Same. Ubuntu 18.04, Sony WH-CH700N
I have to go to bluetooth device list, disconnect device and reconnect from UI.
after that, default sound card correctly switches over and i can hear music.
Without that, i can't even switch the sound card, even though it's visible in
the list.

Ran into the exact same error. What I noticed is that manually moving
the extensions out of ./extensions didn't do anything (though I didn't
reboot; just switch between tty's), but after I logged in via tty3 and
manually mounted my ecryptfs homedir, I was able to login normally
through tty1.

I'll do a fresh reboot and move them out of ./extensions one-by-one and
see if that makes a difference.

[Bug 1812359] Re: No login screen displayed on a NETBOX nT-435/535 (kernel reports an LVDS output which does not exist as connected and on)

2019-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. That's definitely a kernel bug (or a hardware fault, but let's
hope a kernel bug).

I can now finally hand this over to the kernel people. Although it might
also be helpful if you report the bug upstream here:

  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/enter_bug.cgi

with a new title like:

"i915 reports a nonexistent LVDS output (as connected and on)"

and the details:

grep . /sys/class/drm/*/enabled
   /sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS-1/enabled:enabled
   /sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/enabled:enabled
grep . /sys/class/drm/*/status
   /sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS-1/status:connected
   /sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/status:connected
grep . /sys/class/drm/*/dpms
   /sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS-1/dpms:On
   /sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/dpms:On

then tell us the new bug ID.

Anyway, the crash happens on launch.

LO build info:
Version: 5.1.0.2
Build ID: ecd3574d51754b043f865cf5bafee286d24db7cc
CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.3; UI Render: default;
Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8)

I tried with the Jan 15 daily and the same crash on launch happened.

My video card is a GTX 660 and I'm using the 352.63 driver (long lived branch)

Could I provide a useful stack-trace using GDB? I'll attach what I got
in the meantime by running soffice --backtrace.

[Bug 1464064] Re: Ubuntu apt repos are not available via HTTPS

2019-01-30 Thread Andy Brody
Ubuntu's reliance solely on PGP signatures for package and .iso download
security puts the community at risk.

There have been several APT vulnerabilities in the past few years that
create remote code execution vulnerabilities for Ubuntu systems. It's
irresponsible not to give system operators any option to protect against
these vulnerabilities.

Every LTS release since 10.04 has been affected by at least one RCE
vulnerability in APT that would have been mitigated by HTTPS mirrors.

https://usn.ubuntu.com/3863-1/ CVE-2019-3462
https://usn.ubuntu.com/3156-1/ CVE-2016-1252
https://usn.ubuntu.com/2353-1/ CVE-2014-6273
https://usn.ubuntu.com/2348-1/ CVE-2014-0487, CVE-2014-0488, CVE-2014-0489,
CVE-2014-0490
https://usn.ubuntu.com/2246-1/ CVE-2014-0478
https://usn.ubuntu.com/1762-1/ CVE-2013-1051

Vulnerabilities like these are severe because they make it difficult if
not impossible to securely bootstrap an Ubuntu system from an official
release CD image.

It's especially egregious that security.ubuntu.com is not available over
TLS, since many systems continue to refer to http://security.ubuntu.com
even when they use a separate primary mirror that supports HTTPS.

Besides preventing remote code execution, HTTPS would also improve
confidentiality.

Because Launchpad PPAs are only available over insecure HTTP, anyone
using a PPA that belongs to them will disclose their identity over the
network whenever apt update is run, which can be as often as multiple
times daily.

It's particularly inexcusable that ppa.launchpad.net doesn't deliver
packages over HTTPS because even though it does have a valid HTTPS
certificate, it responds with a 404 Not Found instead of returning PPA
content. [1]

There are many areas of the Internet community where the consensus has
changed from HTTP as the default to secure HTTPS as the default. U.S.
Government policy now requires HTTPS for all U.S. federal websites and
web services, drawing no distinction between browser and non-browser use
cases. [2] The W3C now recommends that the web platform should actively
prefer HTTPS. [3] The IAB recommends that all new protocols use
encryption for confidentiality. [4] Google Chrome has moved over the
past few years to treat HTTPS as the default, explicitly marking
plaintext HTTP connections as non-secure via a warning icon rather than
a neutral presentation. [5] The IETF declared in RFC 7258 that pervasive
monitoring is an attack that the Internet community should address
through encryption and other means. [6]

It's long past time for Ubuntu to follow suit.

[1] e.g.
https://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ci/stable/ubuntu/dists/bionic/Release returns
404, but works over insecure HTTP

2019-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Generally for each version you try you need to install all the packages
_except_ the "lowlatency" ones.

So:

  linux-headers-4.19.0-041900_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_all.deb
  linux-headers-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb

linux-image-unsigned-4.19.0-041900-generic_4.19.0-041900.201810221809_amd64.deb

[Bug 1814025] Re: Screen flickering on many programm

2019-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears you have some unsupported graphics packages installed from
the "Oibaf" PPA. Please use 'ppa-purge' to remove that PPA from the
system. Then reboot.

If the problem still persists after that then run:

  dpkg -l > allpackages.txt

and send us the resulting file 'allpackages.txt'.

Next, please try some newer kernels (you only have kernel 4.18 with
Ubuntu 19.04) from here:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D

and then use the simple test of:

  grep . /sys/class/drm/*/enabled

to tell us if a newer kernel has changed things.

[Bug 1812359] Re: No login screen displayed on a NETBOX nT-435/535

2019-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Great! I think I understand the problem now.

The problem is that the Linux kernel is telling us there are two
displays:

LVDS - a laptop display that does not exist
  VGA - your real monitor

And then due to bug 1760849, gdm3 is putting the login screen on that
laptop display which doesn't really exist.

A fix for bug 1760849 would suffice. But let's keep this bug open and
make this bug just about the kernel bug of reporting an LVDS output
which doesn't exist.

** Summary changed:

- No login screen displayed on a NETBOX nT-435/535
+ No login screen displayed on a NETBOX nT-435/535 (kernel reports an LVDS
output which does not exist as connected and on)

** Package changed: mutter (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

** No longer affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

- I've tried the solution mentioned here
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1727356/comments/72
- but it did not solve my issue.
+ On a machine with only one display (VGA), the kernel is reporting two:
+
+ grep . /sys/class/drm/*/enabled
+
+/sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS-1/enabled:enabled
+/sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/enabled:enabled
+
+ ls /sys/class/drm
+
+card0 card0-LVDS-1 card0-VGA-1 renderD128 version
+
+ grep . /sys/class/drm/*/dpms
+
+/sys/class/drm/card0-LVDS-1/dpms:On
+/sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/dpms:On
+
+ which then triggers bug 1760849 and the login screen is never visible.

[Bug 1670959] Re: systemd-resolved using 100% CPU

2019-01-30 Thread JuanJo Ciarlante
For other souls facing this "Medium" issue,
a hammer-ish workaround that works for me:

1) Run:
apt-get install cpulimit

2) edit /lib/systemd/system/systemd-resolved.service:

2a) Comment out:
#Type=notify

2b) Replace line (may want to remove the -k to let cpulimit throttle it):
#ExecStart=!!/lib/systemd/systemd-resolved
ExecStart=!!/usr/bin/cpulimit -f -q -k -l 50 -- /lib/systemd/systemd-resolved

3) Run:

systemctl daemon-reload
systemctl restart systemd-resolved

[Bug 1812014] Re: keyboard not responding after suspend after some time

2019-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. The best guess I can make is a problem in upower or the Nvidia
driver (comment #15). Those are definitely performance problems (100%
CPU for no obvious reason) and could well explain why the keyboard stops
responding.

Maybe next we need to look at the system log in detail... If you can
recover from the problem without rebooting then please run:

  journalctl -b0 > curlog.txt

If you have to reboot to recover from the problem then please run this
after rebooting:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevlog.txt

and send us the resulting log file.

[Bug 1812101]

2019-01-30 Thread Michael Weghorn
Backports for LibreOffice 6.2 for the two commits:

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/67131/
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/67132/

With these commits, you will get the plain Qt5FilePicker that has all custom
controls with "kde5" (but the file auto extension not yet working, s. comment
17 -> to be handled separately).
For the "gtk3_kde5" case, all custom options except for the file autoextension
checkbox are there.

Personally, I'm not sure whether investing time into adding the file
auto-extension to the gtk3_kde5 file picker (for the non-Plasma case)
makes much sense, since

1) kde5 is "the future" and will be used instead of gtk3_kde5 by default
from LibreOffice 6.2 (on KDE Plasma and LXQt desktops)

2) The idea of gtk3_kde5 is to use the stable gtk3 VCL plugin and just add a
native KDE filepicker on top. Since LXQt cannot use that one anyway, there
seems to be little value in using gtk3_kde5 over gtk3 anyway...
I'd rather suggest to change the order, so that LXQt prefers the plain gtk3 VCL
plugin over the gtk3_kde5 one.

Any other opinions on this?

[Bug 1814019] [NEW] package is missing metainfo

2019-01-30 Thread Stefan Seefeld
Public bug reported:

As per https://github.com/pypa/setuptools/issues/1651:

The `python3-pyqt5` package is missing (python package) metadata,
resulting in Python's own package management logic to fail to detect its
presence.

The result is that any (Python) package listing `python3-pyqt5` as
prerequisite will not work correctly. Rather, during installation it
will attempt to download PyQt5 from PyPi, yielding conflicts.

Maybe turn on debugging in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf, reboot, and then look
at the more detailed log from 'journalctl -b0' to see what was happening

[Bug 1759714] Re: [nvidia] Xorg suddenly starts to consume 100% CPU, apparently triggered by Chrome

2019-01-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Ubuntu is a community project. Although I do work for Canonical I am not
required to answer Xorg bugs like this. I am volunteering my time.

Also keep in mind that you like most people are probably not paying for
support. To make the whole Ubuntu project work we rely on everyone,
including reporters of bugs, to do a little work.

If a bug is common and being discussed by many users then the individual
really doesn't have to do anything. In cases like that you can rely on
others to probably do the work. But for bugs like this affecting only
one person then some responsibility has to be on you to help us
understand better what's happening on your machine.

Certainly this is too much effort for many people. And I understand that
- sometimes I don't report bugs myself, for this reason.

2019-01-30 Thread ALinuxUser
Me again. Now, I might have faulty hardware, but it occured to me that
having 'reboot=w' in my kernel boot arguments might be the problem. I
will test - i.e. see whether the patch works if I remove that argument -
when I have time. Still, using that argument does have a purpose

Distro: Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS xenial

I have the same problem that I can not rename files and folders by pressing the

I work on a laptop and I have connected an external keyboard (Microsoft Wired

the bug is executed, but if the "Num Lock" key is disabled the bug is no longer
present.

Issue is present with all extensions disabled (minus user themes).
In addition to the delay after login, there's this weird behaviour: after
waking from sleep induced by closing the lid, the desktop shows for a while
before going back to the greeter screen. Not sure if this is related (maybe
others can corroborate?), but it's there more often than not. I recently
switched from laptop-mode-tools to TLP which seems to exacerbate this behaviour.

I was not fishing for thank-yous, I'm offering to get an Ubuntu-specific

Instead of insisting that you know all there is to know about the issue,
how about providing that patch with the workaround we suggested? Or, how
about finding somebody to work on such a patch?

I suppose that you were not aware that you were exchanging messages with
