[Bug 1824461] [NEW] upgrade to docker.io 18.09.5, containerd 1.2.6, runc 029124da

2019-04-11 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

We should upgrade to docker.io 18.09.5 in xenial+, this now means
updating containerd and runc.

[test case]
autopkgtests per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DockerUpdates

[regression potential]
As per usual, we don't mind if the updated packages regress in some sense,
that's all part of the "upstream experience" we provide for docker et al.

[Bug 1824457] [NEW] Grub problem forced re-install, resulting in crash (see http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/RjjrVvBwSs/)

2019-04-11 Thread Howard Oates
Public bug reported:

In the reinstall, I selected 'manual' for disk setup, set /dev/sda7 to
format as ext4 at /, then selected /dev/sda8 to be set as /home/ with
ext4 type. After returning to the partition layout screen I decided I
should wipe what is in the /home partition in case something there is
causing the grub problem. At the point I clicked on the 'format' check
box the system crashed and requested I file a bug report.

No syslog or partman files can be seen in /var/log/installer/

The battery in these are weak; only 2 cell (7.7v) @ 4600mah. 6hrs is a

[Bug 1823216] Re: [trusty] 3.13.0-167-generic repeatedly trips kernel paging request BUG:

2019-04-11 Thread Liz Fong-Jones
Canarying both 4.4.0-1040-aws #43-Ubuntu and 4.4.0-144-generic
#170~14.04.1-Ubuntu in parallel to see whether the bug trips in either
of these. Should have results by Monday -- it was tripping every ~24h
with 3.13.0-167-generic so if there's no failures by Monday I'll
consider it resolved with the newer kernel train.

[Bug 1824415] Re: Vertical line screen flickers randomly appears on built-in laptop display only

2019-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sorry, but this looks to me like a broken (or just poorly connected) LCD
panel in the laptop. Not a software problem.

I've had similar problems myself before, and the fix each time was to
either replace the LCD panel, or to just reconnect its wires (sometimes
the problem is just a bad connection).

As a first point of call you should return the laptop to where you
bought it, or contact HP Support about a warranty claim.

[Bug 1801338] Re: apt fails to properly handle server-side connection closure

2019-04-11 Thread Ian Childress
This can be reproduced by hosting a mirror on S3. S3 has built in
functionality that closes a connection after 100 requests. We were able
to add comments to apt source that output every time a new connection
was made and we confirmed every 100 requests that S3 did close the
connection. Intermittently, we would get the Undetermined Error during
one of the connection close events. Debug output confirmed there is a
connection: close header. We also confirmed apt identified a 102
connection reset by peer event by printing the error.

So this isn't apache specific, I believe apache is just more prone to
sending connection: close. Because of S3's behavior of closing
connections every 100 requests, it became very noticeable to us.

[Bug 1814832] Re: Correct and/or improve handling of certain quiesced snapshot failures

2019-04-11 Thread Oliver Kurth via ubuntu-bugs
Okay, I tested the quiesced snapshots, both for bionic and cosmic, using
open-vm-tools 2:10.3.5-7~ubuntu0.18.04.1 and 2:10.3.5-7~ubuntu0.18.10.1.
I looked at debug logs, everything is normal.

[Bug 1824436] [NEW] ksmtuned running at 100%

2019-04-11 Thread Ken Sharp
Public bug reported:

I have seen this a number of times on my servers and it's a real pain.

For reasons unknown, ksmtuned starts running at 100% CPU. I cannot
fathom what would cause this as it appears to be nothing more than a
Bash script. My guess is that there's an infinite loop reached
somewhere, possibly a race condition.

Last line in the log shows nothing suspicious:

Sat Feb  2 14:57:08 GMT 2019: 788230 > 3941152, start ksm
Sat Feb  2 14:57:08 GMT 2019: 184148 < 788230, boost
Sat Feb  2 14:57:08 GMT 2019: KSMCTL start 1250 425

...but that does mean it hasn't done anything useful in over a month.

The script calls some external apps, such as awk, but it appears to be
the script itself that has the issue, i.e. none of the external programs
are running when it hits 100%.

[Bug 1824433] [NEW] dhcpd ignores $CONFIG_FILE in /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server

2019-04-11 Thread Norman Wilson
Public bug reported:

Package isc-dhcp-server 4.3.3 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

On earlier (pre-systemd) systems, one could point dhcpd at a
configuration file in any location by setting
CONFIG_FILE=/new/path/dhcpd.conf in /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server.  In
this version such setting is ignored; dhcpd always uses the default
/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf.

In more formulaeic terms:

Put CONFIG_FILE=/var/dhcpconf/mydhcp.conf in /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server.
I expect that when service isc-dhcp-server is next started, it will use that
configuration file.
In fact it still uses /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf.

The problem can be worked around by making /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf a
symlink to the desired config file, but why have /etc/default/isc-dhcp-
server at all if it doesn't work?

The offending code is in /lib/systemd/system/isc-dhcp-server.service.
Here is a relevant extract:

[Service]
EnvironmentFile=/etc/default/isc-dhcp-server
RuntimeDirectory=dhcp-server
# The leases files need to be root:dhcpd even when dropping privileges
ExecStart=/bin/sh -ec '\
CONFIG_FILE=/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf; \
if [ -f /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf ]; then CONFIG_FILE=/etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf; fi; \
[ -e /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases ] || touch /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases; \
chown root:dhcpd /var/lib/dhcp /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases; \
chmod 775 /var/lib/dhcp ; chmod 664 /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases; \
exec dhcpd -user dhcpd -group dhcpd -f -4 -pf /run/dhcp-server/dhcpd.pid
-cf $CONFIG_FILE $INTERFACES'

/etc/default/isc-dhcp-server is correctly read as an EnvironmentFile,
but the ExecStart command unconditionally sets CONFIG_FILE, discarding
any value from the /etc/default file.

One fix might be to change the first few lines of the ExecStart to check
whether $CONFIG_FILE has been set, and perhaps whether it is still the
default value:

ExecStart=/bin/sh -ec '\
case $CONFIG_FILE in \
""|/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf) \
CONFIG_FILE=/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf; \
if [ -f /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf ]; then CONFIG_FILE=/etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf;
fi; \
;; \
esac

Or it might make more sense to let whatever package is in charge of ltsp
configuration append CONFIG_FILE=/etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf to /etc/defaults
/isc-dhcp-server, and replace the lines above with a simple

ExecStart=/bin/sh -ec '\
CONFIG_FILE=${CONFIG_FILE:-/etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf}; \

Either way, a fix would be appreciated.

** Affects: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

@Norbert X: This bug is really fixed. This bug is about selecting _two
shapes_.

Your problem is to select an image together with a shape. The underlying
reason is the same as for selecting two images. And that is bug 34438.
