib-lxc\>" that is created when starting the container keeps the
old commented out version of that line, even after rebooting the host.
Instead, I ended up just adding "lxc.apparmor.profile: unconfined" to
the "/etc/pve/lxc/{YOUR_CONTAINER_ID}.conf" file for each container and
then restarting the container which disabled apparmor for all your
containers which while terrible security wise, at least I get my
containers back up while waiting for a bug fix.

[Bug 1748565] Re: Kernel regularly logs: Bluetooth: hci0: last event is not cmd complete (0x0f)

2019-01-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As I suspected, the error:

Bluetooth: hci0: last event is not cmd complete (0x0f)

is itself not a bug. The only bug is that the error was displayed when
it shouldn't be. So if you have any actual Bluetooth bugs then they
should probably be logged elsewhere. That is according to
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=198699#c24

It appears the "fix" to stop the error message appearing is in the
mainline kernel 5.0 (AKA version 4.21) onward.

But again if you have any problems with the behaviour of Bluetooth then
please open a new bug.
