BTW Is this a temporary measure due to the urgency? or do we not plan to

[Bug 1813843] Re: [nouveau] Xorg crash

2019-01-29 Thread Haug Bürger
I'm not sure If I have exactly the same issue, booting:
Linux version 4.15.0-44-generic (buildd@lcy01-amd64-010) (gcc version 7.3.0
(Ubuntu 7.3.0-16ubuntu3)) #47-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 14 11:26:59 UTC 2019 (Ubuntu
4.15.0-44.47-generic 4.15.18)

I can login and after that black screen, num lock doesn't work any more. My fix
was to boot the old kernel:
Linux ZALANDO-27144 4.15.0-43-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 6 14:45:28 UTC
2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

For me 4.15.0-44-generic is broken!

[Bug 1813877] [NEW] Can't adjust brightness on DELL UHD dGPU AIO

2019-01-29 Thread AceLan Kao
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The dell-uart-backlight driver has been loaded, but the backlight is controller
by graphics driver instead of scalar IC. The old way to determinate weather the
driver should be loaded is not working anymore, since the behavior of scalar
command, show firmware version, is not the same as old platforms.

[Fix]
Using more a reliable command, get_scalar_status, to check if scalar is in
charge of the AIO backlight.

[Test]
Verified on new Dell AIO platforms.

[Regression Potential]
Expected. The get_scalar_status command is not supported by the first
generation AIO platforms, so the driver may not be loaded on old AIO machines
due to get_scalar_status command returns 0. To ease the pain, the "force"
parameter has been introduced to make the driver can be loaded regardless of
the return value of get_scalar_status command.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

 Status: In Progress

I wouldn’t exactly consider Google Drive “friendly”, but I guess most
users don’t have 10+TB of data stored on premises. That much runs for a
minimum of $99/mo on Google One.

[Bug 1813873] [NEW] Userspace break as a result of missing patch backport

2019-01-29 Thread md_5
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The most recent set of Ubuntu kernels applied a variety of tty patches
including:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/c96cf923a98d1b094df9f0cf97a83e118817e31b

But have not applied the more recent
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/d3736d82e8169768218ee0ef68718875918091a0
patch.

This second patch is required to prevent a rather serious regression
where userspace applications reading from stdin can receive EAGAIN when
they should not.

I will try to link correspondence from the mailing list archives once
they are available, but for now if you have access to the linux-console
mailing list you can find discussion under the thread "Userspace break?
read from STDIN returns EAGAIN if tty is "touched"".

I would appreciate it if this could be examined soon as it is a
regression on userspace.

Thanks
Michael

2019-01-29 Thread d a i s y
For 19.04, I am working on it because I found some strange issue with
HDMI too after installing it.

Boot system connected with HDMI connected, first it shows only blank
purple magenta and after a minute, only blank black screen. Power off
the smart station, disconnected both HDMI, VGA, and boot the system and
after completion of booting, connect the HDMI, it shows login screen. I
will give you a log.

[Bug 1813869] [NEW] Redpine: Driver crash with network-manager 1.10 and above

2019-01-29 Thread Siva Rebbagondla
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification:
--

Impact:
---
Kernel crash upon inserting Redpine driver

Test case:
--
  1) Install network-manager v(1.10) snap.
  2) Insert Redpine modules.
  3) Observe the behavior.

Result:
---
Redpine driver crashes the entire kernel and below is the crash log.

Root cause analysis:

In nm-1.10 and above versions, MAC spoof is enabled by default. In
Redpine
driver, this handling is missed. Hence, Added the fix for the same.

Fix:

Copied the Custom MAC address into driver global structure.

Regression Petential:
-
This is a very direct issue Since the driver is crashing upon inserting
the
modules. we ran the multiple times insertion and deletion of modules
and connected
to third-party AP, did data transfer.

2. Remove VGA and connect the HDMI
3. Login when HDMI connected and then remove HDMI and again connect VGA

commit f599c15e33f72d44a18f10cd71a0fc9b13b35080
Author: Jens Harbott
Date: Mon Oct 29 17:08:33 2018 +

Secure dnsmasq process against external abuse

Currently any dhcp agent instance will work as an open resolver. For
deployments using publicly routed addresses for tenant networks, this
allows the agent being abused in dDoS attacks, see [1].

By setting the `--local-service` option dnsmasq will filter DNS queries
and reply only to queries from directly attached networks.

[Bug 1246347] Re: Lots of "error on subcontainer 'ia_addr' insert (-1)" reports in /var/log/syslog

2019-01-29 Thread N1nj4888
I'm still seeing this issue in Cosmic 18.10. It seems that, by default,
snmpd is set to log at the DEBUG level which seems too intensive.

To fix I had to run the following (where "LS4d" indicates LOG_WARNING)
as per the snmpd man page info below. With the log level set at
LOG_WARNING this also has the added bonus that the many "Connection from
UDP: [IP]:PORT->[IP]:PORT" snmpd INFO messages are also not output to
/var/log/syslog...

$ sudo sed -i "s|-Lsd|-LS4d|" /lib/systemd/system/snmpd.service
$ sudo systemctl daemon-reload
$ sudo systemctl restart snmpd.service

snmpd man page (https://linux.die.net/man/1/snmpcmd):
0 or ! for LOG_EMERG,
1 or a for LOG_ALERT,
2 or c for LOG_CRIT,
3 or e for LOG_ERR,
4 or w for LOG_WARNING,
5 or n for LOG_NOTICE,
6 or i for LOG_INFO, and
7 or d for LOG_DEBUG.

For any given directory/folder on that site, scroll down to:

  Build for amd64 succeeded

and then download/install that set of packages, except for the
"lowlatency" ones. You don't need "lowlatency".

[Bug 1812356] Re: AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint vertical pointer speed is very low

2019-01-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

Also, sorry but I failed to notice earlier that you're using 18.04 so
have an older version of libinput (1.10.4). Would you be able to live
boot Ubuntu 19.04 (http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/) and
tell us if that (libinput 1.12.6) has the same bug?

** Description changed:

+
While moving pointer (cursor) using Touchpad, vertical movement is very
slow and short (= less velocity and less acceleration compared to
horizontal axis). Horizontal movement is fine. So, when circle is drawn
on the Touchpad, the pointer moves in oval shape.

It appears you might have briefly run out of disk space.

Please try running this command:

  sudo apt install --reinstall ubuntu-mobile-icons

and send us the output from that command.

[Bug 1813843] Re: Xorg crash

2019-01-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

** Description changed:

I am running Kubuntu 18.10. This is the PH517-61 Acer Predator Helios
500 with the Ryzen processor. My first issue I need to deal with is
Suspend. I have temporarily disabled suspend in the kcmshell5
configuration. If I do let the laptop suspend and then hit the keyboard
I get what appears to be a 1950s TV with no signal. At this point I
manually power down and then power up again and am able to view things
  on screen.

Running these commands I get this information:
  $ journalctl -b -g suspend
  Compiled without pattern matching support
