This might (again?) be a stray bug update.

[Bug 1836567] Re: GIMP 2.10.12 crash on LUbuntu 18.04

2019-07-15 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The 18.04 packaged version of GIMP 2.8.22, even 19.10 only has 2.10.8-2
packaged for it. It does not look like you are using the Ubuntu packaged
version of Gimp.

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if
somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software
by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME (or
https://www.gimp.org/bugs/). If you have done so, please tell us the
number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that
will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1836691] [NEW] Update to 1.49

2019-07-15 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
A newer snapd-glib is available that adds support for new features in snapd.
snapd-glib has an SRU exception as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdGlibUpdates

[Test Case]
The reverse depends of snapd-glib should continue to function, this is
currently:
- gnome-software
- gnome-initial-setup
- pulseaudio

[Regression Potential]
Any new release has a risk of introducing bugs, this is mitigated by automatic
regression tests.

[Bug 1836467] Re: Bluetooth fails with "Bluetooth: hci0: request failed to create LE connection: status 0x0c" message with Kernel 4.20 and up

2019-07-15 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Hi @wjbaird, thank you for the logs. From your lspci output, we should
be able to confirm it's a "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless AC 9560"[1], and
we should have the support in linux-oem-osp1 kernel since bug 1833065.
For -generic kernel flavors, the backport-iwlwifi-dkms in ppa:canonical-
hwe-team/pc-oem-dkms[2] is required, and we're working on publish it to
ubuntu archive.

For bluetooth, unfortunately we still have no luck to retrieve the
firmware name from dmesg. I met this before. All I know is that it takes
a complete power off, wait for a period, power on and you may find the
line that gives firmware name in this first boot. With the blob firmware
name, we may begin to find out which revision of that given blob works
for you. If the latest one from linux-firmware git repository[3] still
doesn't work well, then we'll probably need to file a bug to Intel
instead.

[Bug 1790657] Re: [SRU] amqp-tools server parameter unusable

2019-07-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The --server and -url parameters do not function as documented, due to an
upstream coding error that was fixed in release 0.8.1.

  [Test Case]
  $ sudo apt-get -y install librabbitmq-dev
  $ sudo apt-get -y install amqp-tools

  ### Broken behavior:
  $ sudo amqp-consume --server=foobar:5672 -q queue cat
both --server and --url options specify server host

  ### Fixed behavior:
+ $ sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:bryce/librabbitmq-sru-1790657
+ $ sudo apt-get -y install librabbitmq-dev
  $ sudo amqp-consume --server=foobar:5672 -q queue cat
- TBD
+ Specifying the port number with --server is deprecated
+ opening socket to foobar:5672

  [Regression Potential]
The patch alters C code to change how command line options are processed.
Things to watch for, then, would be mishandling of cli options, or compilation
errors during package build. The changes do not alter input handling at all,
so static testing should give a high degree of confidence of stability. Also,
the alterations are focused on tools, so general operation of librabbitmq
should not be affected in any way by the changes.

  [Fix]
The upstream patch corrects handling of --server, --url, and other options by
reorganizing the logic flow.

  [Discussion]
The issue appears not to be a regression from a recent change, but a problem
that has existed for quite a while:

   librabbitmq | 0.0.1.hg216-1 | precise/universe | source
   librabbitmq | 0.4.1-1 | trusty | source
   librabbitmq | 0.7.1-1 | xenial/universe | source
   librabbitmq | 0.8.0-1build1 | bionic/universe | source
   librabbitmq | 0.8.0-1build1 | cosmic/universe | source
   librabbitmq | 0.9.0-0.2 | disco| source
   librabbitmq | 0.9.0-0.2 | eoan | source

The fix should be backported to bionic and probably cosmic. Earlier
releases are probably also affected but probably only worth doing if the
  patch applies cleanly to them.

  [Original Report]
The version of amqp-tools in 18.04.1 LTS (and 14.04 iirc) has a bug which
renders parts of the cli unusable:

  https://github.com/alanxz/rabbitmq-c/issues/364

  1) 18.04.1 LTS bionic
  2) 0.8.0-1build1
  3) `amqp-consume --server=foobar:5672 -q queue cat` should work
  4) amqp-consume complains that you cannot use --server and --url together

I guess the problem here is that this bug is reported against the wrong

[Bug 1489855] Re: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions

2019-07-15 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
There's a lot going on in this bug but I've just uploaded a change to
casper that fixes at least something in the right area. With this
change, I can run this script on an ISO:

#!/bin/bash
ISO=$1

truncate -s 1G $ISO
maxend=$(sfdisk $ISO -l -q -o end | tail -n +2 | sort -n | tail -n1)
start=$(((maxend + 1 + 0xfff) & ~0xfff))
echo "start=$start" | sfdisk $ISO -a -q
dev=$(sudo losetup -Pf --show $ISO)
sudo mkfs -L casper-rw -t ext4 ${dev}p3
sudo losetup -d $dev

And then boot it attached to a VM with "persistent" on the command line
and persistence seems to work as far as I can tell. What else is broken?
:)

[Bug 1836476] Re: Binarypplication/x-rpm: bcmwl

2019-07-15 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1836669] [NEW] [needs-upgrade] gnome-clocks 3.32.2

Please update the gnome-clocks package in disco. There is a bug where
adding certain time zones may break your entire session (you have to
reset your GNOME settings to be able to log in again). See here for more

[Bug 1836666] [NEW] Xenial update: 4.4.183 upstream stable release

[Bug 1835939] Re: The 18.04 linux kernel hangs and crashes when shutting down a Windows 10 instance running under vmware

Thanks Scott, I've made the bug public.

There's a surprising number of crashes reported to the error tracker --
I wonder if your hardware is entirely stable? Have you run memtest86 or
memtest86+ recently? Is there anything in your smartctl output that
would indicate drive problems?

Thanks

[Bug 1824986] Re: twinkle doesn't start (stack smashing detected) (Lubuntu 18.04)

2019-07-15 Thread Frédéric Brière
Thank you very much for the backtrace.

It would appear this is actually a bug within Qt (libqt5qml5 from the
looks of it). I managed to find a KDE bug[1] with a similar backtrace,
and their conclusion was the same (though they pointed to QtQuick as the
culprit). In any case, I have reassigned this bug to qtdeclarative-
opensource-src.

In the meantime, could you generate another backtrace, this time after
installing the libqt5qml5-dbgsym, libqt5widgets5-dbgsym and
libqt5core5a-dbgsym packages? This should provide more information to
help the Qt team diagnose this bug.

Thanks, and good luck!

[Bug 1836659] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04's ibus package breaks password fields in Firefox again

2019-07-15 Thread pavel heimlich
Public bug reported:

On an uptodate Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS system I am observing the same symptoms as in
bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1765304

When I focus a password field in Firefox, it starts focusing and unfocusing
rapidly, making it difficult to type passwords.
Also, CPU usage goes up with the 4 processes eating most:
%Cpu(s): 25,3 us, 11,0 sy, 0,0 ni, 63,5 id
Xorg 60%
gnome-flashback 21%
firefox 20%
ibus-daemon 4%

Launching Firefox with
GTK_IM_MODULE=xim firefox
makes it go away.

This started several (~7) days ago.

[Bug 1767992] Re: Linux md raid-10 freezes during resync

2019-07-15 Thread Connor Kuehl
Thank you for testing that and providing a test case, Damir!

I've gone ahead and submitted that patch to the mailing list:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2019-July/102199.html

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * If regular and resync IO happen at the same time during a regular IO
+ split, the split bio will wait until resync IO finishes while at the
+ same time the resync IO is waiting for regular IO to finish. This
+ results in deadlock.
+
+ * I believe this only impacts Bionic as Disco+ already contains this
+ commit. Xenial doesn't contain the commit that this one fixes.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ The test kernel containing this commit received positive feedback in the
+ launchpad bug.
+
+ From the launchpad bug comment #10:
+
+ "For reproduce on 4.15.0-50-generic: Make new raid-10, add some io fio/dd,
+ unpack anaconda archives, after minute or two deadlocked"
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * This fix has been in mainline since December 2018 and I don't see any
+ fixup commits upstream referencing this one. The small number of
+ changes in this commit seem reasonable for managing the `nr_pending`
+ adjustments which preclude either regular or resync IO.
+
+
+ Original bug description follows:
+ -
+
I'm trying to setup a few nodes with software raid-10.

When array is created and resync is running i'm trying to install a few
packages and frequently system stops responding, resync process stops,
and I'm getting following errors in the kernel log.

This looks like a deadlock for me.

I had this problem in both 18.04 and 16.04. Reboot is the only way to
  fix the node.

- For all(as I know) Huawei servers, the vga adapter are embed in the iBMC
- chips. Those server can install from ISO manually for 16.04.4 and screen
- display normally. But for 18.04 ( tested both for daily and final
- beta)version, the install screen is blur. One of tested server is Huawei
- 2855 v5, the certification link for 16.04 are
- https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201707-25596/.
+ BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762940

- Below are key difference of dmesg. It seems might related with DRM.
+ [Impact]

- 18.04 install screen is blur

+ amd64 based Huawei servers have problems where the display output of

- [8.795071] checking generic (9800 30) vs hw (a 1)
- [8.795121] fb1: VGA16 VGA frame buffer device
- ...
+ Example:
+
+ https://launchpadlibrarian.net/365907668/creen_picture_for_blur.png
+
+ The issue is caused by the hibmc_drm kernel module being loaded. The PCI ID
for the iBMC chips on amd64 hardware is the same as arm64 hardware, but the
+ hibmc_drm driver was developed only for use on arm64 hardware, most notably
for the Huawei D05 development board.
+
+ The impact to Huawei is that their customers cannot use Ubuntu server install
+ media as the screen goes "blurry" when the d-i install media or subuqity
+ installer loads the hibmc_drm kernel module after language selection.
+
+ The only workaround for their customers is to press the "E" key during
+ the very first installer menu and adding "modprobe.blacklist=hibmc_drm"
+ to the kernel command line in the grub menu. This is not good for
+ customer experience with their servers.
+
+ Other problems exist for the hibmc_drm driver on amd64, such as working on
+ bios, but not uefi, and not being wayland compatible, making the screen
blurry whenever a desktop session is started and gdm loaded.
+
+ Huawei have asked us to remove hibmc_drm from all architectures except arm64,
+ and this aligns with advice from Hisilicon.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ I modified the config/annotations file to remove all architectures
+ except arm64, and created a patch for Kconfig to set a firm requirement
+ on ARM64 for hibmc_drm.
+
+ I will send the Kconfig patch upstream in the coming days for a more
+ permanent fix.
+
+ [Testcase]
+
+ Apply the patches and run:
+
+ ubuntu-bionic/CONFIGS$ fakeroot debian/rules genconfigs
+ ubuntu-bionic/CONFIGS$ grep -Rin "hibmc" .
+ ./arm64-config.flavour.generic:5739:CONFIG_DRM_HISI_HIBMC=m
+
+ You should see that only arm64 has the config option enabled.
+
+ A test kernel has been built, and is available here:
+
+ Huawei requested a test d-i install iso to test server install with, which
can be found here and uses the kernel from the ppa above:
+
https://people.canonical.com/~mruffell/sf232667_ubuntu_server_d-i_20190711b1.iso
+
+ Both the test kernel and the custom d-i install iso have been tested on amd64
+ Huawei server hardware successfully and video output is functional.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Regressions will be limited to hardware containing the iBMC chips from
+ Hisilicon, which I believe are exclusive to Huawei servers.
+
+ I have taken care to ensure that hibmc_drm is

[Bug 1828228] Re: corosync fails to start in container (armhf) bump some limits

2019-07-15 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Hello Dimitri,

I tried to reproduce the same behaviour using default LXC containers in
real HW (ARMv8 - ARMHF containers) and wasn't able to.

Nevertheless, I was able to cause corosync not to start due to failed
mlock() calls:

main.log:Jul 15 18:27:57 [2386] hasid01 corosync warning [MAIN ]
main.c:corosync_mlockall:481 Could not lock memory of service to avoid page
faults: Operation not permitted (1)
main.log:Jul 15 18:27:57 [2386] hasid01 corosync error [MAIN ]
main.c:corosync_flock:1087 Corosync Executive couldn't create lock file.

when I made mlock soft/hard limit to be 0 for "hacluster/haclient"
user/group like you said.

hacluster@hasid01:~$ strace -f /usr/sbin/corosync -f 2>&1 | grep -i mlock
prlimit64(0, RLIMIT_MEMLOCK, {rlim_cur=RLIM64_INFINITY,
rlim_max=RLIM64_INFINITY}, NULL) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted)
mlockall(MCL_CURRENT|MCL_FUTURE)= -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted)

and both calls, prlimit64() and mlockall() failed with EPERM.

When testing with 1MB soft/hard limit:

hacluster@hasid01:~$ strace -f /usr/sbin/corosync -f 2>&1 | grep -i mlock
prlimit64(0, RLIMIT_MEMLOCK, {rlim_cur=RLIM64_INFINITY,
rlim_max=RLIM64_INFINITY}, NULL) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted)
mlockall(MCL_CURRENT|MCL_FUTURE)= 0

only prlimit64() fails with EPERM.

It tries to set RLIMIT_MEMLOCK soft and hard limits to RLIM64_INFINITY,
which is defined as:

#define RLIM64_INFINITY (~0ULL)

And it is, possibly, the "unlimited" value.

Since it failed with EPERM, checking return: EPERM = An unprivileged
process tried to raise the hard limit; the CAP_SYS_RESOURCE capability
is required to do this.

Looks like unless your container has "sys_resource" as lxc.cap.keep=
value, AND you configure corosync to have CAP_SYS_RESOURCE enabled by
default:

sudo setcap 'CAP_SYS_RESOURCE=+ep' /usr/sbin/corosync

the prlimit64() call will fail UNLESS you have unlimited value set for
memlock, then it would work:

(c)inaddy@hasid01:~$ sudo su - hacluster

I completely uninatalled tlp this morning and I am still experiencing
this issue.

I don't think it has anything to do with it.

(As I mentioned previously, other bluetooth devices work alright, even
with tlp).

[Bug 1834085] Re: Bluetooth touchpad (Apple Magic Trackpad) disconnects every few minutes

2019-07-15 Thread Raphaël Halimi
THIS IS NOT A BUG.

This is in TLP's FAQ :

https://linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-faq.html#btusb

Please read the documentation, do what it says, confirm that your
problem is fixed, and close the bug as invalid.

[Bug 1836654] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2019-07-15

2019-07-15 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   upstream stable patchset 2019-07-15

Ported from the following upstream stable releases:
v4.14.78, v4.18.16,
v4.14.79, v4.18.17,
v4.14.80, v4.18.18
