tear in the multi-monitor case and there is an effort underway by Intel

AFAIK, gnome-system-monitor is one of those rare apps which are software
rendered (because GTK) but also try to animate at a smooth frame rate.
It's a rare combination and a useful test case.

What was happening when plasmashell crashed:
I pressed super button to open the menu, then the R key and Enter key.
The menu is just Kickoff in Application Launcher mode, nothing unusual.
I haven't been able to reproduce it reliably. Possibly a race condition?
