[Bug 1581594] Re: constantly shows wrong temperature (99°C )

2019-02-14 Thread Natetronn
Not sure I should chime in, since it's already been confirmed but, I'm
seeing this as well.

Says it's 100c in Disks and in Freon too.

$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb: KINGSTON SA400S37240G: 26°C

I'm a bit too tired at this point to try and figure out how to address
the issue. I'll read the thread again in the morning.

[Bug 1815002] Re: quick-boot-lvm.patch caused regression - menu always appear if root is on Btrfs

2019-02-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Tested on bionic:
mkfs.btrfs /dev/vda2
mount /dev/vda2 /mnt
cp -a /boot/* /mnt/
umount /mnt
mount /dev/vda2 /mnt
grub-install vda
update-grub
reboot

- Boot to the grub prompt and hit 'c'

grub> save_env timeout_style
error: sparse file not allowed
grub>

grub does not support writes to btrfs; therefore Ubuntu does not have
recordfail handling; therefore we cannot default to a timeout of zero on
UEFI systems when grub is installed to btrfs.

You are welcome to adjust the timeouts in /etc/default/grub, but the
grub package's behavior here is deliberate.

[Bug 1816006] [NEW] /var/run/squid (run_dir) no longer created on start up

2019-02-14 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

On squid service start up in Bionic, /var/run/squid is created by
/etc/init.d/squid (create_run_dir()). This doesn't happen in Cosmic nor
Disco and probably is related to the migration to systemd.

Squid needs to create the squid-kid-*.ipc UNIX sockets in /var/run/squid
to function on SMP set ups (workers X).

Steps to reproduce:

  * spin up fresh cosmic or bionic instance/machine

  * install squid

  * configure 'workers 5' or enable the Rock Store cache storage type

  * reboot instance

  * try start up squid.

Logging shows this:

| 2019/02/15 04:46:58 kid1| commBind Cannot bind socket FD 28 to [::]:

Can you attach the output of 'lsusb -v' here?

  [Impact]

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is an LTS release upstream, which will continue to
receive security support for much longer than 1.1.0 series will.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with support for TLS v1.3 which is expected to be
rapidly adopted due to increased set of supported hashes & algoes, as
  well as improved handshake [re-]negotiation.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with improved hw-acceleration capabilities.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is ABI/API compatible with 1.1.0, however some software
is sensitive to the negotiation handshake and may either need
  patches/improvements or clamp-down to maximum v1.2.

  [Test Case]

   * Rebuild all reverse dependencies

   * Execute autopkg tests for all of them

   * Clamp down to TLS v1.2 software that does not support TLS v1.3 (e.g.
  mongodb)

   * Backport TLS v1.3 support patches, where applicable

  [Regression Potential]

   * Connectivity interop is the biggest issues which will be unavoidable
with introducing TLS v1.3. However, tests on cosmic demonstrate that
curl/nginx/google-chrome/mozilla-firefox connect and negotiate TLS v1.3
  without issues.

   * Mitigation of discovered connectivity issues will be possible by
clamping down to TLS v1.2 in either server-side or client-side software
or by backporting relevant support fixes

[Bug 1815212] Re: [Xenial][Bionic][SRU] Update pci.ids to version 2018.07.21

2019-02-14 Thread Eric Desrochers
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

pci.ids table in Xenial seems a little bit behind in term of new device
id added since last time it was updated.

Some user are observing that their new device doesn't show up because
they don't exist in the pci.ids file yet.

User or troubleshooter may get a wrong impression that, for instance,
the correct raid controller is not present, if the user doesn't read the
  PCI bus address.

While we are here, I will update Xenial and Bionic to be at the same
version level (Version: 2018.07.21) of current devel release (Disco)
which isn't too far behind current upstream (github) one in master
  branch.

  x/pciutils-3.3.1/pci.ids:#Version: 2016.01.02
  b/pciutils-3.5.2/pci.ids:#Version: 2017.03.16
  c/pciutils-3.5.2/pci.ids:#Version: 2018.07.21
  d/pciutils-3.5.2/pci.ids:#Version: 2018.07.21
  upstream/pciutils/pci.ids:# Version: 2018.08.12

  [Test case]

+ * Deploy Xenial and/or Bionic system.
+ * Run 'lspci' command took from the pciutils package found in the Ubuntu
archive
+ * Look all listed devices are recognised with the proper device
name/vendor/...
+
Here's an example took by a user using a device id (0014) not in the
  Xenial pci.ids table:

  lspci on Xenial:
60:00.0 RAID bus controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic Device 0014 (rev 01)

  lspci on Bionic:
60:00.0 RAID bus controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID Tri-Mode
SAS3516 (rev 01)

-
  [Regression Potential]

  Low, no core functionality change.
The intention is to only update pci.ids table list to recognise new PCI
vendor/product list, by updating it to the same version level as Cosmic and
Disco has as of today.

The only thing I can think of ...
In some cases there is some device id renaming, which I guess can "possibly"
impact some user script and/or HW inventory solution. If this happens to
certain users, I don't expect it to have a major impact and this should can be
consider low and easy to fix by the user or admin of the HW inventory solution
... IMHO.

  Example:
  - 67df Ellesmere [Polaris10]
  + 67df Ellesmere [Radeon RX 470/480]

  [Other information]

Confirmed w/ vorlon (SRU verification team) on #ubuntu-release

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Other_safe_cases

For Long Term Support releases we regularly want to enable new hardware.
Such changes are appropriate provided that we can ensure not to affect
upgrades on existing hardware. For example, modaliases of newly
introduced drivers must not overlap with previously shipped drivers.
This also includes updating hardware description data such as udev's
keymaps, media-player-info, mobile broadband vendors, or PCI
  vendor/product list updates.

[Bug 1815996] Re: Hugin freezes after alignment

2019-02-14 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
The attached screenshot shows what the desktop with the empty window and empty
Error box looks like, after going away to a different desktop (to file this
bug) and then returning to it.
Part of the window gets erased, but not redrawn with anything, and hence
remains blank, and the rest doesn't even get redrawn.
The error box gets erased and redrawn blank.

[Bug 1815996] [NEW] Hugin freezes after alignment

2019-02-14 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I just tried to do another long (14 picture) panorama (also with a
tripod).

This one had a wide brightness range, which was eventually going to cause a
problem, but I told it to go ahead and align it anyway.
In two different runs-through, I got two slightly different results:
1: Alignment finished, but I could see a problem between what appeared to be
photos 8 and 9.
I tried to call up the window where I could manually enter control points.
Window comes up - blank. Nothing more. Had to kill the process.
2: The second time around, I noticed that it could find no control points
between Photo 8 and 9.
Not surprising, but when it finished, it put up a window, and then an error box
but both were blank, and nothing further was possible, except killing the
process.

A third time, I started Hugin from the terminal.
some gtk-critical warnings and some info came up immediately, but until I
reached the blank-window=and-error-box stage, nothing more.
Then, I got:
"(hugin:4321): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to allocate
widget with width 0 and height -27

(hugin:4321): Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt to
allocate widget with width -5 and height 17

"
The gtk critical warnings i then noted were also widget-based, so I will
mention that there were 12 identical lines:
"(hugin:4321): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_set_size_request: assertion
'height >= -1' failed
"
I will attach a text file with the complete terminal output.

This appears to be a freeze/endless loop, as when I brought up HTOP, one
or other of my CPU cores was (almost) always at a full 100%

  * scripts/functions: include a new option to skip enslaved network

Include the new variable NETWORK_SKIP_ENSLAVED. When set to a

[Bug 1672682]

2019-02-14 Thread Thomas-wolf-7
According to the error log in the attachment, it was an Eclipse 3.8
(org.eclipse.platform_3.8_155965261) on Ubuntu 16.04, GTK 2. Bug version
is also set to 3.8.1... URL above also gives a link to a Ubuntu bug
report.

Since GTK 2 is no longer supported and neither is Eclipse 3.8, I'd say
this bug is no longer relevant?

[Bug 1815982] [NEW] card with many tags pushes the mnemosyne window far off screen

2019-02-14 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

1) create a vocabulary card

tags: a,b,c,c,e,f,...zzz
word :a
meaning :b

2) have this card come up

what happens:

the mnemosyne window gets really big, horizontally all of a sudden. far
off screen.
you have to manually change the size of the window so it shrinks down again.

what should happen:

if it gets bigger, it should only get a little bit bigger, not so far
off the screen.

OK, this should be either sda2 or sdb2 depending on which order your disks
were detected. So you should be able to do sudo mount /dev/sda2 /boot/efi
to mount it (or /dev/sdb2, depending).

Then once you have replaced that grubx64.efi with the one that allows
booting unsigned kernels, you should run 'sudo umount /boot/efi' to make
sure the disk is cleanly unmounted. After this, you should have a
secureboot-enabled grub on the internal disk which allows you to boot to a
different unsigned kernel on the flash drive in order to reset the firmware
state.

iF sa-compile 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.16. allTools for
compiling SpamAssassin rules into C

The F in dpkg output here is because dpkg-configure fails to
successfully run `sa-compile` for the same reason.

Something, it would seem, is wrong with the C preprocessor include path
at the time when ExtUtils::xsubpp invokes gcc. To the best of my
knowledge, there are no locally installed Perl modules on this server (a
scan of /usr/local shows no perl modules there).

Scratch that. I just found out that the build of SILO I was doing from

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2019-02-14 Thread Marek Hák
The output of 'efibootmgr -v' showed me where the EFI partition is, but
I have no idea where it's mounted or how to get to it.

Boot0004* ubuntuHD(2,GPT,83484852-541d-401e-
84e7-6e6e8549496a,0x1f4800,0x82000)/File(\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi)

Some info that may help:

I do not have the current ubuntu installed on the hard drive itself,
it's installed on a flash drive. My old grub got corrupted or partially
deleted, so now I only have the minimal-bash editing grub. I boot from
the flash drive with:

set prefix=(hd0,msdos2)/boot/grub/
set root=(hd0,msdos2)
insmod normal
normal

After that, I get into a normal grub, that's probably located somewhere
on the flash drive.

The ubuntu on the flash drive was installed on another computer, and
just brought over to the laptop.

Thanks again for any help! I'd really love to sort this out :)

Description of problem:
The F6/mute key on the keyboard of HP notebooks often has a built in LED
indicator to show if the sound is muted. The LED state is never toggled. It
will just retain its state, even though the audio is succesfully muted/unmuted.

Tested with HP Pavilion x360 from 2018.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Press mute key on HP laptop

Actual results:
Mute state in software toggles, LED in mute key does not.

Expected results:
Mute state in software and LED in mute key toggle.

Ah yes, this is exactly what happened, I had disabled updates in my test

be pulled in to the security pocket. Thanks for checking, and thanks for

[Bug 1814818] Re: Skip enslaved devices during boot

2019-02-14 Thread Marcelo Cerri
Verification performed in cosmic using the generic kernel (4.18.0-15.16)
and the previous behaviour was preserved as expected.

We currently don't have a kernel in cosmic that enables that feature by
default, but I built a custom kernel in order to test it and it worked
as expected. In theory it was also possible to manually add the config
variable, but the test kernel is as closest as we can get to the real
use case.

[Bug 1804603] Re: systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service fails on btrfs

2019-02-14 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
all updates are out. there no more further updates planned for this issue.
if you have any issues on your systems, you need to debug what's wrong and open
a new bug report, attaching systemd-journal details from a broken boot.
most likely something is wrong with your system, forexample unsafe ownership,
unsafe permissions, broken host kernel etc.
on all up to date ubuntu systems, installed using ubuntu installers, with
latest ubuntu kernel there are no issues at all.
please open a new bug report, if you have issues with your systems.

Ah yes that makes sense, I'll make sure to note any dependencies that
would need moving in the bug description next time.

Hmm this seems strange, as gnome-software and gnome-software-plugin-
flatpak has version 3.28.1-0ubuntu4 in bionic and version
3.28.1-0ubuntu4.18.04.8 is in bionic-updates (both of the binary
packages are from the same source package so they should match?
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/+source/gnome-software ).

I wonder had you previously updated your machine to have a newer gnome-
software, then disabled bionic-updates to test this ? As then this
message may make sense.

Or do you have any other ideas or suggestions as to what has happened ?
(I have multiple machines and VMs with bionic-updates enabled that have
gnome-software-plugin-flatpak installed successfully).

[Bug 1815948] Re: Upgrade from rocky python2->python3 packages breaks openstack_dashboard alternative

2019-02-14 Thread Corey Bryant
I'm not sure whether the fix belongs in the charm or the package. We
could remove the rendered charm files from /usr/share/openstack-
dashboard/openstack_dashboard prior to upgrading. Another option is the
package could forcefully remove /usr/share/openstack-
dashboard/openstack_dashboard in the preinst script for rocky. The
latter might make sense since it's not much different from removing the
alternative in the prerm/postrm scripts.

[Bug 1815788] Re: lshw exits with segmentation fault when commissioning a new node on maas

2019-02-14 Thread Lee Trager
Can you confirm storage is working correctly for you? Does the system
you are experiencing this on have Intel SGX? Upstream recently committed
a patch [1] to prevent a segmentation fault when using Intel SGX. Can
you try building lshw from source[2] and see if you can reproduce the
issue?

Closing the MAAS issue as this is a problem with lshw, not MAAS.

[Bug 1814393] Re: "make: write error: stdout" on parallel builds

2019-02-14 Thread Scott Kazimour
This happens for me with 18.04, kernel 4.15.0-45-generic.

It does not happen with 4.15.0-43-generic.

Running on xterm (as opposed to terminator) it still happens, but much
later in the build.

[Bug 1802021] Re: [Hyper-V] srcu: Lock srcu_data structure in srcu_gp_start()

2019-02-14 Thread David Coronel
@lazamarius1: Just to clarify, the fix is scheduled to go in the 4.15
kernel in Bionic which is the same kernel as the Xenial HWE kernel. So
there's no need to add anything to the Affects section. You will see a
new linux-hwe 4.15 kernel in xenial-proposed once this is ready to test.
Thanks!

[Bug 1815730] Re: keyboard state scrambled after unlock

2019-02-14 Thread Theo Linkspfeifer
Light-locker uses lightdm-gtk-greeter to display the unlock screen. The
greeter runs "numlockx" on initialization.

Does temporary removing the following file resolve the issue?

/usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-xubuntu-numlock.conf
