[Bug 1830515] Re: CUPS Avahi advertisements are wrong (CUPS or Avahi???)

2019-05-25 Thread MarkosJal
** Description changed:

  First I do not know if this is a CUPS issue or an Avahi issue.

  I do not know whether Avahi or CUPS generates the files nor where they
  are. They are not in /etc/avahi/services, where I expected to find them,
  so they must lie somewhere in CUPS.

  I have a printer installed in CUPS. I must use the driver from a
  different model to make it work. Among other things I want avahi and
  CUPS to show the printer name, consistently unless related to the print
  driver used.

  avahi-browse shows

  Xerox_Phaser-6125 @ Hostname (correct)

  Later however in Txt fields avahi-browse shows "product=(DocuPrint C525
  A-AP)" .. "ty=FX DocuPrint C525 A-AP v1.0" (incorrect printer
  model but is the driver in use. Those fields relate to Product and type,
  not driver)

  The problem above I suppose is the "trickle don effect" from how CUPS
  names the printer. In the CUPS web GUI I see

   Queue NameDescription Location Make and Model
   Status
  Xerox_Phaser-6125 Xerox_Phaser-6125   HomeFX DocuPrint C525 A-AP
v1.0 Idle - "Waiting for printer to finish."

  The Make and Model is not Make and model at all, rather it comes from
  the driver used. I know it is commonplace to use say an HP LaserJet PS
  driver when you want PostScript , like back in the day when I printed to
  a LaserWriter, so I am not the only one that sees this.

  Also, I think there should be a proper "representation" in the txt
  fields as well icon as is done with AirScan/eSCL scanners advertisements
  "representation=http://HOSTNAME./images/Icon.png; as I believe some apps
  will use this icon of the actual printer. This field should not be
  required but optional. These days we connect many different OSs to Linux
  and expect Linux to "do it all", and we still want it to look pretty and
  correct. I know Apple in some cases uses the "representation" field.
  This "representation" field too would have to tricke down from CUPS to
  Avahi, as Avahi would only point to the file at
  http://HOSTNAME:631/images/Icon.png. So it needs to hosted on the CUPS
  web GUI.

- I also recently read that some distros (Debian?) are moving away from
- the GUI utilities to configure printers in favor of the CUPS web GUI ,
- making this more relevant than ever.

+
+ edit---
+
+ On a second printer an HP Color Laserjet 2600N there is a similar issue
+ using the foomatic driver as "Recomended" appears in some dialogs as if
+ it is a recommended printer. The "recomended relates to it being the
+ recommended of the three available drivers for this printer model.

When using multiple display scales for displays with different DPIs,
resizing windows may cause windows to temporarily forget which display's
scale they're supposed to be using.

[Bug 1830513] [NEW] Display scaling inconsistencies while using Wayland

2019-05-25 Thread Landon R. Brainard
Public bug reported:

I have a 2880x1620 onboard display and a 1080p external display that I
use for my computer. As far as I can tell xorg does not allow for
different scaling options for two separate displays. Based on
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1028622/different-display-scale-
settings-18-04 I logged in with Wayland and thought I had achieved the
effect I wanted. However, after I started using my computer, I realized
that some applications were still scaled based on the display I set to
be primary. I have my 1080p display set as primary. Firefox, for
example, looks just fine on my primary, but when I move it to the
higher-DPI display, it does not look correct.

[Bug 1830509] [NEW] postinst for debian package `owncloud-client-cmd` does not touch `/etc/owncloud-client/sync-exclude.lst`

2019-05-25 Thread Sirio Balmelli
Public bug reported:

## Summary

The file `/etc/owncloud-client/sync-exclude.lst` should be touched at
install time to avoid an error the first time `owncloudcmd` is run

## Expected behaviour

Installing `owncloud-client-cmd` on a vanilla Ubuntu Server image:

```bash
$ uname -r
4.15.0-38-generic
$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS \n \l
$ sudo apt-get install owncloud-client-cmd
# ... output elided for brevity
$ owncloudcmd --version
ownCloud version 2.4.1
Git revision cd60c2b88ac858339637575f124c58d88b42e78c
Using Qt 5.9.5, built against Qt 5.9.4
Using 'OpenSSL 1.1.0g  2 Nov 2017'
$ mkdir ./ownCloud
$ owncloudcmd -u USER -p PASSWORD ./ownCloud URL
# sync succeeds
$
```

## Actual behaviour (failure) and manual fix

```bash
$ sudo apt-get install owncloud-client-cmd
$ mkdir ./ownCloud
$ owncloudcmd -u USER -p PASSWORD ./ownCloud URL
# ... output elided for brevity
[ fatal default ]:  Cannot load system exclude list or list supplied via
--exclude
$ sudo mkdir -p /etc/owncloud-client
$ sudo touch /etc/owncloud-client/sync-exclude.lst
$ owncloudcmd -u USER -p PASSWORD ./ownCloud URL
# success
```

## Proposed changes

I would propose to add the following lines to `DEBIAN/postinst` in the
package ... except when I unpack the .tar.xf for this package

I don't see a DEBIAN directory.

My (limited) packaging experience has only dealt with packages that have
a DEBIAN directory, so I am out of my depth.

If this package did have a `DEBIAN/postinst` I would propose the
following addition:

```bash
# add to owncloud-client-cmd/DEBIAN/postinst
TGT=/etc/owncloud-client/sync-exclude.lst
[[ -e $TGT ]] || mkdir -p $(dirname $TGT) && touch $TGT
```

## Notes

Any pointers about how to navigate this kind of package and how to
submit pull requests would be much appreciated.

This issue was originally reported [on
github](https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/7207) but looks like
they have no control over the packaging.

best,

Sirio

[Bug 1830503] Re: [MS-7C02, Realtek ALC892, Red Line Out, Rear] No sound at all

2019-05-25 Thread Hui Wang
If you plug sth in the Red lineout rear, does the UI detect your
plugging (gnome-sound-setting).

When the Red lineout rear jack is plugged sth, please run "sudo
hdajacksensetest -c 1 -a", and upload the output.

Does the rest 3 lineout jacks (maybe black color jacks) work well?

[Bug 1830506] Re: internal compiler error: in type_throw_all_p, at cp/except.c:1307

2019-05-25 Thread BaiYang
If I change `~MyClass()` to `~MyClass() noexcept` than everything is ok.

[Bug 1830503] Re: [MS-7C02, Realtek ALC892, Red Line Out, Rear] No sound at all

2019-05-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

How far did you get in troubleshooting sound? ie. did you attempt to
follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure
or another wiki site?

I believe a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu . You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org.

I can see no crash info, no issues with detecting your hardware, and "No
sound" isn't very helpful in knowing what you've attempted to do in
order to get sound working. I'm going to mark this 'incomplete' and
suggest you go to a support site; if you feel I'm in error, please
provide more detail and change it to 'New"

[Bug 1830502] Re: apparmor fails to start with no parser errors

2019-05-25 Thread John Johansen
No the warnings won't cause apparmor to fail, however the kernel killing
the apparmor_parser will, and that won't report a parse error.

The Ubuntu apparmor.service calls the apparmor_parser once for each
profile. Which means you are getting a some profiles loaded but not all
of them.

Can you check your kernel messages/dmesg to see for what reason the
kernel is killing the apparmor_parser.

A fix and enhancement was submitted at:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/7185#issuecomment-455410941

and seems to improve this a lot..
The main issue is with `systemctl start ` and the results can be seen for
a search like:
`systemctl start apac`.

This is fixed by e2fsprogs 1.45.1-3 in Debian, or in the soon to be
released e2fsprogs 1.45.2.

e2fsprogs (1.45.1-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fix e2scrub_all cron failures (Closes: #9292870)

e2fsprogs (1.45.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Avoid spurious e2scrub_all error messages spamming administrators from
cron/systemd timer units when lvm2 is not installed and/or there are
no lvm devices present in the system (Closes: #928977, #929186, #929254)

[Bug 1830502] [NEW] apparmor fails to start with no parser errors

2019-05-25 Thread Ian Johnson
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS Desktop, after running out of space on my disk, my
system was unable to finish booting and I had to go into recovery mode
and remove a number of files before the system would boot. After doing
so I discovered that now the apparmor.service systemd unit always fails
to start. I see this in dmesg:

[ 1066.975360] Out of memory: Kill process 6799 (apparmor_parser) score 796 or
sacrifice child
[ 1066.975364] Killed process 6799 (apparmor_parser) total-vm:15057348kB,

[ 1067.406595] oom_reaper: reaped process 6799 (apparmor_parser), now
anon-rss:0kB, file-rss:0kB, shmem-rss:0kB

Whenever apparmor.service is attempted to be started by systemd, i.e.
either on boot, or later with `systemctl start apparmor`.

The log from journalctl doesn't show any actual issues with any profiles
just this:

-- Reboot --
May 25 17:00:58 systemd[1]: Starting AppArmor initialization...

May 25 17:05:25 systemd[1]: Failed to start AppArmor initialization.

I can see that apparmor profiles are active after doing this (using aa-
status), but it's still troubling that apparmor runs into an issue
without actually saying what the error is.

2019-05-25 Thread Dave Bar
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1830444] Re: IPv4 does not provide "Shared to other computers" method

2019-05-25 Thread Dan Kortschak
This is part of the set up process for installation of ev3dev linux on
an EV3 robot controller (see https://www.ev3dev.org/docs/tutorials
/connecting-to-the-internet-via-usb/ scroll down to the linux
instructions).

Connection to the USB via USB is an mandatory step prior to setting up
wi-fi. This step does not work without this option.

[Bug 1818407] Re: Cant access emmc, error -84

2019-05-25 Thread jagdtigger
Okay as a temporary solution lower the speed to hs200. Boot up the
machine while hitting the F8 button, press cancel when the boot options
box pops up. Then proceed to advanced mode(f7), here go to Chipset/South
Cluster Configuration/SCC Configuration. Here select eMMC max speed and
select hs200. Then click on Save & Exit in the middle, there click Save
and reset. Do not touch anything else in there because it can brick the
device and the only way to reset the BIOS is to blow it apart...

[Bug 1804786] Re: Garbage occurred when Playing the video in the Ubuntu Desktop Guide

2019-05-25 Thread Doug Smythies
The VM that I revived had not been run or updated since an early
development version of 18.04, and it worked fine for playing the help
videos. When I updated it, the yelp package did not update, but webkit
did:

doug@desk-aa:~$ grep -i webkit /var/log/apt/term.log | grep over
Unpacking libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37:amd64 (2.24.1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1) over (2.20.1-1)
...
Unpacking gir1.2-webkit2-4.0:amd64 (2.24.1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1) over (2.20.1-1) ...

After the update to current package versions, the help video issue was present.
I looked at the changelog at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit2gtk/+changelog
but am not familiar with this stuff and didn't notice anything, but probably
wouldn't have anyhow.

[Bug 220263] Re: Bad Firefox integration with dark themes

2019-05-25 Thread Scott Palmer
For those that run linux and want to update their Firefox icon so it
automatically launches with GTK_THEME="Adwaita:light" firefox %u instead
(band-aid work around that shouldn't need to be).

$ cp /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop ~/.local/share/applications
$ gedit ~/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop

Change the "Exec=" line to read:

Exec=bash -c "GTK_THEME=\"Adwaita:light\" firefox %u &"

Save and Exit.
Now your Firefox icon should start using the Adwaita:light theme without a
lingering terminal window.

[Bug 1830489] Re: I don't Know

2019-05-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 220263] Re: Bad Firefox integration with dark themes

2019-05-25 Thread Scott Palmer
I am having this issue with Firefox 66.0.3 using Ubuntu 19.04 (Gnome
3.32 using Adwaita dark).

This release seems to ignore:

  widget.content.allow-gtk-dark-theme in about:config is set to default / false
  widget.chrome.allow-gtk-dark-theme in about:config is also default /false

I came back to Firefox after running Brave for a bit only to find this
Is this just another Mozilla blunder? Time to install Brave again.

[Bug 1830496] [NEW] Ghostscript 9.26 does not set bounding box correctly

2019-05-25 Thread Andrew G
Public bug reported:

Ghostscript 9.26 in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has a bug which causes wrongly
sized boundary boxes in output from epstool. This appears to a single-
line typing mistake that has been fixed in Ghostscript 9.27. Could
Ghostscript 9.26 (used in 18.04 LTS) be patched?

Details of bug and fix are here:
https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=700306

Bug 700306: Fix values returned by bbox device.

The "any part of a pixel" code in the new scan converter holds a
"cursor" position that determines where edges intersect with
the scanlines. The leftmost and rightmost positions of intersection
are held in this as values of type fixed.

The "null" cursor position is represented by using maximal/minimal
values. Unfortunately, I used {max,min}_int_in_fixed, rather than
{max,min}_fixed, which meant they weren't nearly as maximal/minimal
as they ought to have been.

[Bug 1162216] Re: touchscreen does not tap - sometimes

2019-05-25 Thread Marian Klein
still problem exist with kubuntu 19.04/disco in May 2019. This is a shame.
There are plenty of convertable devices laptop/tablet on the market.
HP spectre x360 Convertible. model 13-ae053na.

Touchscreen hover is not the same as touchpad hover. Has different
action associated in plasma.

Hovering over an icon gets the focus of the icon for a touchpad , but not with
a touchscreen.
With the focus on the icon the click or double click work for a touchpad.
To test: I can always trigger a tap/single click/double click on touchscreen ,
when previously hovering with touchpad over the icon. I always open/launch the
icon like that.

[Bug 1830495] [NEW] tzdata noninteractive mode is being ignored

2019-05-25 Thread Rick Spencer via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

This bug is related to Bug #1773687

I am trying to automate the build of an AMI with a package that requires
tzdata. I am blocked from automation because tzdata will not install
non-interactively. This is despite setting
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive.

Here is an interactive session that shows the same problem.

2019-05-25 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna via ubuntu-bugs
Quoting the email:
* Issue is fixed in disco

* Unable to reproduce it in cosmic or bionic

Probably bug occurs only with calendarserver 9.2 (the version in disco)?
bionic and cosmic have calendarserver 9.1.

2019-05-25 Thread Wan Lam
This bug is present with Ubuntu 19.04 too. VLC works fine. Problem is
with the default Gnome Videos player. Mine is a Dell laptop XPS 15
L501x. Solution from Cristhian Steven Echeverry Z. #6 worked for me.
Thank you.
