[Bug 1813944] Re: Backport recent release 10.3.5 to latest LTS

2019-05-13 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
open-vm-tools 11.0 will be too late this cycle (mid September),
therefore in our "one MRE per cycle" approach to ensure thr latest LTS
stays up to match hypervisors we will backport 10.3.10 now.

[Bug 1828935] [NEW] Add powerpc/alignment_handler test for selftests

2019-05-13 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

== Justification ==
There is a powerpc/alignment_handler available in the upstream for PowerPC
self-testing tool.
Bring this in to cover more bits in the ubuntu_kernel_selftest test suite.

== Fix ==
* 8d191587 (selftests/powerpc: Add alignment handler selftest)
* ecdf06e1 (selftests/powerpc: Fix to use ucontext_t instead of struct ucontext)

Both of them can be cherry-picked into Bionic kernel.
The second patch is essential to fix a build error.

It's already available in Cosmic and onward.

== Test ==
Test was successfully built and passed on a Power9 node with Bionic kernel:

[Bug 1828927] [NEW] RabbitVCS compare revisions in SVN doesn't work

2019-05-13 Thread Doug Brown
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: rabbitvcs-core
Version: 0.16-1.1

There is a bug in Ubuntu's distribution of RabbitVCS 0.16-1.1 which
causes it to be completely useless when comparing revisions in SVN
repositories. It always checks out the HEAD revision of SVN repositories
when doing comparisons, so they always show no changes.

This bug was already fixed upstream. Ubuntu should include it. The bug
is definitely present in 18.04. It wasn't a problem with 16.04, which
had version 0.16-1.

More information here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/890091/rabbitvcs-not-displaying-compare-revisions-correctly-with-meld-in-ubuntu-16-10

Re: [Bug 1817234] Re: Bug in "python3-ebooklib" that was fixed upstream years ago but package is outdated

2019-05-13 Thread Raúl Soriano
With all due respect, this kind of response is ridiculous. Don't take
this personally, I'm talking about the situation, not your reply.

I'm using Ubuntu, not Debian, so I report a problem in Ubuntu, not in
Debian, and whatever steps Ubuntu need to take to resolve the problem
should be handled by Ubuntu itself. Asking an user to go somewhere
else for help with a problem in Ubuntu gives a VERY VERY BAD
IMPRESSION.

If I where an average user who took the time to learn how and where
to report a problem, just to be told "go somewhere else, figure out
how they do things, register in their web so you can report and leave
us alone", I'd just stop using Ubuntu all together.

If I used Debian, Arch, Fedora, SuSe or any other distribution, I
wouldn't be reporting a problem TO Ubuntu, but just so happens that
I'm an user of Ubuntu, and here is my report. I refuse to go somewhere
else.

Back on topic about the python3-ebooklib package, Ubuntu can choose
not to distribute an unmaintained package if that's the best option
they have, but distributing an OLD, OUTDATED and BUGGY package is
plain wrong.

Still the same; on my d960 box, bumped to 19.10 ~9 days after 19.04's
release.

My box still has LXQt (lubuntu-desktop), XFCE (xubuntu-desktop) & MATE
(ubuntu-mate-desktop) installed. I notice this issue also when I use
MATE (I mostly login using LXQt these days).

[Bug 1809224] Re: To support Intel Wireless-AX 22000 series

2019-05-13 Thread AceLan Kao
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
-
+ New Intel Cyclone Peak Wifi doesn't work without newly added driver.
+
  [Fix]
+ Cherry pick iwlwifi commits from v5.0 to v5.1, and confirmed with proper
firmware the wifi works.

  [Test]
+ Verified on AX200NGW & 22560NGW chips & Killer 1653 card, wifi works well.

  [Regression Potential]
+ Medium, it affects the whole iwlwifi driver, but I've verified it with fwst
S3 test, and the wifi is still working after S3 test 30 times.

Please also tell us if you have many desktop icons, whether you see them
flashing at all, and whether files are being added/removed from the
desktop very often.

[Bug 1828775] Re: High memory consumption

2019-05-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, you definitely have a leak there. Thanks for the extra info.

It's worth remembering you need to ignore 'VIRT' in ps, which is the
same thing as 'VmSize' in /proc/PID/status. Because that huge number is
virtual address space and not real memory.

The important number to look at is VmData in /proc/PID/status. According
to your most recent feedback the VmData value is between 1.4GB and
2.6GB. Definitely too high so definitely a bug.

Next we need to figure out what is special or unusual about the system
that leads to such high memory usage. The only special thing I can see
right now is that you are using the AMDGPU kernel and Xorg drivers so we
need to test whether that is the cause.

I wonder if you could try disabling the amdgpu Xorg driver? Please try
moving or deleting:

  /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-amdgpu.conf

then reboot. If that doesn't work out then you can restore it with:

  sudo apt install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu

You may also want to try blacklisting amdgpu in the kernel:

  https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/360709/how-to-blacklist-
amdgpu

Once you think you have successfully disabled the AMDGPU Xorg driver,
please attach another copy of Xorg.*.log

[Bug 1828908] [NEW] Relative symlink in /var/lib/transmission-daemon should be absolute

2019-05-13 Thread Jason Heeris
Public bug reported:

~ ⌘ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release:18.04

~ ⌘ apt-cache policy transmission-daemon
transmission-daemon:
  Installed: 2.92-3ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.92-3ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.92-3ubuntu2 500
500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

After installing transmission-daemon, the directory /var/lib
/transmission-daemon/ contains a directory symlinked to '.config
/transmission-daemon':

~ ⌘ sudo ls -alh /var/lib/transmission-daemon/info
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Feb  7  2018 /var/lib/transmission-daemon/info ->
.config/transmission-daemon

Since this is a relative link, if I start transmission-daemon in an
arbitrary directory, I get the following errors:

~ ⌘ sudo -u debian-transmission transmission-daemon -f --log-error --log-info
--log-debug
[2019-05-14 11:29:52.373] Couldn't read "/home/jason/.config/user-dirs.dirs":

It seems like this should be an absolute link, since there actually is a
directory /var/lib/transmission-daemon/info/.config/transmission-daemon

[Bug 1828908] Re: Relative symlink in /var/lib/transmission-daemon should be absolute

I think my report is not accurate. Replacing the symlink with an
absolute one didn't help. Transmission seems to want to read my user
dirs no matter what.

[Bug 1828906] [NEW] upgrade to Linux 4.15.0-48-generic crashes display on lenovo G500

2019-05-13 Thread Jeff
Public bug reported:

Last week my Lenovo G500 laptop running ubuntu 18.04 reported an
available system update of about 180 MBs, which included a kernel
version update. I installed it and following the reboot, the display
hung with a purple screen with bands of random colored pixels across the
screen.

If I reboot and hold down SHIFT to get to GRUB, it presents the
following choices under Advanced Options:

Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-48-generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-48-generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-47-generic
Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-47-generic (recovery mode)

If I select 4.15.0-48-generic, I get the display hang problem described
above or other forms of display misbehavior (sometimes it flashes
continuously, sometimes it just hangs at a black screen, its not
consistent).

If I select 4.15.0-47-generic, it boots up just fine to a completely
usable desktop. Every time.

I've tried running boot-repair. It reported that it had repaired GRUB,
but the problem persists. So I don't think its a boot parameters
problem. I conclude that the problem has something to do with the
display driver in 4.15.0-48-generic that was not present in
4.15.0-47-generic.

[Bug 1798961] Re: Random unrecoverable freezes on Ubuntu 18.10

2019-05-13 Thread S Prasanth
I've had these freeze issues for a while, and I've been following this
thread for a while (comment #42 helped, though I still have occasional
freezes).

Googled "Fedora random freeze" today and found this:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_F28_bugs#Certain_laptops_.28Lenovo.29_hang_randomly

Apparently an issue in Ubuntu also:
https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/software/desktop-linux/1020821
-fedora-workstation-28-is-shaping-up-to-be-another-terrific-
update?p=1020982#post1020982

And the timing of these bugreports/comments coincides with when these
freezes started affecting me...

Long story short, we can try adding `ahci.mobile_lpm_policy=1` or
`ahci.mobile_lpm_policy=0` to the kernel options in grub. Supposedly
confirmed to help Lenovo G50-80, X250 and T450s. We have a G40-80 and
T470s affected on this thread, and mine's a Lenovo G500s (similar to
G50-80). Maybe it'll help? (praying that it helps)

It's possible that these freezes have multiple causes, and won't be
completely fixed even if the workaround helps at all.

[Bug 1812232] Re: Deprecation warnings

2019-05-13 Thread Unit 193
Howdy,

While attempting to use this version of pastebinit with the openstack
pastebin, it fails and spits out the following error:

Failed to contact the server: POST data should be bytes, an iterable of
bytes, or a file object. It cannot be of type str.

As this is a regression, I don't think this should be SRU'd as-is.

[Bug 1825010] Re: [sru] new sosreport v3.7

2019-05-13 Thread Eric Desrochers
Before pushing the sosreport v3.7 into Debian and Ubuntu. There is a
couple of things that I want to see being merge upstream. The most
important part is the refactoring of the juju plugin.

We had a discussion with security team about how they would drop
privileges inside the juju plugin, and the decision was made that
'runuser -P' would be the best way.

-P or --pty is not available in Xenial as of today. I have reported a
bug that I'm going to work on to add the PTY support. For more details
see : (LP: #1828901)

[Bug 1825010] Re: [sru] new sosreport v3.7

2019-05-13 Thread Eric Desrochers
@David Negreira, can you test your refactoring plugin with 'runuser -u
juju-user -P ' ?

and see if it works as expected, for now the test will need to be done
on Bionic and late due to what I have explained in comment #3.

Yea, I'd be for going systemd unit files only. They will always take
precedence on 18.04+, so might as well only provide them.

[Bug 1828901] [NEW] add PTY support for runuser

2019-05-13 Thread Eric Desrochers
Public bug reported:

[IMPACT]

[TEST CASE]

[REGRESSION POTENTIAL]

[OTHER INFORMATION]

Debbug:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=815922

This is fixing a CVE vulnerability:
https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2016-2779

Restricting ioctl on the kernel side seems the better approach, patches have
been posted to kernel-hardening list
http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2016/02/27/1
https://marc.info/?l=util-linux-ng&m=145694736107128&w=2
2.31 introduces a new --pty option to separate privileged and unprivileged
shells (not enabled by default and the cli switch is necessary).

[ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION]
After a discussion with security team on what would be their recommended way to
run command as 'juju-user' inside the sosreport juju plugin which is run as
root, in order to avoid using 'sudo' or 'su' command.

The recommendation was to use 'runuser -P'

runuser PTY support is present in Bionic and late, but not in Xenial.

I'm opening this bug in the effort to update util-linux/runuser code in
Xenial to add the PTY support.

+ This issue was limited to Moonshot ARM64 node, ThunderX works fine.

After the node was deployed with 4.15 Bionic, it will install linux-
  generic-hwe-18.04-edge package and reboot.

However, it will time out when waiting this node to come back up.
This will need some further investigations.
